    The implied durability is the best sales feature IMO. Very close to top tier performance, but, not gonna break over the long haul. That adds the most value right there. Thanks for the review!

    Thanks for the review. Looks like another excellent product from Ronbus. With so many paddles to choose from, and with higher prices, one could go nuts and go broke testing and buying paddles. I am lifelong tennis player and for now I will stick with the Ronbus R1.16. I add a little lead tape and generate plenty of power, have great feel and control (love the spin factor), and get enough pop to finish points. All that for $100 after discount is hard to beat.

    Great video. I moved up from a CRBN1 to the Pulsar R1 but found it was a bit too stiff and powerful for me, so then I went to the Prism Flash V7 which is great for control but doesn’t have enough power. So even though you said you wouldn’t recommend getting rid of either of these paddles, I’’m going to buy the R1 Nova because I feel it solves the problems I’ve experienced with the other two paddles. Eventually I will sell the others if I’m happy with the Nova. Thanks again.

    It's a good analysis and marketing pitch but not a fix. Full thermoforming around edges doesn't create an air tight seal so making open grid thermoformed edges doesn't solve the problem. Each honeycomb panel polycore cell is like a sealed bubble which is why each bubbled cell bursting and deteriorating is the cause of paddle breakdown. To prove my point, if there were pressure that needed to escape, all thermoformed paddles have an opening at the bottom butt of the handle and the air or pressure could escape through there.

    Was looking forward to the reviews on the Nova, currently I have found a happy spot with the Ronbus R3 Pulsar, and little heavier in swing weight, but it seems to suit my game for control, and power/pop. I found the 6.0 DBD at bit too much as popping up and hitting out control took a bit much to adapt to.

    You need to give the Hisk paddle a test drive. It's of similar construction to the Prism Flash but with the shape of the R1. At its current price of $60 ($70 - 15%) on AMZ it's the best deal currently on the market. Only negative is that it comes stock with a ridged grip.

    Another great review Chris. Their is a grouping of paddles including the Double Black Diamond, the Vatic Prism, the Pulsars , the Volaire Forza and now the Nova with its new but still untested technology upgrade. I have only tried the Vatic Prism and the Volair Forza because I prefer a 14MM paddle that Rombus does not offer. I still do not care for the refund policy of the Rombus which will not let you demo a paddle. Same as the Vatic and Six Zero. But Volair is a no questions asked 30 day refund. Amazon may provide loopholes on this. In my experience the Volair was much different than the highly acclaimed Vatic. Much better pop and control. Why am I commenting on this review; because I believe the Volair Forza is a paddle that for some reason does not get the coverage the the Rombus products and Six Zero do for such a comparably good paddle. It was interesting that you held up the two paddles in your introduction. And of course it would get very costly to try out 5 different paddles with most requiring they be unused to return for a full refund. All these paddles have a lot of compression in playability with the Vatic Prism definitely having the price advantage. I also felt the Volair was more elbow friendly than the Vatic. So I still believe that refund policy for the ability to trial and the offering of both 14mm and 16mm is an important distinction as well as warranty. I gave away to a friend my Vatic and am very satisfied with the Volair. Thank Chris for the great work you do.

      "untested technology upgrade" might not be fair ... Dong ran at least one 10,000 cycle impact test equivalent to almost 4-times the speed of the typical 40mph serve (see John Kew's review and the Ronbus paper posted at Chris' website). I do wish Ronbus would offer 4.25" grip sizing - that's what's keeping me from considering the Nova.

    • @PickleballStudio
      @PickleballStudio  Год назад +3

      I’ve commented many, many times on the channel about the Volair.
      Even made an Instagram video about the Volair.
      Maybe I’ll cover it just so people have the info.
      It plays very similar, if not identical to a Ronbus R1 Pulsar. Considering the Mach 1 16mm was the same as a Ronbus, I would not be surprised if the same held true for the Forza based on passed history.
      So, that is to say, if you want Forza info, my Pulsar video should cover the details you want.
      In summary it would be:
      Forza is a softer thermoformed paddle, very, very high spin, solid power but not top tier. The Volair Forza is a better value than the Ronbus because of the extras in the box (eraser, grip, head over, band etc). If a 14mm is important? Volair is the hands down winner since Ronbus doesn’t do any thinner paddles.
      It’s a good paddle (16mm). I even won a tournament with it. I just don’t see a reason to make an entire video to say that it plays like a Pulsar, when there are other paddles that people want and are unique.

    Great video Chris. It's been a great morning with four Nova Videos hitting at the same time. I have the R1 Pulsar and really like it. I think I would stay with the Pulsar for my next paddle, but the core crushing fix is appealing. What would you estimate the swing weight to be with just lead tape at the 9 and 3 locations like you had it? I'm really liking the lower swing weight at the same levels as you like it. For me it's the most important factor. It has to be a good feeling for you to know people are waiting on your video to decide whether they want to buy a paddle or not. Another great video!!!!

Really love the legacy but feel like it’s worn down and spin isn’t quite where I like it also looking for a bit more control too. I’m stuck between the R1 Pulsar, Volair Forza or a DBD 16 or 14. Any thoughts?I don’t want to sacrifice too much power or spin but I am looking for a bit more control and speed at net than what I’m playing with.

  • @KerryJohnson-en1us

    The core crushing explanation does not make sense to me. Every cell of the honeycomb core is an air pocket, and much larger than any microscopic air pocket between the face and core. The only path for pressurized air to escape would be between the core and the face layers. When everything is being squeezed under pressure and the resins are melting together and bonding to the core while in the mold we are supposed to believe that the air can escape between layers and make its way to the edge where it can escape through the uncovered edge foam. I don’t buy it. What is the thermoforming temperature compared to the poly core heat rating? I was under the impression that poly is rated to 350 F while the thermoforming process is at 500 F. Seems much more likely that the poly core is being compromised by the thermoforming process temperature.

    Ronbus' description of thermoforming raised more questions than it answered for me. It seems to me like gen 2 paddles have nothing but foam on the edges to hinder the passing of the compressed air. Are they adding carbon around the edges as well? I don't understand how adding more material (Ronbus' edge grid) is helping solve this problem. Help

    • @92Raulb
      @92Raulb 10 месяцев назад

      They actually add less material so gen 2 is a fully sealed carbon edge filled with foam where as the ronbus is a carbon kind of like checkerboard with holes in it to let air escape in the heating process so its actually less material in the edge

      I'd recommend the SLK Halo. The difference will be close to negligible to most players (even experienced 4.0s) and the SLK will have a better post-purchase experience in my opinion. I play a Legacy and am happy but probably would probably just recommend a mid tier SLK/Selkirk like the Halo or Diadem (Icon, Warrior) to most.

      The Volair Forza Mach 1 is basically a Ronbus R1 Pulsar. If you watch my first look on the Ronbus, you will learn basically everything you need to know about the Forza. I also posted a video on the Forza on Instagram.
      It’s a good paddle, a little softer than other thermos, great spin, and a good value with other extras in the box (eraser, grip etc). I like the paddle, just like I enjoy the R1 Pulsar. I would say the Forza is a better value than the Pulsar currently (also looks cooler).

    Whatever the Ronbus explanation of core buckling is, the proof of a solution would be something like... first build a large sample set of the NOVA with a conventional sealed edge. Then build another large population with the new matrix edge. There should be no other variables in the experiment. Dissect every paddle from the two sample sets (cut lengthwise, not how they showed in the report). The first group should show core buckling at some rate. The 2nd group should show zero. Make a conclusion based on statistical differences in the two populations. Maybe they did this or something similar. They did not tell us. They told us they took ONE(1) paddle and whacked it 10,000 times and then dissected it. This does not prove that core buckling is resolved. Statistical difference between the two samples sets, would. Then I would buy three of their paddles. So all of this could be real and something good, or it could just be marketing. They market themselves as the company that cares about quality as others don't (I agree with the 2nd part). But they also have the worst return policy. You can not test drive their paddles for 30 days. If you buy it, you are stuck with it. Also, since the PULSARs do not have the new magic edge, this means that PULSARs have buckled cores, right? Hmmm.
