Very very inspiring! Thanks.
Love Princess Bride!
The Princess Bride reference instantly made up for the camera! 😊
Looks great. Thanks.
Love the Bible verse at the end of the video. Keep up the good work!
Nice job. I'll give it a go. Thanks
I discovered colored Micron pens recently.. so much more natural in appearance than black. I especially love the extra fine Sepia. I wish they would make extra fine for the other colors.
I am a fan of that color as well, though I found that bottles of Noodler's Whalemen's Sepia come with an extra fine fountain pen - has been much cheaper in the medium term.
Thank you Steve a belated Happy New Year to You and All your Folks . Let us hope it will better than last year
Boy! You aren't kidding that ink work went fast. I blinked and it was done hahaha, but there WAS a clip from the most awesome movie EVER hahaha. I haven't seen the other 2 videos yet, but I LOVE this style of painting.
Thanks greatly for sharing your technique of explaining calmingly how to achieve detailed pictures, I've seen your videos before but not this way of producing a picture. I'm still new to painting and only using watercolour paints so amazed how you painted the picture, thanks appreciated stay safe and healthy
I've used similar method mainly to just "get started". Similar to "writers block", while I have such a strong desire to. paint, I find myself just staring at a blank page for a very long time. I can't seem to "get going" or find a inspiration of subject. So I do this abstract method and just the laying down of color seems to loosen things up. Suddenly, it seems the inspiration of subject was there all along as it suddenly appears after just a few strokes in.
I loved this. Thank you for making this video.
These have a lovely fairytale quality about them. Don't know if that's what you were going for but I think they're beautiful. I often see figures when I use this approach. I love it.
Excellent explanations 😊
Perfect way to start a Monday . Fiddler's delight with a dash of magic and ultimate suffering. Thank you for sharing and showing your joy. You always inspire.
Beautiful....
Very excited to try some
What I love the most about this is that I rely on this technique for just about all of my offline work - that is, the work I don't show publicly or in my videos. I have sketchbooks full of washes that are just waiting for me to draw on with ink. The purpose is to just lay down the washes of color, without much intention, and then leave it to see what happens at a later date. I've done a video on this a couple of years ago, but you've inspired me to perhaps revisit those sketchbooks and take a look-see at what I have hidden away. Love this one! Thank you, Steve!
Oh nice! With your humor and creativity I can only imagine what you come up with. There is just something about the change in dynamic isn't there? But putting line down last really adjusts your expectations and yields new ideas. Very much in love with the process! Thanks Mark!
Instablaster.
It is intriguing to notice how differently you started seeing fir trees in the basic shapes - I saw and guessed you'd be paint out ancient buildings or towers!
I’m going back to watch your line and watercolor work. 😂 then you forget to video that portion! That’s ok, I’ll keep watching.
Only one of them, 😄
@@mindofwatercolor I’m reviewing way back to 2016! So I’m seeing plenty! I’m finding fountain pens and ink are equally addictive as watercolors! 😳
Love these spontaneous pieces. The first one was great - the inking was so fast, Ha, ha. Oh well. These things happen. Thank you Steve!
Following your lead I just tried my hand at ink over watercolor...and you were right...very satisfying, relaxing and fun. Thank you.
Vielen Dank für die guten Anregungen. Ich werde es auch versuchen. Alles Gute und eine schöne Zeit wünscht Cornelia aus Deutschland.
Simple and yet, fun 😍
So funny when you express ultimate suffering! Lots of great inspiration, thank you.
I am excited! Thank you for sharing! Hope I can make this will be a daily warm up!
You kill me with the quote of the princess bride!!M
So inspiring and beautiful. Thank you,
very enjoyable thank you for some wonderful ideas, Thanks Steve
Aw! I know you felt like screaming but forgetting to hit record is 100% relatable! No worries! It means twice the paintings for us! Thank you for doing it again. Such a fun technique.
this is so pretty and satisfying to watch. thank you :D
I like the almost subconscious process here. Will try this.
How interesting!
Great! You just keep inspiring us!
Oh my goodness...I haven't painted in 25 years, but this technique is inspiring me to get out the paints. Thank you ❤️
LOVE the colors and design, especially the second one!
I like your idea for ink drawing, over washes. Inspiration for me. Thankyou
Ohhh wow, you have blown my mind about line and wash. Your explanation of how the possibilities of using ink before or after the wash and the reasons why have helped me immensely. This is definitely one of my favorite videos of yours . Very helpful, inspirational and I need to get some ink & pens to add to my supplies. Also great use of the Princess Bride.
Beautiful!
Cool, I made a (horrible🤣) watercolor painting of a local bridge yesterday evening. I used line over wash, but not satisfied with it at all. I will take these
pointers into account and give it another go.
Absolutely love this technique
Throughly enjoyed these, yes I could hear your shout of despair over here in NZ. The second picture I could see a castle but I like the effect of the bush growing in front of a decaying castle, very pretty both are. Thanks Steve.
Thank you! It is very beautiful and interesting!
I am inspired after watching this video! I usually painstakingly paint already-completed line drawings and this looks like much more fun...
Every spontaneous painting makes me want to get up and do one! Thank you Steve.
Despair not Steve! Seeing/experiencing the "from this (wash background)" "to this (finished line work) was a wonderful thing. Then to watch you render the second piece was double rich. Just another fine lesson.
First time in I have seen this technique and I must say it is very beautiful. Love your work.
That second one...the first initial brush strokes...I totally saw a city scape. Haha
So fun! I'm going to give this a try.💖
Toni
Very interesting. Love your sketches on top of watercolour. I have used that technique before and won an award on a competition. It was the best fun I had... Must try this again. Thank you so much for the inspiration.
I’ve been struggling to find my own style in watercolor. I tried your pen and wash, vice versa. I’m not great yet like you but I love it. It makes me want to paint everyday!!! Thank you for your videos and great ideas.
That was exciting!! This is beautiful!!! Thank you!!🤩
Love this stuff. So fun to see what comes from loose painting and line work. Thanks for sharing.
Love it! Will be trying this method ....You have just given me something to work on this week! Thank you appreciated!
Love these spontaneous paintings,blessings.😀
I like this. I kept seeing castles. The second one looked like a syone wall and pillar at left.
This was fun, Steve. I think I will try some miniatures using this idea. I have some walnut ink, and I love the color. I never thought of using the watercolor splashes underneath and then the lines over. Can't wait! Thanks, as always.
Loved the verse at the end too!! I've got to try this.
I relly love those paintings thank you.
2 fabulous pictures-thank you
My mind took the second painting even further and saw the large grey area on the left and right as distant buildings past the part we're standing in. The one on the left is a triangular building like the coldiron building, the older an old brownstone brick building.
Great work! I am now inspired to dive into ink over watercolor, although I'm still mixing colored pencil and watercolor. Thank you for the bump I needed.
I absolutely love this work! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Amazing what was created..love both. Can hardly wait to try own my own.
Awesome! Love your style of painting. Thanks for the advice, will be trying this.
Lovely! So much fun! Hope i can do this!
Absolutely love your lines, such variety, and the way you use them to create highlit rocks.
Very nice to watch you work...makes me think i can do it...hahah
You really inspired me :o)
Great to see you again Steve. Line and wash is one of my favourite techniques from you, especially your way of doing it 😁
Thank you for explaining and sharing this. I’ve been in a rut and this has been a way I want to express myself but did not know how and was afraid to go about it. Again thank you!
Thank you Steve. Very inspiring. I am really starting to be drawn to the line over wash technique. Love the scripture reference! One of my favorite as well.
I've been in such a funk artistically for awhile. Anything that requires too much planning and prep, I just cannot wrap my brain around right now. Thank you for this video!!! Hopefully I'll get a chance to try this technique out today!
I have stepped away from painting for quite a while. I felt not inspired and after subscribing to numerous watercolor sites on Facebook that have "beginner" in their names, well very disheartened. If these are beginners then I'm not even born but I decided to go back and watch you, one of my first sites I watched when I started painting. Thank you for inspiring me again.
C'est du grand art, chapeau !!! 🎨👌👍
That first painting looks like it would be in a scene for a Calvin and Hobbs comic. :)
Interesting. When you started the second one, I thought sure it would be a southwest/cactus scene. Wonderful work that I truly enjoyed!
I love pen and ink and watercolor wash but sometimes I don't like the harshness of the black ink. It changes the painting into two overlayed paintings in my pea brain. I bought basic pens that I can load the nibs with other colors...less harsh than black but I have not done anything with them yet. This was perfect timing! I may do a series of small ones to gain some confidence. These that you just did are so beautiful. I hope after your Patreon class you will show us the results here on YT! I am always happy when a watercolor demo pops up. Cheers!
Reese! Remind Steve to turn on the camera!!
Love your channel. Especially these wash paintings. Just bought a fountain pen. Can't wait to get started!
These are beautiful and it was relaxing to watch you doing it.
Love this process. Thanks for sharing .
Extraordinary. Really fun and interesting to watch and hear your thoughts as you proceed.
So inspiring. Really encouraging me to do some unconscious abstracts.
100% approve your choice of movie clip
This is so good. I needed this for my painting slump. You have given me an "excuse"🤣 to purchase a new ink and pen, convinced me to buy noodlers walnut which has been in my Amazon cart for months. For now I will use black ink. I recently spent some money on all new Princeton Aqua Elite. I am soooooooo in love. I have studio and travel brushes. I don't think I will every buy any other brushes. 💙💦💙
Thank god you didn't press the record button! That makes the vid a lot shorter. :D
I like those drawings very much!
I love these spontaneous paintings! So inspiring and a technique that sparks creativity. I had to look up “stylized” so I learned a new term, too.
Love. Love. Love. Thank you!
Love this! Going to try it! Thank you ☘️☘️
Thank you so much. Beautiful.
I'm a beginner and trying to learn a variety of techniques - I love how fun this looks and going to try it. Also very creative use of one of the very few movies I've watched more than once! Thank you for this.
Beautiful video! I've thought about the difference between ink before or after watercolor, but not the different mindsets. Watercolor first seems to make it more free and flowing as opposed to having to stay within pre-drawn lines. Gotta try this!
Love your spontaneous painting! Have your approach to overcome fear of the blank page and suggested it to others for same. I have a cloud obsession. I guess I am going to have to give it a try for sky scapes...
Loved the idea....and your examples
At least off...LOL. Thankgoodness for two. This l👀ks like a great way to relax. Thanks Steve
You make this seem so effortless! Years of patient painting experience, I'm sure. These are all so beautiful. So glad you recorded it for us. I am curious to know if knowing you're recording affects your process or if it feels natural regardless. Thanks for the great content, Steve. Oh, also, I really love the grayed hues of the second one.
Thanks! It was awkward at first but after 6 years of doing it’s much more comfortable.
😅dutuuuu you Ty ugh
Just love your work - inspirational 👍
Great video thanks for sharing, yes I often forget to press record but never missed that much 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Good like your idea.... future smaller versions... more details,! Thanks for your dedication.
I would love to see some more like this but with colors that have a ton of granulation.
These paintings remind me of illustrations from Winnie the Pooh!
Now that you mention it, I feel the same!
Oh Ratzafratz! I really wanted to see you draw that.
