I love my GTE. Came with the home charger and it only takes a few hours, usually hook it up at night for the cheaper rate. Most of the time I charge it while driving on engine mode then switch it over to Hybrid. Or if I'm just driving around locally and not likely to rack up 26 miles, have it on E mode. Generally though, I'll run it on E until it's zero regardless of where I am then put it on battery charge. As a rule of thumb, I use Hybrid on long trips. I hardly ever plug it in at home!

There's no point having a PHEV if you don't plug it in. Might as well go with a straight petrol model and save a bunch of money (leasing or buying) on initial costs and also amount of fuel you'll put in it (extra weight). I would say the GTE is a good winter car if you can run it fully charged/pre-heated on a daily basis and you have a short commute (sub-20 miles round-trip). I'm basing this on my 1 year experience of running a 2018 Audi A3 E-tron, which has the same innards as the GTE, running 3 or 4 days a week (I'm a community nurse, so driving regularly despite the lockdown). The Mk 8 GTE ups the range c/o bigger battery but tbh, at new prices, unless you required over 250 mile range, you'd be better off going for a VW ID3 58kwh EV imo.

Try this test again with a full EV battery. If you haven’t preset a departure time with warm air-con and window heating, the car will not let you start the engine so you can’t defrost the windows this way. I had issues one morning when VW’s cloud backend was offline and could not defrost from the phone app.

We haven't really had any bad winter's for sometime now in 🇬🇧 so that we can say which car performs better in the winter.
But i can say this i have seen a fiat outperform a X5 BMW 😁
The Narrow tires just seem to cut through the snow. While the BM struggled. 🏁

Must admit I am swaying a bit from getting a used BMW 330e to a Golf GTE in May for a few reasons like no Apple carplay included in BMW's unless you get a newer one also dealership is miles away from me was Listers (LOL) now Coopers also it is in middle of no where do have nice coffee though, my VAG group dealers of Simpsons is 5 mins from me oh plus you get two years warranty off franchise used, coffee is not great but Costa 2 mins walk !

How about the charging cable, will it froze in at cold weather, i understand that it will lock itself and when it get below zero, it freezes and you might not be able to remove it. I live in Finland and it gets below -18c at winter or even more. E-mode wont work at all below -10c

I bought one of these yesterday exact colour 2018 and hope it was a decent buy 11k on the clock (£21,290). I had it charged fully from VW when bought, and only said 27 miles rang, but seemed to run out alot quicker. But only drive 3miles to work and 3 back and new job will be 9 miles there and 9 back. So guess this would be worth it but dont have the facility at home to charge it. Would I be better off with just plain old petrol. Coming from a 2010 bluemotion diesel that used to get 500+ miles out if a tank but short journeyd gave dpf problems. Just wonder if its a waste

Sorry to be random but how do you find the car now that you've had it for 3 months? I'm considering a gte right now, no home charging for now but my commute is like under 2 miles.... Everything's quite close to where I live too 🤔 coming from a b7 Passat 1.6tdi.... that gets faults regularly now...

@@Its-Just-Gizmo i like the car, cost £48 for full tank anf get about 335 miles out of a tank. I can only charge it at the gym. So its good, if i dont go gym, i get and pay for fuel. If i go gym i lose weight and save on fuel. So its a bit of an incentive lol

I really can't find much information on it and i hope you can help, my daily commute is about shy of 200km, i mainly do around 80km/h roads which would be 50mph.
Would the hybrid system be efficient enough in the GTE for this commute? I have about 60km which is highways at around 80mph.
Most of the information i can find is related to lower speeds or city driving.. so i can't figure out if a hybrid car in general would benefit me (besides the danish gov. taxing diesels like mad right now)

Hey man! it wouldn't be worth it to be honest! once the battery is out (after a max of 50km) the engine will only average around 40mpg
