Yammaguchi's story is one of the most relatable character when I first watched haikyuu, especially because I was also a substitute player in a sports team; when you only get a few minutes to play, you want to give it all to prove yourself, but I ended up making mistakes, so it felt like the whole world crumbled in that few minutes; Yammaguchi's story reminded me the process of improvement takes time to harness and bloomed, and since I've been more comfortable to excel moves

So much resilience and persistence to become good and the payoff has been amazing. Stories to consider as well are Ennoshita, Sugawara and Asahi coming back. The fear of being afraid is terrifying, but the fear of failing is worse for these players.

When you are talking in the video about times where you envy others who are good at a sport and they take it for granted even though you would do anything to do what they can do, that very much resonated with me. I sit on the bench every game even though i feel i should be on the pitch. Then i get put on when there are like 2 minutes left and i have only one play of the ball to prove myself to my coaches just like yamuda and like yamuda, alot of the times i dont do well in that situation because im all stiff and stuff and the game is also in its final minutes so its intense.
Its crazy how this anime video just changed my perspective on things.

What a good channel name. What a good video. As someone who struggles with failure Yamaguchi was a character I appreciated when first watching Haikyuu but couldn’t really love. Not because of anything wrong with him but because I was not ready to look at myself. Watching his journey as I grew older really made me think about my fear of failure more. Even now I truly struggle with it, but at the age of 30 I’m going back to school for my dream career, its not special, I’m not famous or incredibly talented but work hard enough and people will see that spark right? my favorite line in that, is in one game(i think with the last one in the second season) even after he is put back in the benches after scoring so some points, he turns back to Hinata, after Hinata had told him to score then ten, he tells him "next time i will score that 10" or something like that. as someone who relates to Yamaguchi far to much, that scene really hit me.. he got better, but like many others, he wasnt going to settle, he saw himself, in a game, that he could improve, and he was useful, but he still wasnt going to stop there.
Haikyuu and all its moments was actually the reason i started playing volleyball again, i used to play in middle school, but gave up after a really bad loss. I but specifically after seeing Yamaguchi and him overcoming all of his fear is just incredibly inspirational and easy for so many people to relate too.

If our mind and body didn’t have this frustration, and the ability to be self aware of these feelings and reactions, then we wouldn’t have these realizations in the first place. Then if we didn’t have the self belief to pursue the potential we have to just act, and the people to push us forward, we wouldn’t grow from those realizations.

What a great analysis of Yamaguchi's story, you absolutely highlighted many of the moments and reasons he is my favorite character in this show. I absolutely relate to his feelings of being left behind by his peers, like their talent puts then leagues beyond his reach. What he does with those feelings is truly inspiring, and when all his hard work pays off and he has that epic run of points against Seijou, that moment has me in literal tears, it is so powerful, I feel the pride and the joy in that moment of triumph. I also appreciate the lesson on being kind to yourself; like Yamaguchi, I am much harder on myself than I would ever be toward others, and it's an effort to be mindful about that negative self-talk, to forgive myself when I make mistakes.
I love all the character stories in Haikyuu!!, they all get such good development and moments to shine, but Yamaguchi's resonates the strongest for me. Thank you for highlighting his journey here!

ngl I relate to Yammaguichi a lot since I always see my mistakes bigger then my accomplishments, and whenever I finally do get an accomplishment or I finally do something I’ve been trying to do for hours I’m like disappointed on how long it took me to do it instead of celebrating because I know I can do better. But sometimes I’m to hard on myself and it leads to me being insanely frustrated, so I start doing whatever I was doing, like volleyball for an example, over and over again, like receives, or serves, ect. but that frustration makes me wanna become better and makes me wanna become better but it can also lead to me putting myself down with negativity.

I didn't understand this scene until the time came when I was such a yammaguchi. I'm on stage, are you still playing? Should I give up? This few-minute video made me realize how much I cared over these few years and how much I will continue to care. I won't give up completely, no matter what

    Main takeaways :
-Put your reps in, they will payoff in time
    -Don't be your worst enemy
-Failure is not an end but another start

This show got me hooked to volleyball, and ive played for the last 5 years now, played nationals, and even got recommended to the division 1 team for students.
went from barely making any receives and not even reaching entirely over the net, to making impossible receives and smashing the hell out of the ball.

Thank you for articulating how impactful this scene was! Well done. Sometimes I feel a little silly for liking an anime about high school boys playing volleyball lol but content like this reminds me just how strong and important the themes are

It's hard to explain this feeling to others in a field that we are engrossed in. Your friends and family are supportive by saying "you can be the best, you can do it," but they don't understand that when you work hard enough on something, you can see AND feel that there are some people that are simply out of your reach. It's not being down on yourself, it's just fact. The issues come when we think to ourselves, "if I'm not the best, I'm not good enough."
That's why this character just slaps so hard. That feeling of being an outlier suddenly disappearing because hard work paid off is one of the greatest feelings in life. That feeling of "I may not be the best, but I can contribute and fit in with them," is all of what some people need. Most people don't train for a marathon to win, they train to do better each time, and that's really all most need in life.

I started playing volkeyball because of Haikyuu, and i had the same problem yamaguchi had, my serves wouldn’t even reach the net or pass over it. My teammates were very sweet and supportive to me, I made points sometimes tho,. I love volleyball, but in the end I wasn’t strong enough to keep playing and trying to become better, not strong enough as yamaguchi was. I wish I continued playing volleyball
    Great video!!

I've recently ended my senior year of volleyball a few days ago and I've had a very similar story with Yammaguchi. I wasn't super athletic and the other players on my team were football and soccer players so it was hard to compete against them and I wasn't apart of the main lineup. But I strived to be better and learned how to do the float serve and joined the team as a pinch server that replaced my middle blockers.

I'm short and I played volleyball in high school. The feeling of not being good enough is something most players feel at some point. For those not gifted with height, innate talent or volleyball training from a young age, sucking can be crushing. If you work diligently and find a good coach, you can suck less. As a setter, our warmup was to set the ball against the wall 1000 times without dropping it. As a back row specialist, we had to chase a ball across a basketball court and try to dig it. When he serves an Ace with a float jumper, it is a powerful feeling. I enjoyed Haikyuu.

This is one of THE greatest moments of Haikyu!! Yamaguchi’s story arc is absolutely fantastic, also inspiring his senior Kinoshita to also push himself further. One thing I wsnt to add, for those who may not have read the entire Manga yet, or having done missed this detail…..[SPOILER WARNING]…….during the time skip flashback, Hinata, Kageyama, Tsukkishima and Yamaguchi’s final year is briefly mentioned. It describes how as third years, they made it to nationals again, and you see one frame, showing all four in uniform with their backs to us. You can clearly see the number on each players back, the number 1 shirt worn by Yamaguchi, yes that’s right Yamaguchi was team captain in their final year, and he not only led them to nationals, he led them to the semi finals, one stage further than Daichi. It is a sweet note to his story, but only that one frame tips you off. It’s easy to miss. I probably only noticed it, because after his argument with Tsukki, I always had him down as the future captain. Great vid. Ty.

The way you compared Shimada's journey to Tsukishima's is not something I have ever associated myself, and seeing the video two clips of them back to back you can see they wear the same number, which just show this paralel is probably on purpose.
God this anime is amazing and this video is great!

The mangaka did a stellar job with progressive character development that cumulates to huge moments. Couple that with the anime and the studio behind it doing such a damn good job at translating the visual metaphors from the manga brilliantly.

The second I saw that I remember thinking “oh sh….. I am going to watch the whole series aren’t I” XD. Getting through it rather quickly and loving every second of it

Why haikyu is better than any other sports anime is that it potrays a story of every charachter that we can relate to it just feels different from other animes it feels like something we experienced before in our day to day life
