Concerning Tiamat and deities in general: Most deities in D&D, when encountered as enemies by PCs are merely avatars of the being, unless it's considered a lesser kind of a hero deity or something similar. In their own realm, like Tiamat's lair in Avernus, a deity is virtually unassailable. They could disintegrate any being entering their lair with but a gaze and ZAP! your character is gone. Of course some McGuffin certainly could bend the rules or so on....

They can still respawn, but according to 5e monster manual, they can’t use imprisonment to send souls to their phylactery if they’re on a different dimension, potentially becoming a demiliich after a few months. I mean, it is worse than the rest of them, in one way. 5e doesn't mention, but it *will never stay dead.* Sure, maybe the monsters on this list could easily kill the Tarrasque once, twice, even a thousand times. CR isn't a super accurate system, and the Tarrasque's ridiculous resistance to magic would make it harder than it looks, but it is totally reasnoble to accept that premise. The Tarrasque only has to get lucky once. Hell, it doesn't have to get lucky *at all.* Dragons can live for a *very* long time, but not forever. Not even dracoliches do, their bones will eventually wear down and rot, as we see from demiliches.

Single strongest named character... MrRhexx, omniscient loremaster. He knows it all, and knows every outcome, selecting only the ones he finds to be to his liking.

@Riley Pace knowledge is power. But even smart individuals know there are some things in this world you just can’t prepare or fight. Cuz if they were both dropped into a pit and had to fight he could not fight forever. Please note these is a spell called foresight that also lets u see into the future and getting hit is still possible.
You see, this is the thing I tend to get a bit bend out of shape about in DnD. A lot of "antagonists" of the settings or even some heroes tend to have more playspace than players themselves. I get the idea is Roleplay but part of it is roleplaying other aspects other than "I swing swords. I cast spell". Players rarely get a chance or setting to make proper monuments to their achievements, they aren't allowed to create their own items or even have their own place in the world. I get it for simple campaigns such as tomb of annihilation or storm king's thunder but the lack of rules or allowance to let players do their thing is just sad at times. I would like there to be things such as being able to make your own spells and items proper...not so obscenely difficult to the point it isn't possible. Then again I am weird in that regard, I have a love for the concept of a campaign where there is no ultimate goal set before the players but more just an open world frolick into various places where the adventures just happen. I mean ofcourse the DM would have to drop some reasons for them to happen but still...something in me hungers for a world where you can at some point look back and go "I made my mark"
You are not strange in that regard as I love it whenever a player asks me as a DM if what a character desires to do to leave their mark on my homebrew world with the only real impediment I put in the way is no worse than what any normal adventurer would face albeit in a far more self-directed fashion.
What you are describing? is dungeons and Dragons. Its not a fault of the a system, but I think of the GM's you've played under. Or the pre-written campaign source books. Any D&D game can have everything you've described and a lot of them do to some degree or another. I think the main issue you bring up is the lack of any clear rules for spell creation or magic item creation. However a GM with the time to do so, can homebrew their own mechanics into the game for it, and i think that might have been the point of not setting the rules in stone in a book on how to accomplish that. My advice? Run your own game and find some players who want to have the type of game you envision. Or keep searching for a GM who runs things that way yourself. Best of luck and good journeys!
that's actually a really good question. kinda hard to say since overlord follows more generic mmo mechanics more than it follows pure dnd rules. depends on how well the games graph onto each other and how they scale. in Ainz's world he's a Lv100 PC with access to 700+ spells a hoard of magical items and his own guild and army. TECHNICALLY being a Lv100 player should put him far beyond the hopes of anything in dnd that isn't an actual god, BUT Lvl20 characters and CR20+ creatures can be capable of some really crazy and sometimes reality bending shet; depending on the scope and scale of the campaign. so what do 100 lvls on a single entity mean to the forgotten realms?
Thank you for covering 3.5 and older material. You really help me out since i prefer playing 3.5 than 5e. You're one of the few who talk about it in a way i understand it. Plus the lore coverage is way more in depth than any others.
When you said he was looking for a way to procreate to pass on his OP powers, I was like: "So is this where we get the legendary purple dragon that's able to wield multiple elements?"
Whoa neat stuff. I made a "Drow" Changeling character recently and I was contemplating on whether or not to level up into Draconic Sorcerer, or Abberant Mind. This Drow Shadow Dragon lore really makes me lean Draconic, and I was theorizing how the background would be anti-Lolith in nature as a secretive assassin character with the Faction Agent background.
Orcus doesnt have control over the souls of liches who still have intact phylacteries, and there are some liches who manage to become liches without making any pacts with other beings. The soul of any lich is contained in their phylactery, and if the lich pledged their soul to Orcus, then Orcus would only gain posession of the soul once the phylactery was destroyed, and the lich permanently killed.
Assuming he made a pact with Orcus, he'd have to kill Orcus so his soul couldn't be claimed when his phylactery was broken and use some kind of contingency resurrection shenanigan to ressurect himself with his soul in a living body. Then he's mortal again and vulnerable. Talk about a risky play.
Well..if he were to do that he would give up his intelligence and most of his arcane knowledge. Young dragons are incapable of casting polymorph and other spells, even ancient dragons can’t. He acquired his spells through study and not organically. An excerpt from polymorph reads: “The transformation lasts for the duration, or until the target drops to 0 hit points or dies. The new form can be any beast whose challenge rating is equal to or less than the target's (or the target's level, if it doesn't have a challenge rating). The target's game statistics, including mental ability scores, are replaced by the statistics of the chosen beast. It retains its alignment and personality.”
He's better off trying to become a deity. In other words, pull a Vecna but create a new body that isn't undead at the same time and try to woo Tiamat or another female chromatic dragon. Yet even if mating with Tiamat does produce his ideal offspring he'll need to convince Tiamat that letting these offspring live could help her achieve her goal. Yet at the same time he'll need to stay in Mystra's good graces.
Mystra was actually good aligned for a time between 2nd and 4th edition, as her portfolio was inherited by a good aligned mortal wizard after the original Mystra was killed. This Mystra though tried to restrict evil casters from using the weave and that lead to her being killed by Shar and Cyric. As of 5e, the newest version of Mystra is back to being neutral.
I would definitely play a game that would involve a future where Daurgothoth succeeds in both of his quests, becoming the ultimate dragon with all spells able to be used as a breath weapon, having all breath weapons, and he has made a race that has inherited all these abilities. That sounds like it would be an epic campaign to play!!!
Dragon Magazine #359 - Time Dragon - CR 90. If I remember right, it had a light attachment to Faerun in its description. If you'd be interested in doing more on dragons, there's still the Song, Steel, and Fang dragons (also located in FR) and the Orange, Purple, and Yellow dragons from the Dragon Compendium Vol. 1 (there was never a Vol. 2, you can find the pdf on the internet sometime.s)
I imagine FR having a major power with motivation "wants to bone again" just fits. Has he tried talking to Tiamat? She might be into extra-powerful dragons to take over the multiverse. Also, wouldn't one need to spelljam to get to Greyhawk to even know of Mordenkainen's disjunction?
Yeah I figure he would eventually realize that by becoming a deity he could produce offspring and considering that Tiamat has heads of each chromatic color and he could breathe the breath attack of each color it would make sense for the two of them to combine forces.
I love how you talked about how CR is bad way to measure power at the beginning. A flat number to measure power wouldn't take into account rock paper scissors scenarios, for instance. Great video as always!

If I believe correctly, any CR over 30 for E5 is reduced to maximum 30 Which would mean that most of these should be around the CR range of the new-ish Greatwyrm tier of dragons.
Not exactly: The E3.5e tarrasque was much stronger than E5 tarrasque and yet the E3.5 one had CR20. The reason why in 5E the challenge rating is limited to 30 is not because the CR's value has gone down (in fact it has gone up), but because the strongest monsters simply do not appear in 5E and the Tiamat and Bahamut that we have are mere insignificant avatars of their true being. So hypothetically, if Daurgothoth made a big comeback in 5E and was not nerfed at all, he would be equivalent to a current 5E CR of at least 75, not at all comparable to mere Greatwyrms.
Isn't Iolaum the Oracle of Ellyn'taal stronger than the Creeping Doom and with a higher CR as well? Iolaum is an undead Elder Brain Lich Wizard 31/Archmage 5/Netherese Arcanist 5. A regular Elder Brain was CR 25 in 3.5, plus the undead aspect. That's a minimum of CR 66 for Iolaum.
Jon J. Wizard levels would be considered “unassociated” for an Elder Brain, as their innate spellcasting is Sorcerer (or Telepath, if you use psionics). Since Elder Brains have 26 HD, a more “accurate” CR would be 53 - still overwhelmingly high, yes, but at least marginally less than CR 66.
I've been playing/writing a Drow rebel story since 81 who is at war with Lloth and whose situation is very similar to the jeazred xhaulssin. The stories are eerily similar. The big difference between them is the main character had pact with Amadeus and become a unique greater devil. By keeping his 12/12 assasin magician classes and gaining the powers of a pit fiend... I find that kind of amazing...

I'm so glad that Secens are mentioned in this video. My first homebrew school of magic was based off that group. Short of it was that it was a school that combined enchantment and illusion to make so the thoughts of the victim became reality, the main limits had been that the target needs to be hostile.

There is actually an explanation for the CR 30 Tiamat. I believe in the Rise of Tiamat book, or maybe in the DM guide, there was a part that says something along the lines of "The Nine Hells are Asmodeous' realm, and despite him curbing the dragon queens power, she still plots an escape." Or something like that :P
If you’re interested, the Eberron setting might have something for you. In the sourcebook Dragons of Eberron, true dragons have the option to take a Sovereign Archetype, which replaces the options some dragons have for choosing spells (for example, red dragons can pick spells from the Cleric list, plus a few domains). The relevant Sovereign Archetype would be Passion’s Flame, which gives Perform as a class skill for the dragon and the ability to rage like a barbarian. In addition, the Virtuoso prestige class grants the Inspire Courage bardic music. And since dragons in general tend to have high Charisma and lots of skill points to use on social skills...
Mason Jones Actually... in Eberron, half-dragons are considered abominations. An elf from a dragonmarked house and a green dragon had a child to unite their species... except they united to wipe the house out of existence. That is how House Vol, and it’s Mark of Death, was lost. That is why Erandis Vol is a lich - when she was killed, her mother resurrected her as a lich and had some of her allies flee to Khorvaire. That is how the Blood of Vol and the Emerald Claw came to be.

@Jeffrey Desjardins But the plan worked in the alternative timeline! Only the whole of Krynn was destroyed in the process...
The next video shows that CR60 is enough to defeat any deity in their seat of power.
@@meirwaxman350 Actually not really. CR in 3.5e tends to just break down after a certain level and becomes totally unreliable. That's includes the likes of Cronus or Hecatoncheires

The Tarrasque only has to get lucky once. Hell, it doesn't have to get lucky *at all.* Dragons can live for a *very* long time, but not forever. Not even dracoliches do, their bones will eventually wear down and rot, as we see from demiliches.

ANY limitation you see in D&D is because of the DM, never the game itself. Remember that.
This is why I homebrew! The crafting rules in the DMG are BS!
Sounds like you need to put down the kiddy 5e and pick up 3.5 for creating magic, items, and etc
A demigod of Undeath and Magic?
Makes me wonder how Ainz Oowl Goan would stack up
The one who broke his own game 😂
But what if..they were the same person?
that's actually a really good question. kinda hard to say since overlord follows more generic mmo mechanics more than it follows pure dnd rules. depends on how well the games graph onto each other and how they scale. in Ainz's world he's a Lv100 PC with access to 700+ spells a hoard of magical items and his own guild and army.
Aniz oowl Goal will be boned by this Assholes.
@@Nishom0926 I'm pretty sure Ainz would use him to learn how he could bone Albedo or she would steal the information so she could be boned by Ainz

Couldnt he just go beat up Orcus, take his soul back (cause dracolich) and revive himself? Boom, mate problem solved
I just imagined the Dracolich walking up to the Throne, drawing up on Orcus, and straight up punching him in the face.

Can't he just polymorph into a younger dragon in order to reproduce if he is knowledgeable enough to alter his breath weapon
Well..if he were to do that he would give up his intelligence and most of his arcane knowledge. Young dragons are incapable of casting polymorph and other spells, even ancient dragons can’t. He acquired his spells through study and not organically.
An excerpt from polymorph reads:
“The transformation lasts for the duration, or until the target drops to 0 hit points or dies.

If I believe correctly, any CR over 30 for E5 is reduced to maximum 30
Which would mean that most of these should be around the CR range of the new-ish Greatwyrm tier of dragons.

Daurgothoth seeks to do the one thing Tiamat and Bahamut refused to do. Create the perfect draconic offspring. Life finds a way.
mating with a dragon? This reminds me of an episode of Rick and Morty.
Reminds me of E621
Where do you think Half Dragons come from? www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/fbwoxt/art_half_dragon_player_race_finalized_after/
Welcome, wanderer, into the Sector where light becomes darkness and darkness becomes light... where law becomes chaos and chaos becomes law...
That episode was disgusting
There is actually an explanation for the CR 30 Tiamat. I believe in the Rise of Tiamat book, or maybe in the DM guide, there was a part that says something along the lines of "The Nine Hells are Asmodeous' realm, and despite him curbing the dragon queens power, she still plots an escape." Or something like that :P
We need the ultimate dragon. One with 20 levels of bard.
Well I think we have plenty of Half Dragons as it is... www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/fbwoxt/art_half_dragon_player_race_finalized_after/
If you’re interested, the Eberron setting might have something for you.
@@오주환-b1n oh god.... But at least they won't be lonely
Huh, learn something new every day.
This series has been my favorite of yours so far and that's saying a lot. Love the channel.
Now for monsters of Immortal's Handbook
Have you ever considered leading an online D&D campaign with your fans and/or patrons? I'd give alot to have a playthrough with you as DM. You go more in-depth than anyone I've ever known!
Great video as always, speaking of Mauzzkyl Jaezred, are we getting a What they don't tell you about Shadow/Drow Dragons?
Since I heard of BG3 coming out. I have been brushing and obssessing about the DND world (which I was not that aquainted with aside from all pc DND games I've played). And now I just want to learn about DND through your videos. You make it so awesome ! Thx !

Challenge rating: Yes
Thank you !!! best series so far, was waiting for each episode
Bout to rewatch the video.
I'm curious how Tiamat feels about this guy. Figure a 5 headed chromatic dragon god would be interested in a dracolich trying to attain and surpass all her children
Would she support or hinder this kind of action?
Tiamat hates undead. And also seeing as he follows Mystra instead of Tiamat as a god Tiamat would be pissed
I loved how you used that heroes 3 pic with the bone dragon in 13:47
DM: A dragon appears
Me: Is it wearable tho?
13:39 its from heroes of might and magic 3, a bone dragon wrapping around the necropolis grail
"The single strongest named monster in D&D" 20 min video 😂😂
can you imagine the breath weapon of the dracolich becoming critical hit and being able to mix with other 3 types when the party arrive there to fight him? thats some nice fight
Great video!
I swear, I don't watch ANYONE elses videos all the way to the end... except for MrRhexx lol It's all just too interesting :)
Two Words:
Astral. Dreadnought.
As someone commented on AJ Picket's vid: "TL;DW: Fuck you, chunky salsa TPK, roll new characters."
:::Laughs in Tharzidun:::
Two Words:
CR. 21.
He already mentioned the Dreadnaught in a previous video. This thing is waaaaay stronger
Thank you! This actually helps my campaign allot!
