Reading Tales of the Dying Earth for the first time, I couldn't believe how D&D the magic was! I hadn't heard the term Vancian Magic but it certainly make sense.
That's because Gygax patterned original D&D magic on Jack Vance's Dying Earth
I think Vecna is an anagram of Vance too if that wasn't a well known fact.

I played through The Great Visp Hunt with a group of Core four DCC classes, and it was fantastic! I played a Witch, and that's probably the most fun DCC class?! Transfer Vitality is incredibly fun and tactical.
Yeah I can see similarities between 3.5 versions of wizard and sorcerer in the DCC casters. I don't play DCC , but it'd be fun to try.

I haven't played the Dying Earth content, but from your last video, I was inspired to purchase the PDF from Drive Thru in the link.
I was excited to check out the new classes, and I was a bit disappointed with the classes. Not because they are not unique (they are), but it just feels like they trump the base DCC classes with so many class features and at 2am I was struggling to read it all without fading. I was hoping for a bit more comparable set of abilities.
The flavor is great though, just wish it felt like I could cross content and that players were closer to the same playing field.
I also totally didn't grasp the amplification dice for the Magician. Doesn't seem like it was just me.

I came to comment on the shirt before i finished the video! Hehe. I've seen Jordan wear it before i think, but i wanted to just say how much i love that shirt. I think i need to look for one myself... great colors and great nostalgia* for me personally as someone who watched the original Trilogy & Caravan of Courage innumerable times as a child born sometime near 1980. :D
*Mom read me The Hobbit and video games were basically off limits while TV/movies were heavily restricted, so more often than not, it was playing SW and/or LEGOs (which ofc i had the medieval and space ones for the most part any anything that wasn't that was inevitably ripped up and converted to it ;)) or go outside & make up stuff to do within those spheres for me as a kid. :)

You'll need the DCC core rulebook, but just that! The dying earth set is an expansion

I reeeeeeaally think that the interpretation you have of a Wizard getting a result of a 1, or 2-11, on a spell check, is not exactly how the book reads. Sure, if that is the way you prefer to take it, and you and your table are good with that... no biggie. But, I think that the spell is not necessarily "gone for good", more so, "gone for the day". Regardless, it is your game, play it as you want :)

The definition of unnecessarily complex
witch part? I could see tripping over the amplification system without a card. But the rest is basic dnd. If your referring to the spell charts, and every spell getting a roll, its fairly easy to manage, i make the players either make a spell grimoire (print them out) or jot down the page number and be prepared with it. You could even wing it as DM on most of them. anything under 11 is failure, and the Dm narrates the power of the spell based on the number rolled. 12-minimum, 31 being only possible at higher lvls. roll is lvl+int bonus+1d20.
@@xaxzander4633 The Wizard isn't complex, but the Magician is complex. I really love the Vat Thing and the Witch classes though.
A failed spell check in DCC doesn’t mean the spell is gone forever, just the day.
