I went from Help Desk to Team Lead to now System/Network Administrator within two years. I'm looking to go to Cloud or Cybersecurity next. Your channel has definitely helped me in my IT career, along with others. I was a Security Guard for 7 1/2 years before IT.
Just interviewed with Geek Squad at a local Best Buy. That to me seems to be a GREAT start because I have two computers degrees both in networking, so I'm hoping those would help. Even if it doesn't I'll be working on technology, which is a DREAM of mine.
Once you get a little experience start looking for IT jobs for local or state gov't. The benefits are normally good and they have a better budget for tools and training employees.
@@brentwiley3330 100%.. I wish somebody told me to do that 20 years ago. I'm playing catchup now. Most government jobs require certs so make sure to keep up on them.
I keep watching videos like this, because even though I just graduated with my AA and am transferring to a BA, I've got my A+N+Sec+, I've worked at an MSP helpdesk for a year, I STILL don't feel like I have any idea what I'm doing. Thank you to everyone who gives advice, people are listening
Great content! Looks like I'll need to brush up on my coding skills if I want to transition to cybersecurity. So far, I've studied CCNA, Network+, and Security+, but there's always more to learn. Thanks for the guidance!
Question what should someone do if they are making 70k now going back to school for IT but most help desk only pay 22$ or less to get experience. When you can’t take a pay cut! I need experience while I’m in school getting bachelors but won’t be worth anything I don’t have skills. I have bills and family and can’t live on 22$ or less!
Its really hard to find a $70k/year entry level job in any field. Ive seen plenty of entry level tech jobs at $60k ... you just have to keep looking and grinding... it will take longer to find it but they are out there.
@@TheBeardedITDad I appreciate it! It's a bit of a quandary im in. I may take one for 60k and see if I can swing it. Thanks for your comment! Love your content it really helps!
@@Wordplay80 I plan to have my IT cybersec bachelors degree end of next year, Sec+ cert red team cert, Home labs and see if I can just get into a Cyber job. I figure if I can get all three of those on my resume I can land something and show that I learning and have the knowledge. I not against the help desk at all its just financial and taking care of my family.
I WAS THINKING IF I WERE TO BUY THE VOUCHER FOR EJPT SHOULD I GO FOR THE 249 DOLLAR ONE OR THE 299 DOLLAR YEARLY PLAN THAT HAS THE EXAM VOUCHER ALSO INCLUDED ONE NOW BOTH ARE HAVING 100 DOLLAR OFF FOR A LIMITED PERIOD AND I HAVE A CASH CRUNCH , I DNT EXACTLY KNW THIS BUT I THINK THE 249 DOLLAR ONE IS ONLY HAVING VOUCHER VALUE FOR 3 MONTHS AFTER THAT WOULD THE VOUCHER EXPIRE OR IS VOUCHER VALID FOR A YEAR. I WAS WONDERING IF AFTER 3 MONTHS ONLY THE TRAINING LAB ACCESS WOULD BE OVER BUT THE VOUCHER WOULD BE VALID FOR LONGER OR NOT ??
Hello I.T. Dad. i have been working with bestbuy for over 5yrs as a geeksquad computer repair tech. they laidoff me couple months ago. still unemployed how can i jump start my career? i have comptia A+ cert. no coding knowledge mostly hardware :/ thank you so much.

I was able to make it all the way to Director of Network Operations with no Coding Skills. Ya know, I'm in security myself right now. You're giving me hope. How'd you go about the change? How would you recommend changing a resumé?
