  • A quick video showing how I create burn marks in thin paper to use in mixed media projects. The technique was inspired by Claudette Hasenjager her RUclips is • Video . She is a fabulous artist, I recommend watching her videos.
    I use an incense stick to burn the paper and have water and a damp cloth on hand as well as a fire extinguisher .

    Hi Mags, I really wanted to let you know that just last night, I opened my Somerset magazine for 2023. I was beyond thrilled to see some pieces from you inside their pages! Congrats, and I'm not surprised at all, because I just love your works of art, especially the grungy, rusty pieces! Keep rockin' it Mags! !!

    Hi Mags, I could listen to you talk all day :) I finally tried this burning project outside, and I gotta say, you make it look so easy! I think I had a few problems though, the main one was not letting the incense stick actually burn enough in the candle. It kept going out as I held it to the paper. Oh well. Live and learn, and I've been re watching this video and see where I could use some improvement. Mags, thank you so very much for showing this technique! I will also check out Claudette's tute.

      Aww thank you, that's so sweet of you to say. The trick is to wait yntil it glows red in the centre of the stick. sometimes it works better than others. I think the brand of incense stick also affects the technique. Have fun and keep trying, it will work eventually.😃

    Mags, THANK YOU! I'm the one who only a couple days ago, asked you to show this technique...and here you are just days later! This is a really cool look and I LOVED your last shot of the deli rusted/burnt paper over the old book page! So, so cool! I definitely will try this process out! Like you, it's winter here in the states, so it might have to wait a bit, but I SO appreciate you demoing this on YT! I'll also check out Claudette.

    Awesome Mags!! I can see so many applications for this. Just gotta make surely I don’t burn my house down 😂 Maybe I’ll do it on the kitchen island near the sink.

      Thank you. It really is fun. A great idea to do it next to the sink. If it wasn't so cold outside at the moment I would be out there burning paper. 😂. Have fun !

    I don’t like to burn incense sticks. Would you have another suggestion?

    • @magswoodcock
      @magswoodcock  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I have another friend who can't tolerate the scent of the sticks. i experimented and found out that bamboo barbeque skewers will also work well. Hope that helps

    If only scents didn’t bother me I’d give this a go.
