Enjoyed it? I was completely and utterly mesmerized - so much so that I watched it again! Simply beautiful. A chronic creative block has been dragging me down for the past 2 years, but I think you just freed me!
Whew! I did it but i tried using a biro so the lines would be lighter. However, it needed lots of touching up. I have been trying to do looser watercolour but can’t get the hang if itso this was definitely a help and didn’t destroy my confidence like loose watercolour. Thankyou. I can really appreciate your delicate linework Matt. 👍🦆🦉🦊🐕🐇
Beautiful! True, the precision of ink is intimidating and watercolour tends to be loose, they can go really well together like an opposites attract situation Nice video ^.^ thanks for captions
I’ve recreated the 1906,1953,2006 topography of the mine in my train simulator. You have a lot of info, it would be cool to get with you to create the rail operations
This style suits my interest and skills best. I love realistic wildlife painting, My drawing skills are good enough, but my WC painting isn't quite there yet. Certainly hope my WC skills continue to evolve, but I love this style of WC art. How much background detail should be considered with this style? What is too much?
Great video! I am deciding which paper to use for my picture book illustrations done in watercolor. From painting to printer for the book, do you know if the cold press texture will show up when digitized for print? Thank you.
Thank you, Matt...great video. I do stipplings and will try loose watercolors with my next one (on hot press). Prismacolor pens, nibs .005/.01 are my usual choices...archival and waterproof, but sure am thinking about trying the nib pens. Thanks again.
Which nib did you use to draw this bird? Loved the tutorial. Is their a tutorial that covers nib sizes and what is best for various types of sketches? Thank you.
You should try to pull the pen, making motions towards your body. If you push the nib outward, you risk the nib catching the tooth of the paper, which could result in a splatter of ink.
In your sketching, I noticed you'd been dragging your pencil back and forth instead of just drawing the line straight. I want to know if that’s the way to do sketches. I’ve noticed this too from other artists like yourself, and I am now more curious.
Hi Matt, I was experimenting with my nibs last night and I found the ink was not flowing through the point. I would dip and fill the point but the ink stayed in the nib. The nibs are new. I was wondering if you had any thoughts about this.
Just make sure you are not getting too much ink on the nib. If there is too much ink, the ink won't flow. The ink you use may make a difference too. What kind are you using?
@@thevirtualinstructor The ink I used was Sennelier but I have also noticed a similar phenomena with Noodlers. I like the nibs because of the differing sizes but the only one with which I have had some success is the larger one. Thank you for your response. I am a huge fan and find your lessons on the Virtual instructor clear and translatable to my work as a new artist.
I find my Crow quill nibs can vary and are sometimes temperamental, especially when they’re new. When they don’t flow, a quick wipe with a paper towel gets them going again.
Great video Matt, and thank you for sharing. I'm so glad you tell us about your art materials. One question: why use dip/nib pens instead of a fountain pen? (I'm not sure which one to get) 2:10 isn't it more like "arsh" ?
@@girl-rp8my Only if you use the wrong ink. If you use waterproof ink, a fountain pen is great! I use Rohrer & Klingner Sketch Ink in a TWSBI Vac with a fine nib. Depending on how much pressure you use and at what angle you hold the pen, you can have some very light marks and some thicker, and you can exchange the nibs in a TWSBI Vac. I'm happy with my system, but I have to admit that those nibs like in the video create even crisper and more beautiful lines. I haven't switched to pen-and-ink yet because a fountain pen is more convenient than a pen without ink reservoir, but with an open bottle of ink that can easily be toppled over (yes, the huge black stain under my desk is still very visible!). And you have to take good care of your nibs. But at least the fountain pen is still nicer than a fineliner.
I would have loved have watched this whilst listening to your instructions, but the music is just too distracting and irritating. If I could turn it off and just hear what you were saying, that would be perfect. 🤷♀️
Honestly, this is one of the best art instructional videos ever made…. Love it !

Thank you. I did it as my first watercolor painting. Now I'm in love.
Love that style, trying to incorporate in my own artworks 🪶

Oh shoot i been doing this backwards. I do the watercolor first and then use the ink. LOL. Great tutorial
So lovely. Thank you.

youre the first ive heard say the little gap bit in a nib shouldnt be completely filled up. it makes sense. now to see if it helps.
Hi Matt. Love all your videos but had to tell you that your music brought my husband in from another room. He said, “cool music”.
Great tutorial!
Thank you!
I’m just 7 years old😊

Its awesome !
Can you make more drawings on watercolour?
Yes, soon
@@thevirtualinstructor Thanks
😊
Really nice! What do you mean by pulling or pushing the nib pen?
You should try to pull the pen, making motions towards your body. If you push the nib outward, you risk the nib catching the tooth of the paper, which could result in a splatter of ink.
@@thevirtualinstructor Got it now, thanks!
Really love the bird . What kind of bird is it? I am going to paint it and want to know for reference purposes. Happy painting!

Use a fountain pen instead of a dip pen. Much easier..

sound volume oscillations really suck. Totally destroy focus on drawing. unsub for me.
