    Dunland is actually one of my favorites and was the first faction I didn't cheat with to win. I like to take Enedwait, then backstab Isengard, then eat up whats left of Rohan. Sure, their general roster is on the lower end of good, but there not bad. Better then most evil factions. I also like that their are fairly neutral in lore. Not evil, just pissed off.

    Hi Galu, hope you're well. I recently have had some health issues related to my heart and was rushed to hospital. Everything turned out ok but I was very weak and barely able to do anything. Anxiety attacks were frequent and I could barely function. The only thing that could keep me sane during those recovery days were your videos, they really relaxed me and allowed my body to rest from what I went through. Thank you from the bottom of my barely functioning heart for making such consistently good videos that really got me through a life changing time. I sincerely hope you are able to continue working on DaC and this youtube channel for as long as is possible.

    For the Rohan and Isengard balancing, all the campaigns I’ve played with other than my Rohan and high elves campaign, Rohan loses. I’ve played as Gondor, soo amroth, Lorien, woodland realm, erebor, northern dunedain, anduin, dorwinion. But I absolutely love the mod!! So much variety!!

      Yeah ive noticed that rohan seems to get steam rolled but in my experience when you need rohan to win, playing as a good faction, they seem to loose but when playing as an evil faction they seem to over run isengard

      Rohan will always begin to lose land in the beginning, but they may make a quick comeback...until the barracks event. Even if they succeed the twofold doomstack that happens when you take too many Isengard regions will spawn and Rohan will die anyway.

    I really wanna see a play through of Dunland I know it isn't a the most prominent or popular faction, but for whatever reason ever since seeing there brief appearances in the movies I have been attached to them. And to me they have far to few playthroughs to them on RUclips especially of high quality and I would love to see one on this channel though I imagine that would be some time in coming figure I would just post this here and hope maybe Arachir or someone else with a RUclips would think about giving Dunland some love would certainly have my support.

    Absolutely love Dunland in this game - a nice, infantry based roster (so you don’t have to worry about micromanaging with too many horses and archers), generally awesome looking units, an underlying sense that they are very much underdogs, making them fun to play as, but also a nice difficulty level for the average Med 2 player. Please never change them! (Except for changing back Tharbad)
    Edit: I posted this before watching the video, and have just reached 14:30. How dare people say such things about my favourite faction!

    My take on Dunland: Dunland is on the easy side as the troops are so cheap that you can field quite big melee infantry armies from the start and just run down everyone.
    Dunland Riders are good hit and run units if you need to catch an enemy unit, which you want to kill with your infantry units. Dunland Raiders (inf) are really cost effective unit and you can flood the lands with them and the Berserkers and support them with spears. Enedwaith isn't that much of a challenge if you use a trash spearman unit to bait their missiles and then run your army to kill them in melee. Also as these troops are mostly trash tier, the blacksmith buildings raise their defense quite a lot and dun larach has a building that gives +1 melee bonus to all your melee troops so early game your trash tier troops have better stats than here. These bonuses work really well with Dunland's large units sizes.
    Early game you have power to go vs anyone almost and you have 3 forts in your heartlands so you can ready up a stack without them taking upkeep, also helps early game economy as you can make more troops for your rebel conquests.
    Dunland campaign's most funniest moments and biggest problems lies in it's battles, early game is awful lot of fun as you are so strong, but late game it get's really boring to just go and grind the enemy with the infantry the umphteenth time, so it tends to go more to autoresolve side for me. But fast campaign of Dunland is really much recommended!
    (I like more these underdog trash factions generally, votes went to ened and gobbos in the faction vote.)

    • @hansesa4586
      @hansesa4586 4 года назад +3

      Agree.. Dunland's roster is pretty solid, even against the more powerful enemies. Armour piercing helps a lot, especially against the dwarves.

      Plus, once/if you take Enedwaith, you get some of the most profitable settlements in the game (Alcfud and Balorn can make +5000 each), add to that your readily available elites and you can just spam full banner armies over and over.

    So one thing I notice a lot is that the AI gets stuck next to Tharbad a lot. They send units trying to get to the other side of the river (mainly Endewaith does this) and they will pile up next to Tharbad. Diplomats of various factions also do this. I mainly noticed this in my Breeland campaign when I was allied with Endewaith. It also happened in my Rohan campaign and I couldn't take Tharbad from Dunland because there were so many neutral Endewaith armies surrounding the city.

  • @winndypops

    The dunnish units were a really useful addition to the Enedwaith Roster, going up against the mid tier of most evil factions was proving very difficult for me but with a few Dunlendings in each of my armies I finally had some melee men I could rely upon while my Enedwaithi hurled their javelins from behind.

  • @dimitriefthymiou974

    I think the reason javelinmen perform way worse in med 2 than in rome 1 is due to their animation, it is dreadfully slow and can get interupted very easily. Terrain bonus affects fatigue drastically, you get exhausted really fast in bad terrain so it is quite significant. Fast googling says that terrain bonus gives attack bonuses on troops so maybe the terrain malus lowers attack too.

      @galvatron0810 4 года назад +3

      @@thehumanity3324 ive noticed that it makes morale respose lower and overall morale lower when your troops are exhausted, unless they have locked morale, and it also slows your units down drastically especially for heavy cav / infantry, I'm sure it also lowers defense and attack too

    • @cambyses1529
      @cambyses1529 4 года назад +1

      You already get an impact from different types of terrain, these bonuses improve/negate the impact to a certain extent. ie heavy infantry and esp cavalry get a debuff in woods, so if you have lighter troops you should fight more in woods anyway to gain an advantage.
      eg a Dunland clan spearman has stats
      stat_ground 1, -3, 2, 1
      which means they get +1 to stats in scrub, -3 in sand, +2 in forest and +1 in snow combat modifiers, on top of the other bonuses they have in such terrain for being light infantry
      So, with a primary attack of 2 that means they are 100% better at attacking in a forest compared to grassland. Which makes sense when you think about it :)

    I loved playing as dunland, one of the most enjoyable factions. Units are great and just keeping a general in the army will make it easy to beat enedwaith. The only 2 things that annoyed me were the 1st tier of cav and archer took 2 turns to create when stats aren't that great and that gynd is part of the unite the clan script, as isengard will get there before you and arent keen to sell it to you. My basic javelin unit, the Dol Guldur Scouts, constantly melted under any and all enemy arrow fire, even though I tried my best to maneuver them into good positions. I think that one of the reason people do not play as Dunland often is because they are not that recognizable and appealing as other factions which appear more focused in the movies and the books. The other reason is that they are just a human faction, which is akin to most other Total War games and the base vanilla Medieval 2, and not as exotic as say elves or dwarves or even the humans of the eastern factions.

    I have a proposal for a Dunland script but I dont know if its possible. The impression I got from the book and films is that there is an old grudge against Rohan. So I would propose something called the blood-feud system: if you score a (heroic) victory against Rohan (and Bree) a blood feud is settled and one of the families would repay you for settling it, giving you a small income gold amount. If you (heavily) lose a battle against Rohan (and Bree) then another blood feud is added, enraging your population and thereby granting you a (weak) military unit. Again, I dont know if this is possible through scripts and maybe it could use some variety and expansion, I jusr feel like the grudge and anger against the people around you could be a feature to explore.

    My one issue with Dunland is that the unite the clan event requires you to take an Isengard(Gynd)? town to gain the Guardians of Dunland unit. Kinda ironic that one needs to betray Isengard to get Saruman to give you his best armour.
    My favorite strategy is to peace with breeland at the start and gain some $$. Then go through Tharbad and head west to Argond and then hit Suduri before Enedwaith takes it. After that go north and gain those northern rebel towns and then stop at the dwarven/orc mining town. The trick is to now trade towns with Enedwaith and get their best towns like Balorn, Lond daer, dol vorn, and heuort. After doing that their armies are confused and you can easily take them out by turn 30ish . Dunland's economy should be able churn out endless units too take on isengard and breeland at the same time.

    Why make Guardians of Dunland a unit-type clone of Orthanc Guard? I get that thematically Isengard send suits of armor (and the models are great), but it seems a waste of a slot to have 2 exact copies of spearmen. Maybe possible to make the Dunland one axemen or something? Maybe spearmen w javs? idk, just seems a waste to have spearmen clones, so to make em a bit different in terms of their unit-type. Although the models are fantastic and should be preserved

      The true enmity comes from when Helm killed Freca after he tried to force a marriage between his son Wulf and Helm's daughter.
      Wulf then led an army reinforced by other enemies of Gondor and occupied Rohan. That's where the believe that the Dunlandings were the true owners of Rohan comes from.
      Eventually of course they were driven out of Rohan and eventually starved out of Isengard too.

    Would be much appreciated if your modding team would cut some of the multitude of units spawning for enemies (especially when you attack important cities) , and also reduce the number of troops spawning after conquering the capital/having 2 regions left... It s annoying to play with Dunland, roll over Isengard with an early tier army, but then 2/3 stacks of elite troops spawn for Isengard, and you are basically... Fked up

    The Rohan vs Isengard balance depends on Enedwaith. If Enedwaith doesnt attack isengard within the first 40 turns, Rohan gets steamrolled. If enedwaith attacks Isengard, then Rohan steamroller isengard until they are left with only Isengard and they hold out forever with that one settlement.

    Building restrictions are a big drawback imo. You can always force people to build massive stone structures, especially when you reach the point of being one of the strongest and influential factions. All it does is arbitrarily limiting the potential of a certain faction in a scenario where it's all about alternative "history".

    all they building pictures are from total war rome celtic\german tribes nations(which is kinda boring tbh). i think Dunland is one of the most underdeveloped factions both in terms of military strength and placement on the map. Since the AI is predictable its still possible to win the game with them and even defeat like gondor\mordor and what not, but it's extremely tiresome and boring. And almost impossible to maintain peace\alliance with enedhwaith which always end up in war. Also playing isengard is always end up in war with enedhwaith even after taking the one ring from edoras(lucky spawn for my at 35 turn) and having nazgul and strong military and all of rohan territory they still don't want to ceasefire which end up with them losing in an instant couse they are too trash faction like dunedain.
    I think this nation is interesting from a very far point of view(although they are really just a barbarians and pillagers) but i didn't see anything special in the game for them. But i guess it's just the limitation of the engine, if it was something like total war warhammer i would like to see dunland like a horde nation w\o capital and castles and things like that. Something like a mongolians but on the smaller scale, taking cities just for pillaging and having camps in the woods.

    I dont dislike Dunland for their army or roster or location.
    I dislike them because theyre the useful idiots, I actually like the barbarian feel of them but theyre just being used by Isengard and they are being duped into war.
    The Andiun offers a better alternative as a barbarian faction, they fight to keep their ways and freedom. Dunland fights because a white boi told them to loot and rape and pillage and stray hairs bad, take vengeance on stray hair grrrrrr.
    The only way id play Dunland is if I absorb Enedwaith, turn on Isengard and then destroy Rohan and figure things from there, but much like what keeps me from playing Harad and Rhun. I really dont like being a vassal theme wise.
