If white dragons have such a rainbow of personalities, even having a pair bent to someone’s will by kidnapping and threatening to harm their eggs (something regular white dragons would care less). So then maybe white dragons are the best type for those willing to raise a baby dragon (if crystal dragons can, then why not the PCs)
@Emiliano Carrillo compared to crows and mammals their intelligence, the way we understand intelligence, is child's play. The least intelligent animals in the world can be gregarious and hierarchical. They're not social. Social animals organize. Crocs are gregarious. They gather in groups for protection and to easily find mates. Communication is a means to determine mating rights without lethal force, that is all.
A white dragon acting as a tundra guide would be cool. Maybe they were forced into the role by the powerful ex-adventurer town leader nearby. Because of their memories, they would know every landmark based on hunts from the past. "The way is marked by a gray outcropping of stone in the shape of a crescent. @@TheAderwolf In the video it was stated multiple times that white dragons have no concept of fear and will attack stronger entities without second thought.
I'm planning a homebrew based on bringing Tiamat back to power. So my main "hero" is a green dragonborn bringing one of each of the other chromatic dragonborns together. To bring the original dragons back to power. So learning of each chromatic dragon is super helpful!

Like how a lot of humans intrinsically dislike or even fear snakes, spiders, and the dark.
Here's my understanding to try and rationalise it: If a White knows a Silver is in the area, they will try to avoid it, but if they are confronted they WILL fight. Like they avoid a fight if they can, but if a fight is inevitable they WILL fight.

In the silver dragon video, you mentioned white dragons will leave if it sees a silver dragon. But in this video you say that white dragons will fight because it has no concept of planning or fear... I'm confused now.
It will respect size and visible strength, if the strength in question is hidden behind concepts difficult to grasps (for exemple bullets and arrows or a powerful mage that looks old and weak) then it will attack..

White dragons are actually my personal favorite appearance wise closely followed by the green dragon. Lore wise my favorite is either the blue or the bronze dragon thanks to you.
This gave me an idea for a possible bit of backstory for a setting. One race or a tribe lived in a secluded land in the northern parts of the world. At some point in their history they came into contact with white dragons and somehow learned to hunt them for food. As they slowly killed of the dragons in their homeland some of them started moving north and eventually crossed a frozen landbridge to another continent. Due to their reputation as dragonslayers and the fact that they came from seemingly uninhabitable north the locals initially treated them with fearful respect. That allowed the newcomers to establish themselves in the tundra and cold forests of the new land. When the white dragons became scarce and the other variations prooved to be a much more difficult prey, newcomers moved to more traditional game and started to migrate south in search of more fertile lands. This was the beginning of decades (or perhaps even centuries) long conflict with the continent's original inhabitants.
@@brothermutant7370 nope there are others, Bahamut is unique though as he has wings and well a god but other platinum dragons do not, but I suppose Rex will go over that in his Bahamut video that will probably come out sometime
Actually had a dm put me in a scenario of my grunge character lost in the mountains freezing after our BBEG wrecked our ship. Though my grunge was a Druid, I wasn’t adept enough for the frigid cold. Lucky a certain dragon with a corpse riding along came and knew grunge language heard my characters plea and offered shelter as well as a heartfelt talk about what it means to have life long friends. This section of our campaign made everyone teary eyed that even our dm felt it.
My current campaign character, an elven sorcerer initially of Draconic ancestry (some insane ancestor who managed to bath in the blood of a slain red dragon, à la Achilles, cue favouring fire spells when I started) who got Wild Magic by being the collateral damage of a curse by Beshaba (goddess of Misfortune), almost managed to befriend an adult white dragon, but the druid of the group lost her cool (ha) at the end of the negociations and the white dragon didn't enjoy the trick of a herd of deers summoned from the Feywild lol I'm still lowkey salty about it because having a white dragon as a buddy would have been mighty useful for us lol
I had an Idea for a young white dragon who was kind of a miracle. He's intelligent and actually good-natured. He rules over a Viking like town of humans and Half-dragons (His children). And was generally pretty chill, but goes mad under mysterious conditions.
I'm mildly upset you didn't talk about the fact that white draconic blood is a possible sorcerer bloodline, suggesting they don't just mate with *each other*
Love your lore videos. If this is the last main dragon, what's next? More obscure dragons like time or iron, or something else? Personally, I really like the dynamics of telekinetic monsters. For instance, I remember I also loved your mind flayer and aboleth videos so that's sort of where I think it could make a good next topic if you decide to do something besides dragons. But really, I'm down for whatever.
Gem dragons (AKA A true dragon he missed, which are also part of the main group along with metallics and chromatics) are telekinetic dragons, or more specifically, psionic dragons. And they aren't bad fanfic dragons like iron, steel, or obsidian.
Dude, I'll run my first adult dragon today and it'll be with a White Dragon. With this video, you definitely deserve my subscription. Thank you for the lore!
It would have been nice to have seen a shot of the white dragon figure/miniature from The Legend of Drizzt Scenario Pack ((so glad I bought that), and the 3.5E Draconomicon is a great source of info for dragons; I recognized a page or two from that book in this video. Nicely done!
What summed up white dragons for me was actually the sample dragons in 3.5e's Draconomicon. One such entry for a Very Old white dragon - was a white dragon who considered himself a "scholar" for learning to speak common and a "diplomat" for intimidating trespassers out of their loot and other things it wanted. This very old dragon, who I believe the book stated was around 1200 years old, had just learned common and had just learned that intimidating people was far less expenditure of energy/more efficient hunting tactic than the old fashioned way of straight up murdering them. If you're looking for samples on how to roleplay any of the big 10, that book is worth its weight in gold. Frost giants enslaving or "taming" white dragons is a huge consideration to young and even adult white dragons, who consistently have to move on and avoid capture by them in areas where their populations overlap. Some dragons even go so far as to have multiple hoard-caches scattered amidst the wilderness or "roving lairs" like giant icebergs that move with the ocean currents. Between frost giants, behirs, other whites, reds and silvers who populate similar mountainous climes the life of a white dragon is surprisingly complicated. It's a miracle they can survive at all.
@@austindiver9267 no, not in d&d's case, it's a fixed magical inherent nature of the dragon, and the dragon rarely can have it's alignment altered. The closes is making a lawful neutral, and a evil one neutral, EXTREMELY rare cases to make them the complete opposite in case of the player. But in D&D the dm can always make his own lore, or ret-con it if he wants.
seems like the best chance to loot their hoard without having to fight would be to do so while they are hibernating given they are probably in a pretty deep sleep if they are sleeping that long
How did white dragons not go extinct eons ago? They may be described as animalistic hunters but much of the animal kingdom exhibits at least rudimentary forms of the behavior you describe them not having, because no animal would survive that level of not adapting to there surroundings.

This gave me the idea of creating a " _White Dragon Shapeshifter Waifu_ " who just want to eat food, drink and sleep and be a general nuisance to the party.
I'd model it after Aqua from Konosuba. Have it follow the party around in human form mooching off of them and try to take all the credit for everything they do. Like, "we all you only succeeded capturing the bandit leader because I, the Great and Powerful Dragon Smolax, was there to help." while it was actually outside making a snowman out of his frost breath the whole time, or at the tavern serving the coolest, frostiest ale to everyone there (on your tab of course). When the party asks it to do anything just have it say, "You expect me, a mighty dragon of lore and legend, to do common adventuring work?"
First time seeing a vid of yours love D&D and especially it's dragon lore and as you seem to be going through the different varieties I'd love to see the in depth lore of the Radiant Dragon in comparison to the gold.

There's also Arveiaturace, from the Sword Coast, they actually like to talk with people, and are known to snatch people up and hold them for up to a month just for conversation.

What he meant is that Dragon personalities in general differ from member to member.

I'm planning a homebrew based on bringing Tiamat back to power. So my main "hero" is a green dragonborn bringing one of each of the other chromatic dragonborns together. To bring the original dragons back to power. So learning of each chromatic dragon is super helpful!
Are Gem Dragons going to be covered?
I hope so eventually

What bout funky and rare chromatics (Orange, purple...)? these could be really interesting!

Some ancient silver bitchslapped the white dragons so hard it's become genetic memory and instinct.
Jason Dossett
Lol that basically, also if you remember the silver dragon video, the way metallic dragons act in the presence of a chromatic dragon they can kill is absolutely “chilling” and scary AF, so definitely genetic memory. Like how a lot of humans intrinsically dislike or even fear snakes, spiders, and the dark.
Here's my understanding to try and rationalise it:
If a White knows a Silver is in the area, they will try to avoid it, but if they are confronted they WILL fight. Like they avoid a fight if they can, but if a fight is inevitable they WILL fight.
Silver dragons trick other dragons. They are very smart

2nd White Dragon looks like a Blue-Eyes…So many ideas for my next campaign. Thank you MrRheaxx, for everything. In the past 2 yrs watching your videos, I have found many and learned many things. This one gives me the courage and reinforces my imagination to make a campaign that no one has done or seen before… A campaign that is just as real, but not as brightly lit… A Darkside.
My new D&D character is a dragon fanboy and he want to learn all he can about them. So your videos on dragons are really helping him thank you so much.

White dragons are actually my personal favorite appearance wise closely followed by the green dragon. Lore wise my favorite is either the blue or the bronze dragon thanks to you.
Ok, so I guess this is the best dragon for PCs to adopt
Yep white dragons are the only true dragons that can be tamed
Please hit the Steel Dragon at some point!!! They're quite fascinating, well worth your time.

That dope Critical Role fanart of Vox Machina vs Vorugal at 1:46 :D
Only noticed it once it showed Yenk the Goristro
Wow. I'm surprised my father isn't a white dragon.
I had an Idea for a young white dragon who was kind of a miracle. He's intelligent and actually good-natured. He rules over a Viking like town of humans and Half-dragons (His children). And was generally pretty chill, but goes mad under mysterious conditions.
the reason he isn't completely animalistic is that he was raised by humans
White Dragons: OOOOOOHHHHHHHHH SHINYYYY

Feels more like Snow Tiger than a Dragon...
Dumb but deadly.
Seto Kaiba is quaking.

Can upu talk about gem dragons too? Maybe not all types. But just gem dragons in general.

I have been waiting for this one!! have had a white dragon almost encountering my party :D
It would have been nice to have seen a shot of the white dragon figure/miniature from The Legend of Drizzt Scenario Pack ((so glad I bought that), and the 3.5E Draconomicon is a great source of info for dragons; I recognized a page or two from that book in this video. Nicely done!
Dragon Turtle! yes
One thing I have never understood is why Metallic dragons are the good natured ones and the chromatic are the evil aligned ones.
Mr. Karl Hedberg Crab maybe because metal shines? Like good dragons must look more noble.
Because chromatic dragons are descendants of Tiamat, the evil chaotic deity and metalic are from Bahamut, a just, lawful deity
@@Stenly17 and gems are descendents of Sardior, the neutral neutral deity.
*Also you mean good, not just for bahamut.
Alignment of a dragon is often a learned feature and is often merely perspective
I'm so glad you mentioned Arveiaturace, she is actually in my campaign. lol
I can remember exactly how got every single one of these conics, but I can't count em for shit.
seems like the best chance to loot their hoard without having to fight would be to do so while they are hibernating given they are probably in a pretty deep sleep if they are sleeping that long
I find the idea of this majestic creature being dumb as a rock to be hilarious to imagine
Find the extended dragon lists too.
Crystalline Dragons, Outer Space Dragons, Primal Elemental Dragons... etc.
How did white dragons not go extinct eons ago? They may be described as animalistic hunters but much of the animal kingdom exhibits at least rudimentary forms of the behavior you describe them not having, because no animal would survive that level of not adapting to there surroundings.
Overwhelming brute force
I love your content, and your voice helps me relax, I listen to your videos to help me unwind and get to sleep. And I love the information in your videos
This gave me the idea of creating a " _White Dragon Shapeshifter Waifu_ " who just want to eat food, drink and sleep and be a general nuisance to the party.
Your tab is 100 gp on account of your friend, there, eating EVERY piece of livestock in the area.
Sounds good. Pretty much all the Chromatic dragons would be great for waifu anime/manga. Each dragon is different.
