Your videos has sound tactical and, to the point, technical advice. I been watching your stuffs quite a lot now because I want to create a entertainment media brand and I feel books would be a good start since I'm still struggling with financial issues. I look forward for more!
Paul - thanks a million for your videos. So clear and helpful. I've just started in KDP in the past month. I'm a writer and I created a lined journal, with an original short 'tip' at the bottom of every page. Then I created 30 original covers, all different. And I uploaded all of them to KDP. Here are my questions: 1. Would you call these 'low content' books? (I did, but having watched your video, I'm wondering if I made a mistake. If these were not 'low content' then they would get an ASIN and the 'Look Inside' feature.) 2. Would you say that in this case I have made the mistake of having 'duplicate' books? (The interiors are precisely the same.) 3. If the answer to Q1 is 'No', and if I 'unpublish' the books and then republish them, will KDP have an issue with that (and for example, suspend my account)? Thanks for any help you can offer. I'd really appreciate it. Paula
@@paulmarles Thanks a million for your prompt reply, Paul. And ref Q2: would they be classified as duplicate books? (As KDP has published them I presume that for the moment, they are not classified as duplicates by KDP. But I am finding KDP to be inconsistent, and would appreciate your expert opinion for future reference, because I plan to repeat this kind of model of book: journal plus small amounts of content. So I wonder: would you classify books with precisely the same interior as duplicates?)
Paul, great video, as always. I love your examples using Canva because I’ve been using that quite a bit. I am really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Amazon changes for low content books, which went into effect today. Thanks for all you do!
I bought Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher, each for 50% off earlier today 🙂 I intend on using both Affinity and Canva parallel. Thank you for the content and keep going.
I use Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and illustrator. I found affinity et. al. Harder. - I bought all three hoping to stop paying $50/month to Adobe. They were much harder. Maybe if you don't know the real ones, the fake ones won't seen so yucky. Also know you pay once for a lifetime but when my windows crashed and I bought a MAC, they wanted me to buy them all over again. No discount the second time. Eventually I wonder if they will go to rental like Adobe. Or you pay for updates. They have to do something to keep making money. Good luck. It's probably better than Canva but a learning curve.
@@AmethystWoman I haven't found Affinity to be particularly difficult so far. I don't quite have the budget at this time to purchase Adobe's Creative Cloud's annual based subscription, but I would like to try it out later, even if that would be monthly subscription. However, I've noticed that Affinity's latest update was in March, so it's entirely possible it's changed since you were using it. I have used Windows for a long time and I'm not thinking of buying a Mac. I got my laptop less than a year ago and I'm happy with it. :)
Hi Paul. Apologies if you've already answered this question in the comments. I couldn't find it. I was interested in offering the same cover in 2 different type of standard interiors. Lined and Dot Graph. I'm also thinking about replicating that process for multiple covers with those 2 interior options. Would that fall into duplicate content? It would seem an odd stance to take for KDP to force unique Lined journal interiors since that is such a common interior. If they do would marketing them as a composition notebook make a difference? Thanks in advance
thanks for all your great content! Paul do we have to add a copyright page to all the low content books? you dont talk about it in your videos but i saw someone else adding it to a journal
Paul, I cannot Save or Save Draft my latest book thru the KDP pages. A message says: "The service or feature you're trying to use is currently unavailable. We're working to solve the problem as quickly as possible. Please try again later." I was suspicious as there are online rumors AZ is rethinking low content books, so I thought they put a hold on things this way. Do you have any thoughts or advice? I did just receive an email from them asking for a screenshot, which I'll provide. I have 2 Chrome laptops, both get the msg and both have often been difficult with different formats in the past. I thought is was me, but given the msg, it seems them. I've learned so much from you. I found a niche for myself I hoped would work and now my overly long efforts are futile. Thank you very much for all your straightforward help to us!
@@paulmarles Spoke too soon. I had one Save Draft work, but now back to the above message. I suggested it is a KDP issue, as you suggested. Thanks, Paul.
hello and thanks for the video. I published a full content book on Amazon USA. I want to publish the exact same book on Amazon UK, changing only one chapter name and, being a book with recipes, also changing the units of measurement to calculate the ingredients. Is this considered as duplicate content? Do I need to create a new isbn? How should I behave? Thank you
Inkscape is free. Tutorials on youTube are plenty. Like how to trace photos of animals and cutify them to create unique images. Tutorials on how to go from a trace realistic proportions to for example jibi proportions with tiny button eye, u shape eyes, or big manga eyes. There are also yearly intros to the latest hit lists of free software for illustration and book writing/publishing. Canva is mostly templates and clip arts. Both may trigger the duplicate bot. I'm pretty sure amazon is using a bot first before they have a human
You can still use your own images in Canva. It is a useful tool for putting all the components of a book together, but agree, Inkscape is very powerful.
Hello Paul. Thank you so much for all the information you provide! I discovered you this morning and have a few hours going through your videos and have a clearer picture of how to proceed. You mentioned public domain in the video, but never addressed it. I am compiling vintage short stories, with my adult son's illustrations, and would like to know if it could be flagged for duplicate content. Thank you!
There is always a risk with any public domain works. I think it's becasue Amazon doesn't want thousands of the same book appearing in its listings. Adding illustrations reduces the risk. I would check on Amazon to see if many titles of the book you are planning on publishing are listed.
Better watch out, RUclips might ban you for duplicate RUclips videos lol just kidding mate, thanks for all the KDP tips. With help from you and a few others I've uploaded 3 books without any kdp error flags. Cheers!
Hi Paul, Thanks for your advice. Can I ask how much of a coloring image or picture needs to be changed? For example, I’m working on a toddler coloring book for 1-3 year olds and would like to keep it as close to a single large image as possible. I have gathered various pictures from creative fabrica. Is adding a simple element like a flower or sun enough changing or would that still flag for duplicate content? Thanks!
It's been one week since I published my first 4 low content notebooks. I created more journals, same interior with different covers, and was awaiting them to go live. Sadly my account got suspended today. Wish I came across this video before 😢
@@paulmarles first of all I should be thankful to you for guiding us. From your video only I learnt how to create a KDP notebook. Your teaching was so clear 😢 I can think of only two reasons. 1)I used the same interior for two books with different cover colors so customer can buy their preferred color.2) The other reason I suspect is my title contains the word ' Journal' , so does my subtitle as I mentioned ' 7" x 10" journal......'. I couldn't see any sales in my dashboard but one of my friends had bought a book and had recieved it as well, she had also put a review. But nothing was visible to me. I don't know if there had been anymore sales even, but the kdp email has mentioned that I will not recieved any outstanding royalties 😑
hello, I have a question... if many people are going to use creative factory to get their book illustrations, then there will be kdp books that have the same drawings, How do we know which book will have the same things and which will not?
Is it possible to do a video on how to change the price of your low content books once they are published on Amazon..I feel like the prices I have put on my books are either too high or too low when its based on US Dollar. Also if you want to delete any books from being published is this possible because I can't see the option available on kdp and I have a few I would like to remove. Thanks
They also do kdp quality control - literally had my write previously published as ‘0,000.000,00’ - kep people do not check things 😂 and my book wasn’t previously published as anything that was the funny part,
I have been watching you for a few weeks now - thanks fo so much information! You have been great. I tried to publish two summer reading logs for kids last week and they are still being reviewed. I am a little confused about kdps changes to their low content (like the new ISBN change on May 17th) I said my two summer reading logs weren't low content because of the 100 pages there are 50 unique pages and 50 repetitive. I tried asking Amazon if they were low content and therefore didn't need an ISBN and they said no. But when I went to publish I tried to put them in a series and the series was rejected for having low content. But the books are still in review with no word. This is a long comment to ask if you can do a video on the new changes or if you have any advice on the line between new low content and not.
I’m about to publish a video on that matter. The only guidelines on the type of content that is low content from the point of view of KDP is all that is published on the KDP help page at the moment. As I see it if all pages are identical it is low content and if they are not it is not low content. Time will tell as publishers experience comes in what books are classified as such. Publishing in a series is a different issue. As I see it that is more for non fiction and fiction books.
