Sounds like Greed from Full Metal Alchemist. I was thinking something kinda similar, but then again I tend to be predictable, you tell me A creature can only be good and I'll think about corrupting it. I hear about the great Demon lords and I imagine one who is actually sorta benevolent.

One of the things I heard about blue dragons is they may not specifically care about destroying you, but they do care about having the power to do so if they wish and that you know the reason you live is that they allow it.

MrLung1991 This is true, just much more difficult to deal with red dragon. I actually went on a few quests for a green dragon, until he decided our gifts were an insult. 2:45 That hole in the in front of the eye in the skull isn't the "nostrils" of the dragon but a antorbital fenestra, basically a large sinus cavity. The hole that you point to at 3:04 would be the dragon's actual "nose hole", not a hole left by removing it's horn. A horn as large as the one possessed by a blue dragon would leave some underlying bony structure regardless of flesh removal.
In short, what you have there is probably not a picture of a blue dracolich, more likely a green, or if it is a blue the artist severely flubbed their draconic anatomy lesson.

@@julierose689 If you like manipulative little bastards, the one you should love is the Green Dragon. Those guys are described in the MM as suave, cunning, and manipulative, preferring to collect people over an actual hoard. It wouldn't be unlikely to encounter one with a very loyal High Elven butler and a Halfling bard to sing his praises, or even to have the green dragon serve as a kind of patron to a party of adventurers, all with the explicit purpose of slowly corrupting them as they do his bidding. One of my (I think) best ideas for a dragon-themed campaign begins with an ancient Green Dragon tracking down the party, confronting them, and offering his help in slaying a black dragon who settled nearby--the only alternative being him killing them all and finding someone else.

While finding a way to return to her true form is her end goal, she has grown to love certain human foods (kinda like that scene where Wonder Woman tries ice-cream for the first time) and has adopted many cat and dogs. Normal blue dragons would see her as very strange, because she can go from, "I will kill your whole tribe and make you watch," to "Oh my gosh, look at this cute puppyyyyy!" fairly quickly. I remember being astounded by the brilliant tactics and siege methods of the blue dragons in the monster manual, and this video just gives them a whole new depth even beyond that. I may have to look for a copy of the Draconomicon for this kind of lore. I still want to add a blue dragon to a campaign who turns out to be a kind of protector and overlord over the desert, a selfish ruler but completely fair to those who don't upset him, and obsessed with maintaining a kind of social network with the desert peoples, including granting gifts of sorcerous magic to a band of zealous humanoid followers. Overall, not a bad guy, as long as you don't get on his bad side. Just as a way to shake up some older players at my table who automatically assume all colored dragons are evil.
Can't wait for the episode on the Green Dragon though. These are the ones I personally find most interesting with their described penchant for collecting and corrupting humanoid servants, not just to dominate them, but to make them serve willingly.

I love your deep dives and lore videos as they give me so much more than I’d ever find on my own as new to DMing. I’m really looking forward to a video focusing on the brass dragons as I was recently inspired to have my bard/warlock’s patron be a brass dragon mascaraeding as devilish pitfiend (who is pretending to be a shop owner. It’s in my back pocket for the future when his neutral character wants to be good but thinks he’s made a huge mistake taking a single level of warlock, but behold his patron isn’t a devil after all, it’s a brass dragon that reversed a corrupted hex blade to keep him from an evil path while also getting constant conversation from a human they find extremely interesting. Keep it up and I look forward to your next dragon video!

Just have an encounter that is a blue dragon giving another blue dragon a gift to personify them a bit. If they decide to talk to them the two dragons will say something about asking for the main dragon of the area for his approval and that they both are so happy
Edit: maybe have the party run into them again and if they talk they will say that the main dragon didn’t approve so they left

One thing I've never understood, or cared for, about blue dragons is how there is an entire aspect to them nobody talks about. Not even this deep dive video. Specifically; they favor rocky coastlines as well as deserts. It doesn't say that in any book I've found lately, but I distinctly remember reading long ago (possibly in a section about a DIFFERENT dragon entirely), that they sometimes come into conflict with other creatures over costal territories. This is because the sound of waves crashing against rocks reminds them of thunder, and they find it comforting. Don't believe me? The ONE reference to this I've been able to find in a long time is in the Dungeon Master's Guide for 5e, specifically the section of tables for monster types by environment. Blue dragons appear not only on the desert table, but also the coast table.

I'd love for a future DnD edition to redesign dragons to be more fitting for their characteristics. Say for instance, blue dragons having larger wings and maybe smoother, more aerodynamic, or more avian features to cement them as the best flyers, or maybe bronze dragons, being the most adept swimmers, to have the manta ray style of wings that gold dragons do.

We had an encounter with a blue dragon. It was pretty scary, that beast was very aggressive indeed. The beast chased us and it was seemingly inevitable. Till some expert poachers caught him alive. Them poachers are just very mean, that they even attacked us. They weren't just poachers, they were conquerors, murderers, notorious criminals. That even me and my fellow adventurers sorta feel sorry for the Blue Dragon that attacked us will be dead meat for them criminals. So the party and I did something highly unusual. Rescue the Dragon. It was hard, me and the adventurers are evenly matched with them notorious gang, but their numerosity was too great. They even recruited giants. But one of our members did sneak in first and freed the Dragon. So the Blue Dragon attacked our enemies and many died while the rest, retreated. Now they're powerless and resourceless. The Blue Dragon spoke to us and even told us that he'll spare us this time and he left.

I recently ran HotDQ and I enjoyed what they did with Lennithon in the Greennest encounter. He didn't so much "get bored" he simply didn't feel like dealing with a group of adventurers. In particular, it made sense to me because this Greennest sack wasn't his idea, he's just following orders, so he REALLY didn't feel like putting himself at risk for the benefit of someone else.

I did make a character named Sivilith who is a Lawful Neutral/Good Blue Dragon, while she dislikes intruders entering her lair or territory, she allows them to explain and will give them a chance to leave her territory if what they offer her is not good enough, like she doesn’t want to kill, but will if provoked or insulted. Her best friend was a Dragonborn named Dracuus who saved and helped her force a Red Dragon named Blelondru to flee from her territory when the Red tried to kill her for her golden treasures. Unfortunately Dracuus was killed by an Ash Giant, and when word got out, she did mourn, but before his death he gave her a priceless Sapphire that she treasures as a sign of his friendship and an unknown artifact that she vows to give to Dracuus’s son Draxiros and protect it from other travelers who try to steal it

But while watching this episode, I thought that it might also be interesting to hear you talk about different D&D-adventures or even entire campagnes. Blues are Earth because when Lightning strikes.....it actually goes from the ground up (when cloud to ground) to the sky. Plus they like bury themselves in the sand/earth to hide for ambush.
Bronzes are Water because they love living on costal areas and love to swim....plus they can breath under water.

In my home game I have a large expanse of desert which was mostly unoccupied aside from a large city in the centre which used magic for basic needs like food and water.
I had the city be cloaked by many wizards so that the city would be hidden from the blue dragons which flew overhead.
The desert has regions where the dragons Lair effects are at work so many local stories of sand spirits and desert storms were made with a beware the glasslands mentality throughout the kingdom.
Personally my favourite location I've ever designed.

With Blues depicted here being so adamantly monogamous, or at least serial monogamous, it brings up an interesting thought as to how the half-dragons or draconic lineage may form. Someone with blue dragon lineage may legitimately love their forebear, or ancestry, and defend it even if their lineage rose from a great tyrant of the wastes; simply because the forebear would have shown utmost love and care to them. I could easily see a blue half-dragon/dragon lineage individual living in a form of blissful ignorance to whatever ails such beings brought. Would make some interesting character development.
At the same time, does this mean if a blue dragon falls for a mortal race do they stay with that mortal for the rest of their life? If so, that would also make for some interesting NPC interactions. Then again, I absolutely love moral ambiguity as a concept because it can't be used enough and needs to be the standard.
((I heavily, heavily dislike morality as something inherent because it sets a horrible, HORRIBLE precedent for real life.))
