I noticed this video received quite a negative reception (seen by the comments below). I think most people misunderstood his point- he wasn't saying that only those who cross their Ts high can be leaders, but rather he is saying to look within your handwriting to notice positive attributes within you that can 1) help you understand yourself better and 2) lead successfully by exploiting those positive qualities. This is unlike horoscopes, however, since it is true that distinct personalities write in different ways. Someone who is quite shy and soft-spoken will usually write in a much less intense and dark (ink wise) manner than a more dominant, confident individual. People reflect their personalities via virtually all they do- whether it is writing, speaking, or even simply lying still. It is not pseudoscience or gibberish, but rather part of an entire field of its own- Psychology...

People tend to have a handwriting that is similar to someone around them. People also unconsciously copy other people's handwriting. How you represent symbols on paper has absolutely nothing to do with your personality. People who are physically stronger tend to write with thicker markings than people who are not as strong. But physical strength and personality atr two different things

@@Soulja998 the quote or Alan Watts? Watts was a preacher who studied Zen Buddhism and then left the ministry and promoted the lessons he learned in a way that was easier to understand from a western point of view. The quote itself, as often happens with Zen teachings, is as simple and literal as you choose to make it. Everything you do, and the way in which you do it, reveals something of your character and of your intentions. I commented the quote because it would follow that handwriting reveals just as much as your choice of words

Yeah, especially the random sample at the end. He made up some things based on random letters. Asked the guy to stand up, asked his job, said non-specific things that all people would like said about them and without a response asked him to sit down. 16:00 looks to me like a guy who doesn't think he's pulled it off yet and is waiting for the soothing applause. Not to mention his mother went around randomly "analyzing" writing to give people hope. "Lifelong student of handwriting analysis" doesn't equate to someone qualified to do this job.

Many of the comments seem to dismiss what he is saying as non-scientific, but years ago I read a few books on handwriting analysis that provided a detailed description of the theory illustrated through hundreds of examples. Handwriting analysis is essentially a recognition that personality characteristics exhibit themselves through our writing style just as they do through how we walk, talk, gesture, etc. Analyze enough handwriting samples and common patterns emerge that appear to have a strong correlation with personality traits. While it is compelling to think that a person's signature alone can accurately illustrate these traits, signatures are often stylized and practiced to have a certain 'look', so a larger sample of a person's handwriting is typically required for any sort of accurate analysis. At it's root, handwriting analysis is pattern matching. I wouldn't doubt that computer algorithms already exist in this area. I suppose the only problem is that very few people actually write these days, but I would bet that analysis of how we hit the keys as we type would reveal more about us than we'd like to think.

Actually, theories and hypotheses are two different things. Anyway, I get your point, correlation does not necessary implies law, but it does imply an underlying mechanic. Of course a high T or a simple O do not necessary means much, but a style of writing surely implies what the writer enjoys their writing looks like - and utterly their personality.

They are all papers published in respected peer-reviewed journals such as Perceptual and Motor Skills, Neuropsychologia etc. Any researcher should have access to them through ResearchGate etc. The quackwatch article by Beyerstein is what I would call heavily biased. Criticisms of his "review" of graphology has been written by psychologists and handwriting psychologists such as Dr. Teut Wallner. I would like to refer you to 'The Beyerstein Book: A Critical Examination' by forensic handwriting expert Marcel Matley. However, since *these claims have failed every scientific test,* scientists consider graphology pseudoscientific and ineffective.[1][2] At best these correlations are informed guesses with many exceptions. They're fun to find, but don't use them to judge job applicants or alter friendships.

I doubt signatures are a good representation for a person's regular handwriting. Signatures are the only place I write in cursive, so I'm out of the picture. Even if someone regularly writes in cursive, it becomes very hasty while writing signatures, especially with check and legal papers. Not to mention there are plenty of people who develop a unique style for their signatures, but stay more practical everywhere else.

Graphology as analysing handwriting to see personality traits is not scientific at all! Handwriting analysis on the basis of comparing general trends and authenticity in penmanship is a different thing based on the comparison between examples from the same person's handwriting and is the only scientific analysis of handwriting per se, not including physics and chemistry. All of this talk is pseudo-scientific bs.

Grasping at little pieces of clues to finding another persons personality, it may not be true or accurate, but it does give you confidence after hearing this. He said IF you have this in your signature or that then your a leader, smart or cautious. Doesn't matter if it's really true or not, what matter is that fact that you can motivated, maybe even a little happy, that you have those personality.
You might be thinking that fake hope is bad and just pointless... But it can lead you to somewhere that you may not have even to do if you didn't have that 'fake' hope.
    Thanks for reading.

Brett Manous yeah I like the girl who got the job when she wore her traditional dress, that did not have anything to do with the remaining true to herself that had more to do with her marketing this, Miss exotic Indian girl card, I know a lot of women from other cultures really play up the exotic car when they go to get jobs, and on top of that people are impressed by them because they think it's cool that there's this poor lady from the slums of India or whatever they imagine and she's here trying to be an awesome powerful modern independent woman, so when you combine that together it's just a way to charm people, Think about it, I like dressing comfortable in pajamas, I'm not getting a job as a white girl if I show up to work in my pajamas LOL I driving through to myself, but no can-do

I learnt from an early age to print, it wasn't till my parents moved us interstate from New South Wales to Queensland Australia that I was made to write in cursive. But I had learnt from the start in grade one about writing on a 45 degree angle our teacher said it was a sign of creativity and intelligence and success. That was when I was 6 years old. I latter met a fellow when I was in my twenties he was studying to become a hand writing expert. HE analysed my hand writing but left before he told me anything. That was almost forty years ago, and I have wondered ever since if knowing what his analysis was would it have made a difference to my life.

My signature changes as I grow mentally, I can not deny hand writing does not define personality, I know wherever my heart is in which place, my signature change.
That could also indicate creativity as you regonise yourself changes so is the next thing that people have an impression of you without seeing you first is your signature.
Leaders are often creative people, deep thinkers and most likely are intuitive.
I also agreed with him on the T, I don't know about the other example such as the O and W, although I have it in my signature, I just never felt anything strongly about it, but I know my T means exactly what he saids in this clip. I'm a big dreamer and quite confident in myself to achieve in anything I set myself to. When I did my signature or sometime in my writing, my T has always have a big long line across, and whenever I did that, I felt like I had a strong personality. Which is very true to that too.
So I don't doubt this man, he also speaks with so much integrity, not everything are scientific but rather intuitive, you can't deny intuition, we all has it but some people just don't listen to themselves.
What a great talk, I loved it!

Graphology takes course over several natural handwriting samples due to external influences such as emotions, illness, writing utensil, stationary, etc. And to be analyzing a hasty signatures of all things kills me. I still remember a fellow who struck a horizontal line for his signature. There's very little that can be accurately extracted from them.

Alexandra Giesbrecht You are drawing a connection between the use of handwriting analysis for the pursuit of a criminal investigation and the viability of the same science to explain unsupported conclusions to make people think they're special. Police and detectives utilize the practice of handwriting analysis to put a face and a name to an anonymous writer. Not to figure out a suspect's personality traits. That is the job of a professional psychoanalyst. Thus, trying to make the point that graphology is in any way a valid 'science' is futile. You need to fully understand the arguments you make before you put them into use.

Actually, your handwriting does show parts of yourself. There are studies that have been made. One of which was amongst criminals, where they analyzed their handwriting and found very similar features in parallel to their psychological factors. I had a teacher who's husband liked to analyze handwriting and over time he collected assignments from students with different handwritings. His bad students had handwriting with characteristics that indicate different psychological factors that made sense to the person the student was. The same applied to regular, or good students. I think its interesting and more then what people think.

That Gandi story is apocryphal. It's actually an ancient Sufi tale that can be found in books written long before Gandi was born!

I wear my house slippers on the wrong feet a ton. I just slip them on without looking and whatever slipper lands on whatever foot is cool with me.
I also write like a doctor (scribbles) because my mind goes so fast that my hand can’t keep up. My Ts are like that.
But I am a born leader. I’ve led the pack since childhood. I didn’t need all this to confirm it; it just is ❤️

I used to be a leader, however, I don't think I used to used that High t bar. but you shown that lower bar and that is smilar to what I have in what I u tols us to write down. I have seen a few video regarding graphology and one of them gave an advice. but in writing the phase I did not follow that but used my normal handwriting to see what you are about to say (well, or for me to know).

The notion of handwriting analysis is fascinating, but what's the evidence for the claim that certain handwriting characteristics correspond to particular traits? This presentation doesn't offer any explanation for this purported correspondence. Saying 'this letter means that' without showing how that can be empirically verified isn't convincing, and can't be accepted at face value.

Martin, first of all thank you for taking the time to watch the whole talk and for providing these well-written and thoughtful comments. The short answer to part of your question is: Handwriting analysis changes neuro-pathways over a period of 21 days because of the synaptic pathways forming and disconnecting inside the brain It really is brain writing. I will post more on your question shortly as it's a valid and fair critique. Jamie

Jamie Mason Cohen Hi! Great to hear that you are fascinated by handwriting analysis. In response to questions regarding the validity of handwriting analysis, I would like to add to what you had written: Handwriting is expressive behavior which "reflects many, if not all the inner consistencies of personality" (Gordon Allport and Philip Vernon, Studies in Expressive Movement, 1933). There are several studies in peer-reviewed journals. You can find a link to a list of studies on the site of the American Handwriting Analysis Foundation ( www.ahafhandwriting.org/research ).
However, I must say that the "handwriting analysis" which correlates isolated graphic variables with personality traits is a highly over-simplified system called "trait-stroke", which is widely practiced and taught in America. Proper scientific graphology, which is practiced and taught in European countries such as France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy etc., involves analysis of the writing movement, form, space and stroke. Every "sign" is considered in relation to each other and to the whole of the writing.

Thanks for the excellent, intelligent feedback, Mathew Thomas K.
If handwriting analysis is focused on isolated traits -- then yes, it can be oversimplified out of context. However, a certified handwriting expert will be able to stack the traits providing a highly accurate, complex personality analysis based on the average characteristics shown in the sample of writing.

This is just like cold-reading type junk.
He didn't say anything that guy would likely contradict about his personality/character.
This was very unscientific. No claims to actual controlled studies of people's handwriting, etc.

I feel like writing, your handwriting is a developed skill and is just a reflection on the things you write for or want to do. Do you want to write calligraphy? do you want to put everything in neat little boxes? Do you rush and not care if anyone reads your writing? Are you writing for the sake of passing time or seem busy in class?
Try writing with your non-dominant hand and compare that handwriting to when you first started writing. The handwriting would probably nearly identical. Your handwriting changes over time and is based on what you do or how you "train" your hand. Muscle memory.
idk, this is just my personal experience and opinions
    edit:
I honestly can't read most of the handwriting shown in the video, I'd have to assume it's because all those creative people were able to think of their own form of an O or M or V's that is recognizable to them and they find more joy writing their name like that and with those loops. Also, what Jamie said at the end...just write. Your handwriting becomes better with practice, it becomes better if you purposely work on it. I know a friend who has illegible handwriting when she doesn't like a class or find the information unimportant, but when she is happy or likes a class her handwriting looks like printed letters.
