I appreciate your ability to change your view from the beginning where you said it had little replay value to the end. It really did seem like a simple song at first but by the time you reach the end you realize just how complex it is and you just HAVE to listen to it again with a different lens each time

Before I posted this video I listened to it so many times. I love how the same exact verse sang 2 completely different ways at the beginning and at the end of the song transforms. The temperature changes. Listening to it again I really love the middle and interlude shit I love the entire track. Once I understood the structure of the song it clicked for me.
Their songs are a lot like Tool songs, they get better every listen!

Yeah it's really neat how they sang the same song, but just structured it differently, to give it entirely different moods. I think it's an interesting thing to point out in your own song. How interchangeable and fluid musical styles can be. And how, with just a little effort and thought, you can make the SAME song, sound like 2 entirely different songs. You are not alone in the "it sounds like a totally different song now" camp. xD It's a huge tonal shift, but the cool thing is that it still works. Because the middle section brings the mood down from the heavy metal to a progressive rock kind of vibe, and just lets your brain dial down from the 11 the previous section put it at. So you just kind of start grooving to that chill ambient solo, and then, Funktown kicks in. And it works! 🤣
@@happyninja42 Spot on. I've now listened to this an embarrassing amount of times. I never rewatch my own reactions but in this case, I saw my own transformation. Plus once the song starts I can't stop it lol.
If you watch some of the recent live versions of this, in that soft interlude part, instead of that electronic "skittery" stuff going on, they are having the drummer do improv/solo stuff and it fits so well (in addition to the atmospherics). It's actually pretty impressive, I didn't realize how good he is
I would give almost anything to listen to this album for the 1st time again. The whole album is a masterpiece. Period.

Sounds like they are throwing a bit of everything in a blender...which is what you do when you don't know wtf you are or want to be. They suck balls.
Also the more you listen to them the more you find to appreciate. For instance, THE DRUMMER IS A BEAST! Once I noticed that, I found myself focusing on the drums in every song. So talented.

Yesss! So psyched you got to this one. The second half of the song is a stronger representation of what Sleep Token “normally” sounds like. They’re masters of blending genres but there are very strong notes of pop, soul, R&B and even gospel throughout their catalog.

Sleep Token is definitely one of those verrrrry abstract bands. Kinda like Tool. They take you in very different directions. And they flip sounds mid-song so flawlessly. Highly reccomend checking out their song "Chokehold" off of this same album. If you like Tool, you'll love these guys. I promise you!

I'm a simple man, I see Sleep Token, I click. Got into these guys around September last year, and a lot of it was a slow burn for me. But it grew on me like no other, and so far every track from the new album has been an absolute banger, not one miss. The full album is out next Friday, I cannot wait :)

Sleep token is a weird and fantastic group. All their songs have a slow burn build to them that you could anticipate if you listen to more! Great reaction, will be back for more!
I love a good plot twist
The heavier parts of this song are masterful. The way Vessel changes up the ones is epic! If heavy is too much for you, you should check out Granite or The Love you Want. Sleep Token has a little something for everyone.

You really owe it to yourself to give both granite and aqua regia a listen. I noticed that you really got into the song when the song went full on funk/r&b. Those 2 songs are definitely r&b influenced. The range of this band, and the lead singer Vessel’s vocals, are insane.
The drummer II is amongst the best drummers I’ve seen as well. Maybe check out the Hypnosis drum video, if not for the channel just for personal viewing. Glad to see you change your mind!

This band is up there with tool. And I don't say that lightly. Considering it's two guys (vocalist and drummer) credited with the entirety of the album performance... Still blows my mind. Wait til you find out half their songs are soppy u requited love songs that would be considered in no way heavy... And yet they are just as good...
I'm confused by their lyrics because they do read as love songs but then I've read interpretations that the songs are directed at sleep.

Awesome man, some of my all time favorite music has taken a few listens before I get into it. 'Granite' is a real slick tune of Sleep Token's, you'll dig my man.
Glad you enjoyed this one! The first Sleep Token song that really captured me, and is still my favorite, is Descending. Much more of a slow build, and then the chorus is just pure vibe.
Man been so recently obsessed with these guys. Descending and now recently Higher is taking a hold on me.

Well you should definitely check out more of their songs! If you check out songs such as Granite, Atlantic, and Bloodsport, those are start out as ballads and pick out the rest of the band near the end of the songs! Or you could check out songs such as DYWTYLM, Aqua Rigia, and Give which are straight up pop songs!

I would say Sleep Token is one of the least hard-core bands in my play lists. What you are describing is like Slaughter to Prevail, Methwitch, Infant Annihilatior. These guys have this ethereal place where they can do anything, and it's beautiful. Two of my favorites other than this song, Jaws, Bloodsport (From the Room Below)

Soooo…..this is my first hearing it, and it reminds me when I was twelve and I accidentally drank the wrong koolaid at my friends house that her big brother made… we were watching The Lost Boys and I started shroom tripping not knowing what was going on… 😱🤯😵😵💫🤤🫠 This gives me that same feeling…kind of like it not gonna lie😅
For me the first half was take me for dinner and the last min or so was romance me. This song and I think "granite" is baby making metal
I took a car ride with this album like I had with Pink floyd...but I was a bit more aggressive at times.
If you check out some of their other music they definitely have some songs where they start out smooth and beautiful and they slowly build to a crescendo. They really can do it all
