As a One Piece fan I’m happy to see new people give it a shot. I know it’s pretty goofy at first and it’s not for everyone. I think the live action does a good job of capturing the spirit of the original story.
Definitely don't let the art style of the manga/anime stop you from experiencing this incredible world. I understand liking more serious anime (maybe because you ONLY experienced those) but don't dismiss something just because it's not edgy (i was like that too). That's what I love about One Piece, it teaches you to find the JOY in everything. Yes, the characters, designs and world are goofy, but so what? This world is the most creative ever put to page/screen. The core of the series is fun adventure. Luffy being so positive' fun, naive, child like makes us excited (as he is) for what's next. The series wouldn't be so popular if we had an edgelord protag who doesn't care about anything or can't be happy. But don't worry, there are plenty of badass and serious/emotional moments in this series and they hit even harder because we switch from goofy to serious. Don't worry it's not 1000 chapters because it's stretched (pun intended), its legit one of the richest worlds created with a lot of mysteries to solve. Also, it rewards immersing yourself in it, enjoying and paying attention. Things mentioned in chapter 1 can be very important in chapter 500. The fans say that "Oda (the author) never forgets" for this reason. If it helps you getting in to it I can say that there could be a legitimate in-universe reason for why it's so goofy and the author had planned it from the start. You'll have to discover why ;) Glad you enjoy the LA, looking forward to the rest!
There are also some hardcore themes even in the LA (like Nami's backstory and her visceral reaction was brutal). One Piece doesn't shy away from subject matter like politics or genocide. The style grew on me as well, especially the new episodes where they hired that one dude who used to animate for Warner Bros (like Loony Tunes) and it shows recently. In a good way.

The manga was published in 1997, anime at 1999, until now, the anime and manga dominates the world, and having wonderful reviews says it all, it broke the curse of live action anime... In the world of Eiichiro Oda of One Piece, expect the unexpected, its goofy, yes, but it has a heart, it has action, adventure, drama, etc...but when it comes to sad and dramatic scenes in manga and anime, it delivers...
Out of all the reactors I've seen I think you guys found the show the most weird lol, which is fine! Gonna be extra interesting to see how you feel by the end 😄😄
I mean to be fair One Piece is definitely weird. The whole concept is weird and crazy. It’s about a happy, boy made out of rubber wanting to be a pirate to find treasure that fights people with other people with crazy powers, that on paper shouldn’t make sense but it just works lol.
27:39 that first move with the 3 swords is masterful storytelling. When he puts the sword in his mouth I see one of two reactions. One piece fans: "Yes here we go, this is going to be good!" People new to one piece: "That seems kind of silly/weird/ridiculous" Then the attack hits and sends Morgan flying. It silences any doubt of his ability to wield three swords like that.
You cover alot of shows n movies I like you're slowly becoming one of my favorite reaction channels. Plus your kids are a fun addition to seeing different opinions from a younger audience
Devil Fruits give one power. Luffy's was the Gum Gum so when he does the punch he yells "Gum Gum Pistol". There is a give and take when eating a devil fruit. That is explained later and will not spoil. This season series will give you all the feels. Oda the creator of One Piece kept final rights so him and his team have condensed east blue or 100 episodes roughly in a series brilliantly. Can not wait to see your reactions to the rest of series especially well .... can't wait.
i loved this. can't wait to see more. also it would be really cool to see how it is to go from live action to anime instead of the other way around. i love all of your reactions. i love one piece
Oda likes to draw weird things. He excels at creating compelling and badass characters, particularly for strong and main characters, but he also enjoys drawing goofy characters from time to time. (Alvida and Helmeppo is so goofy in the anime) Oda has created a world filled with strange and imaginative locations, creatures, and phenomena. Once in SBS (QnA) session, Oda was asked why he gave Luffy such a peculiar power. Oda responded that he intentionally chose the most ridiculous power for Luffy so thathe could have fun and play around with it.
I'm 70 and got introduced to anime through Bleach. I really love the darker anime. I, also, could not get into One Piece as I do not like that type of drawing. It's weird, I know. But I defiantly love this live-action One Piece and can't wait for Season 2!
26 here and same, i've been trying to get into one piece since i was in high school bc it's one of the most famous anime, but i don't like the art style. the live action gave me a a way to enjoy the story. perfect medium for me.
One Piece is sort of an epic comedy! You’re completely allowed to make fun an laugh at Oda’s ridiculous designs and story choices. It’s weird and absurd but it’s so much fun
Nothing wrong with not liking one piece. One piece is the peak of Escapist literature and Romanticism. So someone who is not into those will not go well with one piece.
One Piece really enjoy the anime and I like this live action OP as well, which is surprising because most anime live action shows I really don't like but this really got the core of why the anime/manga are enjoyable
Enjoy the journey, there's a reason it's one of the most highly regarded adventures written. Just dive in and set sail! It's goofy and weird, but it drags you in you with the story and characters😁 Bringing up JRPG's in the discussion is a big thing. Oda (creator) is very inspired by 80's/90's JRPG's and integrates a TON of real world things into his storytelling. This started being put together when FF4-FF7 and Dragon Quest/Warrior games were coming out but a lot of it is inspired by Dragonball and earlier japanese irl lore and anime, as well as western lore. Oda started writing this when he was only 17 and he is 48 now.
No anime can beat the world building in one piece each arc gets better that’s why it is still going and fans are not bored of this story. Here are some things I will say that are not explained or not explained directly in the show: 1- The world is different than the world we live in. 2- The currency used is Berry. 3- If anyone has a devil fruit they will mention it at least in the same episode if not that means that person has super human strength or trained so hard. 4- For this point if you haven’t seen episode 2 skip it, Devil fruit make you lose your power in the sea water that’s why Luffy can’t swim. 5- Until now the source of the devil fruits are unknown but each devil fruit has its unique shape or texture. 6- It’s based on anime so there are different species or kind of people you will encounter one of them in this season it’s kind of weird but as I said it’s based in a different world. 7- Snail phones are snail that has telepathy so human used it in their favor to communicate. 8- Grand line is a strip of ocean circulate the globe and has different islands and it is where is the one piece but there is one entrance to this place. I think that’s it I hope you enjoy the show it’s goofy but entertaining.
I think one of the most beautiful things about Luffy’s optimism, is that yes it comes from a degree of naivety, but also Luffy knows that the world is messed up and twisted and people lie and too bad things and he’s actively choosing not to be that way. Every moment someone tells him how the world is “supposed to be” he says no I am going to be kind and it is possible to achieve your dreams.
one piece is interesting because Luffy isnt a 'hero' in a typical sense and pirates are largely bad people in that world while the marines are normally the good guys. But because we are seeing the world through the adventure of this fun loving pirate boy we more often end up defending people from the 'bad apples' of the marines and seeing the deep corruption that rules it
Thank you! I really enjoyed this reaction! Love that you take notes 😂 One piece is more than just a show. Its more like a religion. The biggest thing i learned about one piece is not to be pissed if someone behaves weird or even mad. You never know the backstory about the people. Love it! Really excited for the next one 😊
As a curious fact, Gol Roger existed but his real name is Oliverleviasser and the real life one piece still exists. They still look for it today and I clarify in real life in a few words the story of Gol Roger is real.
There is nothing wrong about it, it is literaly a fantasy world, the pirate world so it is science fiction where super powers exist and devil fruits exist, One piece is all my teenage years be it reading the Manga after school at the bibliothèque near my house or watching the anime, One piece Manga came out in 1997 and it is since a long time part of the big 3 which were bleach, one piece and naruto till this day. I'm not even an animé fan but i watched some when i was a teenager, I loved one piece and bleach but never watched dragon ball z or naruto it just doesn't apeak to me, the adventurous side of one piece was more appealing for daydreamers and people with big imagination that liked creativity and goufiness and it's what I liked about one piece the anime is that it never gets too serious to the point it gets boring, never boring and it's world building is amazing. It is a wonderful journey of adventure and discovery of new seas and realms and new worlds pretty much, I can tell i was afraid when i heard they were doing a live Action of one piece because death note live action by Netflix was horrible and most live actions of anime were disappointing from what I heard so far. But I was still excited to see this one and to my surprise and many fans and even people who never watched the anime it was pretty good adaptation of the anime while changing some things like the timeline and how some characters meet in the live action they even cut some of the very few fillers one piece anime has to make it easier to watch in the live actio, the actor playing Luffy is the real Luffy in real life, Oda sensei the author of one piece himself said that and was involved in every process that's why this 'I've action is the exception because the author was asked to give concent for every choice the live action writer and the Netflix producer team made they always consulted his opinion, Oda draw one piece when he was 17 years old it is pretty much his baby so he was dedicated.
From what I understand, the manga is coming into its final stages (of the main story, at least). Oda, the creator, explained a few years back that the story was around 80% done, and to not spoil anything, let's just say that it definitely feel like we're at the final stretch atp in the manga (the anime is also almost near where the manga is--so I expect a filler arc will be coming up soon bc one of the main arcs is finishing up), and that we're very close to where the One Piece is supposed to be. I'm glad to actually be able to get a finish, ngl. While I enjoy the series, I wouldn't want it to be smt like Marvel/DC, where the characters and their story just continue infinitely as long as writers keep writing them. Esp so with this series that has a clear goal to reach from the beginning. Glad to see you guys are enjoying the live action. While the live action can seem nonsensical, it does work in accordance to its world's logic, which I think helps to immerse viewers into the story. The zanier aspects are also toned down to be more palatable for non-anime viewers too, but it never loses the spirit of the original series, which is probably why a lot of fans also like it. Looking forward to your next reaction!
Yo Dad, we probably grew up on the same things and I must say I love DBZ with all my heart, it's the OG. But this thing is something else when it comes to power scaling which im sure you love about dbz, but also its very heartwarming as well, and teaches a lot about reaching your dreams which is perfect for your fam. Hope you guys enjoy the ride. Ps nice you got ep 2 on your patreon
Shane seemed to be bothered by Luffy’s abilities, so here are other characters with rubber or stretchy skills that he may have encountered: Reed Richard of the Fantastic Four Elastic Girl from The Incredibles Stretch Armstrong (toy, lol)
in regards to the marines I'd say they're more a mix of amilitary force AND a police force, they're used to arrest pirates and maintain law and order as well as being used for big military shit.
Offtopic...having grown up as an American in Japan, the easiest way to tell the difference visually between Japanese, Korean and Chinese is Japanese looks like a simplified version of Chinese (less dashes etc) and Korean typically has a lot of curves and circles.
Animation for OP is def not the best compared to other/newer animus. But definitely not something that should get in the way of watching it. But yes like Shane said. Gotta give it more than 1 ep. And after they finish the Live Action, I'm sure their thoughts on OP as a whole will differ. Amazing live action series. Amazing Anime. Amazing manga.
The past few recent episodes had some top tier animation. Fight scenes are pretty good. The same animator who does the fight scenes for One Piece was contracted out to MAPPA and did fight scenes in Attack on Titan.
I loved the Manga, love the anime and love this series! The art never bothered me in the anime but I draw myself so I can appreciate the artstyle .I still watch the anime on repeat but to each their own I guess..
Even though it's strange in other people's eyes, in anime everything will feel funny. Yes, it's really difficult to adapt a One Piece anime considering that some of the strange characters in One Piece are hard to follow, to be honest Only a few characters are humans but they eat devil fruit which gives them powers beyond reason
Also lol. Not just against Shane or his kids. But ppl need to get out of that mindset. That oh, this only happens.. or oh it's goofy because.. It's an anime. News flash. They have goofy, weird, and would-be-fake in the real world things in Star Wars. Marvel. Harry Potter. Etc. And no one bats an eye. Or maybe they do, but you don't always have the sarcastic comment with it, that It's because this.. or it's because that.. Edit: lol Shane why are you weirded out? Because he stretches? Did u have that first impression with that dude.. oh idk.. from the fantastic 4? But yah last comment/edit. I'll let it slide since u were a former BW member!

In the world of Eiichiro Oda of One Piece, expect the unexpected, its goofy, yes, but it has a heart, it has action, adventure, drama, etc...but when it comes to sad and dramatic scenes in manga and anime, it delivers...
the kids have that "can't be bothered" vibe
they get better; they ended up loving it when its all said and done
Out of all the reactors I've seen I think you guys found the show the most weird lol, which is fine! Gonna be extra interesting to see how you feel by the end 😄😄
I mean to be fair One Piece is definitely weird. The whole concept is weird and crazy. It’s about a happy, boy made out of rubber wanting to be a pirate to find treasure that fights people with other people with crazy powers, that on paper shouldn’t make sense but it just works lol.
4:15 lmaooooo, her brother was gagged😂😂😂😂
27:39 that first move with the 3 swords is masterful storytelling. When he puts the sword in his mouth I see one of two reactions.
One piece fans: "Yes here we go, this is going to be good!"
People new to one piece: "That seems kind of silly/weird/ridiculous"
Then the attack hits and sends Morgan flying. It silences any doubt of his ability to wield three swords like that.
You cover alot of shows n movies I like you're slowly becoming one of my favorite reaction channels. Plus your kids are a fun addition to seeing different opinions from a younger audience
Hey thank you we really appreciate that. Hopefully we continue to entertain
I hope you guys watch this. It’s a fun ride. I’m not a manga or anime watcher for one piece but I’m a fan of OPLA (One Piece Live Action).
Can not wait to see your reactions to the rest of series especially well .... can't wait.
this season condeses about 50* episodes since loguetown was not included and it seems it will be left for season 2.
@@lordskysixssno I'd say 40
Them: How do you know he's Japanese
Mackenyu in every interview: IM JAPANESE!"
"Korean?" Lol the way he looked at her when she said that
i loved this. can't wait to see more. also it would be really cool to see how it is to go from live action to anime instead of the other way around. i love all of your reactions. i love one piece
The seagulls deliver news to every boat in this world and they telephone each other via telepathic transponder snails called den den mushi
Oda likes to draw weird things. He excels at creating compelling and badass characters, particularly for strong and main characters, but he also enjoys drawing goofy characters from time to time. (Alvida and Helmeppo is so goofy in the anime)
Oda has created a world filled with strange and imaginative locations, creatures, and phenomena.
Once in SBS (QnA) session, Oda was asked why he gave Luffy such a peculiar power. Oda responded that he intentionally chose the most ridiculous power for Luffy so thathe could have fun and play around with it.
I can't wait to see Bon Clay in live action. His character design is top tier bizarre. Same with Chopper.
Bleach is a great anime. It's my second after One Piece
lmao the kids really dont want to be there
One Piece is sort of an epic comedy!
You can say One Piece is like Looney Toon but with more emotional moment.
5:38 dad and son synchronize Mountain Dewing😂
One Piece really enjoy the anime and I like this live action OP as well, which is surprising because most anime live action shows I really don't like but this really got the core of why the anime/manga are enjoyable
There's a reason so many people people love the series so much, number 2 comic book of all time just behind Superman.
Enjoy the journey, there's a reason it's one of the most highly regarded adventures written. Just dive in and set sail! It's goofy and weird, but it drags you in you with the story and characters😁
Bringing up JRPG's in the discussion is a big thing.
The second Zoro shows up the “bored” face of your boy lights up haha😂
No anime can beat the world building in one piece each arc gets better that’s why it is still going and fans are not bored of this story.
Here are some things I will say that are not explained or not explained directly in the show:
1- The world is different than the world we live in.
Hey It's shane from blind wave!!! Great to see you again and to see you reacting with your kids is great
Hey, it’s great to be reacting for sure! Hope you enjoy the new channel 👍🏽
saw this early on Patreon but this is so good i couldn't resist watching it again
You're the best!
But because we are seeing the world through the adventure of this fun loving pirate boy we more often end up defending people from the 'bad apples' of the marines and seeing the deep corruption that rules it
U all three guys just watch this series until the end and I am sure u all gonna love it
Just watch other 7 episodes together like this ❤
i love the note taking lmao, dad writes a lot down, the daughter writes some of it and the son just isnt taking notes. Too real lol
Great Reaction! Ive never seen the anime I guess it just started so long ago so I never really heard about it but I really love the show.

That edgy stage 😂
Mackenyu who plays Zoro is Enishi Yukishiro's role in Rurouni Kenshin Live Action
Shane seemed to be bothered by Luffy’s abilities, so here are other characters with rubber or stretchy skills that he may have encountered:
Reed Richard of the Fantastic Four
Elastic Girl from The Incredibles
Stretch Armstrong (toy, lol)
Imagine DBZ, but with Pirates instead of aliens. The anime is even voiced by the same people.
Welcome to the best story ever told
in regards to the marines I'd say they're more a mix of amilitary force AND a police force, they're used to arrest pirates and maintain law and order as well as being used for big military shit.
"I hated the art, it looked so old" Fuck that made me feel old, I miss the 90s aesthetic of anime.
25:26 The best part is that the actors are doing the fighting themselves. They each know how to fight
Loved ya on Blindwave, and I didn't know you had your own channel until I saw this video and immediately subscribed. Wish you good luck, Shane.
Thank you 🙏🏼
One piece is my favorite anime of all time, if you didn't know my pfp is zoro. Definitely gonna be tuning into this series you guys are amazing
This comment section brought to you by every anime convention anyone has attended.
As a One Piece fan this show is Goated but it is slightly different from the manga/anime. I reccomend checking up both
Homie on the right's opinion is too common, "I saw the first episode, hated the art, it's too long, it's not it" LMAO
Usually I order the 3 piece but this looks good, great reaction!
Your son went from nah didn’t like the 1st episode of anime to 🤩🤩🤩
Oh Holy shit! Shane! I haven't seen you in a minute. Guess I'm sticking around.
Hell yeah! 🤘🏽
Offtopic...having grown up as an American in Japan, the easiest way to tell the difference visually between Japanese, Korean and Chinese is Japanese looks like a simplified version of Chinese (less dashes etc) and Korean typically has a lot of curves and circles.
I was very hesitant about the anime but I actually really like it it can be very wacky at times though
The author of One Piece worked on Rorouni Kenshin as an apprentice
Animation for OP is def not the best compared to other/newer animus. But definitely not something that should get in the way of watching it.
But yes like Shane said. Gotta give it more than 1 ep. And after they finish the Live Action, I'm sure their thoughts on OP as a whole will differ.
Amazing live action series. Amazing Anime. Amazing manga.
The past few recent episodes had some top tier animation. Fight scenes are pretty good. The same animator who does the fight scenes for One Piece was contracted out to MAPPA and did fight scenes in Attack on Titan.
Im not going to lie I have never seen One Piece so I will check it out on Netflix 🤘
Although I don't watch live action adaptations, I watched the first episode at it's good
One piece is the best story ever
bro callin it weird like he never see mr fantastic 🤣
Lol the kids are taking the jokes literally 🤣
You can only enjoy One Piece in its purest form if you buy into the goofiness of it. It's the Walt Disney of anime after all.
I loved the Manga, love the anime and love this series! The art never bothered me in the anime but I draw myself so I can appreciate the artstyle .I still watch the anime on repeat but to each their own I guess..
omg you replicated the blind wave studio down to the dual lighting lol
Even though it's strange in other people's eyes, in anime everything will feel funny. Yes, it's really difficult to adapt a One Piece anime considering that some of the strange characters in One Piece are hard to follow, to be honest Only a few characters are humans but they eat devil fruit which gives them powers beyond reason
Older Luffy is Mexican, younger Luffy is Colombian
oh shit shane! hell yeah! good to see you again :)
hey, good to see long time viewers!
3:05 - Gold Roger: But all I did was download some MP3s of Queen!
'one should never judge an anime by its first ep' ex-arms begs to differ
7:25 No, it was the cork of the bottle in his hand
Wow it is shane from blind wave!
It’s me 👌🏽👌🏽
I know it wasn’t shown but when luffy lightly punched Nami’s shoulder that was improvised😂 24:06
Hey Shane and kids👋🏻. Drink every time Luffy says king of the pirates
I've been watching One Piece for more than 20 years...
And those who watched it, had an awesome childhood... 😊✌
So sad you arent part of Blindwave anymore, but hey youre here now!
Those were great times for sure, but I hope you like the new crew plus my children who jump in pretty frequently 🔥
How is it weird. Mr. Fantastic is like that. In the fantastic 4.
Is this the first the you watch anime or a live action anime?
Seen a couple of other things before
