- Pen and wash demonstration of a Simple Daisy Flower using a minimum of colors and simple techniques. Although I am not a flower painter, I have had many requests and decided to try a quick demo.
These demonstrations are done in smaller sizes, allowing the viewer to get in closer to the painting and better see my techniques. These are the same techniques I use on all of my large paintings.

PAPER: Size- 5"x7"
Arches 140lb Cold Press Paper for this Video.
My papers of choice include Arches 140lb Hot press and Cold press paper and Strathmore 500 series Sketchbooks. All are 100% cotton rag.
For beginners, I recommend starting with a high quality paper and experimenting with different types. As your style develops, you'll get a feel for which type is best. Waiting to switch to a better quality paper later will be much like learning to paint all over again.
MY PALETTE: All tube paints!
Winsor Newton- Yellow Ochre, Sepia, Burnt Sienna, Winsor Red, Davy's Gray, Ultramarine, Sap Green.
DaVinci - Phthalo Blue, Quinachridone Fuchsia, Cadmium Yellow Lemon, Cadmium Yellow Deep.
A note on Davy's Gray: I rarely use this pigment straight and when using it I usually mix it with each colour used.
PAINT PALETTE::
The palette is the mixing tray from a "Koi" Watercolour travel set. The colours are set up so the ones I mix together most often are close together.
BRUSH: An inexpensive, Curry's brand 3/8 Flat
Whenever the brush disappears from the screen it is either being wiped off or rinsed.
PEN: The Uni-ball deluxe micron roller ball pen .5mm nib. These pens are extremely waterproof on my papers and can be painted over immediately. The roller ball is almost indestructible and claims to be archival.
For "not a flower painter," you certainly knocked this one out of the park. Thanks, Peter, as always.
Great comment! Thank you :)
Hi Peter. Just wanted to say that your work leaves me breathless. You take the simplest of subjects and render it into an object of exquisite beauty. We who follow you are so fortunate that you are willing to share your talent and your vision with us.

Best drawing and painting of a Daisy that I have seen so far on RUclips ,Thank You.
Really nice as all your painting. I regulary follow your demonstrations and I modestly try to draw - before painting - only with a graphite pencil at the moment of course ! Thank you very much for freschness coming from all your paintings. Fabulous for me. Sorry for my poor english - from France - and forgive mistakes please.
Thank you so much. Always nice to hear. You're English is very good :)
Wonderful, I like your painting . So much inspiring for me. Thank you. Regards from Czech Republic.🍀♥️🍀
This came across as quite different from the majority of landscapes I have seen you paint. A lot looser and using so many different colors (blues, greens, yellow, red) and values of color. I like it!
Great comments and observation. Thanks :)

Beautifully done. Thanks
Thank you very much Manfred
As a person fairly new to watercolor and painting as general, it is very helpful to see the added comments below the video ( type of pen used, best paper and colors used as seen on your palette). How you mix your colors helps as well.
Thank you... lovely in its simplicity! How I envy the confidence in every pen stroke!
Very kind words. Thank you very much. Peter :)
Trained as an architect the lines are very important to me. You draw so beautifully. I watch your videos and learn so much every time. Strange, I also use a 5"x7" card size paper. Thank you so much for sharing your talents. Oh, by the way, you don't need the music , but you might want to try classical that might fit your subject. I generally play Chopin, Mozart, Spanish classical dance muic played by Alicia de Llarocha or Back when I am doing something "wild". Thanks again. Vincent
Sorry, Bach!
Just loving your work and appreciating the tuition. Thank you :-)

Impressed and inspired. I noticed your kindness in responding to comments … will you recommend a tutorial book on ink drawing as I am new, very new to it. I would really appreciate it 🙏🏻 and hopefully one day, I am confident enough to pick up a pen and paint with YOU 😅
I wish I could read your suggestions about high quality paper earlier. It is so true. I was so frustrated with the results brought by the paper with low % cotton. Thank you. 👍
Good morning, Peter. Thank you for the flower. I'm always amazed how you work from memory. Is that a gift or is it a skill you have worked to acquire?
Thank you very much Maggie. Always appreciated
I don't know for sure. I would say a little of both :)
1. Soul of line and wash is the definitive line, which you accomplish so well.
2.This painting also teaches the concept of negative painting
Great comments Dheeray! Thank you
I don't do enough negative work. Must try a few :)
Love watching you work. Love the music... wonderful part of my day today :)
So elegant. Beautiful. Please do a rose too.
Ohh...! ....... a slight departure... I love it! thoroughly enjoyable to watch... and definitely easy to follow... (she says somewhat more confidently than skills may permit.. lol) I don't think I can stop myself from trying this one out... ! Nothing ventured nothing gained ... And as always.. THanKs!!! :D
Thank you very much. I hope you do give it a go!
You had me on this one, When start to add color, I questioned why this why that and had a couple of oh no . . . But it all worked out at the end.
LOL. I usually have a few oh no's myself :)
Thank you! Another masterpiece. And thanks for sharing my music. I will compose some more.
