@@LockEnkiexactly. I thought this too. But now that we know Shiratorizawa was his paradise, it's even more profound. One of the best characters in the anime world, with such a short screen time.
Wow. “He’s just a weird guy, and that’s fine.” I think that’s such a great line that perfectly encapsulates his character. I really love tendo as a character and it was so great watching him because he’s always having SO much fun. To me, he was like a quirky Hinata because his influence truly stretches to everyone on the court. Great video dude you never miss!

Thank you so much for writing and sharing this, what a joy it is to watch!
I really liked his friendship with Ushijima. They’re both sort of in that socially awkward category but on opposite ends of the spectrum. It was nice to see how they sort of fit and work well. Ushijima might not have many conversation points outside of volley ball but he’ll listen to whatever Tendou has to say and respond. Tendou’s also fine with Ushijima not being super friendly because he lets Tendou do his own thing without judgement. And spoiler: I liked how Tendou told Ushijima that he’s totally okay to do any television interviews as Ushijima’s friend/teammate in high school when he becomes a famous athlete but it was actually himself that became a famous chocolatier and introduced Ushijima as his best friend instead. The final arc really showcased that they’re ACTUALLY good friends and it wasn’t one-sided either despite Tendou seemingly being the one to always approach Ushijima.
Tendou and Ushijima's friendship is one of the richest in the whole story of Haikyuu. We all had met someone or is actually the Tendou of the group and its really hard to find a friend that will accept you/them for their quirky behavior. They can be embarrassing, complicated, and overbearing at times but I believe that there is no better friend that them because they are straightforward yet perceptive. They clearly know how to read the situation and knows exactly when and how to push the right buttons and yet, people who are overly sensitive gets put off because they are too focused on complying on the social norms that society has shoved to us throughout our lives. The people like Tendou are one of the most genuine people that you'll ever meet and I love that part about him. He is not fazed by the grandeur that other people posses and sees them as who they are.
I love them together because neither of them are very socially comfortable. They both do not communicate like normal people and they’re very close to opposites of each other. while Wakatoshi is reserved and conservative, and doesn’t make good conversation, tendou goes out of his way to include him and joke with him anyway. He’s really the only person we see Wakatoshi open up around, which goes to show just how friendly tendou really is. Ps also they are canon besties, my heart is crying
It really warms my heart how kind Tendou actually is. Like when he was worried about Hinata because he had no place to stay in the training camp he snuck into. It's really like you said, "He's not a bad guy. He's just a weird guy, and that's fine."
tendo's story is also just a great representation of the neurodivergent experience and how having a safe space to express yourself can be so important, even if others don't entirely understand how you perceive and engage with the world. i think that's why such a huge part of the fanbase loves him! (plus he became a chocolatier, like talk about unexpected but weirdly in character LOL) great video as always :)

Haikyuu feels so real because, once you take out all the masterful editing, it's all quite mundane and unimportant. The most real part is the emotional core of sportsmanship. Sport sometimes has that: the weird guy finding his place in the World through a game. I took up skateboarding for a while, I had no passion for it, I only had two decks in my life and ended up giving the second one away after few years. But the little gang I had to skate around with will live rent-free in my heart forever. We basically were all weird guys who found each other by chance. We skated and it never amounted to anything, we never had any gain out of it and only did it because we loved doing it. And that's sport for ya.

One detail which is a bonus is after Tendou became a successful patisserie and Ushijima a successful volleyball player, they did not publicize their friendship, despite Tendou saying he would tell the world back in highschool. This just shows how sincere their friendship is that it is not for show.

天童(Tendo In Japanese means the heaven ‘s child ) and 覺( Satori means aware , understand from an enlightened) All the characters’s names means a lot in Haikyuu :) in a Japanese folklore there is a guess monster singing the song that Tendo is singing : what is broken ? It’s human ‘s heart … the guess monster in the folk story never hurt people but stay in the corner and tell people what is going on Bc this monster knows human heart but he never bother or attack any human beings…. Just some info sharing and thank you for creating so many beautiful videos about my fav anime !!! I am a big hunter Xhunter and Haikyuu fan as well :) keep up the amazing work
this makes me happy. haikyuu is one of the only animes that i'll watch. sixteen year old me clicked on the show while searching for something to pass the time. I never expected to love something so much - I am grateful and surprised. Tendou was one of those characters that I bonded with - immediately. I see a lot of similarities between us and I just really loved his character. I wished for a paradise like he had - I always wanted to play sport when I was little but I was ridiculed out of it, unfortunately. I've seen a few people in the comment section saying that he's good representation for neurodivergent people and I agree - as that is also the case for me. Haikyuu has honestly changed my life (for the better ofc) - as ridiculous as that sounds, it genuinely has.
This video is actually amazing =) Tendou is such an interesting and amazing character! Maybe that's why he's on of my fav's. But seriously now, I don't think I've ever seen anyone who could portray Tendou's character perfectely like this. This video was absolutely great to watch!
When the first seasons aired I did too. Because gigguk made a joke about it being Free the volleyball version so I though it just be gay fan service started in 2016
I think that that's why I love both haikyuu and blue lock(football manga) and the same reason why I love world trigger you can see that these shows genuinly love all of their charcaters not Just the main core
@@bobbyzamora6389 Right? Like so many Shonen manga and Anime are usually life or death situations yet a simple volleyball game has higher stakes and emotions than most shonen.
based on his conversation with ushiwaka and hinata, I would love to have a friend like tendou. i want a friend like him. every one needs a tendou in their lives
from the v start i never rly view tendou in a negative light. hes just interesting person/character to me. and maybe i adore him bcuz i relate to his strangeness but i think the main reason is the way hes so unapologetically him (wc im quite envious of). wish i also had my own "paradise" that couldve helped me be comfortable in my skin.. heh thank you for this video! i enjoy a lot! ❣️
I just finished rewatching Haikyuu in its entirity, and I've come to realize just how many of the characters have some kind of neurodivergent streak to them, some more clearly defined than others. Which, having both adhd and autism myself, is something I must say I quite appreciate, since it makes a lot of these characters very relatable in a way you dont see all that often elsewhere.
@@justmyopinion79 Lets see off the top of my head; Kageyama and Kenma are both definitely autistic, Tsukishima probably is too and Hinata might have adhd. Satori is also some kind of nd, possibly also autism but I find it harder to rly pin down (Otherwise why bring it up under this vid?) and Ushijima's very literal, straightforward but deadpan bluntness may also suggest some kinda autism. Bokuto might also have either adhd or autism, suggested not so much just by his hyperactivity as by his mid match breakdowns when things become too much for him. I'm probably missing some characters, but these are the ones I can think of right now. I'm also fairly sure most of these arent intentionally written to specifically be neurodivergent so much as that the way they are written just happens to line up, but nonetheless those signs are there.
@@TheSpeep No, no, no. Let’s not romanticize mental illness by saying that characters that are slightly quirky are neurodivergent. None of those are right except maybe Hinata having ADHD. Kageyama is just a bad communicator, Ushijima is just simple and deadpan, Tsukishima has literally no divergent traits whatsoever. Kenma is an introvert who loves video games and doesn’t enjoy going out of his comfort zone, if he’s “definitely autistic” then so is half the world on that basis alone.
Man I love this boy Even if i'm a bit sad that the dub really do this character justice at all. Personally I feel like the Best thing that there is to tendo is that he's really straightforward to others while being himself.
Also Just a question i'm a big fan of the haikyuu vids so I genuinly think you'll love blue lock and would love to see some coverage od that when it comes out
Honestly, this video is one that i have been wanting to see for quite a while, mainly because its funny how Tendou while been by far one of the more interesting and deeply realistic characters in the series, is only briefly talked about by most content creators and even then not to this amount of detail. But of course i should have expected this from Aleczandxr and i can say its beause of videos like this that makes me always expectant of his next videos. Keep It Up✊
This was really well done. Tendou is one of my favorite characters in Haikyuu, and this video helped put into words a lot of the reasons I relate to him. I recently decided to step away from doing theatre and acting at my school, and Tendou’s relationship with volleyball is very similar to my relationship with theatre. I appreciated getting to see one of my favorite characters represented and analyzed so well and beautifully 🤩
I find it interesting that I liked him from the start. I found him to be funny, empathetic and just cool. He did not seem to be overbearing and mean at all but rather just broken inside. I felt an immediate connection with him since my sport is my outlet to be happy and just forget everything else. Great video and nice analysis!!
I love Tendou so much. He's such a special boy Even if he comes off as a bit aggressive (though undeniably hilarious) on the court, he proves to have a true heart of gold once off it. During the ballboy training arc he was so worried for, and so sympathetic towards Hinata. This goofball may have had a rocky start, but he definitely has a permanent place in my heart
AHHHHH. Tendou has been in my top 3 favorite haikyuu characters since i first watched the show, back when there were only two seasons. He's..... very dear to me, being someone who has struggled with harassment due to the ways i look and act as a neurodivergent person. I'm so so glad you put a spotlight on his kindness, which to me feels essential to his character but that many seem to forget in favor of his, admittedly very fun too, quirky personality and tendency to taunt and annoy people. The way he looks after the first years in his own way and the worry he has for Hinata having a place to sleep during the ball boy arc... Just as you said, hes a strange guy but clearly not a bad one. Now, manga spoilers ahead: I especially love that his little post timeskip cameo shows him being the one to have an interview taken about, and that Ushijima is the one to join in. It's a lovely inversion of Tendou's words about getting to say he was friends with Ushijima in the future- The fact that this is about *him* instead, that he's found a passion he clearly is good at, and that he's *still* friends with Ushijima! Their friendship has always been on the more understated side, its obviously not focused on a ton, but it's just so sweet. Two kind of socially challenged guys getting to be themselves together because they don't mind each other's quirks :) It's nice. I love them. They make me happy. Now, though I'm a bit late to the party, thank you for this lovely video about my favorite character. I enjoyed it a lot, and wish you much luck in the future
I watched this video the first time you posted, and I cried the whole night. I was just graduating from uni which taken me longer than I should. One of the biggest reason is because they are my paradise. I never have anyone try to understand me before, until I got into high school and university. As funny as it sounds, schools sounds more like home to me than my own house. Now I'm watching this video again and still cry. I still havent achieve anything yet, but I really thankful for the people I met there. I got chills when I watched that tendo scene, bcs damn its just so relateable yet I believe it will be overlooked by most people. Thank you for making video about him, thank you so much
I would've never really put these things togethert without you man. It's insane how you weave these narratives and find meaning in the smallest things it's really amazing

I would love to get just a glimpse into your analysis process. I swear, every video of yours that I watch gets me more hyped and makes me want to go back and rewatch these shows with the new lens that I leave your videos with. Not just that, but makes me fall more in love with the shows and leave with a deeper understanding of the characters. Thank you for sharing. I don’t usually comment on videos, but felt like I had to share.
And thank you for commenting! I hope you feel comfortable enough to do so again in the future, but either way, thanks for sharing and checking out the videos, and I’m happy that you enjoy them.
I was so gonna make a video on him. In his intro he looked like someone who gets off on blocks or something. But his back story and when he said Farewell paradise I felt everything he stands for. Such a good character
Me: I used to play volleyball so this volleyball anime is really fun! Me after watching your videos: oh wow now I'm crying thinking about the anime that made me so happy and passed me so many hidden messages.
Thanks for making the video and anyone else and everything that went behind it, tendo displays almost my whole and personality and actions. It's reliving Knowing how to explain and describe my self in the way you and anyone else did. Thank you
I love Tendou-kun. There was one thing you didn't mention that might be worth considering (anime SPOILERS though...). I can't say I've given it a lot of thought so I may be barking up the wrong tree but I have always thought that Tendou's eventual career as a chocolatier was an expression of his indulgence of his own pleasure in contrast to Kuroo and Tsukki's self-effacing style of blocking.
To me, Satori is someone who truly lives his own life in his own way. Shiratorizawa was simply the first place where they accepted him for it, but he never went out of his way to be liked.
I really liked Tendo as well, and what he brings to the table for his team. Because we always follow the likes of Kageyama and Hinata, when looking at these other characters with less of a drive for volleyball, it feels as if their story or emotioms or engagements with the sport are 'less' than what we're used to. But in reality Tendo is massively engaged with the team and the sport, and is extremely good and diligent at it. Leaving aside that he is actually kind (which both the commentator and many of you in the comments have highlighted with very nice examples), we can draw some conclusions about his work ethic from the timeskip. He finds a somewhat querky profession (of course) and executes on it at a top level - which i think reflects his philosphy of life back in highschool too. He does want to play volleyball in a fun way, but very far from the 'fun' in the way Josenji understands it. He wants fun and offers top quality of play, team spirit, creativity, diligence and his best effort, in his own weird way
As a middle blocker when I go up for double blocks for outsides and right sides I know are good cutters I stole his move and it works so damn well cutting off the angle even if they don’t consciously their angle
I've come to learn something important in anime: Those behave in an odd way despite being in a position of power or part in an elite group are probably more than what the eye sees first. You just got wait for the writer to give them their time to shine
Might be completely out of left-field, but I feel like you might enjoy Utsuru no Hako to Zero no Maria, and it's a series that definitely needs some deeper analyses on RUclips for it.
“Farewell, my paradise” hits different after this video. Well done
Thanks!

This video is wonderful, thank you. To see Tendou be so comfortable in a team with people who accept him even if they don't truly understand him, where he can play as himself and be as weird as he wants...that's just so awesome!
I really like Tendou
great video
Thanks!
i love how much he interacted with karasuno while they were playing even if he was trying to mess with their heads.
I am a big hunter Xhunter and Haikyuu fan as well :) keep up the amazing work
Tendou was great through n through. He needed a friend and found that friend in Wakatoshi.
Minor spoiler here
But I think its the sweetest thing that after the time skip, Tendo and Ushiwaka are still bestfriend.
"Isn't what drives most people childish in general"
That is his best quote IMO
He's the reason that the Shiratorizawa game was so good. Better character than Ushijima, fact.
this makes me happy. haikyuu is one of the only animes that i'll watch. sixteen year old me clicked on the show while searching for something to pass the time.
Lmao I love how you clarify that you weren't shit talking the female coach
She (probably) did nothing wrong!
This video is actually amazing =) Tendou is such an interesting and amazing character! Maybe that's why he's on of my fav's. But seriously now, I don't think I've ever seen anyone who could portray Tendou's character perfectely like this. This video was absolutely great to watch!
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it!
I was surprised how deep some of these characters are. I wrote this manga off for a long time
When the first seasons aired I did too. Because gigguk made a joke about it being Free the volleyball version so I though it just be gay fan service started in 2016
Shame. It's one of the best shonen ever.
Your videos always make me remember why I love haikyuu so much
Why is it that every Haikyuu videos you make always makes me cry 😭💞 (actually the other vids does too)
Hahaha, I’m sorry about that… thanks for watching!
@@Aleczandxr i ended up rereading Haikyuu for the nth times 😭💯
you have a way of telling their story, that always makes me tear up. thank you for this wonderful summary
from the v start i never rly view tendou in a negative light. hes just interesting person/character to me. and maybe i adore him bcuz i relate to his strangeness but i think the main reason is the way hes so unapologetically him (wc im quite envious of). wish i also had my own "paradise" that couldve helped me be comfortable in my skin.. heh
thank you for this video! i enjoy a lot!
Uhhh really? I kind of doubt that, sounds like confirmation bias. Who else is neurodivergent then?
@@justmyopinion79 you've got to remember the kids got ADHD and autism I don't know why it matters if he wants to make connections
Man I love this boy Even if i'm a bit sad that the dub really do this character justice at all. Personally I feel like the Best thing that there is to tendo is that he's really straightforward to others while being himself.
Also Just a question i'm a big fan of the haikyuu vids so I genuinly think you'll love blue lock and would love to see some coverage od that when it comes out
I'll be checking out the Blue Lock anime!
Keep It Up✊
Hope you enjoyed it, thanks for the support!
Thank you!
I love Tendou so much. He's such a special boy
Even if he comes off as a bit aggressive (though undeniably hilarious) on the court, he proves to have a true heart of gold once off it. During the ballboy training arc he was so worried for, and so sympathetic towards Hinata. This goofball may have had a rocky start, but he definitely has a permanent place in my heart
Never thought I’d say this, but good job Coach Washijo for not giving a shit about Tendou being Tendou!
This video made my day and made me cry but in an emotional way. Thank u sm. Tendou best boy.
You’re very welcome! Happy you enjoyed it so much.
Now, manga spoilers ahead:
I especially love that his little post timeskip cameo shows him being the one to have an interview taken about, and that Ushijima is the one to join in.
My pleasure! Happy you enjoyed.
Thank you for making video about him, thank you so much
It’s my pleasure, so glad you enjoyed :)
9:55 the subversion of this moment in the manga was beautiful

I would've never really put these things togethert without you man. It's insane how you weave these narratives and find meaning in the smallest things it's really amazing
Much appreciated as always Joshua! :)
Love the videos man, especially the haikyuu ones. Don't get me wrong tho I love watching your other videos too.
I love these videos. I got into haikyuu semi recently and finished the whole manga. These videos always give me a different outlook and view of what I already enjoyed and make me appreciate the nuance of it all. So thanks for making these videos! I love them
My pleasure! So glad you enjoy them and find them valuable!
Every time I watch one of your videos, I develop a new found appreciation for my favourite characters and shows. Another great video!
Thank you!
I was so gonna make a video on him. In his intro he looked like someone who gets off on blocks or something. But his back story and when he said Farewell paradise I felt everything he stands for. Such a good character
Hearing you speak and your perspective on these anime/manga is just a delight
Thank you!
I relate to Tendo so much, it's almost hurtful. Thanks for this video it's great !
tendou's my fav character, hes so relatable and nicee
バッキバキに折れ!何を?心をだよ
こっなごなに砕け!何を?精神をだよ
Tendou is the most relatable character imo and he will forever be my favorite fictional character.
This might be one of my favourite videos of yours tbh, amazing job
Thank you! :)
Me: I used to play volleyball so this volleyball anime is really fun!
Me after watching your videos: oh wow now I'm crying thinking about the anime that made me so happy and passed me so many hidden messages.
Super underrated character. Definitely in my top 5
After the video I kind of remembered all the times he messed with Ushijima and realized how much Ushijima's straightforwardness meant for him.
Your analysis about Haikyuu are soooooooooo awsome
Thanks!
He's one of my favourite character ....and his quote, " Goodbye my paradise"...struck me so much!!!
Haikyuu has no unlikable character!!
Who would've thought that Tendo's next paradise would be chocolate
this honestly reminds me of kanoka, finding a place, finding a home, finding a place to fit in.
Thanks for making the video and anyone else and everything that went behind it, tendo displays almost my whole and personality and actions. It's reliving Knowing how to explain and describe my self in the way you and anyone else did. Thank you
You're very welcome, thank you for watching.
Great thumbnail
I love Tendou-kun.
There was one thing you didn't mention that might be worth considering (anime SPOILERS though...).
I can't say I've given it a lot of thought so I may be barking up the wrong tree but I have always thought that Tendou's eventual career as a chocolatier was an expression of his indulgence of his own pleasure in contrast to Kuroo and Tsukki's self-effacing style of blocking.
Yeah, didn’t want to talk about post-anime stuff due to spoilers. You may be onto something though!
The hiatus is over. We can smile once again.
He wants fun and offers top quality of play, team spirit, creativity, diligence and his best effort, in his own weird way
In every team sport there is that player that you would LOVE as a teammate but HATE as an opponent
i.e. Rodman (NBA), Sherman (NFL), etc etc
Ayyyy new video of haikyuu Ty!!!
I love this beautiful miracle boy.
Before watching it... I wanna tell you that i love you, I love how you think and what you do
Many thanks, I hope you enjoyed the video!
I vibe with Tendou. His story his why he become my favourite character out of every single character from anime only and Manga.
Thank you Alecz. Such a Good Video!
My pleasure! Glad you liked it and thanks for watching!
Your videos are soooo good to watch!
Cheers!
Thank you very much!
Amazing work as always!
Thanks!
This is so wholesome.
Tendou is my favourite character
Love your videos
I like how detailed u can explain stuff.
Happy to hear it :) Hope you enjoyed this one!
As a middle blocker when I go up for double blocks for outsides and right sides I know are good cutters I stole his move and it works so damn well cutting off the angle even if they don’t consciously their angle
F yeah a video on our boy tendou by our boy aleczandxr
i never loved a character this much.
I've come to learn something important in anime: Those behave in an odd way despite being in a position of power or part in an elite group are probably more than what the eye sees first. You just got wait for the writer to give them their time to shine
i just cry thinking of tendou's past-
Time to rewatch I guess
Farewell, my paradise.
Tendo is one of my favorites from the series. He has Ichimaru Gin vibes without the tendency to murder.
He's got the tendency to volleyball murder
Might be completely out of left-field, but I feel like you might enjoy Utsuru no Hako to Zero no Maria, and it's a series that definitely needs some deeper analyses on RUclips for it.
