Yes please, more line and wash! Love the painting. In Charleston, SC there is a similar row of brightly colored buildings that they call "Rainbow Row".
Love this Paul. I was born in Newfoundland and my grandparents lived in a similar colorful house in St. John’s. The people are as colorful and wonderful as the painting.🤗
I went to St John's in August. I loved it and wish I could live there. Not only are the people colorful and vibrant, their hospitality and friendliness is above and beyond... I'm going to love painting this. Thank you so much Paul.
@@suehelleras a proud Newfoundlander I love seeing comments like this! Even though I've lived in Newfoundlander all but one year spent in British Columbia, and travelled extensively, I still feel there's something special, magical and mystical about "the rock". You either get it or you don't- thanks for getting it!
And for those of us who need the most basic help...like drawing a printable sketch of this would get some of us started. This sketch is must do. I feel so inspired. Thanks a bunch Cheers
I've learned more from you about watercolor in the past 3 months than I have in the past 2 years from anyone else. Thank you and yes, Line and wash are my favorite styles of watercolor Paul.
I was so excited while watching our nightly Acorn channel shows (mostly British, Canadian, Australian, NZ and Scandinavian shows). Acorn and watercolor painting have saved my sanity and our marriage during the pandemic. We were streaming Republic of Doyle, a Canadian show set in (wait for it)....St John's Newfoundland. All of a sudden the houses in this tutorial were on the screen. I screamed just a tiny bit. Would like to see more line and wash, too. This was such a fun one. Thank you, Paul.
Love Jelly Bean Row!!! Spent a whole hour with camera and bored family waiting for me while I took dozens of photos to take home with me to paint... and still have not done it. You have inspired me. Would go back to Newfoundland in a heart beat! Wonderful people. Beautiful province. Super fun tutorial. Love listening and watching.
Every video is Brilliant Beautiful and Gorgeous 😍😍😍 this is my third video today Haha you have become my magnetic inspiration , everything seems to be so perfect ❤️❤️❤️ Exclusive Thanks ☑️👍
I loved this one! I tend to be a bit too precise and need to loosen up a bit when I paint. I appreciated hearing your tip to make the lines a bit wobbly. I would love to see some line and wash, maybe with less details. I’m don’t feel quite up to this level yet. Thank you!
I'm the same way. Maybe it's all the years spent in the professional world where you have to manage every detail of things. I tend to want to cover all of the white space and paint with too much precision. Also, I second your suggestion about not feeling up to the level. But I'm going to give it a go.
I will try my beginner watercolour hand at this one and see how it turns out. Thank you for your clear information and it is so nice to see a familiar landmark as the subject of this project.
Wow - thank you for this. I've tried to paint these houses from a photo I took a couple of years ago. I guess it's time to try again. Love line and wash so "yes", I would appreciate more. Cheers.
I think your usual greetings is perfect considering the different time zones your many subscribers may be living in... but ultimately it's your decision... however don't change just for changes sake. Brilliant and engaging tutorials BTW!
Thank you for this guide Paul. I really enjoyed it. I'm into line and wash at the moment and would like to learn more. You also encouraged me to lighten up a bit with the drawing stage as last time I did one, I was almost measuring everything! Hope to see more line and wash in a different perspective. Thanks again.
I really look forward to the new tutorial on Wednesday now that I know the score and the new facebook page is a great idea. Could we perhaps have a windmill tutorial please Paul ?
This is one of my favourite RUclips videos. I watch it over and again, and I watch it if I need to feel more jolly. It also inspires me to use whatever colours I like in my own work. I like bright colours straight out of the tube, even the infamous greens. I did miss Margo though. She surely belongs here in the brightness of these houses.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this! Thanks for your kind and soothing voice explaining the steps you've taken to create this wonderful piece :) Much love from Canada (Ontario, not Newfoundland) :)
I love sketching buildings and now branching out into watercolours. This video is just what I've been looking for. Great tip about not sketching all of the roof tiles and bricks. Thanks Paul.
Hello Paul, thank you for this lovely lesson. I personally love pen and wash as I like detail it can produce and combined with lovely watercolours it brings the paper alive. Keep them coming ! off down my shed to give it a go.
I all depends on a good sketch. I laughed when you say' it is more complicated than it looks' . That wasn't your intention, wasn't it? Looking forward for the next week.
@@ArtbyPaulClark Ah, a total beginner here...I missed where you said it was more difficult than it looked...i'm really glad to hear that, be it after the fact.....I give my drawing a 6 out of a 10 and the painting a 7 out of a 10........though sitting on my mantle now with the afternoon sun shining on it it looks quite nice for a beginner lol. I think i need to work on a more steady hand to have better edges or maybe that is when i change the size of the brush to hug the edge of the line but not cross over it it at all...in any case it was fun and i hope to get better. Fingers crossed.
Really enjoying the new Facebook page. People are lovely and it’s a pleasure to see the work being done. This video was lighted hearted and fun, can’t wait to give it a go.
lol my daughter (5) said from the other room “is that that little lizard guy?” She thinks you sound like the 🦎gecko from the car insurance commercials.
Thank you very much, for this great video! I like the way you explain things. I learned so much. It's a shame that I live in a different region of Europe, otherwise I would attend a course with you immediately after the pandemic! I find your greeting absolutely creative, my daughter now uses exactly this sentence when she has to give an English lecture at school 👍🏼😂 Thank you for making the lockdown time a little more bearable for us with your videos.
Hello, I really enjoyed this video as I enjoy all your videos. They are very helpful as I develop my own watercolour style. Yes I would to see more line and wash tutorials. The second reason I enjoyed this video is that I live in St. John’s, Newfoundland & was so happy you chose the jelly bean houses to paint. These houses all exist in the older part of St. John’s downtown area. St. John’s is a beautiful place & Newfoundland & Labrador is a beautiful province with breathtaking scenery for painters. Thanks again.
I loved this tutorial. I’m going to try it very soon. I also appreciate seeing how some of the paint brands work that I don’t own and hearing your comments. I never get tired of your videos. They are really unique and not intimidating Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us - next best thing to flying over for a personal class,
Thankyou greatly Paul for sharing your line and wash of a row of Scandinavian houses, enjoyable video as always which inspire me and others how to achieve amazing painting. Thanks greatly appreciated stay safe
Loved your video Paul, line & wash houses/buildings are great to do 🎨. I've never been to see those houses 🏠 in Newfoundland but i would love too now 🤩 Thanks Paul your the best 💙
After trying several different techniques in watercolor, I find that I enjoy line and wash the most. Perhaps because there is more control in what is painted. I totally enjoyed your Jelly Bean Row House . Thanks for taking the time and for your creative energy.
We in Canada love our Goofy Newfies. Their pale ales not bad either. Especially love their brightly coloured houses. Great painting and thanks for sharing.
What a fun picture, can't wait to try it. Even my husband is getting into Wednesdays with Paul Clark. I ordered a brush set from you and it came yesterday, I love them. I tried them out on my little people and little dogs. Hard to believe something so simple is not so simple. Getting good with the people but my dogs look like a mix between a bunny and a dog.😂Thanks again for providing these videos, wish there was something I could do to say more than just thank you, they are really something I look forward to on these lonely days. Vicki
Thanks for sharing the Jelly bean row painting. I was lucky enough to see the San Francisco “painted ladies” in person when I was there for my nephew’s wedding in 2017. They were also in the beginning credits of American sitcom “Full House”. Hope you have a superfine day.
Paul, Paul, Paul.... you read my mind!!!!!!! I was just on Google trying to refresh my memory of my childhood home. I was trying out perspective which I learned from a previous video of yours. It was a little tricky at parts but overall gratifying trying it for the first time. This lesson has provided me a few more important pointers about shading and definition. I really like line & wash! Wish I was able to participate in your Facebook group, but I avoid all social media. RUclips is my only indulgence. Thank you for your videos! It has made lockdown bearable!!!
Really super happy looking painting. Makes me smile. Although I haven’t officially started painting - mostly practicing for now while I wait for the snail(mail) to make it across the flypaper with your book and brushes, I did try doing one of a photo my husband took of the visitor’s centre in Tucson, Arizona. Every wall on the outside of the building is painted a different bright Southwest colour. If I can figure out how to do it, I’ll post a photo on the Facebook page. Thanks for the beautiful line and wash. Also, thanks to Margot for setting up the Facebook group. A very encouraging bunch of folks that I’m grateful to be able to compare notes and paintings with. Margot’s paintings are great!
Well, it looks like line & wash is a favourite. I too am a big fan! Ten minutes after seeing your video I had already downloaded and traced the image (I admit to be an absolutely lousy drawer - thank goodness I have a light box,) to a piece of Arches rough which is now awaiting my pen and paints. After a year of not being able to travel and deciding to learn something new by picking up watercolour painting I am so terribly lucky that your book happened to be the one I first purchased. Thanks for keeping me inspired.
Thank you Paul for your amazing tutorials I learn watercolor in order to start a Travel journal (whenever it's possible to travel again). Line and wash is perfect for that. Love your style and teaching abilities. Cheers from France.

Always new things to learn from you Paul... This painting make me remember one place in my Country Ecuador called LAS PEÑAS - Guayaquil. Similar colorful neighborhood where a lot of people visit. Thanks !!!
These remind me of "The Painted Ladies" in the San Francisco area and Cape May, New Jersey. Such fun! And I love the Line and Wash. I gave it a whirl and it turned out pretty good! It was only a tree, but I really enjoyed the process. Thanks for the great lesson!
Hi, Paul, I love the line and wash painting! Illustration style. Please do some more of this. The Facebook page is a great idea to see everyone's works. Thanks!
With the utmost respect and humility I am asking 1) "You been drinking early Mate? 2) Did you maybe hit yer head? 😂🤣😂 You have no idea how much I enjoy hearing" Good morning, afternoon or evening wherever you may be" It signals the start of a great learning session filled with laughs, insight and a wee bit of magic (and the occasional cocktail recipe🍹👍🏻) . I don't know about everyone else but I'm quite fond of it. It's like that old smelly blanket I had as a kid(still have it) .... All warm and comforting🤣. Had to catch my breath after my line & Wash dance! Now I gave this painting a go (even drew it) and luckily wobbly crooked lines are my normal so if I was still in grade school...... Solid "C". Keep em coming! Oh and the Facebook page is awesome! Your teaching is brilliant!
I love your "good morning, afternoon, or evening wherever you are". It's like being greeted by a friend 😀 Another amazing painting! And margot's painting is so beautiful!! You're a very talented pair!!
Don’t change the intro! It’s stuck in my head after watching your videos and puts a smile on my face when I sit down to paint. It’s unique and very reflective of your personality!

These remind me of "The Painted Ladies" in the San Francisco area and Cape May, New Jersey. Such fun! And I love the Line and Wash. I gave it a whirl and it turned out pretty good! It was only a tree, but I really enjoyed the process. Thanks for the great lesson!
Glad you enjoyed it Kileen!
Hi, Paul, I love the line and wash painting! Illustration style. Please do some more of this. The Facebook page is a great idea to see everyone's works. Thanks!
Thank you as always! Will do Lily!
Hilarious as always and I'm always grateful for your comments! - my opening looks like it may be taking a return!!!
Again, another brilliant tutorial! Fantastic description and how you apply the information for me to learn. Thank you :)
Thank you! Cheers!
This was a great video, and I plan to watch again and sketch/along.

I love your "good morning, afternoon, or evening wherever you are". It's like being greeted by a friend 😀
Another amazing painting! And margot's painting is so beautiful!! You're a very talented pair!!
Thanks for that ... I think it will make a comeback! - I'll let Margot know too!
Don’t change the intro! It’s stuck in my head after watching your videos and puts a smile on my face when I sit down to paint. It’s unique and very reflective of your personality!
Love that! - I think I'll revert!!!
Absolutely brilliant!
Cheers Lorraine!
