Ravenloft also has a couple of incredibly rare lycanthrope breeds aside from some mentioned already (raven, bat, and I think seawolf): the werebadger and the wereray. There is only one noteworthy werebadger I know of - in Sithicus. Azrael was Lord Soth's seneschal who betrayed him in the Hour of Screaming Shadows. The wererays are, obviously, limited to coastal areas, I believe usually encountered along the western coast of the Core Domains (Lamordia, Dementlieu, Invidia, etc.). The old AD&D 2nd Edition Van Richten's Guides (I recommend getting the anthologies if possible) provide a ton of excellent information on lycanthropes (as well as vampires, ghosts, hags, fiends, golems, and even the Vistani) if you want to learn more about the "gothic horror" monsters of D&D. You might not understand the mechanics if you don't know how 2E works, but there's a lot of helpful information given in the "descriptors" alone, much like how Mr. Rhexx talks about these creatures without really going into gamespeak. It's actually one of the many reasons I love this channel. :) And nice mention of the gem dragons. I never really had the chance to use them as a DM despite finding them fascinating, but I did get to play a Crystal Dragon very briefly in a Council of Worms game - basically a one-session game that just didn't continue. :) Sorry about the infodump. Just wanted to add to those already mentioned. :)
LordSephleon I've been hunting Van Richten's guides (printed versions) for years. When ever I come across a copy on the internet, I don't have the funds to buy it. I'll have to settle with pdf for now.
Admittedly, they are much harder to find now. I made sure to get them all about 10+ years ago, but I had to have a friend who lived on the other side of the state from me keep a lookout for them in small book shops whenever he happened to pass them (he used to drive a lot for his job at the time). He actually managed to find a lot of Ravenloft stuff in an old bookshop somewhere and got them, so I lucked out (though much of it were adventurers, he did get a few guides in there too, and even found the third anthology). Only a few of the individual guides and one of the anthologies (the very first one, which I bought when it first came out) were technically "new" when I got them. Nobleknight.com has a copy of the anthology books 1 and 2 (though they're about twice the normal price at about $50 each, so totally understandable for not jumping at that option). If I happen upon any good deals/copies, I'll try to remember to send you the info. I know it's not much coming from some random person in RUclips comments, but I do enjoy spreading the awesomeness of Ravenloft, and I DID have someone help me complete my own collection, so it's only fair to pass that on. :)
"Doppelgängers" is a general term to describe anyone's double, metaphorically or what not. The monster spelled non-Germantically "doppelganger", the D&D / AD&D monster, the shape-shifting creature that can assume any humanoid form, that is open for lore. Did I make you giggle, moan, groan, laugh, roll your eyes or give me the finger? ;)
hey MrRhexx, love the DnD pivot on your channel. never had the chance to play myself so I'm loving this. I've heard you mention the wish spell in a fair few of your videos, from allowing a hero to time travel to restoring the soul, Could you explain the wish spell and the extents of its power?
The wish spell has some standard effects explained in its description, such as ressurecting, removing extremely powerful afflictions or curses, instant teleportation or (more boringly) duplicating a lower level spell. The interesting stuff happens when it's used as a narrative tool, since is pretty much a deal between player and Game Master that can be used to do/undo pretty much everything that the players could imagine and GM allows, making it the strongest magic available. It's pretty much the only spell that can be used to completely change everything in a campain... For example, Dragons being troublesome? Just wish for all of them to die. So, when I say it's a deal between player and GM it means that every absurd campain breaking wish could be granted, or at least negotiated between them to achieve a satisfactory result. Maybe the Dragons don't die but are severelly weakened. Or maybe they actually straight up die, and now you have dragon deities plus whatever other deities that dislike genocides going after your group. Maybe the wish is corrupted and instead of all dragons, just the good dragons die. Maybe the wish is stopped midway by *instert plot relevant thing here* and now your group is public enemy number one to every dragon regardless of allignment. So yea, with wish only imagination and GM persuation are the limits.
It's really up to the DM. It does have some standard things you COULD wish for, but you could just wish for anything, and the DM determines if its valid and how it comes to light.
Well, in D&D, spells are levelled in power. It is the highest level of power of a spel: one that very few would be able to ever wield. The setting and DM mostly would decide the lore on it and how magic works in the world; whether magic is this everpresent force that can be channeled or whether it is to do with a god(s)/godess(es): e.g. Corellon, god of Magic and the Arts, or whether it is related to another plane, etc.. The DM can choose to pose limitations, and there is a part in the text which means that once you cast it, there is a third of a chance you may never cast it again. The Wish Spell is generally just the techical name they give for a wish in some cases: e.g. Genie (variant)s have the ability to allow a person to cast the Wish Spell. I'm not completely sure on the lore of settings, some like Greyhawk, Dragonlance, Eberron, etc. may have explained it in their own way.
I know a lot of times the wish spell gets brought up as the only way to undo something really bad, making the wish spell seem overpowered, but you have to keep in mind that unless the wish spell is used to cast other spells of 8th level or lower, any other purpose you use it for has a 33% chance to make you unable to use the spell ever again after casting. So it's important to use the wish spell wisely for things such as bringing the dead back to life or reclaiming lost items since you may permanently lose the spell as a result.
I guess that you are using 5E as source. In 3-3.5 their spikes and physique meant that they did damage as they were a size bigger and the soul stealing was energy drain, with more several negative levels impossed with each in the older age categories. What makes this ability so fearsome is that it happens automatically with each successful bite, no waiting time has happens with breath attacks. Due to that a Fang Dragon with protection spells agains elements is a very serious threat for other dragons.
A Dragonborn sub-race that has a fang dragon ancestry would be cool. Replace the shitty breath weapon with the Powerful Build trait and the bonus to charisma with a one in constitution and there you go. You have a buff dragon humanoid who can lift and throw a cart at his enemies.

The weakness you feel after being bitten by a fang dragon (36' of giant bitey happiness) is called "blood loss". It's hard to feel your best when your legs are off. ;)
These dragons are absolute terrors in melee, with a constitution draining bite (2d4), and oversized and serrated ( keen edged) natural weaponry, and very high Armor class, magic resistance and saves. No breath weapon, and lower powered spellcasting than other dragons.
these dragon s gave me an idea of a story. imagine having a character looking for a fanged dragon in attempt to bring back his friend's soul by using that ritual.

I am probably in the minority, but I rather like the change made to Fang dragons in 4th edition. They, together with the Sand (brown) and Deep (purple) dragons were adopted into the Chromatic dragons by Tiamat, and those of the Fang/Grey dragons who swore loyalty to the Queen of Dragons were granted a corrosive breath weapon. Said Tiamat loyalists then proceeded to start hunting the non-loyal Fangs. They are a great help to my DnD campaign and make things infinitely more interesting as I can incorporate them into things very easily. Like the astral dragon that I'd have never known about but fits perfectly for a spot i've been trying to get filled. All that to say keep up the awesome stuff and I look forward to the next video.
I never played any D and D and never been interested in it (just love fantasy in general). But damn it, I love your performance and your speech style. You made me fascinated from this creatures. Awesome vids, keep up!
In my campaigns, Fang Dragons are truly, deeply feared by magic heavy parties. I lowered their magic using abilities a touch to show a mere hobby level and tactical interest, gave them a more tactical mind without reducing ferocity and gave them an improved fighting skill like some dragons improve upon their innate magical ability. I made them less of dragon brawling berzerkers and more dragon real warriors. My Fang Dragons are worth a little more experience points to defeat but they are respected as peers by other dragons, even feared, as a comparison. Fang Dragons of my type never resort to lair advantages. They are too proud for such tricks. They are advantaged in their home territories though.
this video would lead into divine magics/resurection lore in dnd.very well. imo you should cover the scary things that make it to where only true res. and wish spells can revive you. like wraiths and necromancies.
Sounds like the dragon's magic is used to further enhanced their physical characteristics. Instead of being able to direct it outwards, it's all inwards. Are there any good Fang Dragons? x3
I remember in one of the compendium's for 3rd or 3.5 edition that the Fang Dragon was depicted without wings and the bite permanently lower your Constitution.
1:10 is that Tiamat? and its heads are those of the red dragon, the black dragon, the white dragon, the green dragon and ... a ... dragon that I don't know (actually).
I disagree on several of your points. like the point about his bite being magical in nature. but shout outs to making video on fang dragon. they dont really get much attention, and i always like them.

I never played any D and D and never been interested in it (just love fantasy in general). But damn it, I love your performance and your speech style. You made me fascinated from this creatures. Awesome vids, keep up!
How about a video on thri-kreen and their society? I always loved bugs as a kid and they have always been a little bit of a wonder to me.
I'm pretty interested in Kuo-toa , Thri-kreen, formians, and Yuan-ti. If you ever get a chance to make a video on them.
I am so happy that you did this!!!!! Thank you sooo much!!!
dragons!! Bahamut & tiamat please!!
New fav dragon
I once read the fang dragons blades are also vorpal, if homebrew, it's still a cool added danger
I Really appreciate your work and effort. Thank you bro'!
So just for fun, what about you for the next D&D lore tage your favorite Psionic Creature!? =)
this video would lead into divine magics/resurection lore in dnd.very well. imo you should cover the scary things that make it to where only true res. and wish spells can revive you. like wraiths and necromancies.
Sounds like the dragon's magic is used to further enhanced their physical characteristics. Instead of being able to direct it outwards, it's all inwards. Are there any good Fang Dragons? x3
Another cool video! I'd love to see some green dragon lore~
I remember in one of the compendium's for 3rd or 3.5 edition that the Fang Dragon was depicted without wings and the bite permanently lower your Constitution.
you should do a video on the old gods of d&d
These are the chads of the dragon family
is next topic Mind flayers?
i enjoy all your video MrRhexx
your lore videos a really good.... I mean... REALLY GOOD
Please make a lore video on Dragon Turtles. I like your videos very much and it would be great if you could tell us more about these monsters. Thanks!
4:50 or blood, for the fang dragon it could be your soul but for vampires it’s blood.
Love your videos! Can you do the Yuan Ti?
1:10 is that Tiamat?
and its heads are those of the red dragon, the black dragon, the white dragon, the green dragon and ... a ... dragon that I don't know (actually).
Great episode, maybe you can change things up and do an episode based in a Location/Organization/Civilization
I wonder when they'll include Fang Dragons in 5e. Also what's a Grey Dragon's breath weapon?
0:43
Grey dragon = fang dragon.
So my type of Dragon.
*nice*
Is there a lore video on fairy dragons? I'd love to learn more about them!
These videos are SO GOOD!
Awesome vlog...can you do a vlog about Tiamat?
love the videos i was just wondering about that book at 6:48 it looks very interesting what is it called ? or what are those pages (weapons from)
That's the Dungeon Master's Guide, the section outlining magical items.
solid thanks my dude
I disagree on several of your points. like the point about his bite being magical in nature. but shout outs to making video on fang dragon. they dont really get much attention, and i always like them.
Really enjoying this DnD series, keep up the good work. I'd sniff this content up like cocaine if it was possible.
Wondering if he’ll see this and do lore on Tiamat!
Any thoughts on a lore video on Celestial Dragons?
The chad dragon.
