They really did lose something in the jump to 3DS.
DS gamefreak was a different beast
DS-era Gamefreak _hit differently_ and we took that for granted.
If there was any point where the main series peaked, which i don't per se believe, it would certainly be either HG/SS or B2/W2
Gamefreak’s specialty was in 2-D Pixel art graphics and the jump added a lot of layers of complexity that they probably still find to be difficult to work with.
Thanks for reminding me about how I was so shocked about almost getting swept by this AI's team. Back when I played BW2, I didn't even know how Trick Room and Prankster worked... I can't believe I'd become a fan of yours given how irritated I was whenever I needed to face your AI in PWT.
Imagine being so baller at pokemon that pokemon literally goes "aight, you a real trainer now"
It would be really cool if they did something similar to that for Sword and Shield after World's this year. They already have an in-game tournament format with the Champion's Cup.
There's so much potential in SwSh for things like this, it just feels so unfinished compared to the other mainline games. These little details and references make the world feel so much bigger and magical. Still waiting for battle frontier ):

Even if it doesn't look like you, I'd say "Ace Trainer" is still a pretty accurate description.
Honestly they should add the champion in every game. They deserve the recognition. People know about Pokémon but not many know who the champion is. This will inspire people to play competitive too.
I think I have a better idea: have the NPCs (specifically Gym Leaders, the Elite 4, and the Champion) play like competitive players. But each next Gym Leader will prioritize certain mechanics and techniques and even combining that with what earlier Gym Leaders focused on. For example, one teaches the player about switching out your Pokémon and switch moves. Another about setting up with Tailwind and other stat buffs/debuffs, another about priority brackets and the effects of Held Items, one about stalling and status effects, and maybe one about weather conditions. The Elite 4 and Champion would naturally be a test of everything you have learned up to that point.
@@slimballs9650 ^ this. I would love a game where the main story teaches you how to play competitive. Have all the regular trainers fight in single battles with some Ace trainers to test you on certain teams and concepts. Then in each gym have the gym trainers introduce you to the concept the gym leader will use for their team and teach you how to counterplay against it. By the end of the game the player should have decent knowledge about competitive and can now go online and participate in competitive battles

My idea suggests doing so gradually over the course of the game to prevent them form being overwhelmed with information.
@@slimballs9650 I guess I'm more wondering if they'd be prepared to absorb and use that information, or if it would be something that requires a more mature mind to fully use. I know kids aren't dumb, but I know there's a lot of complexity involved in high-level Pokémon play.

I mean it's like giving a (casual) Lucario a physical move when it's slightly more of a special attacker
Though, the difference is much more pronounced in Metagross's case. And it can't learn Ice Beam anyway. It'd be like giving that same Lucario the unavailable Iron Head rather than Flash Cannon.

@@kirbyfreakyt4695 Lucario works a lot better as a physical attacker due to the moves he gets. Besides, it's 5 point difference while in Metagross' case it is 40 points difference.

@@shapooopiefour7173 I'm not 100% sure, but from what I heard is that people wanted an omega-ruby and alpha sapphire of gen 4 because if they can make a good game, then remake it and make it great game, they could take a great game and remake it into a masterpiece.
Gen 4 is placed on this weird pedestal in the community for a variety of reasons, some valid and some "if you dont think gen 4 is the best then you don't have taste" kinds of arguments on why its on that metaphorical pedestal.
It helped that it was a bit of a meme taken too seriously.
On a side note, most of the "criticism" B2W2 gets are one of 2 things. The first being the oddly common misconception that B2W2 are like platinum, and therefore have the same problems as BW (as hypocritical as that is) so it gets flak for some of the controversial moves BW made. This has died down over the years but there are still parts of the community that this opinion festers. The second and far more common reason is simply "I haven't played it, but I have played platnum and it was great so theres no way B2W2 compare"
Generally, for people that played them they rank Generally in the top 3

Not only is gen 5 my very first gen played out of all the gens but it is my most favorite and as a bonus Wolfey is in it. To be more precise my very first in gen 5 was Pokémon Black and my most favorite of course is Pokémon White Version 2.

I wish they had more things like this. It would be cool if they had a building in the Pokemon games that allows players to play in battles that fallow the tournament rules.
This exact short its so great, that it made my phone went from 20% to 5% when I wasn't looking in class.
You see, last week, I agree to the teacher that I would barely use my phone and class, and then today, I got a little bored and decided to see my phone in my class and then the after around 15 minutes, the teacher that made that rule went up to me, and give me a deadeye stare. I was so scared crapless, that I instantly threw my phone in my bag without knowing this exact short was still running, and when I check back later, I realized that my phone went from 20% to 5% and I got so mad, I yell at her.

Pokemon Legends; *insert name of full dragon here*
A legends game that shows Unova back when the full dragon was around and subtly explores a version of Unova before pokeballs were widespread, and gives you the option to befriend wild pokemon with berries instead of just capturing them/in addition to capturing them. Not perfect, but it feels like something that might actually get made
