Well, I'm sold. After feeling the difference after doing the previous Outrun mod I am powerless to resist doing this. It changed the whole experience so much for the better. Ralph, I look forward to more in-depth instruction to hone my audio installation skills lol. Awesome!
Very nice work! These bass shakers seem like they’re perfect for arcade/pinball applications. AtGames seems to have made the right choice by going with these and having solenoids as first party drop-in additions for those who want them.
So I did this, couldn’t wait any longer for the follow up video. Only issue I had was with the stereo male to RCA plug. I ordered it brand new but I kept getting that popping noise Ralph was talking about in the video. After pouring over all my connections I just tried using an old RCA to RCA connection from the Line Out Converter to the amp and it worked perfectly. Hope that helps any other impatient people such as myself.
Yes, I wired the transducer to the little green plug. I really just went kind of blindly into the whole thing not having done anything like this before. It was intuitive enough I suppose.
That’s what I did too. It makes a difference for sure, but it didn’t seem to be as much of a boost as I was expecting (unless I turn the bass volume up past the point where the blue light starts blinking). I asked Ralph about this on his Coffee Talk and it doesn’t sound like he’s planning to update this video, but he did say he’d post something about it on his Retro Ralph Facebook page.
I also can’t figure out what he’s using the cable coming out of the front Aux jack for. It could be cool to put a headphone jack near the front of the machine, but I figure he would have mentioned that as part of the mod if that was his plan.
@@marshallkkurtz that’s the stereo to RCA plug that didn’t work for me. I’ve found myself doing something to this cabinet every week since I got it. First was this transducer mod. Then I switched the plexi for glass. Moved the solenoids to the top plate this past weekend and am putting in some Happ buttons this week once they arrive in the mail. I absolutely love this machine. Yes, the 720 screen is not ideal but when you’re actually playing it doesn’t matter. People keep comparing them to $3K home made monsters and those are two very different machines. For $550 I have no complaints with what I got.
I have these same exciters and transducers in my 27” cabinet that I built in the spring. They are so awesome so I would definitely recommend it for the Arcade 1 Up cabinets if people are comfortable doing the mod. For me, it was probably easier since I was working with a PC and simply hooked everything through Amps and the 7.1 outputs on my motherboard. The end result is just so immersive.
After watching the videos on the A1U pinball, I decided to clear an area in my music area for one. I'm definitely going to do this upgrade too. Can't wait til these things ship!
Ralph, You Don't need 7.1 to use exciters and bass shakers, what you need to do is actually properly make a 3 way Crossover that filters and sends proper signals to each of the relative and correlating frequency ranges of each of the Exciters/BassShakers. Think of it like a Bookshelf speaker with 3 drivers a tweeter, mid, and woofer. Same thing, by adding several amps to your build your kind of needlessly spending extra money you don't need to Crossover PCBs are pretty cheap compared to a 7.1 amp. I would say If you want to do it properly, head over to "parts express"(clearly Ralph did Dayton Audio is their house brand) and you can ask staff questions on the website to help you out in designing your project.
Good stuff Ralph. Nice to see someone actually explain how SSF and transducers/exciters work with virtual pinball. Solenoids and exciters/transducers compliment each other very well. As some others have stated they are not a replacement for solenoids and are not better :) As you saw here they do wonders together and easy to get going. I'd be going A1up on the pinball side if I didn't already build my own. Enjoy all the videos as always, hope you had a good holiday.

Yes it adds something to the experience but as you said without 7.1 sound channel separation (2.1 here) its not precise and rumbles at any occasion.
The sub is passing only low frequency to the device. What it does is it gives it a powerful low end that complements the solenoids. 👍🏻 Thanks for watching!

Nice setup, do you have a drawing/schematic for the hookups, was trying to see from the video but can't see everything, is there a reason the HDMI cable is unplugged, did you have to tap into the HDMI audio lines or something?
I tried to upgrade the SW pinball speakers with a simple logitech system with cpu speakers and a woofer. But for some reason running the 3.5mm audio jack out directly to a set of speakers the 1up system gives out weird popping and staticky sounds. It’s like they optimized the audio to only work with the 1up default speakers. All my other Arcade1up standup cabinets allow you to use the 3.5mm audio out jack with no problems.
Great video. But I have a question about the 3.5mm plug. When you take the plug from the back of DMD it has 3 sections I guess that's what I want to call it, 3 black rings. Most of the ones you can get only have two. Would that make a big difference between the sound and having to use the line converter? The "3 ringed " plug has 3 pairs of wires and of course 2 ringed has 2.
Ok, disregard what I asked. After a quick search, 3 ringed plug has the microphone option. So why did 1up use a plug for a game that doesn't have / use a microphone? Are we missing something
I honestly think I’m going to pull down this video, the unit I received was different that the production unit PCB. So I never did a follow up because I couldn’t reproduce this again with enough certainty that it would work for everyone. I did think of an alternative that would make this way easier though. I device like this can extract audio via HDMI. This would be a much cleaner solution and easier to reproduce from a modding perspective: J-Tech Digital Premium Quality 1080P HDMI to HDMI + Audio (SPDIF + RCA Stereo) Audio Extractor Converter (JTDAT5CH) a.co/d/dDpZ88t
After watching this video, and someone else's video, that's where I ended up by going with a hdmi audio Extractor unit. Thanks Retro Ralph for putting out great content!
Hi I know this is late but I'm just trying to make sure that in this mod you only used the bass shaker and the two after market speakers right no exciters? I didn't see a link for the smaller exciters for the flippers. Thanks for helping us by the way!
I haven't seen anyone mention this in the comments, but if you're worried about cutting the wires, just buy an HDMI sound extractor, then you can run an amp off that 😉
Hey Ralph - It would be awesome if you could post up the measurements for the machine. I am going to build my own and would like to get it close enough to use third-party printed side art for the body and backglass sides. Sure would appreciate it...
I will like to see the speaker (line level) process in detail. I'm guessing if you just swap out the speakers the line level and additional amp wouldn't be necessary. Is there a way to hook up a surround sound powered subwoofer (line level &/or speaker wire pass-through)?
Man I’d be doing good to just put the thing together, let alone mod it. Much respect to you though :) The main thing I would want that probably isn’t even possible would be glasses free 3D on the screen but I know that would be expensive for Arcade 1up and maybe not even possible. But depth on the table would be great!
What’s the max play field screen size you could mod it with? 27” or 32” also same question for a screen size that would possibly fit above the speakers/dmd? This would ease my mind purchasing knowing I can mod it with whatever screen sizes you think will work.. love your channel!
Hey Ralph I build a Daytona USA cab and use a PS3 3.5MM audio cable to an RCA to my speaker. If I was to throw one of these bad boys in do they all require an amplifier or can I just go Rca and and Rca out
I’m on the fence between Star Wars ( my favorite franchise) and Attack from Mars because of the Medieval Madness ( unfortunately Fun House was taken off). I love Star Wars and would love the theme and games but love the other games list. Would have to re do the vinyl and back glass to match Medieval Madness though
what is the 4th speaker wire hooked up to? there is the right and left speakers, and the base shaker on the bottom, but in the video you have 4 speaker wires connected the the amp???
Is the monitor connection standard hdmi? If so, I have a thought about an additional mod, adding an mCable to upscale it to 1080p and add some anti aliasing to the graphics.
Wow! Now I see why your name was mentioned in other reviews that I've read... Great informative video.. I'm looking for a way to make my Marvel Pinball more like the more expensive Vpin machines and the bass shaker is right up the alley of what I'm looking for. I doubt I can do anything about the 720p but with the right mods like more real feel vibrations and rumble I can live with the 720p look. I'll be selling my 3 arcade games and replace them with a higher level Vpin please give me a few suggestions on moding the Marvel I have and what should be the next Vpin I should get that will give me all I want without ripping my wallet to shreds.. Much respect to you though :) The main thing I would want that probably isn’t even possible would be glasses free 3D on the screen but I know that would be expensive for Arcade 1up and maybe not even possible. But depth on the table would be great!
Thanks!
Great job!
I'm still happy with my nba jam cabinet I bought on clearance for under 300
Well, this video should make Natalie Painter happy. 😂
OMG 😆
@@RetroRalph Don't tell her I said that. 🤣
thank you nice presentation 👍👍👍
Sounded good 👍
Me thinks Ralph really like vibration 😎
Of course I do 😏
Did you ever make a full tutorial?
Sounds good man
Now Justin has you pausing and thinking every time you say solenoid.
🤣🤣🤣 pretty much 😕
What’s the max play field screen size you could mod it with? 27” or 32” also same question for a screen size that would possibly fit above the speakers/dmd? This would ease my mind purchasing knowing I can mod it with whatever screen sizes you think will work.. love your channel!
That is a fantastic idea.
Hey Ralph I build a Daytona USA cab and use a PS3 3.5MM audio cable to an RCA to my speaker. If I was to throw one of these bad boys in do they all require an amplifier or can I just go Rca and and Rca out
I love haptic bass.
Where is the sub screen video on how to do the wiring?
😳😳🥳🥳🔥🔥👍❤️ BADASSSSSSNESSSSS RALPH 👍👍
I’m on the fence between Star Wars ( my favorite franchise) and Attack from Mars because of the Medieval Madness ( unfortunately Fun House was taken off). I love Star Wars and would love the theme and games but love the other games list. Would have to re do the vinyl and back glass to match Medieval Madness though
Has a tutorial for wiring this ever been posted? I would really really like to do this mod. Thanks for the video!
what is the 4th speaker wire hooked up to? there is the right and left speakers, and the base shaker on the bottom, but in the video you have 4 speaker wires connected the the amp???
I need these BUT I live in a condo and yeah when my kid screams or yells we get a letter from the HOA so yeah this wouldn’t fly. So awesome though. :)
I fucking can not wait for my two pinball cabs to arrive
Any updates on pulling this off without splicing the wires?
So do you think this setup would work well on a mame cabinet? Feel the punches through the control stick?
Hey Ralph, any dimensions on the backglass? Would be interested to see if you can add a monitor for changing the game backglass
Is the monitor connection standard hdmi? If so, I have a thought about an additional mod, adding an mCable to upscale it to 1080p and add some anti aliasing to the graphics.
That is awesome
Do you think the bass shaker mod will be worth putting into the Attack From Mars Pinball Machine?
How did you mount the Dayton bass, did you have the ring kit ?
Thanks for the great video that answered some questions for me and looking forward to your suggestions.
Why do I feel when the Arcade1Up Daytona USA comes out, you are going to connect a real car engine to it somehow?
Really nice mod.
Damn looks great!
Great Job!!
Waiting for VPX compatibility...
