Sleep Token is a deep rabbit hole. They have so many good ones! Atlantic, Hypnosis, Alkaline, Aqua Regia, Euclid, Granite, Blood Sport, Ascensionism, Take Me Back to Eden, Sugar...the list goes on. They are SPECIAL SPECIAL!
They are also incredible live. Like honestly so fantastic.

Sleep Token lyrics are definitely influenced by relationships but what type of relationship is often a double or even triple. This song, 'Chokehold' is the singers relationship with sleep.
I watched the drumeo thing just now with 2 where he says he works his drum bits according to the lyrics, I see it now, that break down grabs you as if to be a chokehold over you wondering where you going wih the journey

Everyones allowed to have their own opinion I am playfully offended that you would put Madonna in the same category top-tier people that have this special it I think that's more of just a personal preference is someone you admire growing up or had a huge crush on more than her pop music being "it"
Sleep Token are the best band I have ever come across and the recent album is definitely my AOTY! You should go down the rabbit hole now. They’re genre bending and use elements of everything from rock, metal, RnB, trap, hip hop, gospel, and more. Even if you don’t like one song don’t write them off as every song is different and as you can see from this one they switch up completely through the songs, also don’t be thrown off by some of them being 7-8 minutes long either as it goes by far too quickly. You should start at the beginning and work your way through as they tell a story and have call backs to a lot of them. The band are anonymous, I and others know who they are but won’t reveal out of respect to the band and fans but the singer goes by the moniker Vessel, drummer, who is a beast is II, bassist III and guitarist IV. From London UK. As far as their discography goes they brought out two EPs called One and Two, then 2 singles called Jaws and The Way That You Were, then the three albums Sundowning, The Place Will Become Your Tomb, then TMBTE (Take Me Back To Eden). They’ve done five covers that I’m aware of. One being Hey Ya by OutKast, I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston, Is It Really You? By Loathe and When The Party’s Over by Billie Eilish, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. His Vocal range I believe is B ♭2 to F#5 and he has a wonderful chest voice, head voice and scream. I have never hyper fixated on a band like I have with these! Loved the react and Will subscribe and hopefully see many more. 🖤

Without knowing the vast amount of lore behind the band and their discography you broke down the lyrics pretty spot on. ST is a huge rabbit hole and if you choose to go down it I suggest listening to the albums in order because the trilogy tells an entire story. It’s a masterpiece
He's the sword, and I think the chokehold is the grip the other person has on his hilt...in another song he mentions someone being his favorite weapon of choosing, so I think that's the similar metaphor he's going for...

It's not controversial at all. Think most of us agree with you. Like they say... imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. He didn't even put his own mark on the song.
You should do Aqua Regia by Sleep Token next. It's my favorite song by them.

hi. im new to your channel, but i really appreciated your reaction to the song. i like your interpretation and you orated your opinions nicely so i sub'd. however i think you are way off with your idea that this is about love, i think its about a selfless devotion to someone or something. and i don't think you have to love that thing to be selflessly devoted to it. but what is he devoted to? he's devoted to the deity Sleep, hence the name of the band Sleep Token. and such is the lore of the "worship" of Sleep as the bands gimmick.
If you think thats good you need to dive into sleep token. Sugar, Bloodsport, assensionism, Take me back to eden, Alkaline, Granite . They have so many good songs. I could go on and on.
As a clue, Sleep Token doesn't write about relationships with other people, but with oneself.

The ‘two’ people idea, not for me.
This is a prayer to the god Sleep. ‘We’ isn’t about Sleep, it’s a reference to humans, as conscious entities. ‘When we were made it was no accident. We were tangled up like branches in a flood.’ To me, it’s a recognition of our coming out of a chaotic arrangement of all biology. This ‘sacred guardian’ isn’t a lover, but a Prophet to the god Sleep. He comes as a blade carrying out the will of Sleep, caught in a tight grip, and worth being sharpness is measured in blood, which is a reference to humanity again. And it’s all tied in with the refrain: ‘So show me, that which I cannot see, even if it hurts me, even if I can’t sleep. Oh and though we act out of our holy duty to be constantly awake.’

I dont get a relationship vibe from Choke Hold at all. I think its about roles within society. His role is as a guardian. To fight for good.
As good as the original is I think Will Ramos killed it on his vocal cover.
