I have been watching just about every Golf GTE review available on RUclips over the past months, as this is my top choice of hybrid (GTE Advance, Mk7.5) at the moment/still that I want to move up to (my restriction: any hybrid will need to fit in my garage with accessibility to its charging point). And whilst all those videos have been very informative and useful, your video has been the most useful, very sincere and, for me, cementing my decision. Now I just need to find the right 2nd hand car for the right price, spec and mileage.
Thank you Marco, that's excellent to hear - we like to give our most honest view and thoughts on real world use 😀 Best of luck finding the one for you! 🙏🏼
@@jimj2683 perhaps not, but the quality of the drive is a big factor, and range on pure electric (imo). And when doing a test drive in one of these, I was sold. What a great car to drive, comfortable seats and intuitive to use!
I bought a Golf GTE Advance just over a month ago now and loving it. I'm averaging just over 180 mpg. My work is 12 miles away so I can do most journeys on electricity. 👍
Thanks for this really nice, clear and honest review. I just bought a 2017 with 40.000 mls on it and this review (and a few others) def helped me feeling confident to go for a GTE after my present MK6 1.2 TSI
I think you are a bit biased. Tuning this engines can get you the same acceleration as R version and you can use it fast or electric...so you can be very economic too. Some guys in Netherlands are good at tuning those - you can add stage 1 +80 hp (because in gte mode the elctric engine is only half used --so 30hp from the petrol engine and 50 from electric => >80hp gain).
really good review....ive got a 1.4 tsi mk7 golf but do fancy a gte as i live near work so could use e mode for that and give it a run out proper on the weekends
Got one mk 7.5 , bit stodgy and unengaging to drive tbh, but it is well made and transition to i.c.e from electric is sweet at 23-24 miles. 5 yr £1000 belt service is v high though !
Nice I'm thinking of buying a GTE advance 2019 in grey, worried about the battery use, as the battery gets older you get less out of it, just like mobile phones, so a car 3 years old must of had a lot of use, electric is poor in the winter, but only do sort journeys anyway, 10 miles a day at best. does it come with a heated steering wheel, by any chance?
In the early days of EV cars it's a tough call with battery life etc! We thoroughly enjoyed ours and found the EV mode very effective for short journeys. We're not sure if heated steering wheel is an option - sorry 😆
Advance adds luxuries like 18in alloys, the updated navigation system and heated seats. Advance models also include e-sound, which is a button next to the gearbox that creates engine noise, meaning those around you are more likely to hear the car coming. A genuine safety benefit to pedestrians, I think this is a feature we will soon see across more electric and plug-in vehicles.

For these expensive cars, the fuel savings from a PHEV don't really matter.

Nice to hear the view of someone who has lived with the car long term
Thank you for such clear real-life review of the car and its owning experience! Brilliant! Considering this model now
Thank you - I am just about to do new video on the same Golf GTE as they are just the best hybrid.

That’s the end... all done 🤣 love it! Brilliant car!!!
Thanks! 😁
Thanks for the great video. Helped convince me selling mk7 R we've had for 6 years to get one of these isn't such a bad idea.
Thanks Dan, I did a second video recently and its a great car but you must have warranty
Brilliant review, might have helped with decision to get one. Thanks 👍

GTE mode with 0 Km on the battery? No wonder it didn’t feel sporty. It uses the battery to compensate for the turbo lag.
Very great video! Very informative! Keep it up my friend!
Thank you

If you buy 2016 or before it's tax free
It's cool. Smooth car.
Brilliant daily 💪🏼
What are these like in the modern day? With higher mileage? We’re considering a 2018 with 81k on it
Very good, but add extended warranty

in my eye is the seat leon/cupra leon is better... bacekly same car. just cheeper, but better on the road and nicer to look at..
I notice you had the self park button, did you try it out at all and if so was it accurate?
Worked well but was weird at first not to grab the wheel 🤣
How much does a home charge cost?
Very cheap of peak rates
How have you found the servicing? E.g. intervals and pricing etc
Will check for you - but it always seems reasonable through VW direct 👍
Are there any big differences in the golf gte and golf gte advance?

Hope that helps - going to do a video soon GTE - GTI comparison
@@Challengetheroad I wish I knew this before I ordered the normal gte , so am I losing out big time?

Electric motor surely, and 204 bhp and put the bloody thing into B mode. No idea
Noticed that but still no sports car! Great all rounder though
