It's a beach tournament you don't even really see much of, and Hinata inspiring Oikawa, which is the only real meat of the "arc". There is so much technique taught through the manga. So much detail. Haikyuu is the encyclopedia for Volleyball in my opinion. You can learn concepts and techniques quicker (at least you start to understand them) before anyone in real life tells them to you. Honestly, every coach has his own approach to the sport, so most of the time you won't even hear about certain concepts...and you'll miss out. Reading the Haikyuu manga (and watching the anime) just makes you a slightly better Volleyball player compared to if you didn't read/watch it. Haikyuu is just that complete. An encyclopedia.

As someone who read the manga after watching the movie, in my opinion at least I think it covered everything about as well as it could’ve, the emotional moments really stick out as powerful to me and the message of pushing yourself to your natural limits with Kenma is a powerful one. The choice to do the final rally from kenmas pov was a really strong choice and left me tearing up. That being sad, it’s easy to say this movie did feel a little rushed. Missing a bit of the dynamic scenes from previous matches but the animation quality itself is was overall spectacular, especially toward the end. I’d probably give it a 7/8 out of 10

There's no indication so far that there will be an OVA or a 3rd movie, in fact it was explicitly stated that these two movies would serve as the finale of the series, sure you have the example of Attack on Titans having like 25 final seasons but that's an exception, so there's nothing guaranteeing that there will be more Haikyu!! anime, that's why it's worrying that unless the announcement was a marketing lie, all that there's left is a 1.5 to 2 hour movie to adapt whatever they can fit in there.

The film literally encapsulated the entire match pretty much bar for bar in 80 minutes. The Nekoma match is longer than the Kamomedai and Jackals match, and Brazil isn't even an arc lmao. It's a beach tournament you don't even really see much of, and Hinata inspiring Oikawa, which is the only real meat of the "arc". Lets not pretend Jackals match was point for point like the Karasuno Nekoma match was. It was all central around highlights of Hinata and just how much he has grown despite when we had last seen him in his first year. Making a 2 hour film will work out fine, just like how any 2 hour film tells a story....

One interesting way to see the movie is that it may be a more accurate portrayal of what it's like to actually play volleyball. I've watched the film and it's great! Most of it is in the film BUT 1) you can't stay in the moment for even a second before the next thing happens. And 2) they're able to squeeze as much as they can because they skip points (a la matches before Shiratorizawa), the Nekoma match went through so long because you really were in the match experiencing everything as it happens. This isn't necessarily a good or bad thing, just a difference that I observed. The first point is definitely a big downside of the film. You're not allowed to breathe at all in between moments.

I honestly think the biggest sin was the shortened runtime, but not only just because there was so much cut content/shortened arcs and quotes (when ukai simply said “the hardest path is in fact the easiest” without the context of before), it was the fact that they couldn’t have gone wrong with a too-long movie, the entire overarching story between the two is how exhausting the match is, how long it drags out, the sapping of stamina of both teams to the point where they spend time DURING A RALLY hoping that the ball will just fall so they don’t have to move anymore. Missing out on that entirely was probably my biggest criticism, and the other one was the complete lack of reaction from the gym, sure you had the cheers and the cuts to reactions, but in the manga it is THE match going on, the place is going absolutely nuts to the point where Bokuto is looking over and getting inspired by just how nuts the place is going on these exhausting rallies with incredible spikes and digs, I don’t know, it just felt a little underwhelming for me

Sending a 🙏 for a final seasonal cour to adapt the final arcs. It would be a shame to not adapt them because they are incredible. I really want anime onlys to experience Furudate's writing reach its zenith. To shorten them would be unfortunate, to cut it entirely would just plain suck.

While Haikyuu up to season 4 was already good, how the manga continues afterwards elevated the series to a 11/10 for me. It's so unbelievably rare that a series somehow gets better with time, but Haikyuu even manages to end with a bitter sweet yet fully satisfying roar. With that said, I've been feeling completely dead inside since watching the movie yesterday, similar to game of thrones' ending. What the hell happened? So many pivotal scenes and breadcrumb stories were skipped, and the touching ones that were in (like Zukki and Yamaguchis serve&block part) were sped through with a few image flashbacks. Hinata's first few boom jumps in the manga still give me shivers, but the one we got in the movie was underwhelming as shit. I don't know how it's possible that Ukai senior's final ghostly handshake elicited next to no reaction from the theater audience.
Not once in the years I've waited for this movie did I think it could be bad or even mediocre. The source material is so insanely good and the shows prior season's have been incredible, even during the COVID era. Yuki Hayashi has been consistently bringing scenes to life through his music FOR YEARS, but after the movie, I wasn't able to come up with a single banger. Aside from Kenma's incredible final POV rally, I consider this movie a weak 4/10, which is lower than many of the throwaway OVAs.. I'm genuinely bummed for all the fans who already like the show but who will likely miss out on the manga now that there is a lower-effort medium available. Shit I'm bummed just in general to the point where my morning workout felt like an anemic slog. Maybe I'm the problem and had way too high expectations to think that this wouldn't be yet another half-baked anime movie.

I just came back from the cinema and even though im a die hard haikyuu fan, i got similar feelings. I don't know what were they thinking when they had around 10 episodes worth of content and decided to put it into a 80 minute movie. 10 episodes is roughly 4 hours. I kinda felt like watching a recap episode of the match to be honest. There's a ton of impactful scenes, that need proper build up and so far, haikyuu has done that incredibly well, like i've never seen an anime/manga that can create such good build up to a scene that hits you like a truck (tanaka cross spike or hinata receive for example), but here it just lacks that. Tsukki-yamaguchi moment was over so fast i barely noticed, hinatas big jump moment was probably the only thing that had a decent build up to it, but on the other hand, it had, in my opinon, awful music choice. The track was way to much uplifting and hero-like it just didnt fit and anime soundtracks are basically my favorite part of watching animes so i felt really disappointed with that scene in particular. Overall it wasn't bad, i still enjoyed it and had fun watching, but as someone who's a haikyuu fan for over 12 years and was really impacted by the series throughout, I think i had my expectations way too high.

I think that alot of the brazil arc can be cut out and moved more into a montage of what hinta did to get to the level he end up at and they could honestly end the series with him scoring the point where he puts his arms and says "im back" or whatever it was that he says. They can pan to Kagyamas devilish smile and maybe the reactions of his former teamates and then fade to black with him having his arms up. IMO that would finish off the series well showing hinta reached the peak and while the outcome of the match is a full circle moment, we dont need to see him win yo finish his story because the story is about him achieving his goals despite his disadvantages and i think that moment encapsulates that idea very well

Like most of you, saw the movie earlier. And although i enjoyed it, it did fall short of my lofty expectations.
I expected more build-up from certain scenes and more epicness from others. It made me think that having this all in 1 movie and not waiting for a weekly chapter to build up the hype took a lot of those aspects out of it.
And without getting into the specifics for spoiler reasons, i also preferred some words used in the manga translation over the subs here since it just gave more impact.
Overall, my take was this was more of a tribute movie over an actual animated movie adaptation of the source material. I still enjoyed it but the long wait since the last season to the release of this movie made the anticipation hard to match and unfortunately didnt do it for me

It was good for my Kenma-loving heart, but even then I was always waiting for Kageyama, Yaku, and Noya's shining moments. I didn't specifically remember what those moments were as it's been a while since my last reread, but I knew they had them bec Furudate had always emphasized the strengths of even his smallest side characters. This could get really boring in an animated format and could easily be condensed to show everyone watching the match together and to get the good points still in. I know people won't like that, but its probably whats going to happen. 35-45 minutes for Kamomedai match, 15 minutes Brazil, 10-15 minutes Jackals & Olympic scene. Does it feel short? Yes, and I'd love a S5. At this point we're not getting that though.

I just came back from watching the movie, I was pretty disappointed yet not too surprised because I assumed this would happen when I heard they were doing these movies. There were a lot of cut scenes and the emotional scenes they did put in didn't have any room to breathe because the pacing was too fast. The movie level animation was great but honestly I would give that up for a more thorough adaptation.

Hey ...I just have a very selfish demand...I know the video is about Haikyuu and I am sorry for commenting about something which isn't related to the video but....
If possible I would really love it if you could cover the character story of Vash from Trigun Stampede Remake By Studio Orange...I just feel like Trigun's remake is the most unappreciated thing in the anime industry...from the animation ( it is THE BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN PERIOD. ) , to the story ( incredible. ), to the sound tracks and characters...
By the end of ep3 , you are completely hooked in...I guess it goes so unappreciated becuz the first two eps are thoroughly used to set up the world. The world of trigun is very complex...full of mysteries n such.
And yes, I also hope that the Haikyuu manga gets justice...It was kinda sad to see the legendary battle get such less screen time. It still pains my heart...

Can anyone tell me if they cut out Hoshiumi's other game? Ik they showed him win at the end of the movie, but in the manga was the whole game shown?
I read the manga a while ago and some of my absolute favorite chars were shown there (Kiryuu, Hirugami), im gonna be so sad if their matches are just completely ommited

Honestly? I think Brazil will be shortened, based on the way the recap movies are cut - I think Pedro, Heitor, etc wouldn't be there, I think they'll do a montage, MAYBE a beach volleyball round then Black Jackals and then Kagehina fist bumping in the Olympics

I think they _are_ going to cut the whole Brazil arc. They'll gloss over it training montage-style.
Either the Kamomedai or Schweiden Adlers v. MSBY Black Jackals match will be drastically shortened. An argument could be made either way - the whole "who is the next Small Giant" storyline on one hand, and the Hinata v. Kagayama payoff on the other, so I think the Kamomedai match will be shortened if not cut entirely or just kind of glossed over as a leadup to them not getting to the finals of the tournament and going into the training montage, which I think is also a distinct possibility. I would hate that - I love Hoshiumi - but it saves having to introduce a whole new character to a potentially uninitiated audience and would leave more space for the Hinata v. Kageyama match.
The (possibly post-credit, as @francophiriamahia1900 suggests) end will be the shot of Hinata and Kageyama's fist bump after the first rally against Argentina with the voiceover copied straight from the manga.
I think there is a possibility the only way we're going to see the Kamomedai match animated is in an OVA or mini-series, regardless of the success of this first movie. [edit] And I don't think we'll ever see the Bokuto match animated.
Speaking of success: does anyone know how well it is doing? Where I went it was in a small room of a multi-screen cinema, which was optimistically maybe half full. Granted this was the second weekend of it running and in that cinema it was on at least once a day every day.
[edit] I loved the movie. I don't think they cut anything that was critical to the story, but they obviously definitely did cut stuff that fans will have missed (me included). By the same token, I felt there were definitely several moments that you had to know at least the anime for to understand what was going on - little "insider jokes", if you will. Like for example, they actually expanded the first meeting of Hinata and Kenma, but never explain what the context for that meeting was. And the emotional moments definitely hit home for me, very well supported by the amazing soundtrack.

I've been ranting, I don't like how much they skip, too many flashbacks, but I left the cinema unbelievably happy with what I watched, I never felt that with any movie

I agree that they will cut off 95% of the Fukurodani match, showing at least a couple of rallies but I also think they'll release an OVA with the match at some point.
That leaves us with roughly ~30 mins of each arc, Kamomedai, Brazil, and Jackals match. Which is quite good if you ask me, prolly Jackals match won't be as long as it's more of a celebratory match and wrapping up of the series. Also, the Kamomedai match doesn't have quite the moments to make it as long as other matches. Gao's rivalry with Hoshiumi can be left mostly undeveloped, and Hirugami's journey probably as well (though I'd really like if they didn't).
I have high hopes for this, the movie has been a revival for the series and it's doing reaaaaally good, so they might steer towards a more lenghty movie, or even another movie. Really hope they can deliver the great end this series deserves.

as a haikyuu fan since 2013 seeing the series end in just 2 movies is disappointing, i just watched the movie yesterday, i love it but thats because i love the story and the characters but another season 5 would be the best scenario, its dissapointing that the main reason we are having just 2 movies is because they are tired of animating haikyuu and i get its difficult to animate and they want to get the most profit. i hope we can get a short season for time skip or at least some ovas but i hope qe can see haikyuu animated fully

saw the movie yesterday, love it but it felt kinda short and there's no way in hell one other movie can take all the remaining manga material, anyways i love Haikyuu
