Let's be real here, if someone really wants to steal that trailer (not that I blame them looking at a Texas Pride dump trailer myself at the moment for the farm) lock won't stop them. The best you can hope is that the lock will slow them down enough to make the thief second guess their decision to take your trailer.

After a lot of research and then having my buddies Texas Pride dump trailer stolen, I went a different route. I took the mounting bolts off and drilled the holes in the channel that would be level for my truck, then took the actual coupler to the machine shop and had them align bore the coupler holes. Then I added two 3/4" grade 5 pins and retainers from TSC. Now, when I RON or am done with the dump trailer for a while, I pull the pins, and remove the entire coupler. No socket for a would be thief to engage. I guess they could tie the safety chains and let it drag down the road. Next step is to put GPS trackers on the dump and the new gooseneck equipment trailer.
    Keep the great videos coming.

We are so sorry for you wait and experience. Both for obvious reasons (delays related to Covid) and the fact that the RV market and other trailer markets exploded over the past 6 months, our family owned business was caught off guard in struggling to maintain stock. I am also sorry you felt we were snippy. We are still small enough to consider every customer as highly valued and we intend to keep that attitude as we grow. Unfortunately with the Curt style coupler (I'm assuming this was the case with you) there are some outlier dies out there they are stamped with a slightly taller bridge right behind the ball socket area and we are not able to identify those visually. I trust we were able to get your fit situation corrected.

    JD,
First off I just bought that socket set. Thanks for the recommendation!
Next, I have a question, with all the cordless tools available, what's to stop someone from taking a cordless grinder with a cutting wheel and cutting the bolt heads off on the other side then sliding the bolts out the lock side? I don't mean to be a party pooper here but if I needed to get that lock off I do believe I'd attack the weak link which appears to me to be the bolt heads. Am I missing something here? I think though that you were correct in that anyone who is a thief and really wants to break into a lock can do it. I believe that with locks you simply make your trailer more complicated than the one parked next to it and the thief will just simply move to the next trailer.
    Good review!!!
    Thanks,
    Pat

While he is really good at picking locks, he shows EXACTLY what the flaw is to everyone watching, which makes that goal attainable for anyone else. The goal in mind with hitch locks and pad locks on a trailer is to merely slow a thief down long enough for someone to notice they are attempting to steal your stuff.

Remember that a lock will just help slow down the thief. Someone who would want the trailer simply needs to purchase: www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DCG413R2-Brushless-Grinder-Kickback/dp/B074V31TBJ/ While it will be loud and take a bit, to grind off the heads is really pretty quick, pull them out the lock side.
