    1) Get some easy cert
    2) Get a help desk job
    3) While working help desk try to help anywhere you can
    4) get more certs
    5) Apply for more jobs after 6 months -1 year. Or ask your current place you want to go to a specific department (networking, operations etc.)

      Research the company first.
      I work in IT, have a degree and you need experience because it's not something you can do in 9 months. It awful when these people misinform the average person. I can tell this person is honestly very rare. It's so much you have to learn to do security it's not something you can do in 9 months on average. That's a complete lie. I get calls and emails every day. There are so many different things you can do in computer science (pure computer science) and IT( information technology) are not exactly the same thing. That's why you need a degree. The truth is learning everything takes years. You will never know everything. You specialize in a particular area and it' takes time to learn about computers hardware and software. I've done both. I don't like getting my hands dirty so I like software and I never have to go into an office. It takes hard work, studying and a lot and often. I love to learn for the money. Just being honest.
      Cloud computing is interesting and is in high demand. Look at an example of resumes for that exact role.
      Write a functional resume. One PAGE. It usually is scanned by a computer not a person. Put the top 3-5 skills at the top of the resume.
      Speaking with good grammar. If you don't have excellent grammar, sorry. These men have good grammar and are well spoken.
      As a company recruiter I want to know if you have experience with the skillset that we are looking for in our company. I hope this Currently have worked in Technology since 1997.

    This dude is the definition of the grind it until you own it mindset.
    I’m a former paramedic that went from boot to station chief in about 10mo because I NEVER stopped learning.
    As a supervisor, I was never in the office. I was always monitoring radio traffic and going to calls for scenes I had never worked as a medic, and never as a supervisor.
    “Can I carry something?” “Can I run vitals?” I always approached my crew as an added hand, not an iron fist of judgment. If I had questions or comments, I’d make a randomized scenario to run with the ENTIRE station AFTER pulling the crew aside to ask questions privately.
    It was usually to learn some hive wisdom, not to criticize… unless their logic train derailed.
    I’m looking into either cybersecurity or networking for my next stable career choice and these videos gives me a good idea of how to evaluate my own talents and interests to find the route I can grind away at.
    I’m happy to see tech guys that are good at what they do have a similar mindset.

I see a lot of changes happening at the company I work for and I am getting myself prepared for the shift. A lot of gems in this video. He is right, Cybersecurity is not an entry level job. Help desk phone support is. Help desk technician are limited to what they can do. They do not have access to certain tools that can fix an end user’s issue. On top of that, they can only be on the phone for a certain amount of time.
    Keep up the good work. ✌🏾

    • @KnowFatigue
      @KnowFatigue 10 месяцев назад +3

      I urge you to continue to listen.
      I am not gate keeping cybersecurity. Nor am I looking to complain or argue. I am merely stating the existing environment and the atmosphere. Companies are most often... looking for candidates that already have a baseline of IT and Cybersecurity skills and knowledge. That's what I mean by Cybersecurity is NOT entry level. It's a myth and its dishonest. Can you have "entry cyber roles" yes. But even THOSE roles are more "mid-level" in terms of IT knowledge and skills in general.
      So what I'm saying is, you will more than likely HAVE to upskill and SELF teach yourself a lot... It's rare and truthfully it's unrealistic to expect that companies will "sponsor" your learning, training, etc AND pay you a decent salary

      I dislike physical reading.
      I LOVE video courses. So Udemy, Pluralsight, CBTNuggets, ACloudGuru, these are some of my favorite learning platforms to prepare for most certifications...
      I play videos on 1.5x-2.0x speed. For whatever reason, I can pay attention better and of course I get done the video course in a shorter amount of time
      Then, I find practice exams and I GRIND THEM. Repetition is the mother of skill. I'll do a bundle of practice exams, 2, 3, even 4 times until I'm consistently scoring above 90%.

    Thank you so very much for this video. I have been watching so many vidoes on Cybersecurity. Well over 100 vids. This video have been the best I have watched by far and I have gotten soo many notes. David did a great job with details, thank you. This level of details have been lacking in most of the vids I have watched. Would love for you 2 to do more vidoes together.

    Had a job for about 15 years in the telecommunications industry. Went back to college for IT about half way through college, landed a job as an IT support engineer. Was support engineer for about 2 years. At the same company took on a new position as technical alignment engineer. Did that for about 8 months. Along the way I got my net+, sec+, CySA+, other cloud certs and training. Was very blessed to only apply to one cybersecurity position at a company that I wanted to work for, and was the top candidate. Along the way I would always see RUclips videos of how to break into the cybersecurity field quickly, but it typically always consisted of applying to thousands of jobs to only land a job at a company that would likely cause burn out in the first 6 months to year and make you hate the cybersecurity field. Sometimes the fastest route isn’t always the best.

    I really want to transition from nursing to tech precisely cyber security but I feel like the tech world makes it so difficult for new people to come in. Like the whole hiring process is too mystified. I dont think its fair on people who are trying to come in fresh without experience. They ask for too much experience, how will i get the experience if you dont hire me. Also what I have noticed is most people lie on their resume to get in. Sad

    Honestly enjoyed how informative this was and how brutally truthful he was in his answers and advice. I strongly agreed with the help yourself first advice before asking others for help. It’s ideal to have a career plan, learn the industry, and learn what exact role you’re trying to get into. I’m taking google’s coursera courses right now and soon will be studying for my security+. I thought maybe I should wait until after I’m certified to apply for jobs but I went ahead and started applying for help desk/support, or even entry level & jr security analyst positions. I will continue to utilize my linkedin and network more. Keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks for this video.

      @ms_gy you really should consider passing Sec+ first before the Google Cybersecurity course and I only say this because the google course helps reinforce what you studied to pass the Sec+. It should be noted that Courses 7 and 8 are zero help in your Sec+ studies and are quite long. (Python scripts, and Job preparation). Minus spending a lot of time on SQL, courses 1 - 6 have some use but you’re better off making these two credentials as separate goals and not mixed.
      Coursera course is more about learning the basics and a small fraction of what can be used in a job of cyber security. Security+ you’re mainly studying to pass an exam. It’s two different approaches of study. Also, do not rely only on the Coursera course to pass Sec+. It didn’t cover everything I thought I saw on the exam itself.

    I’m discovering similar things with resume writing. I have not written nor used a resume myself for over 20 years. Trying to extract skills that I either acquired from my military service or picked up along the way the majority of these skills are not even remotely relevant for the jobs I’m targeting. I’m totally rebuilding my resume specifically targeting specific jobs. Yeah it may be a good idea to have a longer resume with the wide range of skills if it is getting posted somewhere that employers go into and find someone. If you’re submitting an application and a resume for a specific job it needs to target what the employer is looking for. Remove the other non relevant information.

    Hellow I.T .I am a single mum of three and I had my first degree from computer science. Actually I have a degree and an ordinary diploma in computer science. During my project in ordinary diploma I had it in mind to write a project on cyber security. Actually then I didn't even know if there was anything like cyber security. But I just had the inspiration in me that I want to protect people or companies who have been facing security issues. I just had the feeling that I should create an app which can be used to protect this companies from all this problems. But I didn't have the knowledge or someone good enough to guide me. So I didn't continue with the project. But after my first degree I got to understand better and I knew of cyber security and I do really want to get there. So I will keep watching and I will always need guidelines. Thank you for your good work

    definitely wouldn’t say the degree is worth nothing i think a lot of company’s ask for it the rubric i’ve heard is you need at least 2 out of 3 which is education, experience, and certifications if you have at least 2 of those 3 you can make it

    • @TheBeardedITDad
      @TheBeardedITDad  6 месяцев назад

      I disagree I dont think you need any of thought if you have the right mind set and drive. I know this for a fact because when i got my start I was a college dropout, I had no experience and no certifications and was able to land an entry level job.

    • @KnowFatigue
      @KnowFatigue 5 месяцев назад

      I was exaggerating. Degrees are useful and helpful. I meant more in the context of WHERE does your degree belong on your resume? It belongs very much so bottom or last page. It isn't high priority. You most likely will not receive an interview (which is the objective of the resume) due to your degree.
      There's not even an "IT Gold Standard" university. Like there's IVY league schools... there Wharton Business School.... but there isn't really anything super wide known for IT/Cloud/Cyber/Networking roles.
      And the IT Bearded Dad is surely correct. You don't "need' either. But I'd also like to mention how competitive everything is today... and how the "entry" standards most definitely have changed over time. Companies are asking for more and they are more SURE of what they want. What it took to get into IT/Cyber 2, 4, 5, 10 years ago is NOT the same today. 2023 and 2024 have been HORIFIC job markets and financial recessions which definitely isn't helping the job search experience for many new comers. Which is why I URGE to upskill and do MORE and try to become as much of a standout candidate as much as possible.

    Not done yet with the video, not sure if he will specifically mention this, but what about this notion of everybody recommending/preaching to make it ULTRA SPECIFIC AND MEASURABLE as in "Reduced upcoming tickets in that area by 30%" or "Automated xx processes, that lead to savings of 30.3232$" .... I BET MOST OF THOSE PERCENTAGES OR NUMBERS ARE MADE UP......... Is that really necessary, tho it's most likely made up anyways? As if every Help desk dude or sysadmin or whatever knows the CONCRETE business impact his doings had..... Any Input on this issue? Please? 😀

    • @KnowFatigue
      @KnowFatigue 5 месяцев назад

      I did try to elaborate on this exact bullet point.
      So Job Experience bullet points: 1) In general... if you CAN input metrics, numbers, dollar signs, percentages, or time reduced... its an AWESOME metric to add. Basically "I accomplished/did x by doing y and this achieved/resulted in z.
      2) No its very difficult to come up with objective metrics for EVERY bullet point, I'm only recommending maybe 2-3 bullet points especially for the first one per job experience. Because again at the end of the day... you get paid for what you CAN DO. Not just listing meaningless tasks. So if you mention the BUSINESS IMPACT or the business RESULTS of your actions... that's the language of hiring managers and recruiters
