Seiko is one of those brands that people love to hate and hate to love. I have a few high end watches but I hate that I love my $150 Seiko more than my IWC. Seiko truly has something for everyone.

I think a lot of those who 'bash' on Seiko, including me, are more frustrated than hate Seiko or enjoy bashing on them. I own three Seikos and have plans to purchase two more. We all long for the days of the great value fabulous SKX as an example. We are frustrated that we can find other watches for much cheaper without Seikos issues often with better specs AND Seiko movements. These can be straight up Seiko homages, other brands including Citizen or sister brand Orient, or micro-brands. We still LOVE Seiko's designs but just wish they would fix the issues (these issues aren't huge or terrible expensive: milled instead of pressed clasp, signed crown, sapphire crystal - even synthetic and better QC) to justify the increasing prices or keep the prices down to a point we could say 'ok it isn't perfect ... but it is great for the price'.
I loved this series. I would like to see more affordable brands like orient, timex, casio, then jump to higher like hamilton and tissot, and then the luxury tier with omega, rolex, AP, and more.

For me it’s Seiko QC issues on even more expensive watches, rising prices for entry models like new Seiko 5 while killing affordable and popular models like SKX007(in Poland SKX costs 300 euro or more and you have to import it from Asia) or SNK809. Don’t get me wrong - they are great company with amazing heritage, cool technology like Magic Lever or Diashock resist and SNK809 was my first automatic but I don’t like that they relegate affordable watches to brands like Orient when they go for middle and High End markets only. @@piotrkwasniewski7774 it made sense to kill of the SKX007, despite it being a cult classic. It was first released in 1996. There's not much reason to keep a 20+ year old model with zero updates in production.

The SZSB016 model is also a solid one and you can get it for less than $250....also the SNZG15JC you can get that one for under $200....all good choices
Would love to see you build a vintage seiko collection because they offered so much diversity from the 60s up to the 80s with their quartz moments. I have a couple of vintage King, Grand and normal seiko watches and they are absolutely brilliant!
I'm currently wearing a Seiko 5 SNK789 that I got from my late father. It's probably the watch I wear the most, and it's definitely a gateway into automatic and mechanical watches.
I have 2 marinemasters and the new Naomi Uemara edition SLA051, but, my favorite Seiko is my Turtle. IMHO, that is THE quintessential Seiko, representing everything good about the brand in one product. It has heritage, function, reliability, quality, it's priced for the everyman, and it has great style. Plus, it comes in a variety of colorways and editions. A guy could start an entire collection of just Turtles. What more could you ask?
True. Longines and Omega have you covered for a diverse collection, unlike a certain crown 👑 brand 😏😏😏 not as much choice as Seiko but not bad at all. Personally I would go Omega for a one brand collection due to the (IMHO) better coaxial movements.
I had the same though, but with Tissot, given price point compatibility between the two. Visodate, Porto, Lisbia, Gentleman, PRX, Héritage Chrono (or Janeiro if you are super lucky), Sovereign, Seastar. Plus a whole world of vintage to delve into. And the T-Touch for the new tech generation. Athough, the Longines 1967 Heritage Chrono Diver stands as a near perfect one piece collection all on its own functionality-wise. 300m WR, column wheel, vertical clutch, 70 hours power reserve, second time zone bezel, timer bezel, tachymeter, and that burgundy adding just enough elegance for a business suit (it wears a lot smaller and thinner than it's specs).
I bought my very first watch this year and could not be happier with my Seiko 5 Sports SRPD63K1. None of the alignment issues, very accurate (+15sec after one week of wearing) and just plain beautiful. Seiko has definitely gained a new returning customer as i am already looking at the Cocktail collection for my second watch.
I only have one Seiko currently but that’s not gonna last long. They have some of the best timepiece design of all time. Better than some watches that cost 10x as much in my opinion
Some hipster Seiko picks: Field watch: SARG007. Kind of a more military-ish Alpinist with a 40mm case. Diver: SBDC003/SBDC033 "blumo" -- I prefer the 003 for the older style dial. This is the original Sumo which I think looks better than the new one. Dress watch: Seiko SARB066 -- The "other" of the original cocktail time series. Hard to find but funky and amazing if you're willing to put up with the gold tone case. Complication/weird: Seiko "Time Sonar" chronograph 7015-6010: Weird and rare 70s chronograph with a translucent dial. Or you could just get a funky 6139, there are tons of weirder versions that fly under the radar compared to the "Pogue" and "Bruce Lee."
I have a mini Seiko collection of my own as a beginner to watches and I love them all! King Turtle "Save the Ocean" SRPF77 (Dark Blue Manta) Seiko 5 SRPC55 (Orange dial) Flightmaster SNA411
I have an All JDM, all Seiko, all 6R15 collection- SARB017 Alpinist, SARB033 Spirit, SARB065 Cocktail Tim, SZSC003 Third Gen Monster. I buy to keep, but interesting to see that clean, all boxes and papers examples have gone up 3X to 4X in price since I bought these new in 2017, 2018. You left out the Monster, but appreciate seeing most of them get some love on the channel!
I fall into the Seiko Purist category. I've been telling people for the last couple of years, Seiko is a high end brand that also makes some affordable watches. Around the $3k price point, they produce amazing watches. When I first picked up an SLA021 Marinemaster I was blown away (and previously wasnt a fan of Seiko). After experiencing other SLA-level models, King Seiko re-edition, and even moving up to the LX and Grand Seiko you really see what Seiko is capable of doing. Not saying their more affordable pieces arent great, but for me personally once I hit that Marinemaster level it all finally clicked.
For anyone about to watch this video, in my opinion, Teddy just set the Standard for educating the public about Seiko watch collections. Well done Teddy!!
Great video as always Teddy! Me personally, I'd be interested in seeing a one-brand collection video on Longines. With the Flagship Heritage, Conquest, and Hydroconquest, I think you get a perfect trio!
Ah this has been a trip down memory lane with those now expensive Seikos, I remember being too young to be able to afford them like 8 years ago, but now at the old prices they would have been THE watches to get. Imho from the SARX series you should have mentioned the SARX015, beautiful watch. To note SNK803 is the one watch from the other colours in the series that has the same colour line going through the date/day wheel as it does on the dial, the placement with the whole dial design is just spectacular considering that the watch costs south of 100$ while some several thousand dollar watches seem to only remember the date placement after the fact when the whole dial design has been made already. Really feels like the movements goes hand in hand with the design.
I’ve got my first seiko and first automatic watch to add to my collection the Seiko watch I got is the Seiko SRPK33K it’s beautiful watch my collection mainly contains quartz watches, or solar watches. It’s great to have an automatic in the mix and I’ve definitely got the Seiko bug I’m getting some more Seiko watches throughout this year. My next seiko watch I’m getting is the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SSC813P Panda dial I absolutely love my watches. I love Seiko watches. I’m going to add plenty of them to my collection
I think Seiko is a very good choice for a one brand watch collection. Seiko offers a good variety of affordable solar and automatic models, as well dresswatches and divers.
Great article. And if you like the modern Seikos, people should dive into the vintage Seikos. Early 1960s Seiko5, Seikomatic (pre Grand Seiko), King Seiko and Grand Seiko are stunning, going through to the Silverwaves and early dive watches like the original 62mas, the 6217-7000 World Time and 45899 Single Pusher; the 1970's models like the 6138 and 6139s; the 1980s speedmaster 7a28 and the evolution of the quartz piece like the first GS quartz and 8T23 Impact/Full Charge. Its an absolute rabbit hole!
Seiko was once my favorite brand…Now I would say that I don’t have a favorite brand. I grew so frustrated with quality control issues on watches the cost upwards and in some cases over $1000 in my collection. I purchased one Seiko this year. I purchased (8)eight micro brand watches. A Hamilton, Tissot, (3) three Citizen’s, (2) Casio G shocks, an Alpina, Glycine, Sinn, and an Omega….Normally I would’ve purchased 4 or 5 Seiko’s…I just can’t justify the price increases while giving you less watch for the money…Thanks for the great video though Teddy!
I just added a 2nd Seiko to my collection: a Presage "Old Clock" cocktail watch (have also seen it listed as a "Blue Manhattan" but don't confuse it with the actual "Manhattan" which has a different color dial. The "Old Clock has what they term a 'navy blue' which really shows off the guilloche pattern of the dial. The light plays off of it in a way that is mesmerizing, even more so than photos can display. I'm amazed at the beauty of the dials that Seiko produces at this price point. The "Sharp Edge" is on my radar, in either green or blue.
I absolutely agree with the point that Seiko has an incredible range that offers interesting watches at almost any price point. My Seiko collection includes a Seiko 5 field watch with the 7S26 movement, a gen 2 Orange Monster, an STO Samurai, a King Turtle and an MM 600 (titanium, spring drive, GMT). Love all of them and they all make their way onto my wrist quite regularly.
The first watch that wasn't a cheap, throwaway digital watch I ever owned was a 2-tone quartz Seiko I was given for a birthday while still in high school and my love for the brand began there. Present day my own collection, with 3 exceptions, is almost exclusively Seiko ranging from a vintage Seiko Lord Matic to Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT. They're genuinely a "something for everyone" manufacturer
Funnily enough my collection is mostly Seiko based. I have the 2 Sarbs, the blu mini alpinist, the sarb017 (probably my fav watch) and the icon itself Skx009. And they are just wonderful 😁
Seiko does a great job of offering styles that match the looks of much more expensive classics, without feeling like an outright homage. They also have many classics in their own right. For me, the Alpinist in olive is a more obtainable option to the Breitling pistachio, which ticks all the same boxes in the looks department.
Yes I do it with Omega. 1934 -1973. I am wearing tonight a 1934 15-jewel Omega. It is so accurate that it would compare to many modern watches. I bought this watch from Poland. If anything Omega made to many different models. Ther are som really unique Omega watches out in circulation
Commenting because I wanted to look up more history on my SNK809 that’s I’m wearing today. Been on Teddy for almost my entire watch history. Now we have moved on into several Rolex’s, Oris, and a Cartier. I appreciate all the quality info Teddy!
Teddy.. extremely good overview... I would love to see your take on the Astron GPS family and the solar power options aswell. 5x and 3x movements in particular. Hope to see that video soon.
Great vid! My grandfather and my father both wore “Pogue” 6139 when I was a little tyke. It was the first watch I ever noticed, and the one that got me interested in watches. I added one to my collection a few years ago, and have recently passed on the watch bug to my youngest son. He has purchased a few Seiko 5 variants so far.
You keep knocking these videos out of the park! 👍🏽 Can’t argue with any of the choices. I own quite a few including the SACM. It’s small but wears like a 36mm due to having very little bezel. The 8J41 movement was used in Grand Seiko and Credor before being replaced by 7r and 9r movements. It’s thermocompensated and carries 7 jewels in a full metal construction. My dedicated dress watch. Definitely worth a punt.
Loved it. Great rundown. Bought my first Seiko in 1980, of course a jubilee date just quartz. And it still runs. Have really fallen in love with the divers and Save the Ocean series. Now collecting one of each Ocean series, each being a different style. ie Antarctic Minituna, PVD Dark Ocean Samurai, Manta Ray Turtle….etc. next will probably be a Solar Big Tuna. Yet another way to collect this brand.
Cocktail time, Kakume, Blue Lagoon Turtle, Jade Samurai on a Mr. Seiko beads of rice, golden Pogue, 017 Alpinist. All about the fun functionality and history with Seiko. I love the SARB 033 etc., but don't really see them as a realistic first "office watch"/sport watch combo despite their looks and versatility. Great concept and feature for a video series!!!
Great video. I have three Seikos. Something about them I just like. Seiko kinetic perpetual SNP005 is an interesting electro mechanical watch with good accuracy. Seiko essentials solar SNE329 is accurate and water resistant - weekend workhorse. SSA343 cocktail time is my office watch. Love the styling, mechanical operation and power reserve indicator. They all have their unique qualities. That’s what I like about them.
I think I'd go for the "Purist" collection but instead of the 6139 Chrono, I think I'd sub in the 1975 Seiko 6138 Bullhead. For me the Seiko Bullhead automatic just screams iconic 70's Seiko and would have to be an addition to my collection,...that and damnit they just look fantastic!! Great Video, you should consider doing this for a few brands, Tissot, Citizen (automatics), Tudor, Zodiac etc. All would be worthy of one brand collections.
As a watch collector I love seikos i also own a pogue from 1970 6139B 6002 and I own a large collection of vintage seiko digital watches i also own a seiko tv watch from 1983 i want the skx 007 and the turtle and the seiko tuna awesome video
The SB167 Presage Sharp Edge (at 5:20) is a sharp looking watch! The blue waffle dial is awesome. Seiko should think about adding more color dials and it would take sales away from the Rolex Oyster Perpetual since it is immediately available to wear on the wrist and 1/6 of the price (if you could buy the Rolex at an AD). What do you think Seiko?
People buy a rolex because they want a rolex tbh,at the current situation i(and anybody in right mind) wouldnt buy a rolex tbh,the waiting lists for a steel watch with no open caseback is funny,i get that rolexes are tough and nice looking classy everyday watches for people with enough money, but would i wait for a watch? No way, just get another brand for god's sake, but for an answer to you, even though i have a seiko on my wrist, normal seiko like the Presage isnt a real opponent against rolex, they have a lot of quality issues currently, the accuracy isnt even close and the finishing dial etc arent even comparable, you can compare a grand seiko to a rolex but comparing a seiko to a rolex is like comparing a ford(seiko) to an aston martin(rolex),ford might be much cheaper, maybe even faster but astons are at a class of their own,but a ford gt(grand seiko) can be compared to an aston
I have done something similar with Alpina... Seastrong Heritage Diver, Alpiner 4, and Alpinerx. Not sure what’s next, but probably not Alpina. I love their quality for money spent.
Have owned Omegas,Rolexs,Tudors also the Cartier stainless gold Tank,i luv my Gold plated Sports 100m waterproof Automatic 25 jewels with glass back, day date its a watch good for dress occasions too!
My seiko collection: 1. Black Grand Seiko 2. Blue Garden Presage 3. Green Alpinist (Sarb017) 4. Dark Manta Turtle My work watch is a G shock. And adding a Laco watch to my collection.
Really interested in this vid Teddy. Enjoyed it immensely. I own a sarb 033, a sarb 017 green alpinist, a sky diving cocktail time and a sarx 045 just like yours! However my most precious Seiko is an orange Pogue which was an 11th birthday gift from my dad in 1975. I think I'm a bit of a 'tick all the boxes' type of guy but I'm definitely missing a Seiko diver. Not sure which to go for though. I have a Christopher Ward Trident in 38mm with red bezel so don't really feel the need for another diver. I think the next Seiko I get will be of the 'Grand' variety when I can afford one.
Wore the same seiko for 8 years of overseas military service and 10 more years after. Gave it to my son. Currently have a seiko sea lion in my rotation.
Wow! This video encourages me to build my collection. I now have an orient and 2 seikos which are all JDM. I want to build a collection around these 2 brands.
Seiko is probably my favorite brand. They have so many options and I love the fact that they are easily personalized. I only have 12 watches(I'm still building)and they are all seikos apart from 3 of them
12 watches is a pretty large collection. I have 4 watches. A Longines hydroconquest, Hamilton khaki feild aromatic titanium, omega seamaster 300m, and a seiko alpinist
i got 2 seiko watches, one i got for fathers day from my girlfriend an automatic which i wear with pride constantly, i know its not a top of the line spring drive or anything but it is very nice and i plan on wearing it for a long time to come. the second seiko watch i have is the first one i got, its an old 5606 movement with entry through the crystal it needs work, the balance wheel is crooked there is no crown and the stem is just a dot inside the movement its gonna have to be taken all the way apart and repaired, plus the pulsar day date watches, one with a dial that glows and the other a black dial same watch but the hands glow
I've read of collectors not only building collections with one brand; they do so with one MODEL within that one brand! For example, guys might like to get different editions of the Omega Speedmaster or different editions of the TAG Heuer Carrera.
I'm in the middle of this process. I have SLA049, SPB127, a Samurai, and a solar chronograph. I'm adding a Tuna later this year and perhaps a sharp edge. The first non Seiko I want would be a Sinn
I have both a Seiko and Citizen... sooo yes I agree could make a collection just out of one of these brands... love it!!! Maybe do Citizen next? Too similar? Then maybe glycine.
Can you play golf or tennis with a Spring Drive or one of the new 5 models with a 4r35/36? I know that I always wear you out with these questions. I have an old Seiko 5 with a 7s26A I think. I plays sports, rode motorcycles, did gardening, took a shower, worked on machines, dunked in water and just about anything that you could think of with no ramifications for twenty years with no problems. It finally passed away quietly on a winding machine. My SARB 033 says playing active sports could damage it. I have one of the "old" generation 5 models with the 7s26c and it is holding a beat error of .1 after playing albeit running a little fast but consistent. Just wondering what can be used doing what. Since everything is specialized these days.
There's also another one that worth mention: SPC131P1 (white dial) or SPC255P1 (black dial) It is a quartz with chronograph, perpetual calendar and alarm.
Again I love your content man, so very informative. A video on building a collection on Casios or Citizen’s please as I have on or two of each. Thanks.
I bought the black dial sharp edge Presage after buying a srpe51 and a sary057. It's the nicest looking watch in my collection and wears better than my Omega 300m and 126610 submariner.
Fantastic video. I would have included an example of an affordable Grand Seiko with the 9F quartz movement. At around £2,000, the SBGX259 and SBGX261 come in considerably cheaper than some on your list. I've gone along the JDM path. I have the SARB033 (black), SKX007J, will be adding the SARX055... and when funds permit, the aforementioned SBGX261. Perhaps not the most original collection, but oh, what a collection...

King Turtle "Save the Ocean" SRPF77 (Dark Blue Manta)
Seiko 5 SRPC55 (Orange dial)
Flightmaster SNA411
I love these watches. Everyday wear and just phenomenal.
I have owned Pulsar, Lanco, Orient, but Seiko was the trusted partner on my wrist, even during two years of bush warfare. Seiko is a solid timepiece.
An automatic watch ?
I have an All JDM, all Seiko, all 6R15 collection- SARB017 Alpinist, SARB033 Spirit, SARB065 Cocktail Tim, SZSC003 Third Gen Monster. I buy to keep, but interesting to see that clean, all boxes and papers examples have gone up 3X to 4X in price since I bought these new in 2017, 2018. You left out the Monster, but appreciate seeing most of them get some love on the channel!
I collect a lot of Swiss brands but Seiko is by far the most fun to collect! I love them!
I love my Seiko SARB035. Not wearing it lately but it is a keeper in the collection
I’ve watched this 3x already, love it.
Love all my seiko watches. I have 3 so far. My King turtle is maybe my fave.
I got my King Turtle last year for under 500.00. Nice! Great video! Oh....I have Turtles... Samurai...Tunas and a Captain Willard.😉👍
King Turtles are GREAT value. Excellent watches.
I think Seiko is a very good choice for a one brand watch collection. Seiko offers a good variety of affordable solar and automatic models, as well dresswatches and divers.
Plus if you ever want to step up in quality you can always go for a Grand Seiko.
@@iandalonso Yes, some day I will hopefully get a Grand Seiko!
I've got 3 Seiko's already and I plan to add more. Great brand.
Seiko is the way to go. Great video bud.
Bought Seiko SRPD collection watch. Really liked the Seiko brand. Wonderful finish even at the lowest price point.
Seiko does a great job of offering styles that match the looks of much more expensive classics, without feeling like an outright homage. They also have many classics in their own right.
For me, the Alpinist in olive is a more obtainable option to the Breitling pistachio, which ticks all the same boxes in the looks department.
Swatch and Omega are so dear to my heart but this opened my mind to a whole new world. Thanks Teddy.
Teddy , thanks for your outstanding videos !
I appreciate all the quality info Teddy!
been on a massive seiko content binge ever since I got my spb121 and your article on the website and this video really hit the spot
Teddy.. extremely good overview...
Might I also recommend for the JDM wearer the "Ripley"? Quirky, cool, and funky enough to be in a collection. Plus it was designed by Giugiaro!
I thought I know everything about Seiko watches. You again made me learn even more.
You keep knocking these videos out of the park! 👍🏽
Can’t argue with any of the choices.
Hey Teddy... Ive got ONE Watch & its a Seiko. I own a solid gold Seiko Beltronic. it actually has a little bell inside that rings....
I got so many bases covered with my spb143 and sarx057
These $1k or so seikos are just really nice
I think I'd go for the "Purist" collection but instead of the 6139 Chrono, I think I'd sub in the 1975 Seiko 6138 Bullhead. For me the Seiko Bullhead automatic just screams iconic 70's Seiko and would have to be an addition to my collection,...that and damnit they just look fantastic!! Great Video, you should consider doing this for a few brands, Tissot, Citizen (automatics), Tudor, Zodiac etc. All would be worthy of one brand collections.
I bought the Seiko SRPD59 ( 18:30 ) as my first proper watch and now I feel validated seeing it included in this list. Thanks Teddy!
I have a Seiko 6139-8002. Might not be the best 6139 but damn i love that watch.
I grabbed a Sarx 075 and then a Blue Tissot Gentleman along with my Hamilton Intra-Matic makes for a pretty nice looking Trio. Great video Teddy !
As a watch collector I love seikos i also own a pogue from 1970 6139B 6002 and I own a large collection of vintage seiko digital watches i also own a seiko tv watch from 1983 i want the skx 007 and the turtle and the seiko tuna awesome video
Appreciate the blog; huge crush on Seiko. What a brand.
My first automatic watch is Seiko . I'm falling in love . May be i 'll try another brand like Orient
the Seiko Premier were stunning pieces as well.
I recently acquired a Seiko automatic chronograph. I love it!
Nice to see the SARX line mentioned here - such an underrated group of watches.
I liked the purist line, as I have a SKX009 and a SARB035. Both truly classics.
For me Seiko is all about divers. I have many, Atlas, SKX9, Samurai Zimbe #9, Sumo Green, Captain Willard and a MM300.
Have owned Omegas,Rolexs,Tudors also the Cartier stainless gold Tank,i luv my Gold plated Sports 100m waterproof Automatic 25 jewels with glass back, day date its a watch good for dress occasions too!
My seiko collection:
1. Black Grand Seiko
2. Blue Garden Presage
3. Green Alpinist (Sarb017)
4. Dark Manta Turtle
My work watch is a G shock. And adding a Laco watch to my collection.
Great series idea , how bout Citizen and Tissot to compete with this Seiko range ....perhaps even Orient to compare to his Cousin
i also vote on those brands for the next episodes of this series
I have several Brands that I have Multiple pieces of each Brand. I Love Chronographs and have several Seiko Chronographs. Accurate and Dependable!
Four others that are iconic; Seiko Monster, Seiko Flightmaster, Seiko 'Arnie' ani-digi and for dressiness a Seiko Tank.
For a seiko field I went with a solar model. Blue canvas band and blue dial. Great watch under 200.00
Seiko is probably my favorite brand.
Yeah 12 watches is quite a big collection
@@rottenpotato9290 you think so? Mark from Long Island watch has I think 110. Now that's a big collection lol
@@dirkdiggler3673 I'm clocking in at 109 now. :)
@@WatchUnwind solid choices
i got 2 seiko watches, one i got for fathers day from my girlfriend an automatic which i wear with pride constantly, i know its not a top of the line spring drive or anything but it is very nice and i plan on wearing it for a long time to come. the second seiko watch i have is the first one i got, its an old 5606 movement with entry through the crystal it needs work, the balance wheel is crooked there is no crown and the stem is just a dot inside the movement its gonna have to be taken all the way apart and repaired, plus the pulsar day date watches, one with a dial that glows and the other a black dial same watch but the hands glow
One brand Collecsion ☺️
My first one was a Seiko sport and the only one for a long time.
There's also another one that worth mention: SPC131P1 (white dial) or SPC255P1 (black dial)
It is a quartz with chronograph, perpetual calendar and alarm.
One of the best videos 🎉 Well done Teddy!
