Nah, because he spreads alot of misinformation especially when he's talking about PC and Console gaming. He might know a thing or two about TV's but not this.
@@stopthefomo I am torn, and maybe you can help! I want to get a capable tv to play on the Xbox Series X, but I'm contained by my budget. I just picked up the new TCL S535. It allegedly has a "240 motion rate", but no VRR, HDMI 2.1, etc. Will this television be adequate for the first few years of next gen gaming, or have a I missed a better tv around the $500 price point? My impression is that the market isn't yet offering televisions truly optimized for next gen gaming for poor folks like myself.
Quantum TV gets no respect in the A/V community because he constantly exposes himself. If he’d just slow down and take the time to learn from others who know the tech before speaking, he may get somewhere.
Literally all of his videos are just plain wrong. I've called him out on a few of them, but his loyal fan base seems to agree with him (starting to think these are accounts created by him).
One other thing to consider is how game mode affects the picture. HDTVTest has a really good video on this but in short you give up more picture quality on LCD's than OLED's. Or at least that's the case with the C9 and the Q90R
Very True. This is relevant to all FALD TVs as the dimming zone processing is an extra layer that always adds some latency, but if you disable the FALD then you get lifted blacks and washed out HDR. This is why I'm so excited about the CX 48" - it's a move towards recognizing that OLED is the best gaming display technology for TVs for the foreseeable future (until QNED at least).
yeah. The whole point of getting a 480zones local dimming for the improved contrast and alot of that dimming is disabled in game mode makes the lower models a better buy for gaming.
I believe you made a horrible mistake. search "The Tech Giant" and see his videos where he directly compares a qled and an oled while playing games. The difference in picture quality is so obvious that I decided to get an oled. p.s. he has a bunch of videos comparing the two
Avi Pharmd the picture quality definitely edges towards the OLED. Horrible mistake? No. The Q90R gets significantly brighter, can do 4K @ 120hz, and there is no risk of burn-in. If I’m paying $2k+ for a high end TV, I want it to last for many years. Also, I have plans to buy a 48” LG OLED for my PC when it becomes available. Believe me, I did my research.
I asked this question too. I have a r625 and it's clearly only 60hz, but supposedly is getting VRR via a firmware update. I've seen on Rtings or CNET.....somewhere lol, that the r625 can accept a 120hz signal, but skips every other frame, which would eliminate tearing in my eyes. Honestly, I wish I had the money for 120hz panel, but that paper is a little hard to come by these days. Let's hope we at least get these new console's as well, being this illness has screwed everything up.
I doubt all games will have locked FPS and games might choose to lock fps at 30 because they can't get consistent 4k60 fps. But if they do manage to keep the fps at 30 you won't have any stutter or judder issues. And for the other case around when your console output twice your TV refresh rate you will have tearing because your TV will get a new frame in the middle of the refreshing causing it to display the new frame second half instead of the first one. But I'm sure the consoles will have way to lock the frame rate to your TV refresh rate.
@@slowanddeliberate6893 No, because consoles use vsync already. This is why you don't see tearing or stuttering in current gen games, even tho fps varies from 40-60 in "up to 60 fps" games.
There is an important detail about any Samsung TV that doesn't support HDMI 2.1 (basically all of them made before 2020). LFC only works if the upper VRR range of the display exceeds 2.5 times (or maybe 2 times recently) the lower range. So since the lower range is 48Hz you need an upper range of 120Hz (or 96Hz but this is not standard so it's still 120Hz). However an HDMI 2.0 TV is limited to 60Hz at 4k therefore LFC does not engage in that mode.
Its HDMI 2.1 support that I'm worried about so does this mean I can only play at 60Hz at 4K with HDMI 2.0 (or 1080p at120Hz I guese) Do u get HDR support with HDMI 2.0 also dose any one know the resolutions available will I be able to play my xbox SX on a Uwidescreen monitor
There are popular, current games that are capped at 30 fps on console. Destiny 2 happens to be one of them. Bungie always said they'd have to compromise too much to get 60fps on console, wonder if they'll patch it for next gen so it runs faster and avoids the LFC requirement
They surely should. I have a PS4 Pro with an SSD slapped into it and Stadia is currently the better gameplay experience for Destiny on console, ironically :).
Games are made to look good and not to have high frame rates since most people only care about that and not fps . Also the compromise ur talking about is that they would have to graphically downgrade it to much to hit 60fps and they dont think it's worth it but next gen consoles are WAYYY more powerful so that not a problem at all.
*Quantum TV has left the chat* I totally forgot about him but the other day I went to his channel to see his latest uploads and I was reading the comments that blindly praise him like if he's a TV tech guru or something. I pity his fanbase that actually believe in him.....
His fans are all pre-pubescent boys that fall for the Deadpool gimmick. Dude is a clown who knows nothing about tech. He should stick to dancing around in a mask fir his channels main content.
I’m convinced a lot of the comments are just alt accounts that he made. Nearly all of the comments are praise towards him. That’s not normal. He reminds me of Luca Magnotta.
It's worrying how many comments sections are like this. It's not just tech channels either, can be anything from Dunkey to Lemmino. And if you criticise any aspect of the video you get the army of dick suckers ready to defend.
Free sync is not VRR, AMD use the free sync standard however they do not yet work with VRR TVs Nvidia does support VRR I was also under the impression that right from the get go all gsync modules ( in TVs and monitors ) had the ability to go from max refresh rate down to 0 hz, thus they don't need LFC. I would imagine that the LG free sync update will provide the free sync standard via HDMI, permitting a PC with an AMD graphics card to use VRR.
This is the only channel I truly trust.. You're genuinely passionate about TV tech lol. I like it. Edit: wanted pc gaming to be covered 😔 I'll probably go with the LG CX 48" for my computer.
You can just tell FOMO lives and breathes for this stuff, like many of us. I also second HDTV test, for the most part. He seems slightly biased in what he reviews, but his information is typically spot on, and at the very least informative. As far as Rtings and DT.. they're just okay in my eyes. They're more of just a ratings site anyways. They don't go too in depth on the products, and don't articulate why they rated something the way they did, very good. They've got a lot of reach, as far as the products they get in, but sometimes that can be sketchy. I always try and "trust the masses", as FOMO puts it. I took his word on the TCL r625, and couldn't be happier with my purchase. Then you got people like QUANTUM TV who are just.....ewww.
anony mous I see you didn’t trust him to go get Samsung TV because you know Samsung picture quality and accuracy and performance is lacking so he ain’t that trustworthy
@@alambe7275 I take it you're talking about FOMO? Meaning he recommends the Q90R? I mean he demonstrates just how the Samsung can be more inaccurate than a TCL... He recommends the Samsung bc it's the most capable TV all around, in the LCD market. It just has better technology for gamers and such, but that doesn't always relate to PQ and accuracy.
@@JR-rp7vr I love it! Only had small issues. I've seen the "vrr flicker" in two games, easily solved by just not using in in those games. And also I see some faint grid pattern in bright hdr highlights. I've confirmed that it's not just an issue on my display since it was there on my friend as well. Not too visible but still annoying. A pixel refresh did make it better though. Got a ps5 coming next week so then I can finally get some 4k blu-rays to test.
@@simonfil2 Thanks for the info. I just watched a video on the ps5 on the CX and at 120hz 60fps, a lot of graphical glitches take place on Call of Duty. CX is still being reviewed as the the best tv on the market still for gaming. I dont know if I can sacrifice issues though at 120fps which is what I use it mostly for being competitive fps shooters.
And.....people like QUANTUM hate on FOMO? Tried calling him out, and still does. If anything, he's the one out there giving false information and misinforming his viewer's. FOMO has never given any false information in my eyes, and if he did, it most likely wasn't intentional. Only his true and honest opinion. He also tends to be very objective, rather than subjective. Quantum claims FOMO is nothing but a salesman, but the only one I see trying to push product down someone's throat, was him with the H9F. I'm not hating on that TV either, but he sure has a hate a clear disgust for the r625. I just find it rather odd he claims it has such bad motion, yet I can use Quantum's own torture test (the intro to some anime series on Netflix) and have no Judder or stutter, or artifacts (with motion interpolation...eww). It just seems like he is misinforming people. As an owner of a TCL r625 I can see where people say it has horrible motion. For example, if you turn on action smoothing with 24p content, it's horrendous for most things. That's bc this TV isn't designed like that, and I've never seen a 60hz TV that was. The descrepancy between the frame rate and refresh rate is just amplified with motion interpolation. The correct setting would be Natural Cinema in that instance. Where if you where watching football, or something 30fps or even 60fps, then you could use action smoothing, but honestly I just don't like that stuff. It's really not needed on this TV. People should expect the content their watching to have good motion. Not expect the television to compensate and add frames with artifacts. I mean it's cool and all, but fundamentally flawed this far, and causes artifacts no matter what. No matter the TV. It's guessing the frames. Quantum seems to not understand this, and just bc the h9f has 120hz panel and can handle motion interpolation with 24p content a lot better, doesn't make it the bestest TV ever, and way better than the r625, when the TCL clearly is a better cinema TV. More accurate PQ, colors, better black uniformity and shadow detail, etc. I'm pretty sure someone out there has even made up a suggested or recommend camera panning speeds for filmmakers to go by, in order to make films smoother.. The thing people should aim for and want is CONSISTENCY. Not some hyper real GoPro footage, unless it supposed to be like that.... remember the creators intent.... I can't even watch films like that...sry
@Hallucinogenichusky exactly what I meant! Well said. It's not like FOMO even claims to know everything anyways.. but he tries his best to give the most accurate info he can, and correct himself whenever possible.
@@Heliosvector Really? Wow, I didn't know that. Is he just outright open about it? I haven't watched much of his content. I'm pretty sure it's self explanatory, as to why I don't lol.
feel like I'm on some school class and listen DR fomo what gonna saying... thanks fomo for best possible explanation of essential things for next gen console PS5 or Xbox....
One correction. Its not just games capped at 30FPS. Its any game that could potentially fall into the 30FPS range when playing, legacy or newer doesn't matter. The way its presented here makes it sound like its only a legacy game issue when it's not.
Two things. Console games are already mostly tear free, due to the games and systems using very heavy frame buffering and synchronization, which introduces a couple of frames extra lag when compared to a similar game on PC (PC is still more responsive even at triple frame buffer). The benefit of VRR is definitely the reduced delay instead of tear free experience. We might even see more unlocked framerates, and it will look nicer, thanks to VRR. At best, VRR could halve the input delay on the game/system side, possibly. My favorite part would definitely be the unlocked framerate. Second, we are probably going to see more high framerate games next gen, and some very high framerates thanks to the 120Hz output, but Im confident that 30 and 60FPS will still be the usual framerate targets. Though, they can do some console side compensation for those lower framerates under the TV's VRR range. I have understood Microsoft has been working on some sort of low framerate compensation system on Xbox One, to help with the VRR implementation.
Amazingly clear explanation. Thank you for your readings and researches. I think the lighting is not bright enough in your video. I prefer the one shot beginning of April like on the Q900TS subject. Keep up the good work.
That doesn't make sense. If the frames drop below 48FPS, V-Sync kicks in, and 30FPS with V-Sync there is no stutter because it's a divisor of 120 and 60, the lack of LFC for 30FPS will not cause stutters. Things are different if the framerates drops to anywhere between 31 and 47 FPS though
My LG C1 OLED has all the tehnologies( Freesync Premium including LFC, Gsync, VRR, ALLM, 120hz 4hdmi 2.1, HDR10 & DOLBY VISION HLG, but after watching your video i finally understand that i have to activate only freesync premium in order to play games on my Ps5 that works only at 30fps🤩 without any problems now.
That's why people gotta choose what they really want. I got a Samsung because I use my tv primarily for gaming. But if your really into movies I'd go with lg oled. It all depends on your usage.
30 FPS is not only important for “legacy” games. There will be XBSX and PS5 games that run at less than 60fps. There WILL be some games that will use a lot more graphical detail and run at 30fps (not 60fps) to get there. So I think LFC is really important, even for next (or next next) gen games!!!!
Thx FoMo. This is why I subbed to your Channel. You make it very easy to understand all of this 🔥🔥🔥😎 I would never use the New XsX for 30 fps games. I would just use my xbox one x for that if I wanted to play any legacy games..
But when a legacy game @ 30 fps runs on a high end console connected to a 120hz TV (without LFC) , would it not be that the console should have no problem maintaining a locked 30 fps making it effectively stutter free? (120 is dividable by 30 and thus turning 1 frame simply into 4 frames)
TWOvsONE I wouldn’t call it misleading. It’s just assuming that a game would reach 30fps all the time. I suppose for a ps5 or xbox playing a legacy game there should be no problem with it getting consistently 30fps, but playing an old console on it could experience some stuttering. But that’s already happening now with most high end games that are barely holding on with the sunset consoles.
@@Heliosvector Guys I'm currently playing xbox one x RDR2 on C9 and the stutter is quite strong, so I think this is what he means if you want to play 30 fps games you should have a Samsung Tv instead. Such a shame that LG doesn't support LFC.
Capped 30fps games will work fine as long as they don't drop below that. A locked 30fps doesn't need VRR so it'll work natively on a 120Hz panel similarly how it already works on a 60Hz panel. It'll simply perform a 4:4 pulldown. LFC is a great feature, because it'll allow game developers to use an uncapped framerate more often though. Most games that are capped at 30fps will run easily in the 40s and sometimes even 50s if the framecap is deactivated. The great thing about LFC is that it doesn't require the game to run above the TVs threshold all the time so games that struggle to get framerates above 40 or 48 fps (depending on which TV) all the time could still benefit from higher framerates. With locked 30fps games (which most legacy games are), there won't be any problems though.
I enjoyed the video but the info about 30fps stuttering is mostly incorrect. Stuttering has more to with frame pacing and how steady the framerate stays. So if a game has a 30fps cap with no frame pacing issues you won't get stuttering. A television has no control over this. It's up to the hardware(your console or pc) and the way the game is optimized by the developer for the game to run at a consistent smooth 30fps with no frame pacing spikes or dips in order to get no stutter.
@@MMTT7sALd It depends what "just fine" means to you. Some also like the 24 frames of movies, where I just find it unacceptable. 30 frames look better than a dynamic framerate because you get used to the constant little stuttering and might be able to filter that out/ignore it. If the game uses a dynamic framerate you might see more stuttering, even of that game always runs higher than 30fps. It's highly subjective. I hoped that finally with Ps5 we might be able to get 60 frames as a minimum, but no, many games will still run at 30 frames. Maybe the PS6 will finally deliver.
So does that mean that LFC is not important for consoles (including the upcoming ones)? Trying to decide between C9 and CX and noticed only CX has LFC. Please respond. Basically similar question to @Brad D
Can I get some clarification on VRR and LFC. I guess this relates to Xbox One X, as that’s the only device out there that supports it. As I understand it, LFC is operating under FreeSync. The thing is, I’ve read LFC ONLY operates under HDMI 2.1. Being that the Xbox One X’s VRR is used under its HDMI 2.0b specs, you can’t use LFC on any current console, even if the TV supports it (like a Samsung for instance). It’s effectively redundant this generation. You’d have to have a PS5 or XSX working under the HDMI 2.1 environment to harness LFC. Is that right?
There may still be hope. Don't forget that a lot of games do have VSync, even games from 360/PS3 era; especially if they were also released on PC. The problem with Vsync is that it costs processor and graphics card power by providing the anti-tearing within the console rather than the display. However, older games at 30FPS will be very light indeed on the PS5/Series X processor and graphics so there will be loads of headroom to process the VSync.
Okay, this video needs to be recommended more to everyone right now. Since it’s helping me reconsider purchasing a Xbox series X, and it’s definitely going to get others to reconsider purchasing a next gen console, and having to deal with buying a most likely, thousand dollar tv. And now I’m mad cause I can’t find a economy class tv that’ll at least be $500 below with 120Hz :(...ima stick with a Xbox one X then... (Edit) I just did some research and he did have a point Samsung does have 120 hz possibly. The Samsung CrystalUHD and the UHD tv provide 4K along with the 120 , but don’t quote me since it says 120 MR (motion rate) and I’m not sure if it’s the same thing. And it’s possible Samsung has more “120MR” just that I took the crystaluhd and the uhdtv ad a economic class approach since they are below my desired $500 dollar limit.
My friend i don't think u can found tv for next gen console PS5 or Xbox for 500... powerful machine like Xbox X needs powerful tv... LG OLED or Samsung QLED best possible choice.... we must be grateful for the continues the story about low console price PS5 or Xbox price for 500 this is miracle when everyone today paying for normal smartphone 1000-1500$ .....
On PCs, you will get tearing at fps above your monitor’s refresh rate, wether you use VRR or not. Please go to 6:17 in this video for a better explanation. The way you explain it makes it seem like it’s no longer an issue if your fps is above your refresh rate.
After watching RafCave's livestream of him setting up the LG CX and playing a bunch of high frame rate games, I'm getting the LG CX for the PS5 consoles. I'm leaving Samsung for the time being because Samsung should've never took out specs for the Q90T to sell 8K TVs. I'll come back when they do the new tech like Micro LED.
Same here. Got the LG CX on order. RafCave's livestream was very helpful. Also "The Tech Giant" side by side comparison showed a huge difference between the LG and the Samsung.
At 14:32 you say "FreeSync Premium Pro we can put aside that's for PC gamers", but considering it mentions HDR (which is supported by the latest iteration of the current gen and next-gen consoles) why wouldn't it also be important for consoles? Would be grateful if you could clarify, perhaps in that "PC gaming" video you're planning. Thank you and keep up the good work!
SupeRoesti Same here,I have 46” Sony TV and had it for 12 yrs and its running great but I’m waiting for PS5 and perfect 4K TV with HDMI 2.1 when it comes out
Jean Baro The only downgrade is 12 bit 120hz content isn’t possible due to the 40Gbps ports, 12 bit 60hz is still possible and 10 bit 120hz is possible too. Only 2 pc games support 12 bit gaming anyways and zero console games. Not an issue at all.
kelly hoskins based on all the debates popping up between the LG OLED C9/CX being future proof or not for the next gen consoles (main reason I wanted to upgrade my TV), I just decided if I found a cheaper solution on the C9, there just wasn't enough of a difference to make the price of the CX (or any other TV) worth it. And since I found this half off, I knew this was going to be worth it over paying the $5000 of the brand new CX with minimal changes to it. Even if it's not THE best and future proof for next gen consoles compared to another TV, I had my old 65" LG OLED from 2015 and it still looks better any other TV I've owned - including my 78" Samsung. Gaming on it is just stunning and I know the C9 will just improve it even more. At the end of the day, the price that I paid for this beats out the majority of the competition even if there is a better TV for next gen consoles. It just depends on how much you're willing to pay and how much the quality and minor upgrades are worth it to you.
You don't need Freesync for next gen consoles anyway. I'm sure the PS5 won't even support this feature and use the HDMI 2.1 VRR spec instead. Most games will run at 30/60 fps at fixed 60/120 Hz anyway. Just wait and see. Sony and Microsoft knows that 99.99% of next gen console buyers are using a TV without VRR and 120 Hz native. Consoles are made for the masses, and goal will be 30/60 fps at 60 Hz. Locked and fixed.
Ok, I’m confused regarding LFC. If the game is capped at constant 30fps and your panel is, say, @ 120Hz, would not the TV just duplicate each frame four times to simulate 30Hz output? Isn’t it what TV does already for video sources that are @24, 30 or 60Hz? Why would LFC be required in this case?
Nothing is required to play 30fps games, you just wont get the no stuttering experience. Which is what we've been getting with every console before XboxX/ps5
jake9012 if you’ve never experienced Gsync on PC or Freesync Premium on consoles, you don’t know realize you’re experiencing stuttering until you experience the benefits of what it’s like without it. It’s VERY hard to go back once you feel the smoothness of these new syncing capabilities
Tearing isn’t causes by the console outputting too many frames for the TV to handle. It’s caused by the console not being able to complete a frame in time. The tear line is where it was able to render the frame before having to start a new one. It’s the complete opposite of what this guy is saying, it’s caused by the framerate being too low, not too high.
@Randy white (WRX-19) LG is literally the only company with a current lineup that's future proofed their high end tv's with 2.1hdmi. Do your research before you start spreading misinformation and make someone start freaking out about their purchase.
How is the C9? I’m between the 77’ B9 or C9 but curious the pros and cons of both. If you guys don’t mind giving input I’d greatly appreciate it. I was consider the LG wallpaper tv but I saw this comment.
The truth is, as most people won't have the latest TV model, devs will have to make sure they offer enough settings in their games for people to fit their TVs
What's your opinion on Dolby Vision coming to gaming? Do you think this is something we will see? I would think game's could benefit from the live metadata for HDR?
Like all things involving "dynamic metadata", its successful application greatly depends on the efforts of the development team - it could have DV but look like crap! So don't get too hung up on the DV label, but rather follow the reputation of the game design team. This is why HGiG was established - set set minimum standards for consistently high quality HDR gaming experience from software to hardware.
@@stopthefomo lol thanks for the advice and reply man...and trust me I have. The HDR implementation on both PS4 pro and Xbox One X are far from consistent. Some games have been unplayable at launch in HDR, it's been that bad. I definitely catch your drift lol. Basically, my point was, if implemented correctly by a developer, I would think the dynamic metadata would at least help a little bit, when it comes to making games more cinematic, maybe? Hopefully this next gen goes all out with HDR10, at the very least. There's not much difference between the two forms, but I do seem to enjoy DV slightly better on my TV. I've really enjoyed RDR2 since they finally patched the HDR on that game. That was one of those that needed a ton of help at launch, but HDR is so much more realistic. It's hard to go back to SDR, as things really tend to look fake, and less realistic. It also help non realistic games pop.
@CanadianLoki76 Okay bud...we'll see. Dolby Vision content is just available as HDR10 content...in this day in age. It's clearly the superior format over HDR10. So, in theory, if developers and studios want to pay for the licensing to support DV, they will. I was asking FOMO, not some random on YT...no offense, but you're comment told me nothing I don't already know, and your lack of understanding that Dolby Vision is on the rise, especially with Netflix making it a standard for their original series... there's also other places like Vudu, VOD, Disney Plus, Amazon, etc....ALL WITH TONS OF DOLBY VISION content. Why wouldn't gaming studio's put another marketing term like "available in Dolby Vision" to draw more attention? I mean the Xbox One X already supports it for video playback in Dolby Vision. Why's it so hard to imagine them trickeling this into gaming? I'm pretty sure the One X has a few games in DV as well.
@@JumpRopeLift I just wanted to say, I appreciate you chiming in on this convo, and spitting some truth. I too replied to CanadianLoki and pretty much told him how wrong he is when it comes to DV as well. That's the problem with someone like me asking questions to FOMO...just as topics for videos and to talk, but get responses from people on YT who wanna give you false information, or their own subjective opinion, rather than looking at the facts. DV will find it's way into games. Better believe that.
The lg c9 supports lfc. I don’t care if it’s not advertised. It’s also not advertised as supporting Freesync, but you can get it to work by using cru. I have a video demonstrating lfc on my channel. I dropped framerate below the gsync floor and there still wasn’t tearing.
Best video about the subject I found anywhere. Thank you so much! Trying to choose my TV for the next console generation and I was feeling overwhelmed - now I am comfortable
Capped 30fps games have no problem on any tv. Uncapped 30fps have little problem even with framerate compensation because there are unpredictable frame dips.

I assume this way of putting it is good for this audience.. but .. more specifically.. tearing is caused by incomplete frames... it can do it with higher or lower rates... anything out of sync with the panel. tearing is also eliminated with v-sync, but introduces latency... so then you pick from one of two evils... based on preference. VRR and Gsync syncs the panel to the GPU.. (within a range)

I’m pretty sure qleds don’t go over 60hz if they are less than 55”. LG CX however does reach 120hz even at the 48” size and supports vrr from 40-120fps whereas qleds above 55” go between 48-120fps vrr range
I just upgraded to a B9. Got a great deal on it so I guess I’ll just have to accept the stutter for older games next gen. For now, my current games look amazing. I was blown away by the different between ff7 on a budget tv from 8 years ago and the b9.
Ehh, you won't get any stutter. All LG 2019 OLEDs are 100% suited for next gen gaming. Freesync is NOT a needed feature. FOMO spreads misinformation here. Next gen consoles will target 30 and 60 fps locked in most games. 30 fps locked will simply run your TV at fixed 60 or 120 Hz. No stutter. No tearing. Just like current consoles. If a game supports VRR then great, your TV does 40-120 VRR in HDMI 2.1 - Which next gen will support.
I bought a 55 inch Samsung Q70 back in the fall. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made. True 120hz but can be put in 60hz, Freesync, 1080p 1440p and 4k, 6 ms response time in game mode with game motion plus off. Also watching tv looks amazing but I got it for gaming. I primarily play on PC but am probably going to buy ps5 for exclusives and third person action games like assassins creed cause since they aren’t multiplayer the 4k on a 55 inch is nice. I can’t wait to play AC Valhalla on it.
Why do I never notice stuttering on 30 fps games on my 2017 samsung 4k 120hz tv? I mean most 4k games if not all are capped at 30fps on the ps4 and xbox one x.
Its 120hz. I made sure of that when I bought it. Do you ever see stuttering on your current games? The way he speaks we should be seeing it in almost every game that runs in 4k. We should also be seeing stuttering in our cable tv. I never see it.
Because 30 fps is easily divisible into 120Hz and Samsung knows how to properly interpolate this? I can only share with you the technical theory behind these specs, but real world results? Well, that remains to be seen. For example all this belly aching over Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and ultimately, the differences are so minor and limited to specific scenes from specific movies that it's all pointless - as long as you have HDR10 you're solid. And Sony's inability to properly implement Dolby Vision in 2018 just drives home this point.
@@TheManWhoTypes - With cable TV or a game that is stable 30pfs the TV will just display each frame twice or four times. Or it might use frame interpolation to 'imagine' what the in between frames should look like. It's 120hz but it's not recieving a 120hz signal most of the time, maybe never.
@@davidste60 yeah I'd say its never actually getting 120hz. I'm a console gamer. If having a stable framerate is enough to fix the stuttering then it seems like a non-issue. Any older game should run at a locked 30fps. In fact that's how it is now with any backwards compatible games on the xbox one x.
I think we can all rest assured that no console game will run at 120hz in the next gen, except for maybe backwards comp. games, but even then. I doubt it. They always prioritize image quality over FPS. We're lucky if we get 60fps games in general!
What other console compatibility issues would you like me to include in the follow up video? UPDATE: 2020 LG OLED and Nano85/86/90/91 TVs have Freesync Premium like Samsung!
I think you may have missed on this one a bit. Capped 30fps and 60fps framerates on TV's without freesync is no more of a problem than watching movies at 24fps on a 120hz display. That is the reason WHY developers put caps on framerates rather than letting the console pump out as many frames as it possibly can--the framerate would be inconsistent and get off pace creating the tearing and stuttering you're talking about. The real issue with next gen consoles is whether the TV has an HDMI 2.1 (or display port) input that will even *accept* more than 60fps at 4k.
FOMO on TECH did you see that the H9g is now on presale on amazon for $999 for the 65”?! Kinda want to get it but kinda want to wait for the XD from Hisense but not much word lately as when exactly it’ll come out besides q3 or q4 nor is the price released. Any clue if the Hisense XD will have HDMI 2.1?
I don't understand why he says "G-Sync is nVidia's way to enable Freesync" because G-Sync requires a proprietary sync module and therefore is a completely different implementation as FreeSync. AFAIK GSync won't be much use for PS5.
Im not sure about anyone else, but I’d like a non-oled to avoid burn in.... Oleds ability to burn in, was the original reason for why I went with an LCD so far in the 4k tv era. So I’m going to have to look at the non oled 4k tv’s with Dolby vision. I may have made a bad call in avoiding oled so far, I will have to compare the quality in image between oled and lcd today. And I will have to figure out if I buy a tv this year, which one makes the most sense...
Might wanna make note that next gen consoles will still release games at 30 fps. Especially the PS5, a lot of the games they've been showing off are running at 30 fps.
We have stuttering problems in this generation, PS4 / PS4 Pro / Xbox one dont have VRR (LFC), and with most games running at 30fps, if played on a 120hz panel like the C9 or C10, you will experience stutter, but that's not a "problem", the games don't become unplayable, I just played Last of us part 2 on my Lg C9 and it looks great in it.
For some reason this guy sounds like he would be a good teacher
Nah, because he spreads alot of misinformation especially when he's talking about PC and Console gaming. He might know a thing or two about TV's but not this.

The Samsung looked horrible in game mode.
FOMO on TECH that’s the one I want to get
yeah. The whole point of getting a 480zones local dimming for the improved contrast and alot of that dimming is disabled in game mode makes the lower models a better buy for gaming.

Avi Pharmd the picture quality definitely edges towards the OLED. Horrible mistake? No. The Q90R gets significantly brighter, can do 4K @ 120hz, and there is no risk of burn-in. 120hz signal on 60hz doesn't cause tearing because it's 2:1, every other frame is in sync with the refresh of the panel so its not an issue
Sometimes the frame rate can temporarily drop to like 58fps, which could possibly cause stuttering.
@@eliadbu Great insight man! I too suspect this will be the case.
Its HDMI 2.1 support that I'm worried about so does this mean I can only play at 60Hz at 4K with HDMI 2.0 (or 1080p at120Hz I guese)
Do u get HDR support with HDMI 2.0 also dose any one know the resolutions available will I be able to play my xbox SX on a Uwidescreen monitor
@@WhyplayGaming ofcourse u will get hdr with 4k @60 fps , we already have it on this console generation
There are popular, current games that are capped at 30 fps on console. Destiny 2 happens to be one of them. Bungie always said they'd have to compromise too much to get 60fps on console, wonder if they'll patch it for next gen so it runs faster and avoids the LFC requirement
Yeah hopefully
They surely should. I have a PS4 Pro with an SSD slapped into it and Stadia is currently the better gameplay experience for Destiny on console, ironically :).
Games are made to look good and not to have high frame rates since most people only care about that and not fps .
Also the compromise ur talking about is that they would have to graphically downgrade it to much to hit 60fps and they dont think it's worth it but next gen consoles are WAYYY more powerful so that not a problem at all.

Free sync is not VRR, AMD use the free sync standard however they do not yet work with VRR TVs
Nvidia does support VRR
I was also under the impression that right from the get go all gsync modules ( in TVs and monitors ) had the ability to go from max refresh rate down to 0 hz, thus they don't need LFC.
I would imagine that the LG free sync update will provide the free sync standard via HDMI, permitting a PC with an AMD graphics card to use VRR.

"freesync premium" holy cow, the world is getting beyond ridiculous
One correction. Its not just games capped at 30FPS. Its any game that could potentially fall into the 30FPS range when playing, legacy or newer doesn't matter. The way its presented here makes it sound like its only a legacy game issue when it's not.
Almost fooled you!
Great video looking forward to part2 with the remaining open topics

30 FPS is not only important for “legacy” games. There will be XBSX and PS5 games that run at less than 60fps. There WILL be some games that will use a lot more graphical detail and run at 30fps (not 60fps) to get there. So I think LFC is really important, even for next (or next next) gen games!!!!
Very true, AC Valhalla has already be confirmed to run at only 30fps on next gen consoles.
Thx FoMo. This is why I subbed to your Channel. You make it very easy to understand all of this 🔥🔥🔥😎 I would never use the New XsX for 30 fps games. I would just use my xbox one x for that if I wanted to play any legacy games..
Lets be realist here. There will be next gen games that are capped at 30fps, not only legacy games.
Yea, there wouldnt be any stutter in this case. The video has misleading infos.
Thank you for that clarification!
Same thing i was thinking we're already playing 30 fps games now just fine
So does this mean that LFC is not important (or even required) for games that run at 30fps (and, therefore, likely dip below 30fps sometimes)?
I'm getting a 8K TV with the Xbox series X 💪💪
I hope you make a video in the future to which TV are perfect for PS5 and Xbox SX when those TVs becomes available

LG OLED or Samsung QLED best possible choice.... we must be grateful for the continues the story about low console price PS5 or Xbox price for 500 this is miracle when everyone today paying for normal smartphone 1000-1500$ .....
120 motion rate is 60hz, 240 motion rate is 120hz, those are Samsung marketing tricks to fool customers.
Hego Damask II your a life saver ☝🏼
You say old game at 30fps but what about like for example red dead 2 which runs at 30fps? Will it have issues?
Perfect timing!
This is first time I fully understand tearing and stuttering
Samsung has been slacking since 2019 models, all downgrades. Sold my Q9F and bought a CX. Man, wish id bought a OLED earlier..
My 1080p TV has 13 years and it's running like a charm. But maybe it'll be the time to change. Good video by the way
SupeRoesti Same here,I have 46” Sony TV and had it for 12 yrs and its running great but I’m waiting for PS5 and perfect 4K TV with HDMI 2.1 when it comes out
what about hdmi 2.1 the samsung doesn't support hdmi 2.1 but has everything else?
Exactly
yeah it has VRR etc etc...
My trinitron is ready for next gen!
Why didn't you mention HDMI 2.1 even once?
Right. Probably because he is recommending Samsung which doesn't have 2.1
Does Samsung support 4k 60fps?
Is HDMI 2.1 required for 4k 60fps??
@@slowanddeliberate6893 yes but it doesn't support 120 the new consoles do.
Duvall 2020 Samsung’s have 2.1
VRR is an HDMI 2.1 feature so if a TV has VRR then it’s hdmi 2.1
What about HDR? Dolby vision vs hdr10? Who has what?
Nice video but you didn’t actually recommend any TVs? I’ve got the 65” LG C9 and love it. I feel like I’m ready for next gen.
@Ib7 h isn't the HDMI 2.1 on the CX a downgrade from C9?
LG 2020 OLED series has had a recent firmware update for AMD Freesync Premium
I was originally going to wait for the 77" LG CX, but I literally just stumbled on an open box 77" LG C9 for $2250 at Best Buy....SOLD!
Jon Kappel I’m thinking about going with a 77 inc C9 over the cx myself
kelly hoskins based on all the debates popping up between the LG OLED C9/CX being future proof or not for the next gen consoles (main reason I wanted to upgrade my TV), I just decided if I found a cheaper solution on the C9, there just wasn't enough of a difference to make the price of the CX (or any other TV) worth it.
Dima good question and was wondering also that i’m atm playing capped 30fps games with my 120hz lg c9. I don’t see any stuttering? Should I?
There's a range tvs have from 40 to 120hz only Samsung supports down to 20 right now. The older tvs are 20 to 60hz.
ZeroFallout1 What older TVs? Older TVs did not support VRR, they always had constant refresh rate @ 60Hz.
jake9012 if you’ve never experienced Gsync on PC or Freesync Premium on consoles, you don’t know realize you’re experiencing stuttering until you experience the benefits of what it’s like without it.
I've bought my LG b9 the other day for the ps5
Yep PS five for me all the way and I’m rolling with the best picture performance quality TV in the market today and in the future that’s LG OLED
@Randy white (WRX-19) the c9 does have 2.1 support already.
@Randy white (WRX-19) LG is literally the only company with a current lineup that's future proofed their high end tv's with 2.1hdmi. Do your research before you start spreading misinformation and make someone start freaking out about their purchase.
I own a c9 it has 4 hdmi 2.1 ports 😂😂 need to google it a bit more bud
How is the C9? I’m between the 77’ B9 or C9 but curious the pros and cons of both. If you guys don’t mind giving input I’d greatly appreciate it. I was consider the LG wallpaper tv but I saw this comment.
The truth is, as most people won't have the latest TV model, devs will have to make sure they offer enough settings in their games for people to fit their TVs
Dang this guy is good. Subscribed.
Better believe that.
ps5 wont be supporting dolby vision. They have their own 3d audio thing with the tempest engine, and no one really knows how that will work.
The lg c9 supports lfc. I don’t care if it’s not advertised. It’s also not advertised as supporting Freesync, but you can get it to work by using cru. I have a video demonstrating lfc on my channel. I dropped framerate below the gsync floor and there still wasn’t tearing.
I own the LG C8 77 inch I don’t need anything anymore
until you get burn in lol
GROMINOL what then? I will never get burn in man. Even with burn in the TV is not unwatchable...
LG also got FreeSync Premium recently via a firmware update. Just letting people know, who may are interested in an LG TV like I am.
I have not heard anyone explain it so clearly perfect explanation 👌
"Back In the Day"..You got a New TV when the old one stopped working.. Now it seems like with new and improved models coming out every year (Until Now). and something called Planned obsolescence (Better to buy new than get the old one fixed) ... Well the global economic slowdown may bring back the days of If it ain't broke... I am going to go out on a limb (way out) and predict Limited sales for the New X Box and PS Whatever....Why?? Jobless won't spend $$ on the latest game System..and it will keep the price high so the Manufactures can recoup some of the development costs..
JFPriest consoles are selling out of stock because people have nothing better to do. Console sales won’t be affected much by this. Right now you cannot even find Nintendo switches except from a scalper.
JFPriest wrong. Ppl are getting stimulus checks and most are making way more on unemployment than when they were working so they are defiantly buying. Which is good for the economy
@@KayKashi Ever hear of the Overnight Discount window ?? It is where Banks go to get money from The Federal Reserve when they can not balance their books at the end of the day. JFPriest we are set to get 2,000 a month for a year or another 1,200 a month for a year. The first round of stimulus checks have already been spent on bills for most of us. Unemployment is split between paying bills shopping and saving. Plus they extended that for 22 weeks. We won’t be back to “normal” but as of right now she should be “ok”.
Wavy Kay Great for the economy until tax time when somebody has to pay for the stimulus checks....
Man that was a great breakdown of feature info! Was so confused on what to base my decision on when upgrading the tv.
Yeah but he’s telling you to go get one of the worst picture and video quality accuracy TV in the market Sam song
I'm two minutes in and I'm convinced there's no glass in his glasses
🤣😂
Samsung Q80T is the probably the ideal TV for most gamers.
Haha no. TV is pretty garbage actually. Samsung only sells garbage these days.
vizio oled 2020 if cheaper than CX LG
what about picture quality, cheaper means nothing
Vizio = Bad support and service. Tons of software bugs!
Very well simplified such hectic topics
Lg c9 value for money best choice to make
Help out a poor fella here understanding something , hear me out :
I m going to buy a LG either c9 or cx for movies and was thinking to get a LG cx 48” for next gen consoles BUT since its low nits in hdr I was leaning toward a Q90t due to its higher brightness
Now to the confusion , this tv has 4k@120hz panel , fomo says its vrr range is 120 to 48 but according to rtings that’s not at 4K , none of the qleds I checked goes higher than 60hz vrr at 4K
Let’s assume some of the future games from the next gen consoles will eventually run at 120fps does it mean the Q90t will still cap at 60 FPS at 4K ?
Ps sorry for typos or general bad English
At last somebody who has been to the sane site as me!!! This confuses me. Samsung Q90R 2019 model apparently supports 120hz yet it does not support HDMI 2.1? Wtf? So what’s the source for this out output of 4K@120hz if it’s does not have HDMI 2.1?????
I’m pretty sure qleds don’t go over 60hz if they are less than 55”. LG CX however does reach 120hz even at the 48” size and supports vrr from 40-120fps whereas qleds above 55” go between 48-120fps vrr range
I just upgraded to a B9. Got a great deal on it so I guess I’ll just have to accept the stutter for older games next gen. For now, my current games look amazing. I was blown away by the different between ff7 on a budget tv from 8 years ago and the b9.
P C I also have the b9, what do you mean by stutter?
Maybe it's using frame interpolation i.e. not true 120hz. Just a thought.
Sounds like I’m set with my Q8FN.
TheSimpleSuperior1 Yea 8K Tv has HDMI 2.1 but does have VRR and will it need it for PS5 and Xbox SX🤷🏽♂️
What about HDMI 2.1 support? What about HDR?
Again about 5 minutes worth of content stretched out over 20 minutes. I suggest you script it and stick to the script.
Great video! You should revisit this once the consoles and the new TVs this year are out!
What other console compatibility issues would you like me to include in the follow up video? UPDATE: 2020 LG OLED and Nano85/86/90/91 TVs have Freesync Premium like Samsung!
When are you doing the Hisense H8G review?
Had to cancel the order because it was "lost in transit", check out my community post about this bogusness.
Yes, I'm reserving the PC gaming review for the first batch of RTX HDMI 2.1 cards coming out this summer.
Where did you see that the xbox will support LFC?
Does 60 Hz TV needs VRR?
Series X is the best
Im not sure about anyone else, but I’d like a non-oled to avoid burn in.... Oleds ability to burn in, was the original reason for why I went with an LCD so far in the 4k tv era. So I’m going to have to look at the non oled 4k tv’s with Dolby vision. I may have made a bad call in avoiding oled so far, I will have to compare the quality in image between oled and lcd today. And I will have to figure out if I buy a tv this year, which one makes the most sense...
I just bought a TCL 55S25. All the right tools without the brand name pricing
No offense but your TV is a pile of dog shit!
The Best explanation of what TV is best for next gen console gaming so far
Might wanna make note that next gen consoles will still release games at 30 fps. Especially the PS5, a lot of the games they've been showing off are running at 30 fps.
We have stuttering problems in this generation, PS4 / PS4 Pro / Xbox one dont have VRR (LFC), and with most games running at 30fps, if played on a 120hz panel like the C9 or C10, you will experience stutter, but that's not a "problem", the games don't become unplayable, I just played Last of us part 2 on my Lg C9 and it looks great in it.
Very good video. Please watch this at 1.5x playback speed you'll thank me later.
not only the tv also the HDMI 2.1 cable is difficult to know which is good and which is not. excellent video!
