Thank you Galu', much appriciated! :)
A few footnotes on lore, for those curious about our settings.
On Eryn Galen's capital (Unfinished Tales; III; I; Note 14):
"Long before the War of the Alliance, Oropher, King of the Silvan Elves east of Anduin, being disturbed by rumours of the rising power of Sauron, had left their ancient dwellings about Amon Lanc, across the river from their kin in Lórien. Three times he had moved northwards, and at the end of the Second Age he dwelt in the western glens of the Emyn Duir, and his numerous people lived and roamed in the woods and vales westward as far as Anduin, north of the ancient Dwarf-Road (Men-i-Naugrim)."
    King's Men as Mordor's allies (Silmarillion; V):
"And Sauron gathered to him great strength of his servants out of the east and the south; and among them were not a few of the high race of Númenor. ...they served him still gladly in Middle-earth. ...two there were, Herumor and Fuinur, who rose to power among the Haradrim, a great and cruel people that dwelt in the wide lands south of Mordor beyond the mouths of Anduin."
Rhovanion ruler: we use the title King as Vidugavia "called himself King of Rhovanion, and was indeed the most powerful of the Northern princes" (RotK; Apppendix A). Ie, princes knew to call themselves so, whether other Northmen agreed or not hehe, and we opted for the same in the Second Age.
Bree: presumably existed already in the First Age. Of the Men of Bree few "had survived the turmoils of the Elder Days; but when the Kings returned again over the Great Sea they had found the Bree-men still there, and they were still there now, when the memory of the old Kings had faded into the grass" (FotR; At the Sign of The Prancing Pony).
Erebor's name: though it must been no more than at most a small settlement there, as its riches were discovered only in the late Third Age, until ca SA 1700 "the Longbeards controlled the Ered Mithrin, Erebor, and the Iron Hills, and all the east side of the Misty Mountains as far as the confines of Lorien; " (HoME 12; Of Dwarves and Men; Note 30).
Silvans in the Last Alliance: they were partly summoned, partly joined by own accord.
In Lórien "Amdír obeyed the summons of Gil-galad and brought as large a force as he could muster to the Last Alliance" (Unfinished Tales; II; IV). In Eryn Galen Oropher "assembled a great army of his now numerous people, and joining with the lesser army of Malgalad of Lórien he led the host of the Silvan Elves to battle" (Unfinished Tales; II; IV; Appendix B).
Carn Dûm: we have no record that the Witch-king built it. It has been proposed it a lost Dwarven settlement originally (ergo, the Dûm-ending) so we went with that thesis.

I was very excited for this mod and I must I am dissapointed. The balance is clearly lacking, wether it be units stats, costs, or just the economy in general. Everything is slow and empty, not enough regions, it is nothing like the DAC experience.
I must also say the units designs are nothing crazy and even ugly for some factions when compared to others mods but I can understand that it is the hardest part to do. It is a beta but people like me really felt like it would be a detail when it is clearly not.
I am still glad the mod is out, which means other will make submods that will greatly enhance any of the aspects I spoke about. Mods take a long time to be developped and can need several teams, this is probably what will happen with DCI too just like we saw with DAC.

Though you could try and pull a Cair Andros and place it in the middle of the Anduin, however that would have the city over-spilling onto the shore which is rather unaesthetic, or you'd have to create a noticable bulge in the river. If I had to out it on one side I'd choose the western bank.

    • @Marko777ify
      @Marko777ify 2 года назад

There was a Lord of the Rings Total War mod for Rome TW. Osgiliath is a single city there. But it's like a village, no defences. A single city would also help with the lag.

    Addendum:-
    - Amon Sûl was built by Elendil at this time. My confusion came from the Weather Hills not being fully fortified until the War of Angmar (in 1400 years).
    From Ngugi:-
Eryn Galen's capital (Unfinished Tales; III; I; Note 14):
"Long before the War of the Alliance, Oropher, King of the Silvan Elves east of Anduin, being disturbed by rumours of the rising power of Sauron, had left their ancient dwellings about Amon Lanc, across the river from their kin in Lórien. Harad as Mordor's allies (Silmarillion; V):
"And Sauron gathered to him great strength of his servants out of the east and the south; and among them were not a few of the high race of Númenor. For in the days of the sojourn of Sauron in that land the hearts of well nigh all its people had been turned towards darkness. Therefore many of those who sailed east in that time and made fortresses and dwellings upon the coasts were already bent to his will, and they served him still gladly in Middle-earth. ...two there were, Herumor and Fuinur, who rose to power among the Haradrim, a great and cruel people that dwelt in the wide lands south of Mordor beyond the mouths of Anduin."
Rhovanion: though their lords were princes, we use the title King as Vidugavia "called himself King of Rhovanion, and was indeed the most powerful of the Northern princes" (RotK; Apppendix A). Ie, they knew to call themselves so, whether other Northmen agreed or not hehe, and we opted for the same in the Second Age.
Bree: existed presumably already in the First Age (FotR; At the Sign of The Prancing Pony). Of the Men of Bree few "had survived the turmoils of the Elder Days; but when the Kings returned again over the Great Sea they had found the Bree-men still there, and they were still there now, when the memory of the old Kings had faded into the grass."

yeah they need work on their settlement names, and the game has tons of new scripts, which is cool, but there is reported to be little testing towards unit balance as the Orc units can currently best Elves in melee and a couple of historical inaccuracies on the map. A very good Beta release to be sure. Very stable and enjoyable. one can feel the love that went into the production.
    my critique would be:
    - the stats are very raw till now : orc rabble archer: 5 missile attack; noldor archer: 6 missile attack.
    - The Rosters are interesting but have barely a unified design aside from United Kingdom. But that is one of the most work intensive aspects of modding for med 2.

    • @Rafflewafflez

@@alejandrosilva528 while a good point, they did give the elf arrows 20% higher damage. You can only go so far in Tolkien's universe with fancy ammunition. I don't think the elves were firing exploding thunder arrows of thor. perhaps a 7 to 5 difference in a arrow quality (40%) wouldn't be too bad, but at the end of the day like chris said... The elves were just better archers than everyone else. Technically the dwarves were the best at making things (even the elves that made the rings of power were close friends with the dwarves of khazad-dum) yet the dwarves were never famous for their bowmen. A tool is only as good as the person using it. it's not the size that matters, it's how you use it... wait I think that's from something else

@@soccermtb13 a good point as well, but the dwarfs are to short to use a bow like the elven or the dunedain. And the orcs, beside urks, are not strong enough to use a bow, just not like the elves, but a average human could perform better than a orc. Thats why I think the noldor should have more projectile dmg, or less the orc. Its important who use the bow and how good is the bow and the arrow

I've always wished we got to learn more about Rhun from Tolkien himself. I mean, from what we do know they are a civilised people, so it would be interesting to see how close they are with Sauron, and if that's ever lead to conflict within.

DaC's map is too bigger this sort of campaign. It would take way too long for the elves and arnorians to get down from eriador to order for the war, and as they are supposed to be involved, it would be terrible design to have a map where it takes 20 turns to get where you need to be.

I am afraid that DCI throw away most of its potentional, the middle earth feels empty for me, units have even more simple look than Third age, when the faction is divided like Numenorians,dwarves.. AI dont know how to play with it, economic page is horrible, even when you own whole eriador you cannot have even one full banner army because its economicaly ruins you, i really hope that they will continue whit they work like you with DAC, then it may it be very very good.

Med 2 engine can't really support First Age. Only Warhammer 2 Engine could support it. But sadly due to GW limitations. It can't be modded. As they don't let another IP change game. Maybe in 10 or more years after contracts expire we may get modding tools for that game.

I must admit, I am curious how balancing will work in this mod, seems like most nation's are massive from the start. Some nation's too (like the two wood elven factions) do not seem to have tons of enemies around them.
Also, any plans to share Nazguls? Would be pretty cool is DCI and DAC had the same back stories for them or at least shared names.
But, overall, I am definitely looking to playing this mod!
