All of Vessel's songs are love songs. In the mythos, he is worshiping an ancient deity called Sleep. In reality, he is singing about a failed relationship with someone who nearly destroyed him and who he nearly destroyed in turn. All of his songs are about him and her.
Post-genre is a cool concept, though it feels more like a blend of many genres -- maybe poly-genre? Sleep Token can still be categorized within established genres like metal (various), prog, alt, pop, R&B, funk, rap, etc... True post-genre, in my humble opinion, would transcend these labels, breaking the mould of how we classify and perceive sound itself. Maybe that's too sci-fi (for now).
The "red in the blue" part isn't something you would immediately pick up on unless you think of Vessel essentially referencing mood ring colors. To say he has "a blood trail, red in the blue", he means he is actively pursuing this girl with intense love and passion amidst being sad she isn't his girl yet after "shooting his shot".
Oh, I thought it was referencing how blood is commonly referred to as red blood (oxygen rich) and blue blood (oxygen depleted), that takes place while breathing
@julialeslie692 To take further- historically, blue blood denotes royalty, while red is common. "I've got a blood trail, red into blue" brings to mind his revenge. She has a higher status than him, divinity. So the blood is red where they exchanged blows, but he's following the blood trail towards it's noble source.....damn, I'm high. Have a good day.
"A blood trail purged in blue" is a military term. The song isn't about one person, as far as I can tell. It sounds more like a song to escape his past. He's talking about people that he can longer talk to, and he hopes to see them one day. I'm not going to get into beliefs, etc.
When he said "bro stop begging" i burst into laugher. He's not begging, he's praying. He's praying to the Goddess "Sleep" of which he is a self proclaimed cleric of. The entire "purpose" of Sleep Token is to spread the word of the primordial goddess "Sleep." Every time I watch one of this guys videos (love the videos, huge fan) and I hear him say "he's talking about -this person-" Vessel is talking about his goddess, Sleep.
I've always interpreted the lyrics the other way around. HE is the one being summoned. "You've got my body, flesh and bone" - The empty "Vessel" (Lol) into which his spirit can be conjured forth. "Take me past the edge, I want to see the other side" - literally the place he is being summoned to. This could be alluding to an old relationship in a lot of ways:; someone who has grown apart from in the time that has passed, to the point that they are figuratively "worlds apart", yet she still has the means to pull him back in, even if only briefly.
It’s way deeper than that man. But the girl who this is based off of in real life is still alive. It’s dead relationship he’s singing to. All three albums are one trilogy outlining his journey through life after this relationship ended.
In an interview, Vessel claimed (allegedly) that he met the deity/concept/god/whatever, "Sleep" in a dream. I have interpreted all of these "Relationships" as a connection between Vessel and this supposed "Deity" know as "Sleep." This theory has transformed their music for me. This also adds so much meaning to the lyrics "Half Algorithm, Half Deity. Glitches in the Code or Gaps in a Strange Dream" From Ascensionism.
Crazy you haven’t gotten to the summoning until now, I feel like it’s the song that blew them up this January, thanks for the reaction bro, love your videos
I am a female and to me, without being too graphic, this song is totally about sex. The first few lines set up that stage for me “I’ve got a river running right into you. I’ve got a blood trail red in the blue” (I think the first part has a very clear meaning and to me the second part means red blood into blue veins- I think you can grasp what I’m saying😆)
Hard to recommend a song as the entire album is incredible, but you could check out The Rain or Alkaline (this was their biggest song from a previous album)
Music is meant to be interpreted by the listener. We could all come up with different reasons behind what the lyrics mean. Doesn't mean someone is wrong just means they felt something different
Its funny you mention Lorna Shore, their frontman Will Ramos said it himself that Sleep Token is his all time favorite band.
He is there biggest fan 😂❤
And every time someone mentions this band in front of him it's like telling a puppy with zoomies it's time to go for a walk lmaoooo

Bloodsport and The Love You Want are perfect examples of your comment.
Ironically this song summoned millions of new fans overnight
Rightfully so
I think Vessel knew *_exactly_* what he was doing lmao
7:18 “..oh??” And the stank face was my exact reaction first time I heard it 😂
Sleep Token is what I call post genre music, they cannot be limited to one genre. Worship!
"Post genre music". I really like that.

It's the switch-up from stank face to grin and back again as the euphoria sets in from the ride Vessel takes us all on.
Man said "there were like 4 switch ups" before the biggest switch up.

I thought this as well, or literally the red "in" the blue like blood flowing through veins? @@julialeslie692

Have a good day.
"This is the heaviest I've ever heard...from them" .....wait until you get to "Vore" off the same album 😂😂😂😂
Vore isn't heavier. Maybe if you gauge heaviness by screaming, but this is far heavier musically.
@13lueBerryBluntz Just mean vocally, yes the guitar and bass is heavier in the Summoning.
*Take me Back to Eden has entered the chat*
There's Vore and Gods
First song i heard by them. Instantly hooked.
He whole album is a masterpiece
What an amazing band ❤
Ren and Sleep Token are my artists of 2023 by far, both amazing
Take me back to Eden is them at their best.
Definitely check out one of their earlier singles "Jaws" - came out before their first album Sundowning.

“red in the blue”
4:32 What song would Ronnie FIR and Vessel Sleep Token make?
My ears wishing
That audio be peaking
Thought my phone speakers were biting the dust lol
I had to boot up spotify to make sure it wasn't my audio interface acting up LOL
@@Fenthule bro i did the exact same thing lmao, i hope it wasn't as ass on his end
Yep. Opened Spotify too lmao
I noticed it immediately too

Subscribed bro! 100k lets go! You feel it though. Great breakdown!
Yes already summoned iam here already taken back been waiting forever 💎

She's dead dude. He's singing to a lost love on every single track.
He only sees her as a goddess in his dreams now, hence Sleep.

@@codysmith6617As well as what caused the relationship to end

"guys really quickly" wow that was really quick actually
I see you feeling some of it 🤣 that guitar solo and Outro.
Crazy you haven’t gotten to the summoning until now, I feel like it’s the song that blew them up this January, thanks for the reaction bro, love your videos
Definitely one of the best reactions to this song. It's a Rollercoaster.
DUDE! We need a reaction to their song Take Me Back To Eden!
Thank you for appreciating the mastery of Sleep Token!!!!
The video for alkaline is like a mini movie. They definitely have some theatrics to them lol
straight fire!
I definitely recommend going through Sleep Token from the start.
It's a great story. Vessel's work touches multiple genres.
Worship!
I imagine that their fall 2024 tour will be in stadiums.
“And most likely his grass isn’t green because he’s alone probably because he’s treating them like prey”
Im so fking dead 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for showing ST some love!!

Summoning them cheeks 😂
more sleep token, best lyrics out there
Thanks CarlCox for this reaction
I think he really changed their game with this production!
Would definitly recommend listeing to Vore or Take Me Back To Eden next!
Holy bass boost
This is also about intimacy.
My vote is for Aqua Regia... of course if you haven't gotten to it yet.
~Worship
The guitar solo reminds me of Steve Vai or Joe Satriani
Sounds like the low end on this is clipping bad

If you haven't listened to Euclid you will love it
If you haven't already, vore should be up next
If you think this was heavy, you should listen to Vore:)
Need to listen to some o their older songs, Jaws, the love you want, the offering, alkaline
It's the flat earth
First like and first comment 😎
Bro please react to Sleep Token Drummer Vessel II’s offering with Drumeo. You’ll have an even more renewed respect for the art.
LMAO, you couldn't be more wrong bout what the songs about.
....and you must be perfection.
Music is meant to be interpreted by the listener. We could all come up with different reasons behind what the lyrics mean. Doesn't mean someone is wrong just means they felt something different
You think this heavy from them? Listen to vore
do vore
I think its really funny when people assume so much after like 10 words. Especially when they dont know the band 😂😂
