Complete step-by-step guide to replacing the rear brake pads and rotors on your 2WD or 4WD 2004 - 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Awesome video. Someone please sponsor this guy with unlimited brake cleaner!
~ 1 can/disc.. Love it 😂
Also couldn't help but mention the fact you should adjust the e-brake before putting a new disck back on. The little cylinder can be adjusted using a flat head screwdriver and is located on the bottom of the e-brake assembly.
Amen. The brake cleaner had my jaw on the floor. 😂😂😂😂
Nice
man you don't know how many time I watch videos like this and the mechanic skips steps and doesn't show you exactly what too. I'm glad I watched your video man ! you actually explain how to do everything! please keep making more videos like this one, it does really help a lot!
You did such a detailed video I am going to change my pads myself for the first time and I feel confident to do this after watching you video....Thanks for taking the time to make this!

This comment seems staged. But I still like it
@@Nikerbober no it doesn't
Watched your video last night. Changed my pads and rotors this morning. My rotors were a bit of a pain to come off but I persisted. Got the sliders all lubed up too.
Thanks a lot for this video. People like you make RUclips Awesome.
D Evans what did you do to get your rotors off?
@@sammylopez14 pulled them
@@LegendofLaw yeah I had to beat mine it was stuck and all I had was little mallet
@@sammylopez14 yep. I did both mine at the same time. I thought I skipped something but when I went to the other side it came right off. A lot of pounding and spraying got the stuck one off.
@@sammylopez14 mine was seized and had to air chisel them apart from the wheel side.
This was very well done, and the camera clarity with what you were doing was well done. This is one of the better "How to" that I have seen. Good job!
After viewing this, I'm confident to attempt this on my own. Thanks!
Best video out there on how to replace the rear brakes and rotor on a Ford F-150! Thanks.
"I love the smell of brake clean in the morning, it smells like....victory" lol
I wish there were more quality, detailed vids like this.
This guy makes me feel like I can repair a whole car and I never fixed anything on a car b4 lol 😆 awesome video bro it was very helpful 👌 better to learn late than never
Dude, clean that rotor better, you still had a whole 10% off that can of brake clean left. Surprised you didn't pass out!
Great video, extremely well vocalized.
Outstanding video. Thanks for taking time to do this for all the shade tree mechanics out there.
Thank you much this was very helpful, have a blessed day.
5:36 when they seize up.....I followed your vid on front brakes and just did my 2006, passenger front bottom was seized rock solid no grease whatsoever inside. The boot had split and guess it washed out all the grease. Great videos, made the job so much easier with your step by step instructions.
Thanks for the tips, got mine done this morning
so far you're my favorite RUclips mechanic subbed
Thanks man for this how-to video. I followed it step by step was able to change my brake pads!
Thanks for showing me what I needed to do. Awesome vid. Everything came out great on my full brake job 04 F150
No comments? guess no one has watched this. I thought it was very helpful. thanks.
Very helpful video. Basic no problems job.
Very good video!
I've done brakes many times and I still learned a couple of things from this. Very nice job
Outstanding, I just replaced my rear brakes myself for the first time, great pithy to the point video thanks for the help..
Already knew how to do all this just reviewed your video to make sure I didnt miss anything but good video very in-depth and very detailed good job
Same here. Saw this and confirmed. I was told the piston wouldn't compress but has to twist in. Dosent seem to be the case. Looks like I have till get drum shoes as well. I wish the auto parts guy told me that too. Don't feel like doing it twice.
Thank you so much! You literally saved me 450!
Great video; super clear sound and camera work. Very nicely formatted; makes me feel confident that I can do my own. This really helps me, as I'm short on money, and can't really pay to have it done at this time. Thanks, and GREAT JOB!
Watching you from Puerto Rico, great job on showing everything and every detail. I’m ready to do it on my F150 now, thanks!
Make sure yall do exactly what he says. I only had 2 cases of brake cleaner instead of the standard 6 cases he uses. Bad idea. A minuscule drop of grease touched the brake pad (without my knowledge of course) and I ended up driving off a road cliff (think of the road runner) and as I slammed my brakes, nothing happened. I am now dead just ghosting around trying to get brake cleaner written as a Law in which every vehicle has to have at least 383 cans.
384 was just overdoing it.
Btw, thanks. Your video saved me a bunch of money and I didn't need the help of a gecko.
Great video! Very clear and easy to follow. Ordered mine online and replaced them last night (rotors and brakes too!) with the help of this video. You saved me a lot of $$$ by doing it myself. Thank you for taking the time to make this video! VERY helpful. Do you have a video on servicing the emergency brakes? I think mine are needing replacement. Thanks!
Thanks dude, I need to do this this week.
Awesome, easy to follow and straight forward
Great video. Good camera angle and quality. Thanks
good video I just did my brake of my f150 today watching your video great job buddy and everything went just fine THANK YOU !!!!!!
Great video, clear and concise. Thanks dude.
You forgot to add you’ll need a whole can of brake cleaner per rotor lol.
This was a great, simple to understand video. Thanks!
Pretty thorough procedure,,kudos
I Litteraly started to laugh seeing how much brake cleaner you used 😂😂
Your spelling though.
@@tomkennish3630 your videos though.
Very helpful video the only thing you forgot to mention are the abutment clips. Other than that Awesome vid thanks!
Nice work thanks very helpful
Informative and straight to the point! Thank you
Great video. Thank you for you’re help and for posting.
this was fun to watch,
I just watched and it does not look hard to do .!! thanks for sharing the video
Very good video. Made the job real easy. Great job
Thank you so much for the video.
Helped me out a lot
I did this same brake job on my 05 F150 yesterday, Previously, I paid a mechanic to do the brake job, and I noticed that the outer brake pad with the spring was on the bottom instead of the top, so basically it was on the wrong side of the truck. Does it matter if the spring was on the bottom? And there was no evidence of any grease in the rubber boots for the slider. THUMBS UP!!!
Wonderful video really helped me a lot ! Thank you so much !!!!!
Great vid man. Should have more views and likes. Thanks
Very helpful video...thanks for sharing!
Great video, lots of good info!!!!
Great Video, very helpful!
Hahahaha so much brake cleaner I hope that stuff don’t hurt you if it does your screwed. Great video man!!
great video, but my guy must have a pallet of brake cleaner 😂🤣🤣
Great video, thank you!
You saved my day bro
Great video! Thanks brother!
Thanks for share your knowledge, very useful. The red grease that you use for lube in the caliper's area is an special grease for that purpose or we can use general purpose grease.
I like to put a thin layer of grease on the piston for rust protection
excellent! worked like a charm!
Nice job
great video helped a lot. thanks
Is it just me or are the rear rotors and brakes easier to replace than the front
Yep just did both front and rear. Rear is simpler.
Excellent vid. A few thoughts on maybe 1% of the video: First, you didn't use threadlocker on the caliper slide pin bolts. I know from factory they use it. Also I'm guessing it doesn't matter since it works for you, but the other vids I've seen on this from Fordtechmakuloco, Chrisfix, etc, say to have the engine ON when pumping brakes at the end. Like I say, this clearly worked for you so it probably doesn't matter, but you noted to have engine off, and they noted to have engine on so just an observation. Lastly, I noticed you had it in neutral at the end. Not sure if that's necessary but you didn't talk about it so it was probably worth an explanation if necessary. 2CarPros said to have it in neutral. Fordtechmakuloco and Chrisfix did not. Thanks! People like you make RUclips great!
Spot on...............great video..............Thanks
great vid very helpful !
Good Job, one question , what kind of grease do you use, thenak you for sharing.
How did you get the camera lined up so perfectly with your line of sight? The field of view was perfect, not too shaky. Care to share your camera configuration?
Stuck E-brakes making things tough removing the rotor.best idea for removal?
I really like your videos. Could you put a little more light in there? Sometimes the area is totally black.
Thanks for your help. Jesus bless.
Any chance you made a video in chaging out the ebrake?
When I did this job on the weekend the clip on the outside pad was on the bottom. I have a 2007 f150. First time the rears got done since I've own the truck. So the previous mechanic did it wrong ?
Thanks.
This made it look like doing brakes is fun. The fronts suuuuucked
And with this method, you risk damaging or destroying your abs actuator. Also, you shouldnt use just any grease to lube the caliper pins.
Thank you
Not sure if you see this. Are you sure the clip must go on top. Just did 2 trucks and the original pads had the clips on the bottom side
What pads did you use here and another good video thanks
Good video brother. What year exactly was this truck? Also what kind of grease was used on caliper pins?
What kind of grease are you using? Is that the mobil 1 red stuff?
Is there a way to back off the parking brake shoes so they don't catch on the ridge that forms on the "drum" section inside the rotor?
Yes you need to back off the adjuster, it takes a special tool I think to make it easier.
Should you apply anti-seize to the abutment clips surface?
Is this the same for the 4x4. I have never change the brakes or rotors before. I want to do it on my own. Will the steps be exactly the same for a four-wheel-drive F150. I’m changing him tomorrow. Hopefully you get this before then.
Why is the hard to take off the rotor on both sides? I hit the rotors all around and still doesn’t come off.
I took my truck to Firestone and after returning home the next day the brake light came on, he said bring it back in and they would check it, and that probably the mechanic didn't adjust the emergency brake, does this ring true or is it just a brush off, he also said that maybe the sensors could have gone bad, it's a F-150 4X4 Super Crewcab are they telling me the straight of it. Where are the brake sensors located on the vehicle????
brake light on is probably a short in the instrument panel coupler
@mcclanahan11144 True, I have the same. I hit a pothole, and the connection comes loose and it comes on.
How many cans of brake cleaner did you go thru for this project?! lol ;-j
good job
question, did you have to bleed the break fluid or no? just saw you use the clamp and it held in place, was that all?
Hey I got as far as putting the new brake pads in but when I put the caliper back on and it doesn’t go in flush the back brake pad won’t go in properly.. any suggestions?? PLEASE HELP..
well the one thing I see you doing wrong is you shouldn't push the piston back without opening the bleeder. block off the line and open the bleeder and push the piston back
Agreed! You can ruin the ABS pushing back the rusty fluid from the caliper. While you're at it, may as well put in new fluid, it's cheap insurance.
Should this be the same for a 2006 e-150 cargo van?
Can someone plz tell me if the 2wd and 4wd have the same rear rotors I know the fronts are different
Thanks. Jesus is King!
If you were already in there why not replace the break shoes while you’re at it? They’re only about $20-$30 and it’ll save you time and effort in the future.
No caliper bracket shims (new)!?!
Are you out in Idaho?
You must get brake clean for free lol
He didn't use slider grease
For some reason I could smell that brake clean when he was spraying it….
Think you used more spray than a 1980's Metal Hair Band. lol
soak paper towel deep breaths haha
help!!!!! both my caliper bolts are compelety rusted and one broke off. how do I get the broken peice out? i am an amateur mechanic at best.
I fixed it myself. thanks for all the help everyone...........on another note. AutorRex is an unbelievable youtuber. His step by step instructions and camera angles are some of the best I've seen.
