    This started long before the counter-culture movement of the 1960’s or 19th century liberalism. It started in Genesis Ch. 3. The first words out of Satan’s mouth began, “Did God actually say......?” A direct challenge to God’s word. Then a little later he says, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil”. Satan has never changed his playbook; a challenge to God’s word and a play on human pride and a desire to be God. Satan has presented it in different packaging throughout the ages but his challenge to God’s word and authority has remained consistent.

    He says “the church cannot align itself with the secular left or right“ yet all that he teaches is aligned with the Marxist left which is the secular left.
    Really, his real problem that he really despises and speaks about all the time is the fact that he doesn’t like the right that speaks against his Marxist thought coming into prominence in the Evangelical community, which it has since the 1980s.
    He sold out completely to the Marxist thought, and then points the finger at people of disagreed and calls them the secularist right when in reality people disagrees Marxism are lining up with Christianity because Christianity is the anti-Marks teaching that Marx sought to overthrow by his trying to rearrange the way that society saw the world.
    The guy is a clown and a fool for falling down that path, and I see no reason why anybody views him as a legitimate Christian when he’s following this darkness and promoting it to others, which will bring destruction not only to the faith of people, but the very nation in which he’s allowed to exist and the prosperity that he’s allowed to have, creating a Marxist elite in society that has credibility in the site of all these liberal preachers
    He is a sellout to Satan’s agenda parading as a Christian.
    Liberation theology is Satan’s plan for subverting the truth.
    Nothing he teaches is sound doctrine.

      Privilege doesn't mean you need to give something up. Would it help to think of it as being advantaged? Surely you wouldn't argue that people born in developed countries are more advantaged from the start than people born in impoverished countries. Privilege doesn't mean that you have had an easy time; it just means that a particular quality is not something you've struggled or been mistreated based on. So white privilege doesn't mean you've had an easy life; it just means that's not something you been mistreated based on. There is a plethora of things that can be either an advantage or disadvantage to you. Looking at all the factors together is what "intersectional" means. So it would be intersectional to understand that a wealthy black person with a good education and good health is likely to be better off than a disabled, uneducated white person who was born in impoverished appalachia. At the same time, that white person has probably not experienced racist discrimination while it is likely the black person has. The goal is not "oppression olympics" but understanding different factors that prevent everyone having a fair go at life. Playing your cards badly will still make you lose the game, but we want to make sure the deck is shuffled well so everyone has a fair chance.
      Fwiw, I have tons of problems with CRT but I do see the issues it purports to address and understand why so many want something to help with those. As Christians, we are uniquely qualified to help since we have Christ within us. So we should be speaking out and offering solutions rather than just criticising faulty solutions like CRT.

    I don't think many christians have a problem with this view necessarily. But there's a difference between how the words "social justice" are applied and what they imply. • @cat-bg3rv
      @cat-bg3rv Год назад +2

      But why is it called "social justice" anyway? Is this a term Christians should use in order to love those around them? Love and truth go together. The truth of Yahweh's Word. I believe it takes more than love to reach people. It takes the truth of the Gospel and the full written Word both Old and New Testaments. The Holy Spirit convicts hearts. We can only do so much. It becomes a works based faith if we feel that we have to work on the love part so much that we gain nothing. I realize that faith without works is dead. Discipleship. Discipline. Endurance. Lifestyle. These are examples that people look for, they see how you live. So, what is social justice? We should not use political terms that support an agenda or narrative to confuse people.

    Wow I didn't realize how bad he is. He's managed to cleverly squeeze his way into conservative and reformed circles, but he is a wolf. Keller cares more about creating his own version of Christianity more in line with his love of the world, all in the disguise of Christian compassion for the poor and suffering. That's how he can sneak in ideas of evil twisted men like Marx and Foucault who hated the God of Scripture. After watching this, I don't know how anyone can give him a platform or buy his works. This is really scary.

  • @christofferlindberg2287

    Personally, Keller has been one of my spiritual heroes. Growing up in Sweden where the church is marginal (and in large portions theologically liberal) he has helped deepen my understanding of the gospel in ways I am eternally grateful for. Understanding that the depth of my sin, the richness of God's grace and the centrality of the gospel in every area of life has been helpful to say the least. I have not found any other preacher which so clearly am able to speak to the heart and tear down whatever walls of pride or unbelief resides in there.
    Being politically aligned more to the right as I am (whether its Swedish or American politics) I have however never been led to believe that the left is somehow a superior position to take. Rather Keller has warned time and time again what political ideas (just as the ideas of other worldviews - whether political, religious or philosophical), lacking the gospel as they do, can do to harm. His way of challenging both sides of the political spectrum with a gospel which does not fit any current political ideologies makes a whole lot more sense both of the biblical accounts. I still lean towards the right, but with Keller's help I find the gospel itself much more attractive than any political alignment. If anything he is seeking a gospel-centered way of talking about politics, which of course does not fit what this world's philosophies can conjure.
    Am I the end result you worry of when claiming Keller is a false teacher (or at the very least compromised)? I read his books, listen to many of his sermons and talks and live in a country where what you call "leftism" and "liberal theology" is a lot more common than in the U.S. and still find myself critical of these ideas rather than impressed by them with the help of Keller.

    a position paper was written entitled "The Social Gospel." It said something about Christians having to become involved in the issues of the day and making Christ relevant in those issues.
    Immediately, that position paper produced a dichotomy. On one hand there were those who said, "No, we are not called to be involved in social issues; we are called to preach the gospel." On the other hand, another group said, "No, our position is to feed hungry people, feed empty bellies, put clothes on people's backs." And the more the fundamentalists said, "Preach the gospel," the more the liberals said, "Feed people." All the prophetic books of the Bible deal with this as does Jesus Himself. I am not pro abortion, but we live in an imperfect world. Our pastors & teachers should be shepherding the flock...they were more interested in planting another church or sending out missionaries trained under their leadership. I always felt challenged even though I served “religiously “ but never blessed. I saw many marriages broken because there was not good counseling available. Truly made me weary to be a part of this church.

    I first heard of Keller when a suitemate had _The Reason for God_ in the room, which I briefly perused. His weaksauce big-bang-proves-the-Bible cosmology (which William Lane Craig also pushes) is the first red flag. As with women preachers, these things are so explicit that even if they're "non-essentials," if you compromise and deny what the Word so clearly teaches, you are not submitting to God's Word and you will either one day repent of your compromise or fall away from the truth. The dissonance cannot continue forever. Someone who believes in evolution is ultimately not a trustworthy teacher.

The addition of that mandate of a need to create equality with Christianity creates something other than Christianity.

I've no idea why so many professing christians regard justice with so much disdain. They're happy to say they'll pray for someone but run a mile if they're asked to contribute practically. Not only is justice a truly biblical concept, it's also one of God's inherent and immutable characteristics. If you disagree then your argument is against God himself. I've heard a vast amount of Keller's sermons and he almost always brings his message right back to the Gospel, regardless of the subject matter. I've seen nothing in this video which I feel is in any way antithetical to the centrality of the Gospel. I do doubt much of the veracity of the video's content and unsupported claims. You know the doctrines Paul said we are to have GRACE with. The things he does are not salvation issues. And Keller has won thousands of souls for the Lord. You don't have to agree with everything he believes. And you ASSUME that I do- which is why assuming makes a person a fool because you are 100% wrong. I actually strongly disagree with many things he teaches but I realize they are issues that we are to give grace on and are non salvation issues. Your heart is heardened and you have lost sight of what it means to be a Christian and what our calling truly is. And calling good Christian men "snakes" because you disagree on secondary issues is extremely sad behavior. It requires repentance and prayer to soften your heart and understand what being a Christian really means. You have fallen victim to the political game happening in the USA. You have fallen victim to binary thinking. Just because someone has a different belief on a secondary issue you think they are the enemy and you attack them even though they beleive that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh. The sinless Son of God and God Himself. Who died on the cross for the sins of the world. And 3 days later was the resurrection that brings us life and covers our sins. So that whoever believes and places their faith in Him shall have eternal life. THAT is the gospel. That is foundational. Everything else is secondary and is to be taken with grace.
      Tell me if I am wrong what exactly does it take to be a Christian? Make the list of what the belief that Keller has that makes him not a Christian. Or a "snake" in your view. What does he beleive that means he is going to go to he'll because he beleives it? And back it up with scripture or else it is meaningless

He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour”. Luke 4 quoting Is 61 And what does Is 58 say? “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
    Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear”. Let us look beyond the ‘isms’ and see with the eyes of Jesus who seeks to set the whole person free, to transform lives in all respects from the inside out and starting in this life. “I came that they may have life.....and abundantly” John 10.10. • @christianstudiesprogram731
    @christianstudiesprogram731 3 года назад +7

    I really don't know much about Tim Keller. My first exposure was a video series introducing his "City to City" program. I was so unhappy with the theology he promoted in that series that I dropped out of the Bible study group (after attending it for 9 years!). Last year, I encountered an attempt to jump start a "City to City" movement in the country where I teach university (not in the USA), but I felt this movement was ill-suited for our Christian Community (and still strongly feel that way) and stayed far away from it.
    Having said that, I hope that this disturbing video presentation is not altogether true. It's hard for me to believe that someone who is so highly respected could be a post-modern semi-Marxist proponent of quasi liberation theology and still be praised by so many evangelicals. I cannot imagine that Keller's co-worker D.A. Carson is a closet semi-communist/liberation/existentialist theologian (after all, Carson's "The Gagging of God" or his "The Intolerance of Intolerance" seem to go against this).
    So I hope that people watching this video will INVESTIGATE to see if the allegations are accurate. I don't know if the claims here are true or not, but I suspect they probably are NOT. At least, I would hope they aren't.

      My church was planted by Redeemer. A team came to my city. They follow his books, the City to City community engagement trainings, racial justice, housing justice, they have a Minister of Justice, food justice to end racist farming, etc. They became buddies with Marxist activist groups and local politicians to get them to pass laws for diversity, equity, inclusion, and to get them to pass laws to redistribute wealth and privileges from Oppressors to the Victims of Oppression. (Yes it’s in capital letters in the newsletters and flyers). They are investing in community land trusts to have collectively owned land, and making sure to only provide vegan food to the poor at the food bank because God gave us the plants for our health and to save the environment. I guess Jesus would not be welcome for eating fish for breakfast.
      I left when I saw how crazy it became. Like Redeemer, my church never had a prayer meeting! How can a church not have a prayer meeting?! And they did not evangelize. No gospel preaching on any of these useless justice projects. Just a bag of lentils with an onion and brown rice - no chicken, eggs, or milk for the children, and never an offer to pray for them or give them a children’s Bible book. When my friends and I would go pray for people in the playgrounds or the beach and offer tracts or little gospel booklets (gospel of John), they didn’t encourage us. We asked can the church make tracts for us to share so we can invite people but they said no, give them our business card. No ministry was birthed through prayer. It’s just well dressed Marxism and rich white liberals patting themselves on the back for living among us poor dark people. Phony, cold, fakes.

    I’ve listened to many of Keller’s sermons and read many of his books. He is orthodox in much of his theology. I want to be careful not to misrepresent him. Lately though, I’ve come to see him in a different light.
    This documentary was in some ways not too surprising to me the way it would’ve been several years ago. Keller loomed large for me in the Christian world; he was probably my favorite pastor. But now he seems blinded by the kind of biases built into the truth-power dynamic he preaches against. His own take on the Christian worldview is itself formed by postmodern thinkers he seemed to faintly critique.
    Keller believes in objective truth and biblical authority. Unfortunately, how he understands that truth has been shaped by radical liberation thinkers. Ironically, his views are themselves culturally constructed by the “Christian” counter-culture he embraced in his youth. He has been promoting those views under the guise of a theologically conservative thinker to Christians who consider themselves firmly grounded in orthodoxy.
    We should pray for them and for Keller to repent.

    I knew all this since 2013. I got saved in 2012, and I attended the Redeemer from 2008 to 2013 and I remember why I left....after I got saved in 2012, a true and radical transformation, a new creation came over me. I was born again.After that wonderful experience and being on fired for the LORD, I kept going to Redeemer bc it was the only church I knew. But for a whole year something was bothering me, Tim Kellers message is off base. It was the same theme, a social gospel that celebrated this urban professional ivy league coolness. Sermons were mostly about Hollywood movies or Star Wars or the Lord of the Rings, or Nytimes article about the City...basically no sermons about the King of Kings, the Son of GOD, the Holiness and Reverence and majesty of Jesus Christ and the outpouring of his Grace and Mercy to sinners. But a workshop, a seminar, a lecture on how to help your city. How to be a better citizen to your city neighbors and your fellow citizens in need. Salvation, the blood of Jesus, the cross, the sacrifice, sin, or carrying your cross, was just an after thought. Yes Jesus was preached but usually mentioned towards the end, the last 5 mins of the sermon when Tim Keller would remind us of this urban Jesus. Finally after a year, I remember walking in early at the 5pm Sunday sermon - I sat down and as the worship music started - I felt the spirit of GOD, or the Holy Spirit tell me....get out, GOD is not here. You dont belong here. That is the truth, and til this day I wont forget what I felt on my chest and what I heard. It was not audible, it came thru my thoughts, and my chest started pounding, telling me you will not find GOD at this church. That moment still haunts me. I finally left, and never went back. Eventually, I joined a small folksy fire and brimestone church....where Jesus was glorified with simple words, no intellect, no bourgousie city hipster Nytimes liberal yoda like arrogance of Christian humanism that stressed Marxist views. A small church and congregation that preached the biblical Jesus, and the fear of the Lord, and the Mercy of HIS son. My conclusion -I dont think Tim Keller is in a good place. Im sorry, but if his teachings are correct and true, then the gospel is a lie...and we are all wasting our time, repenting, and walking with Jesus in obedience Tim Keller was not an agent of GOD. Now, more than ever I realize how some of those bone chilling verses are real, GOD is not kidding around, it's not a joke....few are chosen. Narrow is the path to life, and few are on it.

    One thing that I reckon the church needs to deal with is that some of the men entering the ministry have been to civil government owned schools or have had liberal religious upbringing, rather than being well catechised in the Reformed religion. Then they enter theological colleges - I think you call them seminaries in the US - with an unbiblical worldview. We would be naive to think that they will all change their views to thoroughly scriptural ones at the seminary, so Presbyteries need to be wise and faithful in who they accept as candidates and who they ordain.

    I think the maxim of "all truth is God's truth" has caused some confusion here. Keller would quote Foucault, Marx, Nietzsche, and others, not to say that they had "THE" truth, but to say that they saw some things correctly. He was always careful to decry the actual ideologies themselves, at least he was when I heard him preach. Finding truth in areas that his audience was familiar with, thus showing commonalities and building a case for God in terms they could understand. Maybe I'm missing something but I always appreciated his being so well-read and aware of the zeitgeists that were moving the culture around us.
