When I was a member of Oak Hills Church, I noticed Max had signed a public statement supporting the Life Chain that is held each year in October to peacefully protest and pray against the sin of abortion. After a Wednesday evening prayer service, I approached Max about having getting permission to set up a table in the foyer where people could sign up to be part of the Life Chain later that year. He refused to help and simply referred me to the calendar committee, which required 6 months notice of any event. I had only 2 months notice. Needless to say that got nixed and I never did see Max and his family actually promote or participate in the Life Chain. So your point is very well taken!

After thirty years, I left Evangelicalism, mostly because I was not "in" enough for it. To be "in" you have to attend the right seminary, have the right friends, get vetted by the right committees, and be let in through the right stage door. Otherwise, if you behave yourself, you can come in the front door and watch the show. The show is over. Let us take up our cross and follow Jesus outside the city (and religious establishment). Jesus is our chief shepherd and teacher.

    • @prince6a
      @prince6a 3 года назад +1

John Fixsen I’m not sure what you mean that you followed evangelicalism. I became a Christian to follow Jesus. To evangelize means to present the good news. That’s what the word means. It’s an adjective to describe the prime objective given by our Lord, sometimes called the great commission. All Christians are evangelical therefore in theory. It’s good to be involved with believers who are like-minded, no matter what denomination. Evangelicalism is not a denomination per se. Follow Jesus and associate with those who love Jesus. Dissociate from toxic people no matter where they are.

In doing so--as you implied, you will find many who have believed God's message concerning Jesus of Nazareth who are not under the banner of Evangelicalism. The show is over.

The Lord has blessed us with friends of every color and nationality. I have white FAMILY who have sacrificed so much for me and showered me with love. It breaks my heart to see and hear that the white race which includes my friends and family are now guilty of privilege and have to ask for forgiveness for sins that have nothing to do with them. Thanks for this commentary. The last 10 minutes were so helpful in explaining what is going in with the pastors. Myself and my family has been so shocked and in kind of a grieving process with our church shut down and now all of the virtue signaling. It just "feels" like something is very "off" since so many are following the narratives and trends of the media. Those of us who have chosen smaller congregations were not expecting this. I've been volunteering heavily in my church for for whole life and I feel kind of left out in the cold here, confused about all of this.

This is amazing. 570 comments so far and while most have been related to the video questioning what happened to Lucado, this has been all over the place, which I guess is fine. I'm not the RUclips police and its not my channel. Let me start by saying that I get things wrong all the time. I am a sinner but am forgiven. I also have grown in my faith over the years to the point where I have a more complete understanding on certain topics than I did say 20 years ago. If you think you know it all and have "arrived" at all the truths, you have been deceived. No one this side of heaven except for Jesus himself can claim to have done so. if you are a Christian, the most important thing to you should be sharing the reason for the hope that you have because of the gift of salvation. This truth should influence everything you say and do,
    1. First and foremost, If someone that is not a Christian has stumbled upon these 570 comments, I would be shocked if this has in any way done anything to bring them closer to the saving grace of Jesus. The overriding feeling I get from reading most of the comments is division, unkindness and a lack of unity. Jesus says in John 13:35 "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” There's very little that's attractive in all of this.
    2. I grew up Church of Christ (the same group that Lucado associated with and preached in for years) and graduated from one of the "C of C" colleges. I learned a long time ago that the Church is much larger than this small affiliated group of churches and there are many wise, highly educated and Godly Christians "outside" of the Churches of Christ. I don't have any regrets for my church upbringing and I am thankful for the foundation it provided, but my spiritual growth did not take place within the walls of those church buildings. Don't depend on your church, preacher, pastor or priest to grow your faith. It's YOUR faith, own it.
    3. Regarding Max Lucado (since this is what the video was ultimately about). I don't know the man. Some of you that commented do so you are more entitled to an opinion. I have many of his books and found them to be very refreshing and in ALL cases, his books that I have point you to the cross and encourage a personal relationship with Jesus. I for one love that. It all about Jesus, not any one church, denomination, preacher or church leader. Has Max made a good living off of his books? Probably. There is nothing wrong that. There have been many wealthy God fearing people over the course of history. Unless you are in his inner circle, you don't know his motives, intentions or what he does with his money. Maybe God has blessed him financially and Max uses these financial blessings to further the kingdom. I don't know, but to come to conclusions without facts is unfair.
    4. Lucado's participation in events that extend beyond the church affiliation that he is a part of in my opinion is exactly what we are called to do. Note I didn't say taking a position contrary to God's character or His desires for us is acceptable. Jesus prayed for oneness in John 17 before going to the cross. If he was sweating blood on that dreadful night, can you imagine what he is feeling now when he looks at the division among his believers? News flash, if you believe in the empty tomb, have accepted his gift of salvation by faith, confessed for and repented of your sins and have been baptized to receive the Holy Spirit and to publicly announce your acceptance of Jesus' lordship, then you are in the kingdom. The book of life has your name in it, not the church you attend or your position on pre ,post, mid millenialism, speaking in tongues, or any other non-salvation issue that we use to separate ourselves. So sad. The church extends well beyond what you (and me) have experienced as the "right way" to do church.
    5. Lucado associating with those that we feel are in error or are on the "wrong side of the fence"- yep he probably has and so have you and I. Again, I don't know the man and I truly hope his faith has not gotten watered down over the years. Maybe it has, maybe not. Maybe his actions of inclusion are intentional to influence and be a light to those that may be "in error". I am reminded of the story in Acts 18 about Apollos who was teaching in error. You can read that on your own. Another news flash: as sinners, WE ARE ALL IN ERROR. If you have been a Christian for a while and you still believe everything just as you did the day you were saved, then you are not growing in Christ.
    6. Lastly, it may seem like it but I am not coming to Max Lucado's defense. I can't defend him because I don't know him. I don't know what's in his heart and he doesn't need me or anyone to defend him. Are we called to discern? Absolutely. If his heart is pure, God has his back and that is all he needs. The point of all my rambling is let's be the church. Time is short. Jesus is coming back and there are a lot of lost souls out there that need to hear the good news. You (and me) may be their only chance to hear about the hope we have in us that leads to salvation. I apologize for being so lengthy. I seldom post anything, but just felt compelled to share my thoughts on this.
I leave you with a couple of verses that are of hallmark importance to me: Micah 6:8 - "What does the lord require of you, but to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God" and Matthew 22:37-39 "“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
May God bless each and every one of you as you strive to be like Christ in all you do. Love covers a multitude of sins and thank God for that. Keep on loving.......

Have we, as Christians, forgotten that our mortal enemy is the “Father of Lies” and the “Deceiver”? Perhaps it is our pride that causes us to let our guard down and we are wide open to accepting deception. If the enemy cannot convince a believer to accept a gross heresy, wouldn’t he be satisfied to sneak in a little leaven that begins to work on the whole and eventually corrupts in the same way? Matthew 7:13-14 says, “But small is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life, and few will find it.” If we take one small step off that narrow path and keep walking, pretty soon we look back and can’t even see that narrow path. Every step is important and should be covered in prayer and humbly checked that it is in conformity to the revealed Word of God.

I just read the comments of many christians criticizing and ridiculing pastor Lucado...so sad..
As christians we have a responsibility to pray for people and Love them, not judge them. If they have bad teaching, then acknowledge it and move on. And if someone asks you about the person, tell them what you think, but don't personally attack them. There is a difference between being critical about a person's ministry and attacking the actual person.
If you feel someone is teaching deception, assuming you are right, then the person is deceived and needs our prayers of Love. The Bible tells us that Love is the greatest virtue. and it never fails.
Jesus met us where we were at, while we were still yet sinners, He died for us. To measure some sin as greater than another is not biblical. All sin no matter how little or how "big" will send you to hell without Christ. But Jesus came into our lives while we were in lives of sin, while we were deceived and deceivers.
If Max Lucado is teaching deception, then He needs to be presented with the true Jesus. Jesus hung out with sinners and met them while they were still in sin and deception.
I truly hope and pray that Max Lucado will have an encounter with Jesus that will show him who Jesus really is and what to teach about Him.
    Blessings,

Sorry but your comment of not judging them is not scriptural. If it is about opinions like whether to eat meat, drink alcohol, special days, etc then there's no judgment; you must make up your own mind. However, regarding everything else, we are to be judged according to the word of God. Paul said the Bereans were nobler than the Thessalonians because they tested i.e. judged, everything he said against the scriptures. Jesus said you shall know them by their fruit. Is their fruit Biblical or not? Jesus also said do not judge according to appearance but dso judge righteous judgment. The apostle John said to test i.e. judge, the spirits to see whether they are of God. And it goes on and on. Yes, we should always be praying when doing it, but we also need to warn others if the person is teaching falsely. The problem is Lucado is now advocating Marxists (i.e. Satanist) doctrine, that whites (as a group) are responsible for the horrors of slavery/racism, when God said in Ezekiel that the son is not responsible for the sins of the father and vice versa; each is responsible for their own sin and the solution is Jesus Christ.

Paul judged Peter pretty fiercely and publically and gave him a verbal beat down for his good and the good of the church right in front of others and to his face. It had such an Impact that Peter later said in his 2nd book 2 Peter 3:14Therefore, beloved, as you anticipate these things, make every effort to be found at peace-spotless and blameless in His sight.f
15Consider also that our Lord’s patience brings salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom God gave him. 16He writes this way in all his letters,g speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his letters are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort,h as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction."
So basically he gives Paul a big nod and thank you for his wisdom. Teachers are and must be held to an even higher standard than a member of the church according to the scriptures (see letters to Timothy and Titus).

@@berean700 My comment is based on the Bible and I will you explain why.
There is a difference between holding someone accountable and being judgmental.
Accountability is holding someone to the standard of Scripture that you know without a reasonable doubt they have broken, and it often comes with permission. Being judgmental is pinpointing, talking about, criticizing, and making assumptions about what is hidden in the heart of a person and their intentions.
Although we are called to right judgment of explicit sin, we must not confuse it with being judgmental. A judgmental spirit is a critical spirit which is in direct contradiction to what the Bible teaches about building up the church. Wrongful judgment can turn into slander, tearing down others, or unnecessary arguments. The verse “judge not” I referenced in my comment comes from one of Jesus’ teachings in the Bible in the book of The Gospel of Matthew.
Matthew 7:1-2 Jesus says, “Judge not, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.. In the first 2 sentences Jesus gives a very clear statement…“judge not” and then He gives a clear reason why “or you too will be judged...” Jesus’ command to not judge others is given as a motivation for us to avoid judgment ourselves..
Jesus didn’t teach against judging. He taught against a specific kind of judging. The type of judging he spoke against was a blind, ignorant, hypocritical, self-righteous judging that overlooks one’s own faults, failures and sins and only sees faults, failures and sins in other people. The issue Jesus is going after is the pride that was in the people’s hearts which made it easy for them to see other people’s faults, but be blinded to their own.
Jesus wasn’t telling people not to judge. He was telling people not to be a hypocrite when you judge. He’d been speaking to a crowd about what true righteousness is. He’d been talking about issues of the heart and about what makes a person pleasing before God. He was teaching against people having a critical, condemning, self-righteous, judgmental attitude toward other people
That kind of judgmentalism was found in the hearts of many of the religious leaders of Jesus’ day and among the crowd who was listening. And if we’re honest, it’s an attitude that’s present in our own hearts.
If we’re honest, we find ourselves being critical people by nature. We tend to think that we see things rightly and that others are wrong. We tend to think that our reasonings and our perspectives are at least just a little better than people we disagree with. We seem to be quick to find fault and condemn people.
Jesus was under no illusion that speaking truth to other people was a bad or unloving thing. He never intended to prevent His people from making insightful, wise and accurate judgments about situations or about each other. No, He knows that we were created to speak truth into each other’s lives. Truth is a good thing.
We should take careful watch over our mouths and minds
As we seek to judge rightly, we should do so slowly, and with “unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind” (1 Peter 3:8-12).
Harsh, unforgiving judgment is wrong. We are “always to be gentle toward everyone” (Titus 3:2)
And as I said in my previous comment, it is very sad to see how so many Christians judge without love ...
Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love - but the greatest of these is love.
      1 Corinthians 13:13
      Blessings..

Amen. This is what I've been saying since they began using the "oppressed" rational for CRT. No one owns oppression and I would drill down farther that just a group. Every single person experiences oppression in some way from someone. A race isn't unique to that phenomenon. That oppression might be being bullied in school, oppression at work, from family, etc. Every person experiences this in some way at some point in their life. That doesn't give any one of us special priviledges or the claim that one group is special because of it or another group is to blame for it. Blame for oppression happens at the individual level, not "groups."

I think as far as Black Lives Matter goes when pertaining to matters of the church, you have to as an individual DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. Yes Black lives do matter. The organization Black Lives Matter is not something that lines up with Christian values but many people fail to educate themselves on knowing the difference. If we are honest with ourselves and ask The Holy Spirit to lead us, it is very clear that equality for all is something that is not genuinely true in this nation and unfortunately the church has done a faulty job at being different in this aspect. The Black Lives Matter "issue" isn't only a social justice issue, for Christians IT IS A HEART ISSUE. The phrase "black lives matter", means Black lives are just important as everyone else and should be treated as such. However, one will never understand that point if they choose to remain ignorant to the structures that have been set up in place against black people from the very start on this nation that was stolen from it's Native people. The church needs to continue to talk about this (yes it's difficult and yes it can get messy, but so is sin). In some ways having these types of discussions will be able to gain people to Christ. Some people don't care what you know until they know you care. Making an attempt to learn more about someone who is different from you is an example of love. Understanding and picturing yourself in the shoes they walk in is an example of Love. Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart mind and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself (Heart Issue).

What is the scripture that separates the "ceremonial" law out from the rest. God is calling his church back to his word.
