All too often players use a Ward of Protection to cancel a treachery when they might have overcome the test anyway. They lose a card, a resource and take a horror unnecessarily. Stargazing removes all of these costs at the expense of being random.
I think players overestimate the value of a card being 'active' because they don't see when they would have pulled a '0' and beaten the treachery anyway. For that reason, I still think Stargazing is underrated by players.
I've also never had this card fail to be drawn and I predominantly play 2 player. The deck has been mixed and I eventually draw it anyway. The card is obviously stronger on higher player counts though.

This might be sacrilegious, but my pick for the Core set would be Leo De Luca. When the game came out he seemed like such a crazy strong ally but as the game has evolved I think he's really dropped off. Compressing your actions and giving yourself a better chance to succeed at tests is better than an extra action imo. Especially with characters like Preston and Charlie, who struggle to get value out of 3 actions, let alone 4. I pretty much never play him now. Other allies are just better.
Also I'm not aware of anyone who thinks Kymani is a top tier Goon. Most people I've seen think they're mediocre at best.

Preach brother! If you want to hear Cthulu laugh, tell him your plans. Arkham is at least 35% reacting to the unexpected. That could be a good fighter who is overwhelmed engaging an enemy and evading, or having to take actions to neutralize a weakness, or moving away from a Hunter enemy. The ability to have another action tor react cannot be underestimated. @@DakonBlackblade2

I've learned the shortcomings of Stargazing after being initially excited about it. I do still like playing it in Patrice - as she doesn't get to hold onto her hand to choose when to use a Ward of Protection, and as she's often cash-strapped.

Well Prepared + Precious Memento/Plucky(3) seemed to work well when I played William Yorick. I struggled with books and brains and this seemed to solve the problem pretty consistently. Is there a better solve?
I got lucky fetching Well Prepared a couple times (Short Supply + elder sign, for example), but usually just drew it after doing normal Yorick things to get Precious Memento and Plucky. I'm pretty new and have only played Yorick and Calvin, so my perspective is limited. Is there any "autoinclude" (Item based?) book/brain fixer for Yorick that's better than this?

The only one I'm really pondering is Hallowed Mirror since there aren't many Guardian accessory slots to begin with and this one's just readily available at Level 0 and is more flexible than Riot Whistle. I can see out of all of Circle Undone why it was chosen, but I would personally overrate Deny Existence from that set (scorching take!)

Most overrated card is Lone Wolf for me. It takes 4 turns until Lone Wolf actually starts giving you a greater return than an emergency cache.
Granted, if you can get it down turn 1 and you’re in a 1-2 player game, it’s great, and in general it’s still good but I do think it’s not as good as people say. It basically had a monopoly for multiple cycles because Rogues actually had extremely few ways to gain resources for some reason

Absolutely agree with Well Prepared. Compare it to the other cards in its cycle (Cornered, Recall the Future, High Roller, Quick Learner) and it requires so much more than the rest in order to work. The others at worst have a niche, but Well Prepared's niche is just spend a bunch of xp and then draw those cards and play them, which is just not great.

I feel like it might be more worth it for Rogues with the Chicago Typewriter or Beretta, since they need the boost more (and Beretta has a succeed by clause). So Skids likes this I guess.

  • @andrewrobson9363
    @andrewrobson9363 5 месяцев назад

Geas says you can't commit cards "during your turn" so you definitely still can use it to bump up your brain and commit cards during the mythos phase without breaking it. Same for how you can pick "draw" and just get your upkeep draws, that does mean you can't run cigarette case though so I usually just pick commit.

Why are our Jimmy's rustled? Because we have great memories of playing that card, or that investigator. Every time I hear a YT'er rank investigators, I cringe when they come to Sefina. I know she isn't the strongest investigator, but she was the first one I tried to build creatively, and I still want to build a great Sefina deck like Justin wants to build a great Skulver deck. It will probably never happen, but the moment we give up on that dream is the day we should quit Arkham and just start buying MTG.

I think that Lupara isn't the most overrated card in the PtC cycle. The card was never that prevalent, it was designed to be used with Sleight of Hand, but people always used it to sneak out other guns like Lightning Guns or Chicago Typewriters, or Sawed Off Shotguns, so FFG tabooed Sleight of Hand to be only usable with Lupara.
My personal pick for most overrated card for that cycle is Lockpicks. Look, it's a great enabler for all those cards that work with "succeed by X". But on it's own, it's a slow cumbersome way to gain clues, and you'll find yourself often combining it with other cards like Lola or Pilfer to be an effective cluever because you aren't able to reliably gain more than one clue with just a copy of Lockpicks in game.

    • @PlayingBoardGames

I love the take. It's a bit spicy and would certianly ruffle a few feathers. While I disagree personally, that is because most of my Lockpicks gameplay is in two player, where I think it still functions really well for me, but I love the take.
