    Such a great video, HorrorHands. Your ending comments about 'silly, all over the place...." took me back to the way earlier Universal House franchise films, House of Dracula, House of Frankenstein. Maybe there's just something about putting 'house' in the title of a horror film?

    I love the Hong Kong horror series Mr. Vampire from 1985. The mid eighties spawned all sorts of weirdness and hidden gems. The first House film was fun, too.

      Mr. Vampire is awesome! They used the same research document as Sammo Hung's Spooky Encounters movies, which are also great.
      They've all just been released in lovely BD by Eureka, definitely a great time to pick them up!

    It's a very bizarre franchise.
    I have nostalgia for the first one as I used to watch it a lot when I was a kid.
    I've always seen it as a poor man's "Evil Dead" even though it probably had a slightly higher budget.
    I owned the boxset myself once but could never take to the sequels so gave it away, but I kind of want to give them another go now.
    Great video Bryn 👍

    I've never been a big fan of the House movies. Hated the cheesy, rubbery-looking monsters and the ludicrous plots. To me, they were more spoof movies than proper, scary haunted house films. And that scene where Katt sets himself up in the house, all decked out in his combat gear, I thought was the most laughable and ridiculous of them all (lol)! I mean, what was wrong with getting a proper ghost hunter in? Anyway, a very well presented video, Bryn, and yes, I would certainly agree with you that the House series is certainly one strange franchise!

    House is a great one from the 80’s. I remember seeing the zombie hand poster all over the place in all the video shops at that time. It’s an iconic poster image for that period. It’s a shame that they didn’t at least have the Lance Hendrickson character living in a big scary house for the third movie and tenuously link it to the series (even if they wanted to make a completely standalone film they could’ve still linked it in someway).
    Did you know that a fifth film is to be release in 2024? The poster art is clever as the zombie hand is pressing a smart doorbell to bring it line with todays audience.

    • @horrorhands879
      @horrorhands879  4 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, that poster is really iconic. I was surprised they didn’t try to link Part 3 in some way. I have seen that updated poster but thought it was a joke lol

    • @eelponna3145
      @eelponna3145 4 месяца назад

      I’m assuming House 5 and the poster is real but I’m not 100% sure I must admit. It seems like a strange franchise to rejuvenate for todays audience. I doubt youth today will be aware of the original movies.
      Another horror film I thought was an odd choice for a franchise was XTRO. There’s at least three XTRO films I think.

    Hi Bryn.
    I'd seen one or two of these in my late teens. When Arrow announced them, I was looking forward to figuring out what I'd watched. I couldn't really. It might have been the 4th one.
    Your description of the first one makes me think its all an hallucination. That why it's a happy ending.
    I find the neighbour so annoying. It's a bit like The Burbs.
    3 is a cool film and I think I quite liked 2.

    Another great vid, Bryn. In a way, this one wasn't entirely about the House franchise. It was also about you, in a very un-narcisstic way that was quite pleasant. We discovered how your perspective on two films shifted as you developed, grew, & learned. We even found out (without revolting details, thank you!) what could make you blanch: a huge surprise, as you're so cool with slashers & video nasties! It was great to get more insight into what makes you tick. Much thanks! 👍🏻
    Now, how about the Top Ten Lance Henriksen films, if you haven't already done that? He never gets enough praise, to my mind. 🧠
    And how about the Top Ten Most Horrorific Interiors? The Haunting's Hill House has to be number one with me. I haven't seen The Shining, but I'm guessing that hotel might make the list for a lot of folks. The American station in John Carpenter's The Thing? The Nostromo? The video arcade puzzlebox of a pyramid in AVP? Dunno. Doesn't have to be a haunted house, just a Very Bad Enclosed Space. And it isn't just what is IN there, it's the place itself that has to be menacing. Love to see your takes on these! 😁
