      I am needing to replace the head gasket and am wondering if unbolting the exhaust manifold but not removing it gives you enough room to get the job done?

    • @stroomperformance
      @stroomperformance  11 месяцев назад

      @corypeterson602 it should give you enough if I remember right. It had room to move around after being unbolted. There is just not enough room to come out of the top with it. So I'd say it would be fine pulling the head and just unbolting the exhaust manifold.

    Had a P0421 on a AWD 2014 CX5. Tried the ECM Update due to the Mazda TSB. Update did not work. Ended up replacing this converter. Great Video. However, the service manual is quite wrong. Start by unbolting the engine motor mount. Let the engine rest all the way down. Then remove the Wiper Blades and the rest of the Cowl. This will give you plenty of working space from the top side of the engine and ultimately the Converter will come right up and out through the top.
    I just did this job without pulling the driveshaft or loosening any sub-frame bolts.

    Thanks for the video. I only wish I'd watched it before I started (and taken it to the dealership, haha), but it saved me some time figuring out I'd have to drop the subframe. Also the ratchet strap tip was very helpful!

    I’m just undertaking trying the remove a damaged turbo on my 2.2 diesel what a nightmare, I might as well rebuild the car so much has to be removed. I’m hoping I can some how remove the turbo from the top after trying to move the DPF out of the way a little it. I hate this car it’s been a thorn in my side since I got it.

    Great, real video! What other things did you try first? The O2 sensors? Do you think the P0421 was a failed catalytic?

    • @stroomperformance
      @stroomperformance  2 года назад +1

      Tried changing the spark plugs, and cleaning the maf. The O2 tested fine. So bit the bullet and changed it out. After replacing the manifold with the catalytic converter the code never came back.

      @MrMattDat 2 года назад +1

      @@stroomperformance Yeah, my 2013 CX-5 Grand Touring just threw that code yesterday. If I may ask, why did you changeout the whole manifold instead of just the catalytic?

    • @stroomperformance
      @stroomperformance  2 года назад +1

      @@MrMattDat the manifold and the cat are one. So replacing that manifold replaces the cat. Which makes the unit massive.

      Perhaps people may be interested to hear that it was Mazda who, according to my research, invented the nano-catalyst, in 2009, and first used it on the Mazda 3, (or 'Axela', in Japan), which is on the CX5 as well as the Three-Way, Warm Up converter.
      I hope you'll find my tremendous admiration for mechanics' confidence, and ability to concentrate from someone like me who knows nothing of mechanics encouraging. To work alone, and to have all that responsibility, as well as your own lives needs is very admirable. You are all terribly unappreciated. What a terrible shame the charlatan mechanics ruin the reputation your dedication and education deserves.
      Thanks.

      The exhaust manifold it's self is around $700-725 with the gaskets you need. If you pay someone labor is going to vary.

      @@stroomperformance Just to provide an update in case it helps anyone else too. My flex pipe, hanger right before bank 2 sensor, and 2 more places also had leaks, ended up replacing flex pipe and piping up to muffler, keeping original cat, sensor and resonator at a muffler shop. The code hasn't come back since. I am assuming the leaks before 2nd O2 sensor trips the false warm up P0421 reading. Mazda exhaust piping is pretty cheap! But she purrs like a kitten again!
