In regards to the plunger “dead zone”... the real pinball machines I played growing up had “dead zones” too if you pulled the plunger too far back too. The plunger tip would retract back into the housing for the last 85% of the plunger draw length, leaving the ball cradled in the base of the shooter lane. (I remember making note of it because it was interesting to me) So it looks like the plunger on the A1UP is replicating that. As for the DMD... I might be biased as a graphic designer, a world where stretching images is an absolute SIN... but I’m personally glad it’s not stretched and for that reason, I understand why they wouldn’t give users the option to do so. (I wouldn’t either if I had designed it) BUT... I think there’s an argument you can make where maybe Zen could have optimized the DMD’s to fill the entire display by recreating or modifying the code they had for it. But I don’t know how much work that actually entails and might not have been worth the time and resources. My guess for the reason it’s the way it is, is: all the DMD displays are the same across all 3 pinballs. On the William’s tables, some games use the entire screen because the original tables were designed that way, and other tables used narrower screens because that’s how they were designed in real life. The Star Wars and Marvel pinball games were designed with the narrow DMD screen. So I think they simply had the same taller display for all the machines, just to allow for the tables that required the taller DMD.
Damn it, Arcade1up need to be more responsive to customers in the UK - as a huge star wars fan I baaaadly need this in my life!! Make it happen Arcade1up!!!

I know this is an old video. But I have really started falling in love with pinball. Never played much before, and I don't have a 1up pinball, but their design and others have given me a few ideas in my own build. And while I know a digital pinball machine is not the same as reall pinball, I find it better for my situation. I like playing different themed games, and real pinballs are so expensive, it is beyond my reach. So I have been building my own. To start with I found a 120Hz Toshiba, 39" at the local thrift for $30. It's only 1080p, but for right now it's perfect. My machine does have solenoids, and few other goodies. I designed my own flipper buttons, and 3d printed them for the specific purchase of getting the tension and response just how I want it. Even though it's only 75% built I find myself saying just 1 more game and I'll go to bed. Thanks for the video
UR NOT DOWNLOADING ANYTHING'S. UR BUYING EACH & EVERY MACHINE THEY PUT OUT. STAR WARS,.MARVEL, UNIVERSAL, WILLIAMS #1, WILLIAMS#2 BALLY #1, ZEN CLASSICS ETC. ALL 100 TABLES DIVIDED INTO 8+ pinball machine + old Zen #1 pinball fx 1 machine. = about 10 machines!!
Regarding the nudge: One thing I noticed after watching repeatedly both this review and the review of the Marvel pinball (where the nudge seemed to work much better) is that your pinball was sliding when you nudged it due to the wood floor yours is on whereas the Marvel pinball was on a carpet and actually tilting instead of sliding. I'm not familiar with the technology it uses for the nudge, but could it be triggered by the change in going from level to unlevel instead of left/right motion?
Loved your in depth review of the machine, I do like that Marvel Pinball more 😅 Star Wars Han Solo Table is cool played that one a lot on my Pinball FX lat couple of years. Still for the money it's awesome to see what they have created 😄
Hello Ralph. As always, a great video. Thank you for all the coverage of virtual pinball. I have always loved pinball, but could never afford a real machine. These products make it possible for us poor folk to enjoy this fun hobby. Merry Christmas!!
I'd really like to see them add a sensitivity option for the nudge. It seems like sort of a no-brainer to me. As far as content, one thing I am curious is just how hard it would be to swap the plexi for glass (seemingly not too difficult) and swap out the backglass art.
I wanna see it in my House and Marvel. Awesome, at least u will be sending it back. That Damage is Crazy, No blame to Arcade 1up. Shipping is a hands up affair. Can't wait, Stay Safe, Be Safe!!!!
Definitely interested in whether you can do a surround sound feedback mod on this. Great review. I’m amazed at what they were able to pack in as far as features for about 500. I built my own 27” cab earlier this year and easily invested 3-4x after adding up the wood, pc components, and screens.
7:22 You have to use the FORCE Luke! Thanks for a great indepth review. I am watching this mostly cause I am gonna try building a Pinball machine myself. :)

Almost all zen vpins I have used has the nudge set really har, I have a feeling zen do it intentionally to get you to not use it. I have pre ordered the star wars pinball for the Australian release next month! Can't wait
Comparing this to the Atgames, seems that unless a hardcore Star Wars fan, the display, immersion, ball movement and actual pinball experience is better on the Atgames. Plus can add more games and actual art on the back screen. Nice cab design, but seems they spent more money on the art rights instead of the actual hardware. 720p even on a 24" looks a little rough.
Omg it is a screen. I thought it is a cool real pinball table. So this is basically the 10 Star Wars tables from Pinball FX 3 . I got it on Steam. Nice tables. The metal rails could look more shiny like metal though. And raytracing is missing.
The nudge is also too late (lag). Which makes it almost useless. Everything else is great. The graphics also aren't as bad as you would think because most of them are "painted" graphics that don't have jaggies. I'm actually very happy with mine.

Here are some items I would like to see you address in future videos on this topic: #1-Are the PCBs swappable (meaning - could you and Cool Toy swap PCBs) between the cabinets? #2-Can you show us how the Solenoids are implemented (I've had Full Size Pins - for 20 years - so it would be nice to see how they are implemented and the Voltage used to energize them in order to determine if they can be swapped out with beefier solenoids? #3-If you remove the PF Bezel (and the Footer) what is the largest Monitor you could install in that Cabinet...and would the 720p output/graphics look good on a larger monitor? Thanks!
Once the tables that will be included with attack from mars is released, I will be deciding between it and the Marvel table. More than likely, I do see me getting Attack from Mars but who knows...
Just got a email advertising this, so had to see what it was. It looks neat, but if I get a table I would prefer it to be real. As for digital, this game is in VR, so I feel its a lot more immersive than on a flat screen.
@@RetroRalph Being relatively unhandy lol, i'm going with the ALP and i should be able to mod it up with the arcadestuff backbox. Should suffice for my needs.
Me: "I didn't think I'd ever be interested in a digital pinball machine but it actually seems pretty cool." My Modded Arcade 1up machine that I never use: "I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened."
That looks awesome! I would love to have one of those in my place, but I have no space at all. On the flip side, there is an amazing pinball arcade about 10 minutes from my place in Osaka, so I can go there to get my pinball fix.
That will work!! Looks really good! Thank you for the help the other day with Atgames Legends question i had....it turns out the MOTHERBOARD is bad....left me speechless. 🤦
The panel is a 1080p capable panel, the PCB is only outoutting a 720p signal to it. This was done to ensure no dips in framerate based on their hardware. It was a compromise to ensure a good experience.
@@RetroRalph Of course what everyone wants to know, is it possible to hook this up to a computer playing 1080p pinball sims? Is there an HDMI input? Control interface? What would be involved getting it to work with a PC?
The volume indicator concern is more of a Zen issue as their software is typically on a platform that has its own ability to indicate the volume like a PC, phone or iPad. The Zen software wouldn't typically handle that functionality and they would have had to program that exclusively for arcade1up. Most likely they didn't figure it was worth putting the resources into programming that as people can hear the change in volume but it's a legitimate thing to point out. Maybe they'll consider it down the line.

Just got a email advertising this, so had to see what it was. It looks neat, but if I get a table I would prefer it to be real. As for digital, this game is in VR, so I feel its a lot more immersive than on a flat screen.
If the screen was better i would have considered these.
Yeah, the excitement wore off pretty fast. I would say if you’re interested in Virtual Pinball, building one or doing a DIY kit is the way to go.
@@RetroRalph Being relatively unhandy lol, i'm going with the ALP and i should be able to mod it up with the arcadestuff backbox. Should suffice for my needs.
Not gonna lie I'm glad I didn't wait for this and made my own as tough as it was haha
Me: "I didn't think I'd ever be interested in a digital pinball machine but it actually seems pretty cool."
My Modded Arcade 1up machine that I never use: "I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened."
Great video! Can you make more content on alterations? You mentioned adding a subwoofer, how? Thx!
That looks awesome! I would love to have one of those in my place, but I have no space at all. On the flip side, there is an amazing pinball arcade about 10 minutes from my place in Osaka, so I can go there to get my pinball fix.
Alot of moxern tv have chips inside tht give the pi tyre a 3d like effe t.this qould help with pinball game si think
Awesome video!! Does it have attract screens for all of the tables? Thanks
Only when you’re in the actual table. If you just power it on and leave it, it plays music and just sits at the intro screen.
That will work!! Looks really good! Thank you for the help the other day with Atgames Legends question i had....it turns out the MOTHERBOARD is bad....left me speechless. 🤦
Can you explain what you mean "It's a 1080p monitor running at 720p" ?
Wow!!! Need this in the uk.
Just went to pre order at gamestop, said they turned it off cant order, best buy says coming soon, they better get some lol
Awesome recap! Can't wait for ours
