I’ve had this car in Ireland now for 2 and a half years and I’d only change it for another one or an egolf if they looked a bit better
I’ve 20000km on the clock and I’ve used approx 900 Euro s of fuel
75% of my driving is in electric with a charger at home and work
    This machine is genius

Nice one lads. Bought my GTE a couple of weeks ago and your analysis was pretty similar to my initial thoughts. Battery hold comments were the same as my understanding. City councils will increasingly put tough emission standards on central areas. Therefore, drivers will need to save the battery for that leg of their journey.

Excellent presentation and informative - I await delivery of my GTE. The 35mile issue is an important one. My friend who does similar distance uses hybrid on motorway and battery in town doing his but to town environment- don’t know the mpg on that one. Many thanks

In regards to hold, I do use it on a daily basis. This is due to the fact that I cannot charge the car at home, but I will do within the next little bit. For the meantime I charge at my local Tesco lol. So for me, it ensures I still have battery left.
Hold is a bit weird, it doesn't not use electric at all. It will actually use Electric at lower speeds and revs until it gets to a certain percentage below the current charge rate, and then charge back up the level it was when you put the vehicle in hold. This is usually between an eighth and a quarter of the gage.
Again, it's a weird one that has small use cases, but for myself is very useful for the circumstances I'm in.

I would maybe guess battery hold might come in handy when you know you’re going to hit standstill/rolling traffic in rush hour. So you can use the engine for good mpg on motorway for example, and then just slow roll in traffic on your battery to get the best ‘mpg’ overall, as that’s not efficient for the petrol engine!

battery hold on motorway, and ev only in the emission zones like london, at some point cars will have to use a gps tracker system, which will switch between the 2 automatically as you enter/leave emission zones.... the ford transit phev thats been trialled in london at the moment uses this system...

Have you tried to use the VW Data Plug with the GTE? According to Volkswagen, all features of VW Connect are not compatible with GTE models. But I'm curious about what features are working. I can not find this anywhere on the internet.

  • @DaanBrandt
    @DaanBrandt 6 лет назад +1

Yess the production cost can come down when you produce more but you need to keep developing and sell those slightly better developed cars too. So the best thing to do is to spread the inovation cost over all VW models.

I live in Norway and use Battery hold every time i drive with my caravan. I have a Burstner 460 premio that is 1500kg
I want to save my battery for when i need the boost from GTE mode when i climb up our mountains, and when i need power to pass all the slow Danish motorhome drivers on our tiny Norwegian roads.
Always trying to use my battery down to 10% at the mountain top, then i dont have to use my brakes on the way down and get back to 100% battery when im back to sea level. If im not at 100% battery close to when im on my way down, i switch to battery charge and charging battery faster and at the same time driving down the hill at a realy low cost. This make me drive my car + caravan at the cost of 0,85 to 0,90 Liter pr 10 kilometer. Thats not bad for a total weigth of 3540 kilo if you ask me :-)

I also love to save some battery for when i drive into a big camping late at nigth on electric mode.
When camping the electric is incluided in the cost, so i always leave the day after with 100% battery :-)

Can you do a vid where you investigate the 'battery charge' mode and how much petrol it uses etc and whether it's worth using that mode maybe when you're on the motorway and then using the electric when in a town centre

    • @StablevehiclecontractsCoUk

We don't think the battery charge mode is worth it at all! We'd rather use full petrol than be burning fuel for short electric miles.
