I love your paddle reviews. Wish they were more frequent. Also you have a very calming voice to listen to and I love the clips of you playing with the paddle. Lastly. What is your favorie go-to paddle?
Thanks for watching, I’m glad you find them helpful. I don’t know how other reviewers do it but I play with a paddle for at least two weeks before I form my full opinion and then it takes me a bit to write, edit, and publish the review so I can only do so many ha. My go to paddle right now is the Vatic Pro Prism Flash. I personally prefer control type paddles so it works well for me.
2 days in on mine and agree with his assessment. With thin handle and light initial weight this paddle is meant for customization. With overgrip and added weight it does become much more playable than out of the box. Think power spin with control is the way to go with it. Just pure flat power isnt going to be its thing
I really do enjoy yr paddle reviews Braydon, there's always a takeaway for me! All the Gen 2 thermos I've tried had that distinctive feel, while the Joola Perseus 16 being the only one that didn't (although i haven't played the Nova yet). It's interesting you mentioned the Nova "felt and played similar to the Perseus 16". So if we were to dissect the Perseus, i do wonder how similar the paddle construction (edge areas) would be to the Nova's?
Thanks for watching, I’m glad they help! The Perseus is fully encased and doesn’t have the weave pattern. I don’t know what Joola did differently but it’s the softest fully encased thermo.
Super informative all around!!! Love how you shared the stats after adding lead. Have you done rpn testing after lead? Wondering how the new and amount and location of weight impacts spin performance?
I didn’t do that but that would be an interesting test in general. I imagine that lighter paddles would impart more spin because you can accelerate through the ball better but that’s just my guess.
Right, if you like to customize the weight of your paddle with lead then light is always better. But if you don’t like doing that then light isn’t always good.
Invested in the swing-weight and twist rate machine. Thank you for sending me that info. Going to have fun playing around with different settings. Set a paddle up for singles and one for doubles. Went looking in the comments for the discount code you mentioned for the NOVA. Do you still have one? I am looking to change paddles after playing with same paddle for 2 years. A lot of tech has changed. I appreciate your reviews and breakdown and then playability review
Thanks for the review, enjoy your content per usual! I was curious to see how it matched up against the Pulsar. Seems like it’s not worth the purchase is you already own a pulsar. Out of curiosity, what is your preferred paddle?
Yeah, if you already have a Pulsar then I don’t think you need a Nova. Out of the box, I prefer the Pulsar but when you lead up the Nova I prefer it because I’m partial to softer feeling paddles.
I compare the Ronbus paddles at the bottom of my written reviews, so check that out, pickleballeffect.com/equipment-reviews/ronbus-r1-nova-paddle-review/. The DBD is similar to the Ronbus Pulsar except it’s a little stiffer feeling, and hits a little harder.
I go back and forth between the Vatic Pro Prism Flash and the Six Zero Double Black Diamond. The Prism Flash is a strong control paddle while the DBD gives me a little more power. I live in a higher altitude area and it doesn't get crazy hot or humid so creating power is easier here than say Florida so I prefer control oriented paddles since I can generate the power when I need to but play more consistent with them overall. And both of those paddles have a unique hybrid shape that gives you a little extra reach without sacrificing much forgiveness so I like that too. If you're interested in either, use code 10EFFECT on their websites and that will give you a discount.

Great details about benefits of customization.

We’ll said, I’m glad to hear you had a similar experience.
Great review as always.
BTW, Is that 1gram per inch lead tape that you added in your setup?
Yes, I put 4 inches of 1g per inch on each side.

When it is light, you can adjust how it feel, when the paddle is heavy there is not much you can do, so, having options seems to be better.

Nice! Yeah, use code 10EFFECT on Ronbus’ website.

How does the nova compare to the pulsar? Additionally, how do the nova and pulsar compare to the double black diamond?

@@pickleballeffect Thanks, I use the Black Diamond. Does the DBD offer a lot more control over the BD?
@@robedwards6926 yes, it gives you more control though the difference between them is less pronounced than it used to be.
It would ne very helpful if you can show your viewers how the paddle sounds before and after your modifications.
I don’t think it changes sound but I didn’t pay that close attention to it either.
