I love that scene! And the scene when Coach Ukai yelled, "Don't you DARE look down! Volleyball is a sport where you are always looking up!" I'm so glad they were able to record it with the original voice actor before he passed. I still get chills thinking about it.
I never told anyone because I was embarassed. But after watching the first season, this show really got me hyped up for Volleyball. It was during covid, I just turned 30, so quite old to start a sport from scratch. It took me a year to find a club that would let me join during quarantine, but none would have a complete amateur. Over that summer I practiced a lot in the parking lot on my own. Like serving, running after a ball, and doing it again. I ended up playing a few beach volleyball tournaments with friends. That’s when I got approached by one of the organizers about a new men’s team in the area being created, and that they were looking for players of any level. I finally had a team. We were all new, and the others were about ten or more years younger than me. We would train 3 times a week, and keep playing as a team on the weekends. I am now 33, we made it from last to first division, and I am as passionate about the sport as I was when I started. We went to see the movie together as a team. Story is coming full circle.
As someone who's loved sport as a teen and kinda lost myself abit from my 20-29s(im hitting 30 next month) this amazing to hear cause ive also considered doing sport and ive deeply regreted to have missed the early train but this message really shines light in the end of my tunnel. Thanks for sharing this and i wish you goodluck and a longlasting career.
My whole life i was interested in sports and very active, when i was 14 and my stable sold all their training horses, i quit and kinda went onto a downwards spiral. I lost my spark and was too unmotivated for the next 6 years to pick up any new sport, because of school and then work. When i started to watch Haikyuu, it got me motivated and hyped up again, but not to the point that i would actually start doing anything again. A couple months ago, i started going back to school again with my final goal to get a good degree and now that i've finally got some free time again, i've started to play volleyball as a 20 year old. I'm learning with kids nearly half my age but my love for that sport is real and all of that started with Haikyuu. It really changed my mindset and gave me a much more positive outlook on life and what i can actually achieve if i really want to. Your comment really resonates with me and i hope you'll have many more amazing and successfull years playing volleyball ❤
@@wtbskilllololo I do feel like the old guy on the team a lot, but being older also helped me evolve a lot faster. When I was 20 I was never in a rush, or goofed off a lot. In time I learned how to pick up new skills more diligently and observing better. I am a bit more prone to injuries or aching joints, but I'm still going strong. Even got to pick up a new position recently! So honestly, go for it. Don't be embarassed about being new, or being bad at the basics. You'll pick it up in a few weeks if you focus!
@@smrgd_wlf4994 Most of the guys I started with are also around your age. 20 is a really good age to start actually. You have the luxury of not being in a rush and just being able to enjoy. If you're not in the starting lineup one year, that's okay. You have good years ahead of you, and by the time you turn my age you will have 13 years of experience and a body to back it up! Good Luck with everything! :)
I once thought of quitting volleyball when i lost a match very badly. I was very insecure about volleyball from then on. I kept forcing myself to not watch Haikyuu thinking it might bring back bad memories but I ended up watching it since many people were recommending it to me. It really was very inspirational for me. It made me play volleyball again and enjoy the feeling of being in the game. Truly, Furudate is a very good mangaka.
this reminds me of all the arguments i have made against people who claim haikyuu is a fundamentally bad anime. everyone can learn something from it, everyone can relate to some part of it.
I begin playing volleyball bc of Haikyuu, I'm like 28 years old and when I was in school I hated do sport bc you know, teenager. But now I'm really happy for this, I even went to a professional match and I had so much fun watching it! And I'm creating friendship with my teammates. Even if i'm a loser while playing, I can't wait for the two day in the week when I go
I never once thought Furudate's skills as an artist were lacking in anyway. if anything, it elevates everything else in the manga and his style shined during action sequences. His characters never looked awkward or wonky that would take me out of the immersion, like Attack on Titan (just as an example) often did.
Im so shocked hearing that he only started drawing so late??? Are you kidding, his art is incredible, I just finished the manga recently and my god Im so inspired. The paneling and art and layouts and all yadda yadda are amazing!
My friend started watching Haikyuu in middle school because of how much she like Noya she got me trowing the ball all over the place so she could get it all summer and when she went to high-school she joined the volleyball team played every year sense then and during of season she would practice and join in other sports. Haikyuu legit changed her life as before she was in a bit of a downward spiral with the kind of people she hung out with and general mindset.
Because of the smaller panels and background interactions, I will always favor the manga a little bit more than the anime. To be clear, I love both. Those tiny panels don't always make it to the anime for many reasons, but it is so great at depicting the characters and their relationships with one another. (It's also really funny.) The manga art is flawed, but I find that it gives the manga a memorable style. The way this mangaka transitions from panel to panel is so smooth and seamless. For a million reasons, Haikyuu will always be one of my most beloved stories
I'm pretty sure Takehiko Inoue's history with the "Slam Dunk!" series was pretty much the same, except in a even larger scale. Even though Slam Dunk! story ended by 1996, it still is to this very day in the top 10 best selling manga of all time, and with that impact, there's no need to say that many high schoolers also wanted to join basketball clubs because of the series. It's such a cool thing when culture impacts real life. The biggest regret of Furudate should be naming his main character after one of the most famous female characters in shounen history, probably unknowingly so! lmao, thanks for the video.
At a much smaller case, that is what Eyeshield 21 did for japanese football! I bring this up because the Japan football team beat team USA in a U20 world championship game which was really fasinating!
Takehiko also has another more serious Basketball manga(para/wheelchair basketball) its amazing and i value it on par with his other great work Vagabond.
i just came back form a volleyball game at school, we lost but it was sooo fun! I love my team, my coach and volleyball itself. Im in the middle of watching haikyuu and i realize that it has taught me a couple things, like how to set, spike, serve, and multiple other cool things. i think haikyuu is one of the best animes ive watched, and that multiple other people should watch it becasue it teaches you that even sports can be fun! :)
I remember discovering the sport of volleyball. I distinctly remember the pain it would cause my wrist when I dig, so I didn't really like the sport. But when I discovered Haikyuu I actually look forward to the pain of receiving, I'm usually a shy person so when someone makes fun of my skills I want to give up. But I just didn't care anymore, every chance I got to play volleyball was filled with joy.
The fact that after haikyuu anime Japans men's volleyball team is now no 4 in the world beating Brazil Germany and france(who just now won the vnl) shows that how much haikyuu impacted volleyball in Japan All Japan needs is beating Poland but Japans skills are insane ❤
Now you mentioned it i just remember they put yamamoto and ogawa on the same court while competed against poland in vnl match this year, despite rjn being beaten that was still a fun match 😂
It's one thing to say he was never into manga or drew it in the past, but I disagree with the notion that he came from zero experience at all. It's a little misleading to say he never did art or had no real experience with it then revealing he worked for a design company. A real job in art isn't just making comics and manga or cartoons, it includes everything from making flyers or ads, designing mascots for stores or brands, or just creating "clip art". Graphic design is a major job in the art industry as a whole. It's a very real, professional job to have, and it's not just a lesser thing that isn't real art.

the story of haikyuu is good, you know is good cause it makes you feel, It made me feel so excited, I used to cry on their matches, I laugh a lot too, I trained on my room until I touched the ceiling (I'm literally Noya's height) I bought good shoes, a ball and went outside to play with friends, and even went to classes two times per week, I hate sports so much, exercise to me is like the worse, but it motivated me so much, I actually wanted to become good at it
It’s actually insane that I started playing volleyball after this anime. I still play it after gaining an interest in 2020. Im not the type of person to be into sport that much i play badminton with my cousin sometimes, but after watching THE 1ST season of Hq i fell inlove with volleyball ik i will not be able to play volleyball cause im a shy type person and have a huge fear of getting judged and i prefer drawing and writting, but i would not mind to play for fun.
Bro, I used to hate all sports, but man Haikyuu made me *like* volleyball. I didn't play it in middle or high school, but in PE classes when we were playing volleyball as part of the curriculum, I felt so alive and happy, playing the sport. I used to find all sports tedious and tiring, but after Haikyuu, I started seeking out the chance to play volleyball. I still don't play it in any way (I am a terrible jumper and short asf lol) but it is the only sport I'll willingly play.
furudate is both a great artist and writer. haikyuu is a story with an awesome plot and writing and inspiring character development. i love how haikyuu can be enjoyed by many, those who love and those who don't love volleyball.
As an artist, i really take into consideration how he went from not being good at drawing to dedicating himself becoming a renowned mangaka really inspire me to start working hard on my art skills. Plus he inspired me to start practicing anatomy because i found all of character poses were very accurately and not look awkward at all
watching haikyuu and becoming a huge fan of it actually made me play recreational volleyball myself! it didn’t end up being as influential of a sport for me as it was for the haikyu characters or other people who played volleyball because of haikyuu, but haikyuu itself was definitely influential to me, and it is still one of my top 10 manga/anime
I played volleyball in grade 7, just on a whim because of my friends, usually at the time i would have signed up for Cross country but something about volleyball stuck to me. I began playing it every break with my friends, subconciously setting any round object to myself. However after actually playing on the team, i was tempted to quit. I loved it I really did but i admitedly spiraled a lot. One missed serve, one bad recieve, one missed set. Eventually it all pilled on me and I felt like quiting. Over the summer my friend introduced me to Haikyuu and I watched it just for fun. Haikyuu, somehow made me love volleyball more then I ever did. I began looking forward to practices, I played at school at home, and during 8th grade actually did tryouts for the Junior team. Honestly it scared me, the 9th graders and the 10th graders all played club and were much better then I was. But i had somehow made it into the team so I was determined not to drop out. Eventually I got much better and discovered my love for the setter position, getting a perfect hit to my hitters was the best feeling. I now play starting setter on my team. And every time I feel the slightest bit of annoyance to volleyball I watch or read Haikyuu to remind myself why I love volleyball so much. Even years after the show still resonates with me
well...I didn't play volleyball, but i have played badminton for a long time. The first time i watched haikyuu really touched me😭 i love the themes Furudate discussed in this manga, for example rice and muscle and winner and loser, which really relates to my life and badminton experience. Furudate is so wise, and you can find that he is such a person who loves his life through his work.
i got into voleyball bcs of haikyuu too, i stopped doing it when i hit high school bcs of the pressure of grades, but i keep watching and reading it every chance i get just to feel that pure emotion all again even tho i know i probably wont ever play again lol
Furudate’s later developed art skills makes the extreme style shift from volume 2 and 3 make a lot more sense. I LOVE Furudate’s style and I have his artbook but the style of those first two seasons were so bad I had to find the manga to check if it was the studio messing up or if Hinata’s eyes really did slide all over his face. Like, the human bodies looked like wrung out towels wearing oversized clumpy pajamas and most of their hair looked plastered to their head with sweat but his focus on dynamics was obviously the important thing and the thing that developed first. Being a newcomer to manga I think definitely left him to develop his style and especially character designs very uniquely from common trends in shounen styles and stuff. Like the way noses are very small and pointed and low on the face with often VERY rounded foreheads and hair in his art.
TL;DR: volleyball is cool, i started 6th years ago, haikyu inspires me to keep practicing. i mean like i have always loved volleyball, i played it first 6 years ago, when i was 8. i loved it, even if it wasnt my idea to join that team, i'll be grateful my mom made me. after that first year my family didnt have he money to let me play anymore. i got in to haikyu!! when i was in ~6th grade and like then i realized my school had a team but i couldnt try out until 8th grade and thus, i got my old smelly volleyball from 6 years ago and practiced most of that year, in 7th grade i became bombarded with a bunch of different personal things so i didn't do as much, it was just something i would do to pass time, this year i tried out and failed to make my school's team and i was genuinely devastated, in truth i still kinda am. volleyball is the sport i hold closest to my heart and so, im practicing even harder. i know its cheesy but like genuinely haikyu!! is the main reason i am practicing this hard. i hope the author is happy about the amount of people he inspired.
I'm motivated to create a gymnastic manga, even though I'm literally in a non artistic country and have minimal art skills, meaning I'll probably never become published in this country cause they don't make comics. Just strip for the news I feel like hearing this guy's story was enough to tell me it's about authenticity, not about talent
Ive watched so many animes, whenever there was a certain activity surrounding it, i was affected by it. Your lie in april helped me continue playing violin. Blue Period helped me in continuing art. But Haikyuu is the only one which made me begin smth, that was Volleyball. I love Haikyuu, thr characters are all extremely relatable, sweet and realistic. I could cry for hours about Haikyuu. It made me so excited, one of my most favourite animes and mangas, Haikyuu is the best sports anime out there, no doubt about it!!
Most of my "non-local sport" enjoyment came from anime in general, basketball (Kuroko no Basket), volleyball (Haikyuu), baseball (Daiya no A), are all sports i never had much interest in or never even knew the rules of before getting into their respective anime, for example i *actually learned* the rules of baseball through Daiya no A, and the same somewhat goes to volleyball, of course i "knew of" the sport and how it moves and stuff, but the details of the scoring system, what is and isn't allowed etc. are all things i learned through watching the anime.... I guess what I'm trying to say is, if there's ANYTHING i would always be thakful for in anime in general, is the existance of sport anime, it has not only taught me so much about the technical aspects of sports i would've never bothered to take a second glance at, it has also been an immence amount of entertainment for me and many of the loved ones in my life, PLUS lessons about perseverance in one's goals/aspirations and the positive effect it can have on life.
Shoutout to @Kseniya / @Triana-Nero for most of these sources/credits 👀 the athletes video with translation and the rise of volleyball graph and all the interview translation with furudate sensei that makes this whole video possible .... or at least i knew them all from/through her 🧡 (though far as i remember, this video is not wholly accurate, dramatization and lack of sensei's true depth and hardwork in some parts) (BUT still i love the vid lol, it sparked joy in me, thanks dude)
Im not gonna say its missleading, but Furudate got 1 oneshot and 1 series in the shonen jum before Haikyuu. I know you vid is pretty and the story is touching, but isnt true. Side note, the "little giant" dude, it happens to end college and enter a desing company. After that try manga and had a "similar" series as the first manga of himself. Drawing a pretty obvious reflection of the author life. Maybe is speculation but it shows how Furudate prob love volleball at young age and that "winning spirit" burns deep inside him.
I really liked Haikyuu and volleyball looked really interesting but i didn't want to do a team sport. Then i read Blue Box and I was enthralled with the badminton scenes so now I've been playing badminton for a year
My one complaint about haikyuu is the lack of a second year. I felt they were setting it up with Ennoshita and Kinoshita getting a bigger role in the story, and it’s a shame for it to go to waste like that.
I remember I saw A guy play volleyball At school and his friends making fun of him saying ‘’Volleyball is for girls’’ they be laughing Making fun of him

I would love to see you talk about not just the anime but also the live action stage play. Both did a great job with the story
furudate is both a great artist and writer. haikyuu is a story with an awesome plot and writing and inspiring character development. i love how haikyuu can be enjoyed by many, those who love and those who don't love volleyball.
Hoping that Dogsred has the same impact on Japanese hockey that Haikyuu has had on Japanese volleyball when it gets its anime. 🙏
As an artist, i really take into consideration how he went from not being good at drawing to dedicating himself becoming a renowned mangaka really inspire me to start working hard on my art skills. Plus he inspired me to start practicing anatomy because i found all of character poses were very accurately and not look awkward at all
Im not even the mangaka and im almost crying with the impact he got on society
Dumaa misspelt truly as "truely"
¡Que programa tan divertido😂😂😂! Hace reir a mi nieta ❤❤ bendiciones🙏🙏🙏🙏😁😁
I would not have been a volleyball captain without Haikyuu, it really changed a lot of my life
watching haikyuu and becoming a huge fan of it actually made me play recreational volleyball myself! it didn’t end up being as influential of a sport for me as it was for the haikyu characters or other people who played volleyball because of haikyuu, but haikyuu itself was definitely influential to me, and it is still one of my top 10 manga/anime
Even years after the show still resonates with me
i mean it works like now all the guys in my class tried out for the volleyball team because they watched haikyuu
well...I didn't play volleyball, but i have played badminton for a long time. The first time i watched haikyuu really touched me😭 i love the themes Furudate discussed in this manga, for example rice and muscle and winner and loser, which really relates to my life and badminton experience. Furudate is so wise, and you can find that he is such a person who loves his life through his work.
I missed these types of anime intros so much😭
Furudate might be the most unproblematic mangaka that makes media that's interesting to me
‘Thank you Furudate Sensei’ we say in unison
The amount of times i rewatched the intro is unhealthy
lieu intro is crazy, wasn't expecting that
Got emotional hearing the whole journey
:( I really wish there was a manga on Ultimate Frisbee....
i got into voleyball bcs of haikyuu too, i stopped doing it when i hit high school bcs of the pressure of grades, but i keep watching and reading it every chance i get just to feel that pure emotion all again even tho i know i probably wont ever play again lol
Y'know, it's actually quite funny, the last quote, i thought that volleyball was so cool when i started watching Haikyuu.
Just strip for the news
I feel like hearing this guy's story was enough to tell me it's about authenticity, not about talent
I guess what I'm trying to say is, if there's ANYTHING i would always be thakful for in anime in general, is the existance of sport anime, it has not only taught me so much about the technical aspects of sports i would've never bothered to take a second glance at, it has also been an immence amount of entertainment for me and many of the loved ones in my life, PLUS lessons about perseverance in one's goals/aspirations and the positive effect it can have on life.
i started volleyball, inspierd by nishinoya ,now i am the libero of my region team
saitamas training regimen motivated me to brute force thru my problems and told me that theres a gold cup waiting for me on the other side
I remember Furudate for my whole life, because his Masterpiece made me the person I am today.
no joke lmao like not even volleyball but haikyuu motivates me to do anything he really captured the meaning of life just right 😂
I got into soccer because of blue lock and it changed my life
Shoutout to @Kseniya / @Triana-Nero for most of these sources/credits 👀 the athletes video with translation and the rise of volleyball graph and all the interview translation with furudate sensei that makes this whole video possible .... or at least i knew them all from/through her 🧡
(though far as i remember, this video is not wholly accurate, dramatization and lack of sensei's true depth and hardwork in some parts) (BUT still i love the vid lol, it sparked joy in me, thanks dude)
Maybe is speculation but it shows how Furudate prob love volleball at young age and that "winning spirit" burns deep inside him.
such a good video, I sub.
I really liked Haikyuu and volleyball looked really interesting but i didn't want to do a team sport. Then i read Blue Box and I was enthralled with the badminton scenes so now I've been playing badminton for a year
WHERE DO I WATCH THAT DOCUMENTARY OR WHATEVER THT U PUT IN THE BACKGROUND
3:09 WHY IS PASTARRU HERE HELP ME
My one complaint about haikyuu is the lack of a second year. I felt they were setting it up with Ennoshita and Kinoshita getting a bigger role in the story, and it’s a shame for it to go to waste like that.
wow this is a brilliant videp
I remember I saw A guy play volleyball At school and his friends making fun of him saying ‘’Volleyball is for girls’’ they be laughing Making fun of him
3:11 pastarru...?
Bro where is Revy?
I miss her
haha it was long overdue for a new intro! might bring back a new revy intro in the future tho!
"in the land of the rising sun" youuuu lost me there. You didn't need to refer to Japan this way
i need to know, do i watch to the top or do i read the manga
Yiman: I want boys to think, "Volleyball is so cool."
Me: I want girls to STOP SIMPING FOR EVERY HAIKYUU CHARACTER YOU SEE IN THE STORY.
Where did you get this info?
Colourless Manga did something unlike US Pentagon's made a video game "America's Army" that is free to play
Heard it on Vice News said that the Game they made was meant to encourage gamers to enlist into their Army but only a small margin able to
BTW Training in the Army is alot harder than a N00b getting accustomed to become a pro-gamer
Haikyu introduced me to the world of volleyball and team Japan really inspired me to get into it. -now I'm even playing in a team and I freaking love it
Hi, do you have the title or the link of the video of the interview of the high school players you've shown in this video? Thanks.
i got realy into volleyball bc of haikyuu 😭
i heavily mess with haikyuu bro
where is revy
I will say the drawing were not the best but it was way more fluent then some anime moment
There are some panels in haikyuu that could rival some of the best in shonen history ,especially the closeups of Hinata .
if you watch haikyu, you simply can not like volleyball
I wish he had more artistic talent because the way he draws muscles is just embarrasing lmao
You’re a grown man stop calling another man sensei
3:14 | PASTARRU ANIMATION.
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY
YOOO SOMEONE ELSE NOTICED IT TOO
