    I added the PROVEN LOCK on my TT (2 5/16") after my truck was stolen for it's catalytic converter (subsequently recovered & fixed). As you say, it's an impressive piece of engineering and manufacturing and gives a huge sense of protection. I choked on the purchase price, but I've now forgotten that cost and impressed by the protection it provides.

    That SS pin with the Abloy cylinder could have the "small end" ground off with a 4 inch cordless side grinder with 1/16 inch cutting wheel in a matter of a few minutes. The small end needs better protection.

    I like the look of the Proven Lock. I would be interested in how much rattle or noise it makes when connected to a trailer. Seemed to have a lot of slack. And being it is a single pin that hitch ball part would move up and down with the trailer. especially when towing a empty trailer. Any thoughts?

  • @Drewbmw07
    @Drewbmw07 Год назад +1

    After a year of owning the hyper hitch it’s definitely held up extremely well. I own several drop hitches that has 2 pins for the ball mount. So I was a little concerned about only having 1 pin for the ball mount. Luckily this hitch is very well built & the 1 pin (with double locking feature) seems to be well built. Also it’s super convenient having the same key lock for both the ball mount & the receiver itself.

  • @steveharris1695

    In the wrecking yard we remove locking hitch pins with a 5' pipe. Slide the pipe over the lock end then snap the lock off. I will say that the proven looks a little tougher than most locking hitch pins. As you said a lock is there only to keep honest people honest.

    The fort knoxlocks as you call it is not a lock. Its a clam shell housing. The insecure Master you have hanging on it is the lock. if you want a good evaluation of the actual locks you should send them to Bosnial Bill and Lockpicking Lawyer. They are both RUclips contributors an would probably love to evaluate these. Be sure to send the Master Padlock you show on the Ft. Knoxlocks.

    Two years ago, LPL said this was a lock he would buy. A year ago, in video 953, it took LPL 30 seconds to drill the puck lock open with a simple electric drill because they used 303 stainless for the body instead of the hardened steel on the previous model. I hope LPL will test this latest version to see if they fixed the vulnerability. And before anyone says it, yeah I know, how many criminals are running around with a drill? Actually, the number is very high. Bear in mind it took LPL 30 seconds, yes, 30 seconds to get past this lock. On the other hand, that trailer lock is pretty good. Can it be defeated? Of course it can but a thief would probably look elsewhere for an easier target.
    Had to come back and add to my original comment. Turns out Proven did change the lock based upon LPL's 30 second demonstration last year of it being drilled open. If you have one of the vulnerable locks, you may want to change it.

    Are the cylinders hardened? Any lock you can get to with a drill bit can be opened in seconds if it’s not super hard. You can weld up the biggest baddest piece of steel you want, but if you secure it with a lock cylinder that can be drilled its got a big achillies heal. Your statement that locks keep honest people honest is one I have used for years. People that really want your stuff are not deterred by a lock.

    I’m no metallurgist but it seems that using only one stainless steel pin in the adjustable hitch vs the normal 2 big bolts is a weak design. I think stainless steel isn’t the strongest steel out there. You’re putting a lot of trust on that one pin. I would like to know the sheer strength of that pin as opposed to that of the normal 2 bolt.
