My Mom use to make Boston cream cake. She would split the cake in half and add the pastry cream. Your version is so much easier. Poking holes, and adding the pastry cream, you get the same results. I haven’t had this cake in years. Definitely going to try your recipe. 👍

If I used "Vanilla" whey protein powder (which I have on hand) instead of "plain" (which I DON'T have on hand!), how would y'all recommend I adjust the sweetener-to-protein powder ratio to avoid over sweetening? I just realized I could also make a "chocolate" cake version of this with the chocolate protein powder, which would really make the pastry cream stand out! Same sweetener ratio question applies though! TIA!

Allulose is no longer sold in Canada. I have tried to purchase It from Amazon US, but after all shipping and tax, I would pay $160 for about 2 lbs. About Lily's, the lady who owned Lilies sold her company to Hersheys who then changed the formula to include dextrin as the second ingredient. Hence, it is now non-keto/low carb/diabetic-safe (in the chocolate bars, they have already made the shift, and on the chips, they change it back and forth).
I can't get any allulose in Germany. You can only order it from America at a very high price. How can I replace allulose? Thank you. Greetings from Germany 💚
Did you use the natural one with the skins on? Because their blanched on flour is very fine and is the perfect texture for this recipe. Did you use a different sweetener by chance?

I made this today honestly it is delicious. I was short on almond flour so I added lupin flour in what I was lacking and it turned out fabulous.

I don't recommend it... it's really important to help the cake rise properly. You can use egg white protein powder.

To the keto bakers: What sugar-free chocolate chip brands have no aftertaste?
I found bags of Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips and used them in a keto brownie recipe. I did not find theybhad an aftertaste.
