To be honest, I'd have to say that when someone is addicted to anything it's the addiction usually talking, not the person who is addicted. So, while he was an adult making a decision, because he has an addiction the duty of the people around him would have to have been to deter him from that direction rather than bringing him to it. So, it's still their fault because Matthew was not thinking properly at the time. Grown adult or not.

  • @mbg140897

He absolutely definitely did NOT say that, especially as someone who desperately wanted to get sober and struggled with that. That assistant lied and deceived Matthew, and he thinks people are actually going to believe him?? It’s disgusting that he’d resort to that knowing how people view addicts. Thinking it’ll stick because “they were a piece of sh*t junky, I’m sure he said it.” Fuck those people. They need to be under the damn prison.

Addiction falls under mental health, it’s not a punitive sentence, and no one “deserves” any illness. Yes, people make choices around responses to illness everyday. If you look into the latest research, say the work of Dr Gabor Mate, you’d learn it’s a trauma response. We’re all collectively supposed to be helping to eradicate the stigma of all mental health issues. It’s all our responsibilities to learn more and advocate more strongly. We are on the cusp of understanding a lot more about mental health than modern psychiatry has led us to believe. May you and all your loved ones be spared from suffering and ill health. (BTW KCAL CBS Los Angeles dropped an excellent report on the arrests here on RUclips yesterday I believe).

I always wonder why celebrities are so drawn into drugs. It is an honest, genuine curiosity. The other day I watched Bill Burr talk about male celebrities and cheating. Even though it was a comedy show, he made good points, and it sheds a light on situations regular people don´t experience.... ¨ a platoon of whxxres that is going to form on the horizon... when you get famous¨. As a man, I can imagine the daily temptations that aflict these celebrities, and it makes you go: I see why he cheated.
But the drug side of the issue... still don´t understand. Some say pressure, stress, etc.. working class regular citizens have even more pressure, stress. Though different, I think normal people have worse stress because if you don´t have the money to pay the bills, you can risk becoming homeless... that is not the main issue with celebrities...
I heard a friend say once that these people have done everything possible in life, and are just bored out of their minds, so they resort to drugs... maybe... idk.. would like to see the opinion of a celebrity that has been through this..

I dare you to go say that to people at an AA meeting or anywhere else recovering addicts have resided who have been addicts for decades but are now also clean and will never go back. You can get clean and stay clean, recovery is 100% possible. And it’s horrifically sad that he wanted to get clean and stay clean and had these shitty people conspiring against him. He was probably well on his way, it can take a long time. He was over a year sober. I’m not even a fan of Friends, I fucking hate that show lol. @@highflyingduck You're the kind of person who makes excuses for drug addicts and enables them even more. Excuses won't solve these addicts' problems, so people need to stop making excuses for them.
An enabler is usually a friend or family member of an addict who passively allows or permits their addictive behavior. It can be by lending them money for drugs or by ignoring problematic behavior from the addict, and also by making excuses for them.
An enabler does nothing to prevent substance abuse and instead provides excuses that make it easier for that behavior to continue.
The addict will have no problem spending your money on drugs, yet has a problem when the money is reallocated to treatment centers or addiction professionals. Saying it is too expensive is not a good excuse.
Addiction unfortunately involves dishonesty. Addiction cannot persist without the addict lying to themselves and others around them. It becomes routine to lie to others once you become comfortable with lying to yourself. Your drug of choice is making decisions for you, and it is your top priority. It doesn't matter what it takes to get and use more. When addicts lie, it is to avoid the painful truth that their drinking or drug abuse is no longer in their control. Nobody likes admitting they have lost their willpower or that their willpower isn't enough to stop their addiction, but that's exactly what happens.
A lie that addicts often tell themselves is that their behavior isn’t hurting anyone. They don’t want to believe their need to get drunk or high has hurt their children or other loved ones when they aren’t there for them after school, or for other events. They don’t see that their inability to be present with family and friends is hurting others. But no one exists in complete isolation. An individual’s behavior impacts people around them, whether they like it or not. Drug and alcohol abuse hurt family, friends, and coworkers.
