Ford had the Ranchero before the El Caminos came along. The Ranchero was first introduced in 1957, and 1959. They paused a while then brought them back even as a derivative of the Ford Falcon. This is a great Vlog, I enjoy your narratives, humor... Love to follow along!
My uncle had a big block ranchero when he was a kid for about a week before his dad took it back said "you gonna kill yourself and I'd rather have you instead of this Ford"

Hey Derek I have panels that will take care of the rust behind the rear wheel wells and door panels, floor boards everything if you want to take care of the rebuild. I had a 1960 El Camino but lost it in a garage fire along with my 1971 Chevelle and a 69 Camaro. The body parts and engine was in another barn on my property

The show wouldn't be interesting with your good sense of humor. You make me laugh. Keep up the good work my friend.. I look up to you bec . I wish to be just like you. Your my idol. 🙂🙂🙂
This movie had everything! Suspense, sadness, frustrations, joy and lots of humor. The protagonist fought against unsurmountable odds and at the end the antagonist just proved, that if you keep trying, a little TLC goes a long way towards fixing what was broken inside after years of abuse and neglect. This was a classic movie of the journey was always the goal not the destination. The hero gets the girl, the car gets a new home and even had a classic one liner to end it all, "lets just say I hit some traffic". 10/10 highly recommend it! Blockbuster of 2021!
Really? The Ranchero came first? The style is interesting for both brands but I never could wrap my head around the Ranchero. It always seemed ugly to me.
@@jimmyhawkins5357 The El Camino outsold the Ranchero, and it wasn’t even close. The market chose a favorite regardless of who came first or lasted longer.
Derek I tell people at work about this show called vise grip garage where this guy Derek goes across the country and does things most people would not do.I love your attitude with dealing with the cars issues that common folks would run from.Derek your the best show on the planet.
Excellent name for the truck. White letters suit its overall theme with the Cragers. Nice job on limping the ol' gal home Derek, have done it a few myself.
Mad respect for hanging with it till the end. I would have lost all my smoke when the clutch linkage dropped out and had to push it across the intersection. Way back when I had a '61 Ford F100 with a 292 that had about 10-psi of oil pressure at highway speeds. Ran straight 60 weight Valvoline in it. It hung in there for about 6-months with a 50 mile daily commute. Lol.
Yeah fully i would've been considering advertising the car and whlst waiting on a buyer pulled the bike off went through fuel system and carbies went n got a battery for it and rode home
Came back to watch it again… Unbelievable what Derek puts him self through and the work he does on the side of the road/parking lots. Just unbelievable. Rock on buddy!!!!
Same here, rerunning this amazing revive & drive home video. 11M views in just over a year, there's no question why Mr B gets the loyal viewership. He's like the most commited masochistic U'TOOBR wrenching tools and vertebrae, then he gets it home at the end of the day. another 5 out five 's for entertainment and compelling story time with visual aids par excellance.
I love how Derek highlighted the infinite interchangeability of a sbc. Back when I was in high school I had an 80 Malibu that I put a 350 in. 80s only ever had a 6 or a 305 soo I told the guy at the parts store a different car every time I went.
With all of that negativity with the breakdown, the way you can still be on your comic best, is fantastic! I’m 68, and I would be using words that women and children should never hear! You sit, are a personal hero to me!
Derek, Please tell your wife, thank you. Thank you for sharing him with us, please dont think we are ungrateful or dont appreciate the sacrifices you or family endures to be able to bring us this content. The world needs more men and women like the two of you.
“I did the math, and if we keep up this pace, we’ll be home by Christmas” Spat out my cold snack to that one!! Awesome video Derek. Loved the carburetor education piece
I used this genius of a great mechanic to get a tractor I bought that hasn't ran for 10 years up and moving again. Massey Ferguson 165 with a gas Perkins engine. Had the tractor running in 45 minutes following the Derek steps of getting an old engine running. Thank you for keeping the shade tree mechanic alive.
Been a mechanic for 30 years and I love how calm you are. Stuff is hitting the fan and you manage to maintain a level head. I have had to dig wrenches out of the drywall in my home garage from frustration stuff is not going well!
After I got divorced and left my wife and family, the mechanic across the street asked my wife if I was an alcoholic, as he had heard me yelling, swearing, and throwing wrenches many times. Not sure what she told him, but that's just the way I work. On the job I threw a combo wrench one day and found it 6 months later. Once put a chair into drywall, into a new car salesman/s office, from the shop, while he had a customer in there. The general manager of that store had a talk with me later and taught me how to repair drywall.
Don't let a chunk of iron get the best of you. There's no point in tearing shit up because it's still gonna be broke and you're going to have even more stuff to fix.
Im more of white letter kind of guy. Really glad to see a feller rescue these old rigs and bring em right back around. Really inspires me to do the same
Can I just say asides from how good this guy is on fixing cars in the middle of nowhere how he manages to film it all so well on his own, this one of my favourites for sure.
I used to think that too. If you watch him test the clutch at just shy of the 1 hour mark you'll realize that the camera moves slightly and zooms in on the drinkin' side's rear wheel while he's still trying to find a way to comfortably press the clutch. Someone else had to do that.
I think one of my favoritest parts of these revival vids is when ya'll take us along down the highway for a ride- music playin, checkin out the scenery as the road goes by~
@@ViceGripGarage It does :) We remember the dayz when a feller hadda 'call-out' for "SHOTGUN!" when the three of us late teens squeezed in my buddy's '64. 327 4spd, 456 rear gear El Camino that ran 12's at PIR. That was in the late 60's and to this day I can still remember the feeling of the G's that little truck could deliver as it pulled the left front perhaps an inch, hunkered down on those 7" cheater slicks and HAULED A$$ in those 'light to light' street racing we participated in downtown Portland, Oregon at the 6th and Broadway Friday and Saturday nite races. 'IF" we found someone who wanted more we'd drive all the way to 82nd or 122nd and scramble the long run between the lights until we saw or heard Portland's finest give chase. We knew the streets just as well as they did and always, always got away - we called it 'ditching the cops'. Looking back we were so lucky to not roll that little truck on a corner.. There were always the three of us in the truck, no seat belts, likely one or more of us would not have survived,, but we did :)

his determination to get these cars home is amazing even with half an engine or 10% brakes, he still manages to make it home, will it run and drive are my favorites
That was epic! A feller could get tired just watching a guy nurse that old car home. These classics must be preserved... they represent a simpler, better time when mechanical systems ruled instead of digicals. Thanks Derek!

Hands down Vice Grip Garage is my favorite channel of all. Thanks for all the work you put into this great channel. Thanks to your family for supporting you in what is obviously a time consuming venture.
I gotta tell you son, that was maybe one of the best videos you’ve done. I thought that buggy got the better of you but you pulled a couple rabbits out of your hat in the 11th hour. You’re a great teacher Derrick. You could open a mechanics school and turn some great coin. Now, white walls vs black walls vs raised lettering. A guy can do a 3-1 mix where you have 3 wheels lettered and one with no lettering. That will cause some verbal blowback. But, the better combination is a 2-2 mix. You put one raised lettering on the front drinker’s side and the other raised lettering on the designated driver’s rear. It’s worse than wrong socks and will send the casual observer into a tizzy.
glad you never had it like I did. You would have LOST it with my old 64 that had 4 different tires, including one (Count em, ONE) co-op Mud grip raised while wheel while the others were highway, snow and bald. That thing wouldn't roll on a streight with hotwheels track sides but it lasted my youth at the mandatory 250.00 going rate

Neither are cars or trucks. They're Ute's, from Australia (which is where the original Ranchero is from).
Ranchero was before El Camino, Mustang before Camaro and the list goes on.
Yep, I was going to correct a guy. Came here to do that very thing, saw that you beat me to it.

Sorry for your losses.
Ouch. Sorry to hear that brother. 69 Camaro too! 😬

Hello sir. I'm a Filipino guy from the Philippines. I always watch your vlogs and enjoy your great sense of humor. You are very good on what you do with different types of old school cars. But what I like the most about you is when you mixs funny words on explaining on how to make it run again and funny on how you use hand gestures in your show..
Absolutely beautiful character development.
This car was on life support yet you managed to get it home when most would have simply called a tow truck. Very inspirational so thank you.

The El Camino was actually Chev's answer to the Ford Ranchero, which made it's debut in 1957.
Really? The Ranchero came first?
The style is interesting for both brands but I never could wrap my head around the Ranchero. It always seemed ugly to me.
@@randallsmerna384 The allure was a sheet of plywood would lay down flat in the bed between the fender wells. Chevy never had that.

You have to call it "Push-Rod" considering you replaced two, and it's got that fancy hot-rod paint and you did end up pushing it!

Lol.
thanks for watching, appreciate it
Low oil pressure? Yeah, that sounds like a Y-block 🤣
Yeah fully i would've been considering advertising the car and whlst waiting on a buyer pulled the bike off went through fuel system and carbies went n got a battery for it and rode home

A tear down video on this engine, showing its condition on the inside (bearing, journal, bore, and piston measurements, etc.) would be interesting.

Been a mechanic for 30 years and I love how calm you are. Stuff is hitting the fan and you manage to maintain a level head. I have had to dig wrenches out of the drywall in my home garage from frustration stuff is not going well!
Your comment really resonates with me :D
That is half if not 3/4 the issue w mechanics
After I got divorced and left my wife and family, the mechanic across the street asked my wife if I was an alcoholic, as he had heard me yelling, swearing, and throwing wrenches many times. Not sure what she told him, but that's just the way I work. On the job I threw a combo wrench one day and found it 6 months later. Once put a chair into drywall, into a new car salesman/s office, from the shop, while he had a customer in there. The general manager of that store had a talk with me later and taught me how to repair drywall.
borrow a trailer calm yourself haul it home
Don't let a chunk of iron get the best of you. There's no point in tearing shit up because it's still gonna be broke and you're going to have even more stuff to fix.

Can I just say asides from how good this guy is on fixing cars in the middle of nowhere how he manages to film it all so well on his own, this one of my favourites for sure.
nice cars... 2 miles per tank...
I used to think that too. If you watch him test the clutch at just shy of the 1 hour mark you'll realize that the camera moves slightly and zooms in on the drinkin' side's rear wheel while he's still trying to find a way to comfortably press the clutch. Someone else had to do that.
