- WHAT?! Yup. Game over for this 911. I completely, utterly, totally, order this car. I bought it in the summer of 2019, sunk hundreds of hours into modifications and tuning... but it's time to move on. In this video I talk about my decision to move on from 991 and what's next for AutoAmateur... Porsche fans don't fret, LOTS more in store for you in 2022....
As ever, thanks so much for watching my videos and supporting my channel. Keep the comments and chat coming! More videos coming soon. Cheers!

Huge respect! I am waiting for the GT3 James 😁 your wife sounded like princess leia, when she recorded the message into R2-D2 "please help us obi wan kenobi....you are our only hope " 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dude, I ask her to wear the gold bikini from Return of the Jedi all the time but she says no. Haha.
Hey James!!!! Such a cool news!!! I wish all sucess in your next car jorney!!! As one of your fan, I will be there!!👍🏻👍🏻🚗🚗
Thank you so much my friend!! Happy holidays!!
treat the new owner well 991.1!!
Hadn’t checked in in a while since the sad trombone last 996 episode (which I thought was the end). Make sure you do a recap video to get us all back up to speed!
Welcome back! Check this out… Project 996 Returns - Jobs coming up and Headlight Restoration DIY
Sad to see and hear, but I get it. You have a lot on your plate. Hopefully next summer I'll be able to come down and join the group on a few rides and see all you guys and your cars. I follow you and the groups on FB in MN.
Thank you and yes please!! Always good to meet new Porsche friends. Keep in touch! Happy holidays.
I came to your channel because of your scissor lift installation. I stayed because of your passion for cars, and your a good chap 😂
Thank you! That's very kind. I appreciate that!
Awesome….Nice to see that you have picked the 996 over the 991. Cheers 🍻
Thanks so much!
Wish the best ⚜️ of the best
Thank you!!
2016 GTS N/A Car!! Holds value too. I feel that's your next car.
I’m certainly game!
Oh wow - can’t wait to see more 996 videos :)
Thank you!! Can’t wait to get stuck back in.
It's going to be epic. Hope you go for a GT3. I have the 991.1 Carrera and wonder what's next as well.
Thank you!
It’s such a car guy thing. Spend so much time and money making your car yourself then sell it to move on to the next one. I always feel a little sad when I do this. Don’t know why it’s taken so long to actually comment on how amazing your content is. Keep up the great work! Please keep it Porsche!!!
Interested what you end up going for. Although I already have a mint 993, in 2018 I wanted to add another 911 but a new one. Unfortunately, all Carreras went to a Turbo (991.2) and so the only normally aspirated 911 was a GT3. Well I wasn't going to pay more than list for a GT3 (why would you). I lucked into a 3y 1m old heavily optioned ($45,620 in factory options) 2015 GTS in a manual with only 98 miles on it. The GT3 is too stiff for daily street use, so the GTS was just right. A great channel BTW and fun to watch.
A 996 does perfectly fine on the Tail of
The Dragon 😉
That’s right!! 🤣🙌
Great decision. The 996 is a better model.
It's been a while for me.... Love the 991.2 rear...it really looks the part Now. And now it's going noooo....but yes for the next chapter of your channel mate..Can't wait! HNY and up n onto 996 year :-)
Cheers mate, appreciate it!! Can’t wait to get back to the 996 videos. Happy new year!
@@AutoAmateur Happy holidays & HNY to all!!
Thanks again for everything you've done to help us, our customers, and your viewers to make educated choices with your detailed and charismatic 991.1 videos! - Mike
Cheers Mike, appreciate it!! I can already imagine the sound of my next Soul set-up on my next 911.... ;-)
I'd have gotten rid of the 996 and kept the 991, but you do you, man. That 996 is already a can of worms and like they say, where there's smoke, there's fire. Prepare your checkbook.
Hahaha. Totally fair enough. Checkbook is at the ready…. 🥴🙃
Impressive self control. I am shocked but really respect your decision.
YESS!! my dad is picking me up from my apartment for winter break and i’m hoping my luggage will fit in the back seats and the trunk :’) thank you james, hopefully we can see you again sometime
Cheers Jane!! Keep in touch! Hit me up on Instagram. All the best.
BIG news and moving on, best of luck with the 996 and whatever comes next!?!
Cheers Jeff!!
James, I cannot believe you are parting with your eldest child! But I know you will find a replacement soon enough. Keep us all posted on the 996. If you can't find a home for it I might be persuaded...
It’s going to be the hottest most bad ass 996 on the market. I can’t WAIT to get it going.
@@AutoAmateur I have no doubt about that! Can't wait to see the finished project. Ever thought about a different angle? Maybe a Chevy 350 swap?
Nice work James. These cars come into out lives, make their impact and then they either hold your attention ongoing or they don't. The journey with this car has been great to watch. Can't wait to see what you have in store for the 996 and then what comes in 2022.
well done James ..... love the fact you are keeping the 996 ... great that you are moving up too has to be a GT3
Cheers Paul!
I am speachless why not sell the 996 a problem car!
I like a challenge. Haha.
OMG !!!!!! All that work and then its gone..... :( and your wife called it a paper weight :( So Sad, well good luck hope to see you in a GT3 !
Hahaha. Me too Danny!! GT3 or 991.2 GTS. Who knows! Exciting.
991.1 is a classic.
For sure, if not now it certainly will be one day.
You know what they say buddy, Happy Wife, Happy Life! Not surprised you're moving on. I'm just trying to wrap my head around all the recent work and money you put into the 991 just to sell it a month or two later. As you said you've done all you wanted to do with it and time to move to a new project. Glad to see you're going to be showing the 996 some love after so long. I see a colorful 997 Turbo in your future. A GT3 Touring would be nice too. But get 3 pedals this time. Just saying. Happy Holidays to you and your family, and all the best in the coming new year. Cheers!!
Ha! 3 pedals next time? Done. That can mean my 996 project car which THEN means I have to go back to 2 pedals for my new / next 911…? Right…? 😉
Good luck James, I will be watching.
Cheers Mark!!
Great news! I subscribed because of the 996 build, looking forward to seeing more videos about it 👍🏻
Thank you! Cheers!!
I would have gotten rid of the wife. You never have to sit alone in a 911.
But Im happy for you to keep the 996. If it comes to choice it will give you more than the 991 - which is a superb car too. 996 just requires more commitment and reward in many aspects of enjoying a sports car: more about your own hands, choices, decisions, less computers and fixed service programs.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
One of my favorite Porsche channels! By the way, it was you James who helped me buying my Porsche 911. Your videos changed some of my tastes, especially in the interior details and I'm very grateful for that, because they were great changes that paid off in the end!
That's very kind, thank you Junior!! Congratulations on your 911 purchase. Cheers!
Looking forward to the next chapter of the 997! And I can't wait to see what you get next!
Sorry to see the 991 leave your garage James. The knowledge your shared was very helpful for me personally understanding I have the same car and made some enhancements thanks to you. Looking forward to your next chapter 👍
James, can’t wait to see the next 911!!!!!!!!
Onwards and upwards buddy ! Looking forward to 2022
Thank you Jeremy! Cheers!
Right decision James, looking forward to seeing the 996 completed.
Cheers Michael! Appreciate it! Hope you’re doing well. LOVING PCooled. 🙌🤩
GT3 Sir.........
Hell to the yes.
Great send off of the 991, and I look forward to the next chapter in the Auto Amateur journey.
Cheers Mr Stone City! 🤩 How is your project coming along??
Now what have you started. My 991.1🤔
Hahahahaha.
I have a 981, and I’ve been enjoying your videos help me make some minor mods. Sorry to hear the 991 is going but excited to see how you mod the 996.
oh no!!! I vote GTS!
991.2 GTS, yes please.
Come on back! You know you’re always welcome. I am sooo very happy now
I made the same decision 2 months ago with my 991 C4S, owned for 2 1/2 years also. Mine was a relative high miler too and you have to make a decision on longevity, spend, usage, value. The day after I sold, 3 Porsches passed me including a C4s 991 and that sound is intoxicating and made me wish I had kept it. Sometimes I think I wish I had a garage big enough for all the cars I have owned and the reality is no car is forever, as that garage doesn’t exist, it just makes the wait for the next one a bit more exciting 😀
Hahaha. Some truth in there for me. Every time I see another 991 on the road my heart sinks a little at the moment. But then I go home and continue searching for my next one and all is suddenly better. Haha. 🙃
Looking forward to seeing you take delivery of your 2022 GT4 RS ;)
Bittersweet. Like that you're focusing on the 996 and anxious to see how that comes along and ultimately, what's next longer term.
Cheers Andrew!! 2022 is going to be fun… 🙃
Great work James. Looking forward to seeing the progress of getting the 996 back on the road. Beyond that, a GT3 feels like the future…
Absofuckinglutly yes!
Damn! Big change. I’m sure you’re gonna get something even better. Someone will be happy with the 996 also once it’s sorted and ready to go👍🏻
It was hard to give up my 991.2 and the delay of the 992 seemed forever and yes the wife still reminds me she did not get her European trip but I was so appreciative when it finally did arrive and you will appreciate it when you reunite with whatever 911 you decide on .
Nice video James. I recently sold my 991.2 (worth more used than new!) so I understand the tough decision. You might miss it, but it's always fun to move on to something new. Cheers!
Thanks James for documenting everything you've done, I'll be referencing your videos as I still do stuff with my 981. Understandably its time to move on. If you want a GTS, perhaps I can suggest a future 718 GTS 4.0 for a bit more of a 'youthful' drive!
Cheers Nate, appreciate it!
James, we share the same sadness… Just sold my 991.1 GTS4 last week. But it’s time to move on… Setting my sights on another GT car when the market cools. Hopefully I can add a number to GT!
I feel your pain!! Here's to getting into a GT car in the near future.... to us both!
I love both the 991.1 and the 996.1 have a 996. 1 and would love to have a 991.1. From an envy angle, I am glad you kept the 996, at least for now. LOL!
Very interesting! I’m looking forward to seeing the 996 videos. If I had both cars and no channel to keep going fresh, I would have sold the 996 and kept the 991 and thought it was the sensible thing to do. But getting a new car adds even more excitement to your channel.
The right decision James, a GTS will look great in your garage. Looking forward to the 996 content.
Cheers David! Thanks!
Please set up your camera at an even angle or slightly lower than your eyes. The down angle is dizzying.
Hahah. The problem is that I'm 6ft 7in and if I did that you won't see the cars behind me unless I stand at the end of my driveway. Hahaha.
Sad to see your 991 go but very excited that you're sticking to the brand and moving up to the next level. I would LOVE to see you in a GT3 as it is a phenomenal car! Can't wait to see more content of the 996.
Every time you sell your cars it like.. it’s sad. I know it’s the best thing for the channel and that blue 996. Good luck. I’ll be watching.
James Congrats to the new owner, sad to see it go but your future GT3 awaits I can't wait. Or you could join me on the dark side with a Turbo 993 :)
Looking forward to seeing the 996 finished.
GT3 or GT3RS in 2022 👍
Sad to see it go but I more excite to help you find next AA vehicle. GT3 all the way!
We both know what you have in store. I just wish that you could’ve done more 997.1 vids. I’m here for the long haul. That 996 might just bite you where you don’t like to be bitten😁
GT2. I called it!
A bit of a shock James, but onwards and upwards. Got to be a turbo or a GT car next mate. 😀🏎
Cheers Nicholas! Happy Chrimbo!
I'll buy your rear spoiler if you still have it?
I have the top of the original spoiler, sure! Or do you mean the Moshammer one? That went with the car.
It will be good to see the 996 sorted. My thoughts on your next car, it should be better in every way than the tired 991.1 there have been huge technological advancements, take advantage and enjoy
Dump a 991 for a 996? Yikes
I’ll keep a sharp eye out for your ‘carbon-fibred-to-the-max’ 991.1 on my next trip from Calgary to visit my sister in beautiful Rochester. Great choice on changing gears (literally) to give that 996 some badly-needed luuuuuuvvvvv. And, I vote for a new GT3 … your noble service to the brand *should* put-you-in-line for an (eventual) allocation.
Hahahaha. That’s what I think too! 🤩
I have a 2016 GTS, and I would keep the 996. Good luck on your car journey, sir!
Thank you, cheers!
James! At first, I was very sad and worried about what selling the 991 would mean for your channel. But by the end I’m REALLY excited about 1 - more 996 content, and 2 - some form of GT_? coming “soon”.
If you want an extra set of hands working on that 996, let me know! I’m not an expert, but I’m enthusiastic about turning wrenches.
KC
Thank you Kelly! I might very well take you up on that offer! Cheers!
I can identify with what James is talking about.
I bought a perfect 2016 991.1 black edition 2 years ago, did all the mods I could, then ran out of stuff to do. So I sold the black edition and bought a 991.2 C4 gts...probably one of the best things I've ever done. The 991.2 in gts form is a amazing machine, far superior to the 991.1 C2. Don't get me wrong, the .1 C2 was awesome in its own right and sounded amazing, but in terms of performance the gts blows it away.
Since buying the gts I've done almost every mod I can, but the difference between the two is the gts is so good (especially with a stage 2 tune) that I don't even want anything else, not even a turbo s or a gt3...at least not right now. Happy trails James!
Wow!! This is kind of a shocker!! I’m a little sad to see it go. But on the plus side, that 996 has just been sitting in your garage appreciating, so when you do get it up and running and decide to move on it should turn a better profit. I really expected the reasoning to be a move into a GT3 now. But this sounds like a good plan. All the best!
Hahaha. All in good time my friend. 🙃🤩
😢
Next time, try a 981 Spyder. Get the bucket seats and you can mod it with the classic Pepita seat inserts, GT3RS louvered front fenders, 718 Spyder wheels, tune is for another 30hp, maybe even a Brewster Green wrap. Oh wait, that is how I want to mod mine:-) I would like to watch you do it first. ha . I am excited for your next project. Pump out some more content while Nick Murray is in NZ
James, I’ll miss your 991.1 videos - you really helped me with all of the upgrades I’ve done, from my Soul Performance Exhaust upgrade… even did my first oil change this year with the 911 because of your help.
Thanks for always replying to emails and helping a brother out! From Canada with love! I can’t wait to see what you are getting next!
Echo this. Little tips have really helped Thanks
Time for a Ferrari!
Nooooooooooooo! Porsche forever.
Red stitching? You never said?
Carrera T it's stripped of all the sound deadening. Lightweight glass. Budget GT3 in the making can be tuned to GT3 power levels and it has a unique body style.
So long 991! Really enjoyed the content. Have you considered one of the 4 or 4S variants? Year round driveability and that wide butt! Or Maybe a Targa??
I was going to offer to come help you with the 996 but I didn’t even get a shoutout, geez 🙄. 😂 if and when I ever sell my car, I want it to go far far away, I think it would be too painful to see it and not own it.
Repeat after me: 996 GEE TEE THREE
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sorry to hear youve sold the 991 james- you should do what i do- have a car or bike for every kid you have😂👍 i have two bikes and now 2 kids. The wife wants another kid but ive put the clause in that i want another bike- possibly a ducati 1198s😁👍🤭 all the best mate!
James…. Check your sugar! That’s a beautiful car 🤷🏽♂️
Your wife cracked me up 😂
I reckon he ends up with a GT3
James, you mentioned working on the 996 engine, but last I knew it needed a whole new engine. Did you source a new engine for it? Also, did you ever determine why it broke like it did?
Wait?! I didn't buy it? Who the heck did?? I will have to find out haha
Get rid of the wife 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤣🤣🤣
😳🤣🤣🤣🤣
how many miles are on your 991?
110k
997 Turbo s. Mod it into gt2 rs territory
Ohhhhhhh interesting!!
@@AutoAmateur It would be a seriously cool project, that's for sure.
That conversion has been done at huge expense 5 years ago
Sorry, James. You chose poorly.
You should have listened to your wife and sold the 996.
Bah! Well... time will tell. I certainly miss the 991 but you know, I'm sure I'll be just as excited about my next 911.
:(
I know the feeling. Sold my 2014 991 C4S yesterday. Sad day.
