Everyone in Oz are going away from the ball and socket couplings. These are popular with off road campers where there is no bitumen. Crossing the chains makes it easy if it accidentally becomes uncoupled, doesn't drag on the road. Its nice to have some mod cons when camping, usually other four wheel drives have swags under a awning hanging off the four wheel drive for cover. Fire pits, cast iron camp pots and jaffle irons are in attendance in the camp.
Emergency break on front while you're hitching up is great hopefully some manufactures in the United States will pick up on this. Among other things.. keep up the good work
Rotate the swinging jack the other way where the wheel is under the front of the camper. Also with the wheel on that jack, you can move the camper to help line up the hitch once you get close.
First video I have seen where someone shows hooking up to the trailer with that hitch and the precision it takes to line it up. As you explained not a lot of people will fully use the articulation hitch so different options would be nice. Look forward to the next video.
A lot of people commenting on the hitch seem to be forgetting that this is a purpose built trailer, for off road. Moab, mountains, trails, not KOA camping at the highway exit. If you camp like that and buy this trailer then you are like the people that buy a jeep with 40's on it then complain about the tire noise on the highway.
I do like the pintle idea over a ball hitch system. All our trailers from a 5x8 utility trailer all the way up to the 20 tonne float all have a pintle hitch. One size fits all. Also, no weight distribution hitch required? Cheers 🇨🇦
I use this style hitch on an overlanding trailer that was built from military trailer. It is easier to hitch it all together and then back truck to receiver slot. Much easier than trying to line the pin up perfectly.
Yep, a very cool, great looking trailer. I like the idea of a pintle hook. It will articulate almost as much as this one, but without the complex hook-up.
I spent 7 months last year in my HQ19, and am leaving again soon. Great trailer and infinitely more capable than I am. However one of the best upgrades I did was installing a Mchitch, still fully articulating but much easier to hook up.
ROA-- RV of America and they have a you tube channel been watching it long before you get to use it. Wanted you to get the H21 series they do off roading the call people that do this ROAMERS. AND you go with them it’s awesome. So glad your doing this.
Benefit of the wheeled manual jack is you can give it a nudge to help line up when hitching. Can't do that with the solid foot on most RV tongue jacks! However that flat foot would be more stable when setting up camp.
With the wheels on the jack and hand brake I would just get the truck close and then manually move the trailer tongue into the final pin position. Looking forward to the reviews of the camper.
I had this type of articulating hitch on my offroad trailer that I pulled behind my Jeep in Australia. Absolutely loved it. I had seen too many accidents where trailers were disengaged due to the lack of articulation. Hookup was not a problem as the tongue weight was not so great that I could not bump the trailer 1/2" one way or the other to get aligned. Not sure how heavy the Black Series is, but that double wheel dolly should allow for a little wriggle room. As for the 14" long hitch. We have integrated ones (not bolt on) that are much shorter. If you are concerned about the swing-away dolly wheel limiting turning capacity, wind it all the way up and it won't stick forward so far.
Two questions. 1. Is there a need for a weight distribution hitch with this trailer depending on your tow vehicle? 2. Is there enough clearance to allow for opening your truck tailgate when hitched up?
I would like the pintle hitch option. Then I can still keep my ball and bring down keeper to lock it in. Then if I'm hauling something else just pop the keeper out of the way.
It matches beautifully with your truck even though I’m not a Ford guy anymore 😉 Soon would love to see your opinion about the trailer explore from Wisconsin 🙏
Great video. If you ever get tired of that truck. I would love to own it. I have dreamed of having a truck like that for as long as I can remember. I have fixed up old trucks and made them work for what I needed at the time . I did buy a close to new truck 35000 miles and it was stolen and totaled. I then had to get both wrists and elbows cleaned out and fixed. Now I just have a tired 1997 f150 xl 4x4 with 250000 miles and a tick in the motor and I have to have shoulder surgery. I can't get a break!!! .
Yes crossed to catch tongue and helps stabilize it in the event of a disconnect. If the there are hooks on chains they should be attached opening upwards or outward depending upon how they connect to the truck. This is also law in a lot of states.
Level of precision? Maybe this setup should be the test to determine if someone is allowed to tow anything. Then maybe I wouldn't have to spend 20 minutes waiting for someone to get their boat down the ramp or RV straightened up and out of the road.
You complain about the hitch but forget that in Australia where this camper is from vehicles are set up differently. There is nothing wrong with the adapter they sent you because it's attached exactly where your tow ball would screw on, just instead of a "ball" you have a U coupler, and it HAS to stick out those extra inches because of that additional axis in articulation. I would get creative with it a little and turn it into a bumper step for the back of the truck instead of just complaining that it "sticks out". BTW: You are paranoid about not having a tag on the trailer but then cover up the rear plate on the truck LOL
I still say the truck manufactures need to send you a off-road model of their trucks so that you properly test this black series trailer off road. I'm posting this during the pre-roll ads. I don't know what the tongue weight of this black series is, but I expect it might be pushing the payload limit on some off road trucks, like the Raptor and TRX, some of which have a payload less than 1000 pounds. Personally, I would like to see a Nissan Titan XD Pro4X.
Everyone is going away from the poly block to the cruisemaster DO35 hitch. So much easier to hook up and better all round. The do35 is rated to 3.5 tonne and the do45 is rated to 4.5 tonne.
Not a fan of relying in the hair pin to keep the main connecting pin retained on a flexing joint. I understand the theory and how cool it is off road. But using the same style hitch to haul agriculture equipment I've seen those pins work thier way up and out. (Seen lots of pins that have arms that secondarily latch those pins along with a hair pin from the top to prevent a pin from walking out.)Causing the load to be lost at slow speeds. Can't imagine what carnage would happen at speed. Still cool trailer though.
Normal hitch pin is not rotation point! Hi JT pin is one direction pull (locked on place). So no rotating parts possibly catching the release pin or wearing the pin.
The Aussies call the tongue jack a "jockey wheel", totally useless on a trailer that, size. Did you notice the door is hinged wrong, suic_ide style like a 1964 Lincoln.
@@BTBRVReviews oh really? I took a look at their website after your previous video but i must have missed it. Now the money issue.. lol too many irons in the fire right now.
I do think the trailer Looks cool...With a truck and trailer how much real off roading can you do? It is more eye candy than practical. You really pay allot for the "looks".
Not as elegant, a Pintle ring and hook could give the same amount of articulation with the ability quickly connect. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.
We changed the ball mount section to a McHitch drop on "Adaptor Coupling for Treg and Trigg" on our forward fold. Best investment if u want to retain the poly block before upgrading to a DO35 or similar.
Worst hitch. That’s why I go with the mchitch. Don’t need to get it perfectly aligned and will automatically lock in place when you back in all the way
I didn't connect the brake away cable because I was only moving the trailer about 600 yards to the water station on site.

I’m looking forward to seeing you use this rig. Also, the off-road capabilities of that F450 will be interesting, too.
How about sway control? Those instant unexpected cross winds at highway speeds can really toss a trailer around.

I’m having trailer envy, especially with the places I go.
The camera in the tailgate really come in handy. 👍😁
I have used a hitch like that before. Once you get used to it doesn’t take that much longer and the articulation is great on uneven ground.
Will the trailer tongue jack swing back, to be out of the way? Don’t like the the hitch at all, we would would do mild off road not extreme. 😎🇺🇸
Good Morning Big Truck & Big RVs
Thank You Big Truck & Big RVs
Watching that cool rugged beast towed on the road, especially with the HQ19, reminds me of Stripes: the EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle! 👍👍

Surprised that jack with wheel wasn't mounted on the left side. But if they originally came from Australia, that would make since :)
Two questions. 1. Is there a need for a weight distribution hitch with this trailer depending on your tow vehicle? 2. Is there enough clearance to allow for opening your truck tailgate when hitched up?
My husband seen a 2500 towing BS19 and it was low.
Imagine being behind this thing in traffic he says, how cool it looks isn’t something I would think whatsoever.
Awesome trailer. I've seen one at the campsites around here and there was definitely some jealous though going on. Can't wait for more videos.
So no sway control at all?
You should be able to swing the wheel jack back towards the camper. It looks the part for sure!
Appreciate the videos on this trailer. Is there any type of weight distribution available for this hitch system?
I honestly didn't know that kind of hitch existed. Reminds me of the old railroad era when they manually coupled rail cars with a pin and loop.
I would like the pintle hitch option. Then I can still keep my ball and bring down keeper to lock it in. Then if I'm hauling something else just pop the keeper out of the way.
Awesome bumper pull! Anybody else getting the neighbor vibe from home improvement?? U never quite see his face no matter what
It matches beautifully with your truck even though I’m not a Ford guy anymore 😉
Soon would love to see your opinion about the trailer explore from Wisconsin 🙏
Retract the manual tongue jack all the way and swing it the other way. Should solve the tight turning concerns.
If you rotate that landing wheel the other way it will give you more turning clearance when turning to the right
How does that type of hitch control sway? Or does the trailer suspension itself help eliminate sway?
There is no sway control system for this setup. It's really about having a truck with enough weight, stability and power to handle it.
@@BTBRVReviews And I think I have seen videos of a RAM Power Wagon towing an HQ19, so that combo apparently works.
Do you remember what nut, bolt and washer size you used for this setup? Thank you so much for posting this! The dealer didn’t have a clue.
I don't. Sorry

The best way they can "reimburse" you for the wash is to link some of your videos on their website.
Take the hitch out of the trucks receiver and slide it into the truck once everything is put together? May work easier
Then you must align the hitch and the hitch pin
I like the hitch. Why you cross the chains? Safety?
Oh ok. I just never seen people cross chains before in my state
Yes crossed to catch tongue and helps stabilize it in the event of a disconnect. If the there are hooks on chains they should be attached opening upwards or outward depending upon how they connect to the truck. This is also law in a lot of states.
JD great video. Just one thing, I know the name, but wouldn’t know you in person. Can we see who JD is?
Looks like a combat camper, wonder if they'll offer it in a camo paint scheme...

That's the Holiday fruit cake of all hitchs, awesome trailer though. 👌
Do you think swing the jack under the camper might be better in the long run of thing
Looking at that trailer gave me an idea for mine. Remove the patio light and install a small light bar. 🤔
What do they tow it with in Australia 🦘?
All their trucks are mid size like a Ranger.
Can you buy 3/4 or 1 ton there?
Very cool trailer!
Will you be able to use the backup camera? Do you need an interface for your current camera system?
There is a screen that plugs in.
I looked like it rode pretty level with your truck.
What does the inside look like that's the only thing I like to see before I buy I
so if it weighs 6100 lbs how do you get away without a weight-distribution hitch. isn't it required by law over 5000lbs
Each state is different
@@TheTide1996 ok cool
I'm so bad with backing up a trailer. This would be another half hour for me and that's before I could drive forward with the trailer.
So what’s wrong with a Pintle hook instead of that pain in the neck hitch.

My question is is it 4 seasons Camper ?
Nope. Exposed tanks
If you have an uneven driveway, this hitch would be annoying to say the least.

Well I missed the dirt following delivery and it looks a bit Mad Maxish. Would work well for deer camp. Really bad….
The hitch combination is Dead on arrival. From the looks of it it takes too much time to lineup and hook up.
Weight is ? Thanks
I love this RV. But I am 6"2" and I heard it has very low ceilings.
Take a look at the HQ12! Ceiling height of about 6'6" with the tent top open, and bed length to match. Not as cushy as a HQ19, though.
When you have to remind yourself that the tow vehicle is longer than the trailer :)

Without a backup camera, lining up that hitch looks like a divorce waiting to happen.
What, no swimsuit models for the car wash montage? Missed opportunity! Kidding, of course.

Not sure I like the spring on the pin. If your cotter pin gets knocked out it just jettisons itself.
Yeah I wonder why the spring at all? Curious if the manual explains it.
