  • Some of the worst aviation disasters in history like Japan Airlines Flight 123 and Swissair Flight 111 were caused by fatal flaws that the pilots had no hope of overcoming to steer the plane to safety. Seemingly insignificant design features or shoddy repair work doomed these flights and their passengers from the start.

    The JAL tragedy was more tragic due to the fact that after the crash, there was a lot of people still alive but because they were left there until the next day they died due to hypothermia…

    You know what pains me the most about Japan Airlines 123?
    The US had helicopters on stand by to start rescuing the survivors of the crash, but Japanese Authorities said no. What's worst there are stories about how the locals could hear cries of help of the initial survivors getting weaker and weaker through the night.

    • @Powerranger-le4up

      I’ve heard about it too. I blame national pride because even if you believe that there aren’t any survivors, you should still check anyway. So many would still be alive had Japan allowed the United States to help.

      Also they camped out in the nearest town for the night and resumed their search the next day. It's documented by this very same channel.

    I've noticed that faulty maintenance is a cause in many air crash incidents, maintenance crew hiring should be just as detailed as hiring pilots, pilots fly the planes they can't fix or maintain them. The overwhelming majority of maintenance crews are highly skilled professionals who take a lot of pride in their work but I've seen quite a few stories of maintenance crews cutting corners or not following through on something which led to disaster. Of course, If an airline is cheap and cutting corners on personnel, parts, or maintenance procedures, then it wouldn't matter how skilled they were.

    • @laughingman2082
      @laughingman2082 2 года назад +13

      @@nightrunnerxm393 It's really not that simple... The cost for those parts usually go towards innovating better/safer way's to fly. Not to mention the sheer amount of labor/machinery and resources needed to manufacture one. Those things don't just pop into existence you know. If there's some form of perfect material out there that eliminates all these issues while being common enough to be cheap; we haven't found it as of yet. Without this miracle material/science the aviation industry is quite literally fighting an uphill battle against Murphy's law.
      Problem with that though is... Now you are fighting against possibilities; which may as well be infinite. Fixing one problem means you now have to consider what risks that solution comes with. The clearest answer anyone has come up with at this point is... Let's just build as much redundancy as possible so hopefully nothing ever happens- Of course Murphy can be a spiteful ***** and does a dang good job at expanding peoples Horizen's when it comes to what can go wrong.

      @Samurai Warriors Unite, Not just anybody can walk off the street and start working as a aviation mechanic. Aircraft mechanics must successfully graduate from aviation mechanics and must also be certified.
      My biggest concern with aviation mechanics is their level of compensation. On average, they only earn $55,000 plus benefits a year. Currently their salaries top out at around $75,000, so it concerns me that like TSA agents, who are terribly paid, these critical workers are not being adequately compensated.

    In 1968 I boarded a flight from Kansas City flying to Huntington, WV with a stop in Charlotte, NC. We took off from KC and flew into a storm with lots of bouncing around. The plane started coming apart on the inside. The panel separating the classes came loose and was flopping around, overhead storage items were coming out and flying around the cabin, and the plane was falling and gaining altitude rapidly. Finally, we got out of the dang weather and landed in Minneapolis, in the opposite direction than we were supposed to be going. At any rate the airline put us on another plane. We had just taken off when there was smoke in the cabin. We returned to the airport safely and were waiting to board another plane. However, while taxiing the nose wheel collapsed. Again, we passengers were offered another flight. I declined and asked for ground transportation, they accommodated my request and gave me a Greyhound bus ticket. OK, great, I got to the bus station, loaded on the bus and when it was backing out of its slot, we hit another bus. I finally made it to my home in West Virginia three days later. You might say this sounds fantastic, but it really happened, and this is not the worst commercial travel I ever had.
    I have since flown many, many miles and trust the airline industry. However, I know Aircraft mechanics are over worked and underpaid. Just think about ii; mechanic have your life in their hands, probably more so than the flight crew. Aircraft are so electronically controlled that they can, in themselves overcome a pilot's short comings. This is not the case with the mechanic. If the mechanic makes a mistake and the TI does not catch it the passenger pays the price either in terror or by death.

      I realize you all are probably in your late teens to mid 20 writing the last few comments so I will try to impart some life advice...
      It's not the people who are lost in these accidents but it's the families & friends that are left to pick up the pieces after. That's where one's prayers, heart and condolences should go out to... So they know their not alone or forgotten & there's those of us who understand their pain and understand that even after all the years have passed, one never really forgets the day you found out you lost your loved one in a tragedy...
      And yes... I'm speaking from experience & I was around your age when it happened... I remember what it's like to think everything is a joke and that your, as we used to say "bullet proof"...
      No one is & it can happen in the blink of an eye...
      So in conclusion I finish up by saying I know you are probably just trying to joke around... But... When that blink of an eye is before you... Do you know where you'll be heading to after it happens? I would never tell anyone they have to live or believe as I do... but... I do have to say there's only one of two places that one will be heading to in that blink of an eye...
      My little brother was 21yrs old when the tragedy I spoke of earlier happened. I was a year & 10 days older than him... So we were very close... He just got married 2months before it happened. So don't ever think... I don't have to worry about it, for I'm young I've got plenty of time to do things or I'll worry about stuff like that when I get old... Because no one is a guaranteed their next second of life...
      I've worked accident scenes that involved the very young to the very old & everything in between...
      So I can tell you first hand, death can come for anyone anytime... Just remember what I said...
      Only 2 destinations to arrive at...
      Do you know where you'll arrive at??

Mechanics are working long hrs to keep these planes in the air, and safety is their number one priority as well. It would be nice to know that if an airline goes so many months without a safety issue that all involved in maintenance would get a substantial bonus. In theory, an airplane can “fly” for a short time in any configuration, as it can merely be moving lower due to gravity, or moving higher due to propulsion - but it isn’t real flying, because they don’t have the proper amount of wingspace/size to have the needed aerodynamics to maintain lift, (otherwise planes would be perfectly symmetrical horizontally. (Remember gravity is key….)….

      This tends to be much more true in the U.S. than in other countries such as Japan and Europe. As the COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated, Americans will often defy being told what to do, even if it will save lives. This attitude both permeates American culture, including business culture, and it conveniently dovetails with the profit motive.
      For example, the EU has a very strong regulatory regime intended to protect people and society, even at great cost to business. Regulations and commercial standards are rigorously developed, often taking years. In the U.S., we default to “tombstone technology” and “tombstone policy,” meaning that neither the aviation technology nor the regulations will change until actual deaths force the issue. This has often placed Americans in a tacit role of being aviation guinea pigs.

    42:03: 3 serious problems related to rudder's dual servo valves flaw, leading to 2 deadly accidents: an "incredible safety history" indeed! Not to mention the 2 crashes due to a mindblowing flaw on the 737Max! I presume it's an old documentary but even though ... Accidents can occur of course but these ones are all due to the aircraft's design, not to any pilot error. Any other aircraft than Boeing would have been killed and removed from service once and for all. Guess what: even the Max is flying again, this is beyond comprehension ...
    Just imagine if this had concerned an Airbus or an Embraer for instance, what do you think it would have happened? The aircraft would have been banned from the USA and, step by step, the manufacturer might have gone bankruptcy ... All this sucks.

    • @kathymcmahon5308

      You are 100 percent correct, and Boeing gets a slap on the wrist and a fine that to them ment nothing. They don't even have the consideration to contact the families and apologize, cuz that would mean they are admitting to wrong doing. In a documentary I saw a engineer working on the Maxx asked in an email if another coworker would put his family on the Maxx? The engineer said he wouldn't. That tells alot about this plane and the company that pushed it thru knowing its flaws. They should be ashamed of themselves. So sorry to the families that lost their loved ones on all these flights.

    If a police officer can be charged discharging his weapon in the line of duty, then crew, managers and corporate leaders should be similarly accountable when they make mistakes like this. The difference is that an officer has a split second to make a life or death decision. These corporate leaders, managers, supervisors and mechanics had weeks, months or maybe even years to make the same decisions over and over again. Yet, I never see any of these people put on trial for negligent homicide. The most recent case was Boeing with the Max 8. Everyone involved in that cover-up should be on trial facing charges of negligent homicide.

This way there is redundancy. If there is a loss of hydraulic pressure the fly-by-wire transceiver can still provide commands to the motors or the servos that control different parts of the plane’s steering system.

    It's high time they install a fail-safe system for every single passenger on these airplanes ✈. For instance, fighter pilots have it by using a parachute. When the shuttle program started, they also had parachutes at the very start but for some reason, they decided to take that brilliant system out (because of money and like they said, the shuttle was a very expensive machinery to fly. The safety regime made it so expensive) but when Challenger exploded, they really regretted that especially because this teacher was on board + it was broadcast live in many many countries. Why can't we put a fail-safe system on airplanes. Money 💰??? Totally unacceptable !!!

    • @rajLab
      @rajLab 2 года назад

      They don't even have money to pay the maintenance crews to do additional checks and increase the inspection time. Your expectations are extremely high. Unfortunately the only fail-safe systems we have are get our own private jet and wear a parachute or take a train or a ship instead of a plane.
