Excellent review as always, Will. And great observation that it's easy to be deceived by the plush/muted feel into thinking this is a control-only paddle, and understimate its power. Same with the Apes Pro Line Energy. I do love this combo of plush/powerful though. I also love the observation that the Legacy-style peel ply (fine texture) is harder to get spin at the kitchen with flicks, etc. than the coarser grits. I remember you and I texting about the plush feel of the R3 right after we got the demos a few months ago. It's cool that we've both used it pretty extensively since. And thanks for the mentions!
Been playing with the pulsar 3.16 mm and love it since day 1 ….resets easy and spin is incredible …not a power player but power and pop more than adequate ….little wear on face but using eraser daily to keep it clean Great value and moving to gen 2 thermoform …very plush feel
Hey will totally agree with you I enjoy that feedback and need it so I’m going with a 14mm DBD to get more pop and I’m staying away from the plush pillow feeling paddles.
I agree with your thoughts on the R3, DBD, etc. having amazing spin for drives and baseline/mid-volley zone full swings vs. softer strokes near the kitchen. I'm a huge fan of my DBD and the topspin it can generate, I think the low/middle swing weight of 115 keeps it fast enough at the kitchen for hand battles which I enjoy vs. going up to a 120+ swing weight class of paddles
Loving the pulslar r3.. still a rough transition from a soft, gearbox cx14.. but the power overall is amazing compared to that. Very curious, have you tried the Pickelball apes paddle? Looking to try their hybrid shape, which is very close to elongated, when it comes out.
Great vid Will! Just wondered what happened to the Legacy Pro. I thought that was unreal from your initial review. how does it compare to all the newer paddles that have come out in the last 6 months.
Mine eventually delaminated and I just never got a replacement. Still a solid paddle but it’s like every other thermo to me now. It got rave reviews because it was my first thermo paddle I ever played with. I think there are better or more comparable options now depending on what you are looking for. I will say that Legacy Pro S shape is pretty sweet though
😅 Great content, as always. Have seen a few reviews about the Muvn Gruvn 13s being a control paddle. This surprised me given the paddles thickness. I do like the standard shape. What are your thoughts about the Gruvn's power vs control? Thanks.
Good info Will. I also shifted away from the Prodrive Carbon (great power paddle) to a simple Selkirk Halo 13mm Max (standard shape) and absolutely love it for doubles. I am noticing that lighter, standard shaped, smaller grip circumference, and shorter handle length paddles have significantly improved my doubles game. Lighter and smaller grip circumference makes a big difference for me when it comes to feel and making small grip adjustments to angle the ball here and there during spinny dinks. Right now: Selkirk Halo, Joola Scorpeus Anna Bright with the new light version Engage and the new 18k Edge Diadem on the way. The lighter the better for me. Any thoughts or other suggestions?
More powerful with a bit more feel. The trajectory of the ball also comes off the face at a higher angle with my swing i've noticed when compared to the NOVA
@@PickleballWillMost people would have already seen other channel's review on this already. Just a fan, want to see some new/good content from you. Been missing your videos as yours are funny and entertaining compared to all the other pickleball channels.
@@PickleballWillnever mind him Will. I prefer a good review of a paddle that you have a lot more experience with than those that do a review of a paddle they used only for a couple of weeks.
I wonder how transitioning from my R3.16 gonna be like to the R3 Pulsar? 🤔 i luv my R3.16 but i'd like a 2nd paddle to compliment it but I'm conflicted between the R3 Pulsar and the Volair Forza 16mm or 14mm. Any suggestions?
You mentioned the Scorpeus in this video and I'm wondering, how does the Scorpeus compare to the Solaire? I assume that paddle is meant to be the gen2 version of the Solaire which I thought was a great and often overlooked paddle due to it's standard shape.
Scorpeus 14mm feels more maneuverable and has a bit more feedback when striking the ball than the Solaire imho. Solaire still a great paddle though. Before the release of the Scorpeus and Perseus i personally felt like the Solaire was Joola's best paddle

Me too all my paddles are 14-13mm...
Great review! I find myself going back and forth between my R3 Pulsar and my B&B Filth. I can’t settle on one or the other.

I'm actually loving the Nova! Less power, but even more control
Wondered about this as well.
I like the simple design.
Great review Will. Looking forward to hearing more about the Gruvn Muvn 13s. Do you plan to release a review for that one?
Yea probably a first look. Its a favorite of mine

Yes the Apes Pro Line Energy in the elongated shape is probably in my top 10. Really enjoy playing with that one

@@PickleballWill Thanks for your explanation! I enjoy your reviews and your Pros versus Joes vids the most. Keep up the great work!

Always on point!
Great review as usual Will !
Just wondering why the video description says "Eva Foam paddle", Pulsar isn't .. right ?
That was a mistake. Copied my description from the wrong Ronbus script I wrote for that video. Thanks for the catch
Is Gruvn muvn that good? Worried about going to non elongated but hearing good things.
Both Chris and I really enjoy it

Zane’s ProXR and if you like the Scorpeus 14mm check out the MUVN 13S. Both these are very maneuverable and fast
@@PickleballWill Great... thx for these recommendations. I will look the ProXR and MUVN 13S as well.
Great review Will. How does the R3 compare to the NOVA?

Awesome review Will! Totally agree with your thoughts and love your description on power vs pop.
What paddles with more “feel” have you preferred using?
It's been the filth, prism flash, MUVN 13S
Pickleball Will like, "Or the Double Black Diamond from Sick Zero".
Will, what's up with your channel lately? Older videos (even though it's a new upload, it's old stuff). Like this R3 Pulsar, a little late?
Is that a problem? Would it make you feel better if I said this was a long term review

Will, can you tell us the difference between Anna Bright 14mm vs Muvn 13s? Thank you!
MUVN13s = a bit more faster in the hand, a bit more pop
Anna Bright Scorpeus 14mm = more touch, more spin
Have you heard of the neonic paddle?
Will,
Since you are moving towards standard shape, are you not doing 2-hand backhand?
Nah I still do the 2BH but I'm incorporating the 1BH more now too. I still would like the slightly longer handle to help with the 2BH
Is your video description a hint at what's to come? 👀think it's for a different paddle haha
Great stuff. Need help. R3 Pulsar or R3 Nova? Thanks!
R3 Pulsar would be my choice
I’m guessing you’ll really like the R3 Nova lesser swingweight
Potentially!

R3 Pulsar if you want something that feels a bit more solid and plush feeling, Forza if you want that more crisp feedback
Will, which one do you like the most between the DbD 14, BD 16, and prism flash 14?
Prism Flash 14
@@PickleballWill disregarding prices, you like the performance characteristics of the prism flash 14 better than the other ones?

How would you compare this to the R1 pulsar ?
The R3 Pulsar is a slightly head heavier more powerful version of the R1 Pulsar
Noticed a pulsar using friend had a Nova yesterday. Said he core-rupted 2 Pulsars (which he went to after doing it to at least 2 CRBNs).
He too strong 💪
@@PickleballWill yeah, he can, and likes to, spank that ball for sure. Maybe not in par with Chris’ Delaminator, but definitely up there.
