    C1 and C2 support a variable refresh between 20hz and 120hz too. The CX is limited to 40hz to 120hz. This could cause confusion for people so i thought i would clear that up is all :). C1 is brilliant with the Series X and VRR with that range.

      Do you use the vrr option or the freesync one? The C1 is wierd cause you can have them both on at the same time but it seems when you have them both on, freesync takes priority since it is what shows up on the game bar.

    HDMI Forum VRR
    AMD Freesync
    Nvidia "G-Sync Compatible"
    Those brands of the variable refresh rate technology are based on the same VESA Adaptive Sync (Display Port) standard, but they are not exactly identical and their compatibility is not guaranteed. For example, since the PS5 doesn't support Freesync, variable refresh rate can work on Freesync monitors, but does not have to. "G-Sync Ultimate" on the other hand, is a proprietary Nvidia tech, that needs a G-Sync module in the monitor/TV. Later Nvidia introduced the "G-Sync compatible" program that is based on Adaptive Sync, so the Geforce cards can use vrr with monitors that don't have a module.
    Also one of the biggest reasons for confusion in discussions, is the mixing of the terms vrr and VRR. Variable refresh rate is of course the technology to sync the frames, but also HDMI Forums brand name for the technology when written in upper case -> VRR. So in future, when you read "VRR" always try to find the context and what is really meant, because people mostly dont care about the use of capital and small letters. HDMI Forums VRR works with HDMI (maybe also with Display Port when using an adapter, not sure right now). Freesync works with HDMI and Display Port. G-Sync works with Display Port, not sure about HDMI and which version, but they could have added the support already since i checked last time.
    Hope that helps a bit.

    Amok, why don’t you use PC mode in your home dashboard HDMI for PS5 and Xbox? It gives you full 4:4:4 chroma!

    • @Elrebrion1
      @Elrebrion1 2 года назад +1

      The PS5 currently only supports 32Gbps instead of the possible 48Gbps of HDMI 2.1, so 4k 120hz does not work with 4:4:4 chroma.
      4K @120Hz 10-bit 4:4:4 requires 40.09 Gbps (uncompressed) at HDMI 2.1.
      If so it would only work at 60hz. You don't see such a big difference with 4:4:4 chroma compared to 4:2:2, because the color space is also limited with 4:4:4. RGB 10bit would be better, there the color space is not limited and you get a cleaner picture.

    now I have a PHILIPS 43PUS7608 vs Samsung QE43Q60CAU (or dau) issue and I don't know if the philips tv can do 120hz being priced 1032 ron vs 1769ron the samsung in my country......anyway what would you take between the two ???.....only for cable tv.....I keep it as my televizor instead of old 2k lg (200hz).......or with what other philips/sony tv would you compare samsung q60 ???....they are on the less expensive side of the wallet....THX!.....

      HDMI 2.1 VRR is not Freesync, it is a new standard in HDMI 2.1 (but some older HDMI 2.0 TV already had it) and not compatible with Freesync, even they practially do the same. Xbox can just do both. The HDMI 2.0 chip in the C9 can actually do Freesync with EDID change in addition to HDMI VRR, but the HDMI 2.1 bridge chip can't. You can toggle it with EDID change but it doesn't work for HDMI 2.1.

      Any game with an unlocked framerate or a target 60fps framerate runs at locked 60fps on PS5. All the games you listed are locked 60fps on PS5 and you don't need VRR. In truth a game "needing" VRR is not a good thing, it means that the game doesn't run at the target 60fps or 120fps. VRR is a only useful if the game doesn't run at 60fps or 120fps.

      Ps4 pro version of Elden Ring is the only version of the game that runs 60fps locked. AC games all run 60fps, Monster Hunter World also runs 60fps, Ys also runs 60fps. No need to cover all the way down to 40fps with VRR because most games never dip that low and those that do (Elden Ring) are so bad performance wise that it doesn't make sense to run the ps5 version, you would use the Ps4 version instead where the framerateis locked. All PS4 games with a 60fps mode are locked 60, only PS5 versions of games dip below 60fps and almost never if the game is properly optimized for PS5 (Ratchet and Clank, TLOU1 remake, Uncharted collection, and Demon Souls). As far as the YU422 issue, on my LG C1 it only whichs to that if you are in 120fps mode, but the series X does the same thing in 120fps mode, for basic 4k 60fps you should be getting 4:4:4 RGB.

    I have a pc with a Radeon 6800 XT and even if you enable Freesync Premium on the LG C1 in the Radeon Software it shows it as VRR. I think it may have something to do with HDMI 2.1
    I have a 240hz 1080p monitor with Freesync and when connected via Display Port in the driver it shows it as Freesync Premium pro and on my other 1440p G-Sync/Freesync monitor it shows it as VRR as well. I have done some testing and from what I can see there is no difference whether the driver treats the display as VRR or Freesync. It's pretty much the same thing from what I've seen.
